I just got this device, model D6633. Seems that it's just the same as regular Z3 except for dual SIM card. I was wondering if root will be achievable on this model once its out for the single SIM Z3?
Thanks! Fantastic phone by the way. best allrounder on the market
As my experience with Note 3 Duos, there is no differences in rooting and recovery conpare to 1 sim variant.
Ps: is Z3 Dual enable HSPA on both sim, OP?
Im actually curious about this as well as I have the opportunity to get the Dual sim version but need to root

Where did you buy it? Online? I'm looking for importing it from Poland, the only European country who looks to be receiving it.
How's the dual sim's functionality? For example when you receive or do a call or a SMS, is there a button to switch lines or what? Where do you put the second SIM? Is the flap bigger? Sorry for questions, never had a Sony Dual...

The microSD card is moved next to the charger which now has a bigger flap. Both SIMs go next to each other in the right side flap. I'm only using it with 1 SIM card right now, but on the Call buttons and so on there's a small "1" so I'm guessing if I had two SIM cards there would be two buttons or some way to make the call from whichever SIM you want. You cannot also use two simultaneous data connections. the whole setup is pretty neat to be honest. Loving this, can't wait to travel now. lol.
I bought it locally (I live in Beirut, Lebanon) for 800 USD. Pretty steep but that's the way things go around here.

Interesting, some questions:
1. are the sim, both NanoSIM?
2. both data connection simultaneous, means you can have double speed??? That would be awesome
3. Youyr version is 16GB? Any news if exist 32GB variant?

1. Yes
2. I'm extremely sorry, I made a (big) typo. I meant you CANNOT do that. post edited.
3. 16GB. The supplier said only the single SIM Z3 had a 32GB variant. he may be right and just as easily wrong.

According to this only the D6616 has a 32GB option. That's disappointing as the D6603 will be the 'mainstream' model.

Could you change your sim to sim 2 slot and test 3G/HSPA with your phone? On my Note 3, sim 2 slot only work in 2G/Edge mode.
how is the battery life on the dual sim version? is it similar to the D6603?

I got 7 hours of screen on time and 20 hours of standby and I still had 9%. Unreal. All this without even Greenify and debloating.
Oh I got the answer when OP did not answer my question . I'm looking to buy Z3 Dual in next some days.

That is inaccurate. check my post on page 1 containing a screenshot that clearly shows you can only use one SIM data connection.
Do you mean, that you can only use one connection at a time or that one slot is 2g/3g/4g and one is only 2g?

He misunderstand my meaning. He installed one sim and don't want to change sim slot to test. As Z3 D6633 manual: only one 3G/4G connection at a give time but on any slot/sim.
My Note 3 Duos has 1 slot can be used as 3G connection, another only for 2G

Hello,
I attempted to activate esim on t-mobile postpaid that did not go anywhere even though others have activated esim on pixel 3 before the t-mobile ban on postpaid accounts. T-mobile has stopped enabling esim on postpaid accounts for unknown reasons. It only enables esim on certain prepaid accounts and only on iphones.
Any other experiences with t-mobile or other carriers?
Confirmed working on Fi.

T-Mobile requires you use there app for esim. The iPhone is the only one that supports it at the Momment
I have T-Mobile and I was able to get the eSim activated on the 3a Xl . All I did was tell them I wanted to do a sim card swap and I provided the EID number. Took them a few minutes and they were done. BTW this was on a Postpaid account.

Phone call or chat? I had no luck with chat.
Did you use the full esim number - that is a very long number. Trying to duplicate your effort.
Thanks

called t-mobile and gave them the full esim number. Then uses this guide. Works great!
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/a4507u/esim_works_heres_how_to_activate/
I got it activated on my Pixel 3a XL through chat. They asked me why I was changing sims, and I just told them I wanted to try out esim. They said ok and did the swap. I'm postpaid.
It's easier through chat because of the long EID number.

I guess I've had really bad luck because I have not been able to get esim activated with chat twice. That's the way it goes we'll try again. It is hit and miss.
Thanks guys for the information. Did another chat this morning asking for sim activation. Did not mention esim. Completed in about 2 minutes did not even have to reboot my phone. Nice. I can use the physical sim slot for something else now.

Generally curious as I am new to the Android side of things. What can you use the SIM slot for if you do esim? What is the benefit outside of saying you don't need a physical SIM?

I use an ATT MVNO Sim when I am not in a t-mobile area which is rare. I don't need two phones any more. One can do the same for the latest iPhone.
Actually there are other phones that have two sims like one plus, but two sim phones are rare in the USA but common in other countries. It has to do with the carriers. It would really nice if this feature discussed on the link below is included in android Q.
https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/...s-half-baked-dual-sim-support-to-the-pixel-3/
So two sims phones hopefully will become the norm in the USA since iPhone has this option and everyone copies Apple. Anyway I could be wrong but I think the Pixel had the esim before the iPhone.

I'm self employed and having dual sim is huge for me, no more having to carry two phone is big. This implementation sucks compared to real dual sim where you can have both active but it's still ahead of packing two phones around.

So at the moment, does your Pixel have DSDS capability? And if not (or before you enabled that functionality), are you at least able to take advantage of the physical sim slot by selecting it under network settings as the preferred option when you want to use the ATT network rather than the esim?
I had been using OnePlus phones with their dual SIM functionality for a long time by always keeping a T-Mobile SIM in one while using my China Mobile SIM in the other during my frequent trips into China. This enables me to keep a local number and avoid the internet censorship that is increasingly prevalent is most areas of the country.

Also. Currently using dual SIM in China. You will need to do the following to make network work reliable with all apps. This is a problem with pixel phones.

I had this problem when I arrived in China. Now everything works great after the above modifications.

Thanks for replying. However, I didn't really get an answer to what I was looking for. I had also previously read the article in Android Police and I know what DSDS is. My previous OnePlus operated as such. The article suggests that DSDS is no longer an option unless you elected it in an earlier beta release. HOWEVER, I only want to know whether you are able to choose one or the other between your eSIM and your physical SIM slot? You will not get both signals at the same time. I understand that. But I'm just interested to see if I can elect via Settings to choose either the eSIM or a separate SIM card and use that one only.
With respect to the contents of the evil42.com article, I fortunately don't have those problems. Thanks for your help.

Apple 13 series supports dual ESIM at same time. But even this new s22 ultra does not. Its very strange why such capable fone is limited by samsung in this way. Yesterday i tried but out of 2 esim only one can work at anytime. What a Bummer..
Never tried it, But that's a bummer indeed. I was thinking of converting both my sims to eSim and keep the roaming sim in physical slot always...
Sim plus esim work at the same time.
So on iphone you can have two or more active esims at the same time?
I had an iphone 13 pro max and I could only have 1 active ESIM so I had my SIM for travel and ESIM for domestic.

Any disadvantage in having esim
Yes you can have two eSIM active together within same time.
disadvantage would be if you need to move the sim to other phone. As for the rest, i'd say, eSIM is better than SIM

You actually cannot have two eSIMs active at the same time. Only a few of us ever had that capability and we all appear to have had it removed at some point. Now it's a matter of waiting for Google to add the feature but I'm not holding my breath.

Thank you so much
I haven't had the best experience so far with my two Sims on my Pixel 7 Pro. Even though I have assigned certain contacts with designated calling SIMs, often times the call is still made with wrong SIM. This is annoying because this ends up giving those contacts my personal number instead of my work number. Both sims are with Verizon, so ideally both should have good service at the same time or bad service at the same time. It would make sense if one sim was with AT&T for example and had no cell service, so the phone would understandably fails over to the other sim to make the call - but I don't see that being the case here.
Hi,
Does anyone know if it's possible to use 2 eSIMs at the same time, without having any physical SIM inserted?
Currently I can only get it to use SIM2 for my eSIMs.
Kind regards
From what i am seeing, yes, you can setup 2 eSIMs on the device, but since there are two IMEIs, the SIM tray cannot be used then
No, MEP doesn't appear to be supported.
We can register any number of e-SIMs. However, only one can be active at a time.

In addition, you can use a SIM card together with eSIM and both are active at a time. turned out to work well for me.
You can use:
