Question GW4 on Tmobile -> Tmobile tech says LTE can't be activated - Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

Long story short, I had Note 9/GW2A, upgraded to S22 ultra/GW4 classic; Tmobile says the GW4 can't be activated because it isn't compatible. I told them to try different plans, try the standalone plan - they never confirmed if they did try any of those. They just said it isn't recognized on their network and I had to return it to Samsung and buy in the store. I told them it is the EXACT same hardware that if it's a firmware issue, they need to provide me the firmware. Samsung confirmed it is the same hardware. Their IT is "looking" into it now; response in 48-72 hours.
Has anybody else here had the same issue? I've read on reddit some solutions, namely it goes down to the plan they are trying to activate, but yes, also GW4 only works with Samsung phones, not an issue here obviously.

I bought mine on Amazon and activating with T-Mobile was easy. I activated the LTE through the wear app and I am using the original Asus ROG phone.

I have a GW4 and I'm on TMobile. LTE definitely works

3g version coming; will it work with non Samsung phones?

The 3G version of this watch is coming in the next 2 weeks or so, and I am unable to find anything about whether or not you can use it with a non samsung phone..
I know the "non 3G" version works with most modern Android phones, and I know it will work with my Nexus 6..
My question is, does any one know for certain if I can use the 3G version, when it comes out, with my Nexus 6, or will the 3G version only work with Samsung phones?
I'm going to call Samsung tomorrow and ask, but I trust the folks here on XDA to know alot more than someone on their CS line will

Finely found a store that had it after 3 stores I got it
I called at least 6 stores, and none had it in suburban chicago; a couple said they should have them Monday, but I played it safe and ordered over the phone from T-Mo
Free over night shipping, and, you get 20 days to decide if you want to return it, vs 14 days when you buy in store..
I can wait one more day, at this point!
Yea messed up my account tho they cancelled my gear s for some reason I didn't want to add the new s2 yet because my gear s is at samsung for repair and didn't know if I wanted to keep the service on the gear s or s2 yet also they still charge u 15 for a sim when there's not even a sim in the damn thing

eSIM = not locked to a carrier?

I have a Verizon model Great S2, never activated, only used via BT. Can it be activated in T-Mobile? Do I need to get it unlocked?

I'm also wondering about the radio. Do the different models have different modems, and since the Verizon one has a CDMA modem, is it incompatible with T-Mobile bands?
If you look at Network Mode you'll see WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) so I'm guessing you could, I would check to see if yours is the same, which I wouldn't be surprised if it was. I have a 2nd hand Gear S2 that was bought from TMO. Then again, what do I know since I was too chicken to buy a Verizon one to find out before buying the one I have.
OK, I live chatted with Samsung and called their support phone line. According to both, the carrier versions are carrier locked, and cannot be unlocked. So, no switching between carriers. They told me I'll need to buy another Gear S2 if I want to move to another carrier.
If the Verizon version is capable of LTE then it should be carrier unlocked out of the box just like their phones. It was part of the stipulation for them to be able to buy the extra spectrum they bought a while back.

Just bought a Gear S2 for $99 refurbished and thinking maybe I should have bought GSM because or worldwide compatibility.
None of the Gear S2 have LTE which is carrier compatible. Verizon Sprint have CDMA 3G and AT&T and T-Mobile have GSM 3G.

I activated my S2 Verizon on Page Plus. Put a $10 pin on it that will last 120 days.
$0.10/min talk, $0.05 text, $0.10 meg data.
Given my experience with the Gear S this is enough for my needs when I'm occasionally without my phone.

Cross carrier use

I have VZW but am looking to get the S3 Frontier LTE through T-Mobile. It amazes me with the launch date being tomorrow VZW has no information on the S3.
That being said. How seamless will it be using a VZW S7 Edge and T-Mo Gear S3? I figure I can connect via BT when carrying my phone but how about when I want to leave the phone behind. Some have said the Gear app will allow me to forward the calls from the phone to the watch. How does that affect texts and other features?
I travel internationally so having T-Mo might not be a bad idea with their international included in their plans.

It will very likely not work at all on Verizon's LTE (although it should work fine as a Bluetooth watch). Verizon's primary LTE band is B13, and the T-Mobile version of the Gear S3 Frontier doesn't support it.
I've read in numerous places that the SIM is embedded and will not work on any network but the seller's.

I'm not talking about using T-Mo's version on VZW. I'm talking about going with T-Mo service with the S3 but syncing it with my VZW S7 Edge.

Apologies, I've seen too many posts from people that want buy the TMO or AT&T LTE versions with the intent to use them on VZW.
Given your requirements, I don't think it will be as seamless as you might like, and I suspect it's a fringe use case so finding someone with practical experience may take some patience.
You might want to consider posting your question on the S2 thread, since it should not be any different with the S3. There are more of those users out in the wild, some of which may doing what you are considering. I too will likely be be crossing carrier lines, so please share your findings/experience.

It will work just as seamless as it would if they were both on the same carrier. I've used the s2, s2 classic and now I have the s3 from tmobile with my Verizon phone. I wish it did the number sync, but AT&T'S the only one that does that.
I used to have T-Mo Galaxy phones, but now I only use my work phone: Verizon S7 Edge. I have had all the Gear S watches since the first one a couple years ago. I switched to my Verizon phone a few months ago and it was seamless to pair with my Gear S2 and now with my Gear S3.
However, I am having a weird issue since I started using my Verizon phone (with Gear S2 and now the same problem with my Gear S3). Not a total deal-breaker, but annoying, nonetheless. I am sure there is a solution out there, so I am not giving up on the watch just yet. For no apparent reason, calls will sporadically be auto-answered (on the phone) or will go straight to voicemail and I'll get a notification a few minutes later, which is the only way I realize I had a missed call. The only thing that has changed is the phone is a Verizon model, so that is the only thing I can think of. The Verizon call forwarding is a little different than the way T-Mo does it, so that is all I can think of that could be the possible cause.
Other than that the T-Mo watch works fine with a Verizon phone. Just curious if anyone else has this problem or if they have the same set up and are not experiencing the problem.

Bought a used s10e from us

so earlier this morning I bought a samsung s10e imported from the usa. It comes with sprint software in it. The seller says it is unlocked. So it is safe for me to change the firmware to another version? I can't use the full potential of this phone using the US version. I can't even use 4g+ and stuck with full bar lte wherever I go. Yeah it shows full bar late and I'm not sure whats the reasoning behind it. Also not sure if changing the software to another version is possible or can help me with my internet.
I used to have 140mbps tops with my note 5
Now with the s10e I only reach 50mbps best

The firmware is interchangeable. I bought an unlocked g970u1 and installed the Verizon specific firmware to convert it to a g970u. You should be fine to go the reverse direction. Check the link to the post above.

Americans call what we call 4G LTE, it's complicted because when 3,5G was launched they called that 4G, so they decided for a new name

Question eSim on Google Fi in the US?

I have been reading that the US versions of the Z Flip 3 do not have eSim support. However Google Fi uses eSim on all of their other phones so I am wondering if they are getting their phones with that enabled.
I currently use my eSim and a physical sim card in my Pixel 3XL so this matters to me. They are not active at the same time but I can easily switch between them. I had assumed I could still do the same since all of the specs I found online listed an eSim. If anyone knows if this will be the case I would love to know. Otherwise I might need to cancel my pre-order.

If you want esim capabilities in US then avoid Samsung phones. Only Apple and Google phones have esim capabilities supported by US carriers. Only exception to this, is Note 20 Ultra from Tmobile.
I discovered that there are 2 IMEI numbers on the Flip 3 box. There were IMEI1 and IMEI2. This leaves me to believe the US version of the Flip 3 is physically identical to the International version. The difference is probably software.
I contacted Samsung’s costumer support and inquired about the eSIM on Flip 3. Customer Support said this is not a feature that US version is provisioned for. Not willing to give up, I pointed out that the box lists 2 IMEI numbers. I asked if this is something that could be fixed with a software. The customer support said Samsung would be sending out an update to fix this when ready. I am not sure if I was given an answer just to get rid of me. Since the international version has eSIM function so, this is not a technical issue.
The S20 also had 2 IMEIs on the box. Doesn't mean **** if they don't activate it.
Also, my Flip3 box only has 1 IMEI.

My Flip 3 is from Google Fi and it was made in Vietnam.

The US models of the Galaxy S21 line still have eSIM disabled.
Unfortunately, it looks like Samsung has followed this plan again with the US unlocked models of its new Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 phones. For now, at least, you'll be connecting these phones to one subscription at a time.

Don't hold your breath waiting for Samsung to enable something they intentionally disabled.
No way I'd ever buy an $1800 phone with with dual and eSim disabled.
At this point I'm waiting for the Pixel 6 or Fold.

The article is saying it takes forever, if at all. It includes the Fold. It also implies that the carrier plays a role in whether or not it gets enabled.
That aside, I'm not actually looking for it. I just like to be informed.
Since I did not get any help from Samsung other than Samsung would be sending out an update to enable eSIM at a later date. I sent out an inquiry to Google Fi and request help. Following was the answer I got back:-
“Thanks for contacting Google Fi support. We totally understand that you want to use two phone numbers with Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3.
However, You can activate Fi services using the physical Fi SIM and can use the number of different carrier using E-SIM on the same device. Please make sure that you activate Fi services using physical SIM on Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 and activate the other number using E-SIM from different carrier.
If you face any trouble, Please reply us back on the same email.
We are here 24/7 if anything else comes up.”
Obviously, this is a bogus answer as there is no SIM card manager in the settings to enable me to add any eSIM regardless if it is Google Fi or from another carrier.
So, I emailed back and detailed the issue. I got another bogus answer. Below what was sent to me:-
“Thanks for contacting Google Fi support. I've checked it with my expert and you should be able to use E-SIM on Samsung Flip 3 with different carrier. If you're facing any trouble with activating services on E-SIM of different carrier. I would request you to get in touch with them and see what issue they are facing.
We are here 24/7 if anything else comes up.”
At this point, I am giving up. I need to use this Flip 3 for 30 days on Google Fi to get my $400.00 cell service credit. Due to COVID, I have not been travelling and have no plans until this is over. I do like the form factor of the Flip 3 but without eSIM is no for me. So, I am keeping this phone for the time being. I’ll pass this Flip 3 to my family member and get another phone with eSIM function. I will probably pick up either the Pixel 6 or the iPhone 13 that are going to be released.

Yes, this was an option but I traded in my Pixel 4XL already. My Pixel 4XL was quite good. I did not have any battery issue. The only thing was that it got really hot when I used Google Maps for navigation. Sometimes, it would even shut down on a hot day in the car while using navigation. Mine was in excellent shape and I got $350.00 back for trade in. Not too bad as I got that for half price during a Black Friday sale. I got $150.00 Samsung credit for getting this phone. This Flip 3 is actually cheap. Adding all the credits and refund on my Pixel 4XL. It only cost me slightly over $200.00 (including tax).
This is ridiculous I just found out that the newly released iPhone 13 would have Dual eSIM support for all markets, and Samsung would not provide eSIM support for the US market.

Not true, note 20 ultra has esim.
