I really like the stock android news genie.
The only problem is that if you set it to prefetch articles + images it will not use them if you have an active data connection at the time you read the news. Instead the app tries to redownload the article using the web browser (apparently so you can view the latest version of the article). I find this pointless and a lot slower because 1. You have to load up the browser, 2. you have to wait for the article to load. Currently I am forced to disable data whenever I view the news, so that I can utilise the prefetch mode.
Would anyone want to mod the google news genie so that it always uses the prefetched copy of the news, i think this would make the google news genie really awesome.
Otherwise is there some kinda hack where i could disable data when the news service is in the foreground, but still allow data when it is synching news in the background.
Yesterday while I opened Marketplace on my Samsung Omnia W (version: 7.10.8773.98), I got message in background as "Attention: You must install the Refresh Marketplace app before you can access app and games."
I installed this app. This app got listed in Xbox, but still message continues to display in background in Marketplace (seems its static image).
Any idea what is purpose of this app. I am not facing any issue in installing any app from Marketplace.
supposedly is to upgrade the marketplace to the same app that windows phone 8 users have (minus wp8 apps, obviously)
some people have suggested that this can be fixed with a hard reset, but i think that's a bit extreme considering the fact that you can still use the marketplace without problems
btw, some guy did this:
This procedure helped me (Nokia Lumia 800, Windows Phone 7.5 Mango):
- Install the "Refresh Marketplace" app from the remaining marketplace
- Run "Refresh Marketplace" app in the Xbox Games app
- Connect phone to the AC power charger.
- activate WLAN (if not done yet)
- Open "Marketplace" (still the remaining, incomplete version) and let the phone rest for a few hours (up to 24 hours) with active WLAN. After a while, a notification about open app updates should appear. Download and install all app updates - during this process, the Marketplace also receives its update.
Then, Marketplace will open in its current version.

Thanks. I guess I would wait for few days till WP7.8 is launch to go for Hard reset.
Install the Refresh Marketplace App to continue using Marketplace
Microsoft is continuing a series of infrastructure upgrades to improve Windows Phone Marketplace. While most Windows Phone users’ phones have automatically been switched over to the improved Windows Phone Marketplace infrastructure, in the coming weeks a small number of users will need to install a simple Refresh Marketplace App to continue using Marketplace to download and/or update Windows Phone apps.
The Refresh Marketplace App is a small app developed by Microsoft to help some Windows Phone users complete their transition to the improved Windows Phone Marketplace infrastructure. The app will make changes to the Marketplace configuration on the phone to ensure that it communicates with the updated online Marketplace infrastructure. Installation of this FREE app involves the same basic installation steps as any Windows Phone app. You can download it over a cellular data connection or Wi-Fi, and it takes only a few minutes to install and run.
If you are one of the small number of users who needs to install and run the Refresh Marketplace App to continue using Marketplace, you will receive a You must install the Refresh Marketplace App notice and will see this app as the only one featured within the Marketplace Hub on your phone. Follow the instructions below to download and install the Refresh Marketplace App:
1.
Ensure your Windows Phone is connected to a cellular data connection or Wi-Fi.
2.
Open the Marketplace Hub.
3.
Tap the Refresh Marketplace App icon or name to go to the app details page, and then tap Install to download and install the app. The Refresh Marketplace App will be installed within the Games Hub on your phone, opening the Games Hub in the process.
4.
Find and tap the Refresh Marketplace App in the Games Hub, then follow the on-screen instructions to complete reconfiguring your phone to access the updated online Marketplace infrastructure.
5.
Re-open the Marketplace Hub. You should no longer see the You must install the Refresh Marketplace App notice, and you should be able to see various featured apps and games. You can now continue to use Marketplace on your Windows Phone—enjoy! If you choose, you can uninstall the Refresh Marketplace App at this time.
Troubleshooting
If, after following the previous steps, you continue to receive the You must install the Refresh Marketplace App notice or are unable to install apps from the Marketplace Hub on your phone, do the following:
Basic
1.
Turn off your Windows Phone by holding down the power button and following the on-screen instruction to Slide down to power off.
2.
After a few seconds, push the power button to restart your phone.
3.
Ensure your Windows Phone is connected to a cellular data connection or Wi-Fi, then plug it in using the wall charger that came with your phone. Leave your phone plugged in for at least 10 minutes, then try again to access Marketplace.
4.
Re-open the Marketplace Hub. You should no longer see the You must install the Refresh Marketplace App notice, and you should be able to see various featured apps and games. You can now continue to download apps from Marketplace—enjoy!
If you continue to have problems, see the following Advanced steps.
Advanced
1.
From the Start screen on your Windows Phone, flick left to the App List. Scroll to the Games Hub and note whether the Games Hub icon says Xbox LIVE or not. If yes, continue with Step 2. If not, skip to Step 5.
2.
Tap the Xbox LIVE Games icon to open the Games Hub.
3.
Tap More , then tap Refresh. You should see Updating... on the top-left of the screen. When this goes away, continue to Step 4.
4.
Re-open the Marketplace Hub. You should no longer see the You must install the Refresh Marketplace App notice, and you should be able to see various featured apps and games. You can now continue to use Marketplace—enjoy!
If you continue to have problems, do the following:
5.
If your Games Hub icon doesn't say Xbox LIVE (or if Steps 1-4 don't restore the full Marketplace experience), plug in your Windows Phone using it's wall charger, ensure your phone is connected to a cellular data connection or Wi-Fi, and charge your phone for at least 24 hours. During this time, your phone will automatically attempt to connect to the updated online Windows Phone Marketplace infrastructure, after which you should be able to continue using Marketplace.
If after following all of the steps above you continue to have problems, contact Microsoft Support.

http 404 error ... :crying:
I tried as well with all steps including Basic and Advanced troubleshooting options. But no success in recovering Marketplace. In fact I had lost access to all apps/games in Market place.
Finally I reset my handset. After Reset, when connected to Zune for configuring Phone again, New update was installed on my Phone (Samsung Omnia W). After Reset Marketplace is working fine.

Hello.
I've been having an issue with Youtube. It gives me this error with the app and the website doesn't work. Any advice?
Here are my specs
- Phone: HTC One V PrimoC
Carrier: Virgin Mobile USA
Rom: Paranoid Android 2.99 Beta
Kernel: Supersick 1-21-13
Do you have an actual data connection going? (that may be WiFi or a GSM/CDMA data connection)
Can you load other websites, and use apps for online services like Facebook & Twitter?
CDMA and everything loads fine. Wifi and 3g work.

You could try to clear the data of the YouTube application:
Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Youtube -> Force Stop -> Clear Data
Other than that, do other applications that stream video work?
Hello had this issues before an hour and deleting and reinstalling youtube helped

if i helped hit thanks

sony z1 , kryptonian rom+kryptonian kernel
even i am unable to play videos in sony's video app or stream on fb or chroma

I know this is an old thread but it comes up top on Google and the bug apparently affects MM on newer Sony devices so a solution is helpful.
Finally found a fix for my Z3C 5.1.1 problem, courtesy of irevhard on XDA from Z2 forums

As you can see from the topic above,I have a problem with the YT app.Whatever video I play, always the same thing. It shows pictures of videos ,it can show comments and next videos, but it won't play.So I tried to fix it by setting wifi to static, and changing DNS (1 & 2) to four digits (first one to four 8's next one to 8.8.4.4) aaaand it still doesn't work.So of course I triend and cleaning cache and data, reinstalling the app, restarting the phone, nothing, nada. Now I have moto g (2nd gen) 4.4.4 kitkat.Anyone else facing this issue?Anyone else resolved this issue.Any ideas? Please respond, thanks!
I had this issue after restoring my phone through recovery, I had to uninstall the app and then use a root browser to look for remaining files in data and delete them THEN reboot and install the app, worked fine afterward.
I have this with my Tegra Note. Load up the App Info on the Youtube app then uninstall it. This will the remove the Youtube 5.16.4 version and revert it back to stock Youtube. It will work after. The latest Youtube app is really busted.

Please help: My Instagram-App is blocked on my android-phone S9+. My Accound was closed a few days ago (ok happens). Created a new one, I can use the new account on my Tablet or on Windows (Insta-App lookalike from Windows-Store), but the app on my smartphone still doesn't allow me to login.
I tried: to re-install the app, login into insta-browser on S9+ (this works), i also deleted cache and data for insta-app, also wiped partition cache in system recovery, also logged off from facebook (cause there is this spookey connection between insta and fb), nothing workd. I read that insta can identify for example iPhone using the Apple-ID. There must be sth like that for Android too I guess. Don't know what to do next.
