General S22 Ultra Random colour temp changes - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

So can we just stop to talk about the colour temps randomly changing? I've read one or two posts around the internet only one or two that I actually found. No one really knows if it's a bug or a feature, Samsung doesn't apparently even know themselves from what I've read in those posts. Can anyone shed some more light on this? Does anyone have any experience with this? Because what is Universal across the posts and my own experience is that we all have the eye comfort setting off and it happens with auto brightness on or off. People replying said to try using the advanced settings for the colours or the settings for the colours in the accessibility sub-menu. Problem is why does the screen randomly go from a clear white to a yellow tinted white in yhe first place, and how to fix it... Can't post photos since it's random, and well physically visual to the eye...

Before anyone asks I'm using the S22 Ultra 12-256gb exynos version

All variable refresh rate displays are extremely hard to color calibrate. It could be software, firmware, hardware or a combination.
Try running in safe mode at 60hz and go from there.
Clear system cache. Try a hard reboot.

It's not about calibration, it's literally the device changing the colour temps from clear white to white with a very very faint yellow tint. I'm past clearing cache and resetting since I've already flashed through odin numerous times. Safe mode doesn't change the behaviour.

My point being it's a very complex system. Return it for a cash refund if possible.

The period for returns is long gone unfortunately. Not to mention that I'm not leaning towards returning the device, I just want something that is clearly not hardware related to get fixed and someone to shed some more information on the subject of this bug or "feature"

Did it do on first boot up or when did you first notice it?

I've also noticed it, it changes to a yellowish white... I thought it just happened to me! It happens to me all the time and I don't know why 256/12 ram...
Maybe is this? I have it in cold colors and maybe it changes to yellowish

I have no idea when I first realised, at first I thought it's me so I ignored it but then I read somewhere about someone experiencing this, and that's when I started paying attention to it and looking for it and the more I did the more I saw it happen infront of my eyes even when going from one webpage to another... From an app to another and so on. It's possible it could be related to the vivid mode since I have it the same as the guy that just replied, the cool setting. And like he said without it it's just so yellow.
(Edit) from the other posts around the internet they realised it started happening after the AVC6 update. So who knows.

I've seen a 3rd party app, Google Reader screw up the user hidden display settings. Unistalling it did no good, had to reinstall it, and change the setting that cause it.
This however maybe purely a Samsung bug. Trying to fix it by a hodgepodge color setting mix or 3rd party color adjuster will not get it done although it may look less irritating. Color calibration for displays can not be done accurately by eye, it will be way off. The display also uses multiple color profiles and their calibration will go to hell as well. An unpredictable ripple effect will occur spanning all apps like vids, and images that depend on color calibration for accurate color/gamma reproduction. That's really messed up if so, a complete fubar.
If it's a Samsung bug, they need to fix this...

Oh so they are truly copying iPhones. Same thing happens with their current flagship

[Q] Everything on my note 10.1 screen looks like a film negative

My 2 1/2 year old son was playing with my Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet and seems that he change some settings on the tablet because everything (wallpaper to widgets to apps) all look like film negatives. Even Youtube videos have that effect. How do I get it back to the regular look? Do I just do a factory reset or is there other steps that I can go through without having to do the factory reset?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Thank you so much. I am still trying to learn all the functions of the note 10.1. Now I can go to bed .
No problem, glad to have helped
If you like to use it often, for any reason, there is a widget "negative colors", it's one click instead of going through settings.
Possible issues causing color inversion.
I see that this thread is almost 3 years old, but I wanted to offer some possible explanations and solutions to this issue.
There are 4 problems that can cause the colors on the Galaxy note 10.1 to become inverted or distorted. Settings, LCD flex cable, Display drivers, and the LCD itself.
First check settings (Settings>Accessibility>Negative Colors) and ensure that this is disabled (box unchecked).
If this hasn't solved the issue, then carefully open the back panel of the device, and ensure the the LCD flex cable is connected properly. YouTube has several instructional videos available.
If the issue persists, then perform a back-up and restore to factory settings. This will reinstall the display drivers.
Lastly, if all the above has not solved the issue, then replace the LCD or contact your local repair facility.
Anything beyond these would indicate a problem on the mother board.
I hopes this helps someone out there save time and money.

I'd like to thank you for this post. I was having issues with the color calibration and artifacting on my note that started one day for no reason. I followed the troubleshoot order you have posted here and found out the LCD connector had worked its way loose. So I split the case and re-sat the connector and now everything works great. Thanks for saving the $100 screen replacement cost.

color issue after screen off
My Note 10.1 2014 (P605) is ruining smoothly for 3.5+ years without much trouble. Now, it's screen is giving some color issue. Tab boots fine and colours shown correctly. Once screen is off, it start to invert (not sure whether the correct word) colours. Later I observed screen not switching on but accepting touch commands.
I tried color invert setting, it seems not effective. Flex cable was not loose but sometimes reconnecting resolved temporally. Re-flashed the OS but issue came up after few days. This may seems like screen fault, but screen working fine at boot till screen off.
Does anyone have similar experience or advice to help me out.

That's why you don't use yourself as a source lol. Unlike the Note 4 and other Amoled devices, the Gear S2 is designed to slightly shift/redraw the pixels every minute when using ambient mode. This prevents the burn-in you mention.

This isn't an issue with the S2.
If you notice while your watch is in ambient mode, the watch face isn't always centered. It moves around slightly every minute or so. You'll really notice this on watchfaces that have intricate ambient modes. Samsung does this to make sure it doesn't "burn in". I see it on the CWF Aquarius, and Pavilion by Liongate.
Rob
As others have said, burn in isn't an issue. I only use it when the watch face has a very minimal ambient mode. If it has too much going on, I turn it off since it is too hard on the battery.
Burn in still happen even with pixel shift, which is very common on plasma TV and oled, just it need a very long time before it become quite obvious, quite sure most of us will get a new watch before that.

I hope you`ve heard there are such things like third party watchfaces with their own, more complex ambient mode theme, not just stock stupid two hands.
I know, Samsung made simple, slightly shifting two hands, but even stock WF-s have ambient mode with constantly active pixels in the center.

Pictures are static and wouldn't show pixel shifts so that doesn't mean much... More complex ambient mode face designs doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't shift either if that function is applied system-wide at the tizen OS level. You also mistakenly assumed that only the hands shift...in reality the entire watch face shifts. One way or another, a documented source is more reliable than speculation or comparing to totally different devices like the Note 4.

This is why it is recommended to "dither" all block areas of an ambient watch face. It creates a grid of alternating on/off pixels, so if the image moves one pixel in any direction, ALL pixels that were on will turn off.
Otherwise it CAN reduce the lifetime of the individual subpixel color elements of the display (if you use only blue, only those will have shortened lifespan).

Hello MIUIers,
Ghost image or screen/image burn-in are names given to a permanent discoloration of your smartphone’s screen caused by irregular pixel usage. The prolonged use of static images can create a permanent shadow or ghost of that image on the screen. This problem is more common than you think, and happens most often on AMOLED screens (although LCD displays aren’t completely free of this bug). Fortunately, there is a solution to restore the image quality of your device.
The screen ghost happens when phosphor compounds that emit light to produce images lose their intensity with prolonged use. Moreover, the irregular use can "burn" an image onto the screen which will be visible all the time. Many apps which are available in the Play Store promise to reduce or even stop the problem. One is the Screen Burn-in Tool.
The concept is simple: a sequence of primary colors is displayed on your device, restoring the "burnt" pixels. In fact, this was the original function of computer screen-savers: one dynamic image that appears when the screen is idle to makes the pixels "exercise" and ensure that the same area of display doesn’t remain constantly illuminated.

Do it at your own risk!
Today I will teach you how to remove the famous burn.
White 80%
Blue 80%:
Green 90%:
Red 100%:
I can not guarantee it will work on other models, my cell phone had very strong shadows on the screen, I realize that almost everything has disappeared ... I'm still running the program, I'll keep you informed on this subject!
Yes, it works, although some report that this does not happen, but their effectiveness depends a lot on the severity of the recording.
If you have shadows from a keyboard or square or both you can remove everything or almost everything, I have the program running for a week at night, I restart the cell phone in the morning and normal use.
Download the Liquid Burn-in Wiper application and use one or four weeks at maximum brightness.
Restart the device once a day, you will have with some luck recovered 80% to 99% of the screen with shade or burn.
Mine at the moment recovered 80%.
Soon I will update the topic with new photos, please wait.

If you even repair the ones that say it is for OLED screen they use the basic color system (rgb) ... then any application that changes the default colors should work normal.
Yes, my friend, I do not know why they said no.
do the test yourself, let it run for a week and you will see the difference.

The rest screen is toprevent it from appearing.
You can use it, but it will take much longer, since we do not have a refresh of colors quickly and evenly.
If you want to contribute to the community, you can do some tests. :good:

I think what he meant was:
Does it work by burning the not-already burnt out parts to make it appear less burnt out?
I have Galaxy S5 that has pretty noticeable burn-in. When I view completely white image I can see bright white bars at the top and bottom of the screen, top bar even has few icons visible such as warning triangle at the left, i (info) and home at the right so apparently previous owner was using a lot of some kind of web browser at high brightness levels. Center of the screen is slightly dimmer and yellowish so I assume pixels have been burnt more there.
Now I have read about this AMOLED problem and as far as I know you indeed need to burn better pixels causing the ghost image to same level with the rest of the pixels to make ghost image disappear. I planned to try treating the lower ghost bar first and I already created black image same shape as the screen (but a little larger) having white bar at the bottom. I can view this image on my phone, zoom in and align the white bar to match the white bar of the ghost image while the rest of the screen is black. Then turn brightness all the way up and hope that pixels at the bottom of the screen wear out enough and ghost bar disappears. But I guess it'll take very long time. I'll try few hours per day for a week and see if it makes any difference compared to top ghost bar.
It's very difficult to align the image so that it's pixel perfect so there might be a chance that line or two of the brighter screen portion is covered by black area of the image. But I suppose having slightly brighter 1-2 pixel wide line across the screen is better than noticeably brighter large section of the screen.
I have been keeping the better pixels on at full brightness for total of 24 hours now and I can't see any difference. To me it seems that fixing amoled burn-in isn't a quick process but needs tens or hundreds of hours of screen burning to wear better pixels down to same level so that ghost image disappears. And that's pretty logical as burn-in itself doesn't occur overnight but during months of phone usage. Maybe I'll leave it as it is, my eyes have gotten somewhat used to it anyway. Not worth the trouble.

Question Watch face Issue (White Text Clock)

Hi guys
Need some help. Since the last update 9 Feb. I have this weird thing with custom watchfaces. It renders correctly... But as soon as the screen goes off (sleep) the watchfaces changes to this in the picture. And stays like this?
I don't have AOD enabled or anything. I'm. It sure if it's a setting somewhere... But the stock faces is okay.
It's driving me crazy hehe. Not sure why this is happening...
I need to basically uninstall and reinstall the face but then it happens again..

They will have to fix with a patch or something... Alot of faces affected....
It think the original poster of this thread is posting a different (but possibly related) bug than what others are following up on. I believe most of this is about using AOD and sometimes the screen is not updating in ambient (low-power) mode. While this is happening to me, as well, I have not seen the white digital clock appear on my AOD display, ever.
In any case, and I am not sure it will make any difference, but I did report this to Samsung through my Samsung account by opening a "my questions" with the following (most of which from my posting on the other thread on this forum):
After the recent R890XXU1EVA8/R8900XM1EVA8 firmware update, I am experiencing major problems with the always-on display:
There are times that when in lower-power (ambient) mode, it is NOT updating any information on the screen (analog or digital). If I touch the screen, do the "wake up" wrist move, or touch a button, it immediately updates everything. It is unpredictable and intermittent. Prior to this last update, it ALWAYS updated the AOD screen in any condition. Now when I glance down at the watch, I am not sure if that is the actual time or not. And that defeats one of the main purposes of having AOD.
Worse, at other random times, it resists waking from low-power mode, even when pressing a button. I have to press several times and there is a long delay before it goes full-awake, updates the screen, and gives me control. Sometimes when it is acting like this (as if the face is "frozen"), it also doesn't automatically adjust the AOD screen brightness to environmental conditions, either.
And it is not just me. Many others are reporting this on the xda-developers forum:
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 gets new straps, faces...
FYI, a few items for our Samsung Galaxy watch 4 ⌚: https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-watch-4-straps-2022-3103478/
forum.xda-developers.com
And on Reddit, one user suggested this as a possible root cause:
“For watchfaces that make use of WatchFaceService.Engine, the onTimeTick() method is called once a minute to update the watch screen when in ambient mode. This allows the watch to display the correct time, even when the user hasn't interacted with the watch recently. After the latest GW4 system update, the onTimeTick() method is no longer being called while in ambient mode. This seems like a newly-introduced bug, but could just possibly be a misguided attempt to save battery.”
I would appreciate it if you would look into this, because it is absolutely ruining my experience with your product. Thanks

Well, that was a waste. I got an Email saying I had to report it through "help" on the website. So I went there and did a chat and had to escalate to a "pro" who could take the information for a ticket. Now I have a ticket number. Who knows if it will get anywhere from there. But at least I tried (twice).

Im spamming update button, but i have a sneaky suspicion, its going to stay like that. I dont tink its a bug, but rather an enhancement or something. (You know Samsung)
I think the watchmakers will need to update their watches to not use that stay awake function thing....(All my old favourite watch faces broken :'()
Hopefully im wrong......... LOL
I have this same problem still, even after latest update a few days ago, it's so frustrating that I can only really use Samsung's watchfaces at the moment! Does anyone know any sort of workaround?

Note 10 Lite's screen stops working after some time

I've had a Galaxy Note 10 Lite for some time now and it started displaying this behaviour where the screen stops working after some time of the phone being on.
There's no apparent connection to how hot the phone is.
I've also re-sat all the straps and cables and cleaned them with isopropyl alcohol.
Sometimes during use, I'll see some quick greenish/purple-ish glitches on the screen. But, apart from that, it'll look amazing the whole time.
Also, sometimes, as I use it, the screen will freeze during whatever is happening on the screen and the image will refresh if I press it down on the 2/4 area from the top down.
Then, if I leave the phone for a few minutes with the screen either on or off, I could come back to it being unresponsive. At first, I thought it was turning off. But if I press the screenshot buttons, it'll vibrate and save the screenshot that I'll be able to see after I soft reset the phone back to life (it'll reboot by itself from time to time, though).
The time it takes for it to "die" varies from seconds to minutes to hours. But it's become unreliable and had to buy a new phone.
I thought about replacing the screen, but it costs as much as a new phone here in Brazil.
What I'm thinking is maybe there's some cable or something I could access on the screen to inhibit this behaviour.
Can anyone help me out with insights?
Cheers,
Uriel

Try in safe mode.
Clear system cache.
Try a hard reboot.
Any uncased drops or water exposure?
Just tried safe mode and the screen started all messed up, with elements that should be organised scattered all over it.
Now... I'm soft rebooting it and it goes straight to a dark screen after showing the Samsung logo.
I was going to try clearing the cache next, but now I need to get access back to the system.
I've done a hard reboot to no avail.
It was exposed to water years ago, which resulted on a screen issue that was fixed by Samsung by replacing it.
Ok. I got safe mode successfully activated now. I'll give it time but I don't feel too optimistic about it.

May have water damaged ribbon cable contacts, or water damage on the mobo is now showing up; corrosion never sleeps. Maybe another display failure. Maybe a loose cable; carefully inspect all display cables on both ends and their sockets. A failed ribbon cable.
Finally a corrupted rom or user data partition.
These phones are relatively inexpensive now, even new ones can still be had. The N10+ be an upgrade if you like it. If repair doesn't work you have other options.
The newer Samsung's suck. This generation of Notes was the zenith for Samsung and the Note... in my opinion. I have two N10+'s and they run like bats out of hell. Solid, well built, work horses that just keep running. This one in my hand has over 8k hours on it, looks, feels and runs like it's new with one battery replacement. Zero display flaws, current load is over 2 yo, still fast and stable with minimal maintenance. That's what these phones are capable of.

Never know, could be a 3rd party app.
So, this happened. And it rebooted right after I stopped recording.
Yeah looks like the display but you won't know what it is without opening it up.
Don't think a factory reset or reflash will help... I could be wrong.

Yep. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue.
I don't know how to get access to the other end of the ribbons that go into the screen, though. I'll see what I can do.
Cheers!

Watch some tear down vids. Have the right tools and take your time. With used ones going for a couple hundred that's another option.
I'm surprised how well my N10+ has held up, it's always cased. Water exposure is a killer. Even if it's IP68 rated, keep it away from water, especially salt water.
I hope is the backlight issue on the logic board
