Question There is any way I can put phone on night charging and tell the phone stop charge? - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

I want to charge the phone at night with slowly wireless charging, but I want the phone stop at 85% and not keep charging.
I heard something about that if the phone stops at 85%, it will be drain to 84% and go up again to 85% if its still on charger, and that's not good for me.
Someone know if there is any option to stop the charging on percent I decide, no matter if the phone continue to be on charging cable?

This is doable with Bixby Routines

I believe there are some root solutions you can use to limit the battery charge, although I can't remember off the top of my head what they are. Without root, your only option is something external like Chargie.

You can use AccuBattery and IFTTT with a smart plug to terminate charging. I have found this to be much more reliable than using a Bixby routine.

Ive got accubattery, but how do it do it there?

For root phone (I'm not sure if it's too for non-root) here is Advanced Charging Controller.
you can set to which % to charge and more.

I've been running two of these devices for a couple of weeks now. They are working well thus far. My only criticisms are the 3d printed housings and the price.

You set AccuBattery to your desired charge limit and then when that limit is reached, it will create a notification stating that the desired charge limit has been reached, please disconnect your charger. You give IFTTT permission to read AccuBattery’s notifications and then create an IFTTT applet which looks at AccuBatter’s notifications and when it sees a notification containing the word disconnect, it instructs a smart plug’s app to turn the smart plug off. I have been using this system for several years now and I have the smart plug programmed to come on about an hour before I get up in the morning. I plug my phone into the charger before I go to sleep each night. When I get up in the morning my phone is charged to 78% and the phone’s battery barely deteriorates after being used for these years.

I use this one but I will take a look into Bixby Routines, it looks like Tasker apparently.

There is a setting in battery and device care>battery>more battery settings>battery protection. Will pause charging when it hits 85%

Your screenshot is of the Battery Charge Limit app, which requires a rooted device in order to function. I have it installed and running on a rooted Pixel 2 XL.

What is IFTTT?
edit:
searched about it on google, its very similar for bixby routines. does the bixby routines will work the same if I set battery protection?

But does the bixby routines of battery protection actually work like I wish? that when the battery get 85% (or how much I set) so it will be stop charging?
I want it to stop when it comes to the percent I set

Currently on my 3 year old Note 9, awaiting delivery of my S22U, as with previous phones, I disable fast charging, if the phone has the feature, as it generally isn't good for battery life expectancy. I always plan to keep my phone longer than the one or two years many people do, so battery health/life is important to me. I have a timer-socket adapter, like this, I use for through-the-night charging, whereby, I set a timer duration, depending on the battery level at bedtime. I'll perhaps set the timer to be on and charging the phone between 4 & 5:30am. Apart from the first few charging cycles of a new phone, I don't like to fully charge/discharge the phone often, only occasionally. I top the charge up during the day, if need be, in the car etc but I never use wireless charging even though my car has the ability to. I'll probably start using the wireless charging with my S22U though, as not using it probably doesn't lengthen the expectancy by much. I appreciate battery charging technology has improved greatly recently, I'm just stuck in my ways I guess.

There is also the app, Battery Charge Limit [ROOT] You set the maximum charge level the phone will reach and a minimum, at which point the phone begins to charge again. For example, it will cease charging at 85% abd begin charging again at 50%

I dont want it to charge again, this is exactly the point. I want it to be sure for me that once it receiving the percent i set, with protection battery, it will stop charging.

You could set the minimum charge level to 1% or if you used the timer-socket method it would cease charging at your predefined time and not start again

Think your best bet is to use the timer=socket method. That way, when it reaches 85% and stops charging and then the timer reaches your predefined 'stopping' time, it will not charge again.

ICS - Deep Sleep issue... Related to Charging?

I've seen similar comments on this, but not necessarily the same issue I'm seeing...
As with many issue's with the ICS install, this is one of those where it "suddenly" began with no explanation as to why when previously everything was working fine. I have two Skyrockets and one started to experience this while the other did not... then suddenly, just as though an internal timer had been set, it also began to experience the same issue. I will add that the second phone is my test phone and has nothing installed other than what came with the original ROM.
SUMMARY:
Initially my battery life was awesome, but then suddenly saw a huge drop off; I confirmed it to be a problem with the phone not entering a deep sleep state; obviously I began looking to see what app may be causing this, disabling services, putting phone in airplane mode, etc.... nothing resolved it and as far as I could determine there was nothing unusual about any app running... a reboot ALWAYS resolved the problem.
ANALYSIS:
I determined that making a connection to any charging source "triggered" the issue... Using CPU Spy I could confirm that the phone would enter Deep Sleep mode; I did this multiple times (resetting timers) without fail. I then plugged in the phone to the charging source (I've tested both the power block and USB connection), waited until the phone detected the source then unplugged the cable. I then repeated the same steps to confirm Deep Sleep using CPU Spy and this time, the phone would never enter Deep Sleep, but instead would only drop down to 384MHz.... once again a reboot will resolve the issue until the next time a power source is plugged in.
One note to mention, on one of my phones, I have to charge it to 100% before it exhibits the issue while the other will always see the issue regardless of battery level.
I have also confirmed this to occur with a default install of ICS; no apps installed, etc. Is anyone else experiencing a similar situation and if so, any ideas as to what may causing the problem?
The phone doesn't sleep when plugged in
If you read my post, I didn't say I was expecting it to sleep when plugged in, I said, plugging in a power source triggered the problem. I then remove the cable and re-confirm whether the phone is not able to enter a Deep Sleep state...

Is wifi involved?
I think i see the same issue here. after a reboot battery life is better. next day battery life short. Phone will not go in to deep sleep. Is there an easy way to trouble shoot deep sleep issues?

WiFi and GPS are off for me.
Wifi doesn't appear to make a difference as one phone is in airplane mode while the other is my daily phone. I do have it shutting off wifi when sleeping.
Again, to reiterate, the issue is seen ONLY AFTER connecting the phone to any power source... even if for only a few seconds. Until this connection is made, the phone will ALWAYS enter Deep Sleep.
Very easy to test:
1. Using an app to monitor CPU states (I used CPU Spy), I reset timers and put phone into sleep mode (hitting power button).... wait a few seconds to allow the timers to populate.
2. Bring phone out of sleep mode (press power button) and confirm CPU states... In this case, Deep Sleep is the majority of the time, with some usage seen on 384MHz
3. Connect power source, let phone detect it, then UNPLUG cable. At this point, phone is not charging.
4 Using app, confirm CPU states; in my case it shows various speeds used (majority 384) but Deep Sleep is no longer seen and listed as an unused state
5. Just to confirm, reset timers again, put phone to sleep, let sit a few seconds to allow timers to populate.
6. Confirm CPU states again, once again, Deep Sleep state is NOT used and listed under unused CPU states.
7. Reboot phone and repeat steps 1 & 2 and you will again see the phone is able to enter Deep Sleep state.

Tested with various usb cables?
Various cables and source; e.g. power block and/or USB connected to PC. It would appear, as far as I can tell, that any power source "triggers" something to prevent it from entering a Deep Sleep state.

Got me thinking on this and it reminded me of the troubleshooting we were doing with the battery getting stuck at 100%...
Although I've tested this with multiple chargers, cables, etc.... I just tested using a very short USB cable I have, approx. 8" or so. Good news, it appears to "reset" whatever is causing the problem and I now get my Deep Sleep state back. I also re-tested this same setup with the OEM USB cable (which I already done), but still still the problem. So, something about the short cable is different; guessing signal impedance or something similar.

At the house i have a 5 inch cable. I will test with that later tonight. Glad you made a post about this. It was driving me crazy. Maybe its a work around. It sure would be nice to figure out what is causing this issue so that all cables work.
Well this sucks. Most likely an unfinished kernel, which we can't fix without the source.

Glad things are working for you, are you rooted? This would be the only scenario I've not tested.
To clarify, everything was working fine for me for awhile on two phones, then suddenly this issue surfaced. I've reinstalled, wiped cache, etc with no resolution... Although the short cable work around resolves the issue, I travel 100% of the time for work and don't want to have to worry about battery life, so I've gone back to 2.3.6 (Nexus4) and no longer experience the problem.

I'm running a rooted I flashed with the OneClick .exe and rooted it. My phone is entering deep sleep even after being plugged in. I am using the charger that came with my Nexus One with the OEM Dock. I will test it again at work where I use the same charger without the dock and see if it changes.
The short cable does seem to do something. I have two longer cables and after using one of those the phone will not go to deep sleep until a reboot. below is what i am using.
[ROM] MHX-SUPERLITE-3.1 Stable *Latest UCLA3 Base* ~Get Longer Battery Life~
Kernel]Skyrocket[2.6.35.14](010)OC~1.73GHz/GPU OC/OTG/UV/SLQB/BLN[Mar-09]
Just check at work. Phone will still go into Depp sleep after charging with the charger that came with my HTC Nexus One. I have not tried cgarging it with the cable and AC / USB converter that came with it.
Update on this issue....
I did a Darkside wipe to see if I could clean things up and while all issue's I was experiencing, such as power off/reboot hang, etc have been resolved, I still see this issue when I do not use a Samsung charger (power block) of any kind.
I can now easily reproduce this issue 100% using an Apple power block with the OEM cable. The good news is, I no longer need to use my short USB cable connected to my PC (Mac) to correct the problem; if I simply use the OEM power block it will also reset the problem... very strange behavior.
They had a problem similar to this over in the at&t Note forum. The phone would not enter deep sleep after charging. They were able to enable deep sleep by turning on the screen before unplugging the phone from the charger. It wasn't a real fix but it allowed deep sleep to happen every time. Maybe you are having a similar issue with your kernel. Hope this helps.

Overnight charging wake lock issue? Airplane mode?

OK guys so I have a serious issue with the battery not charging at nights, when I plug my phone in. I frequently wake up to a hot phone with only 35% charge and it's been on the charger for 8+hours.
I have a strong feeling this has something to do with it being on airplane mode... Which by the way I have done for years at bed time with no issues until recently.
I need some help with this because I can't figure it out.
Here are my better battery stats from boot when I wake up and it's still on the charger. (Please note I can't do it from unplugged as the issue is charging)

your wakelocks have nothing to do with it not charging, check your usb chord or charger(use a different chord and charger). when your plugged in, does it say AC or USB?
It says AC and my charging cord is perfectly fine.
LOOK at the battery stats man, it's 2.27GHz while phone is supposed to be sleeping.
In the stats I've posted is the issue, I just need help to figure out which part
Partial WakeLocks audioIn. Maybe with the new Google now has WakeLocks on airplane mode trying to fetch data??
yea, and 55% is way to high. its normal to wake for a minute here and there, but 55% is extreme. reboot your phone, it looks like a stuck process.
Not sure bout the n5 but other phones I've had stay awake whilst charging not deep sleep.
Obviously something is wrong here but I can't see that no deep sleep is the cause.

Took a nap again. While sleeping:
what rom/kernel are you using? havevyou considered a factory reset?
Unusual issue for sure. I'd just fastboot stock on it, and see how it is before installing anything. Rule out hardware. ?
Purity ROM/code blue kernel.
It's certainly not hardware issue because my phone has gained 3-4% in the last 5 minutes while checking this forum and replying to this msg. After a fresh restart with the phone still plugged in, sometimes that gets past the issue.
It has something to do with airplane more and charging I think..although it also wasn't getting past 0% while using phone earlier today without airplane mode.... :s
I'm gonna do have to do a wipe and fresh install of ROM and Kernel
So full wipe and reinstall ROM and Kernel. Problem still exists.
Wakelocks are coming from
Google Search/AudioIn primarily.
I have "ok google" enabled from any screen including lock screen. This may have something to do with it however what's the point in making this a option with Google Now if you can't even charge your phone above 40%.. Due to constant wakelocks..
Either that or it has something to do with Google now trying to use data in combo with AudioIn when airplane mode is on

Clearly.. Understood. I know what it does man..
But if one can't charge their phone with an 1.2A AC adapter during the night over an 8h period.. is this really a viable option to use "OK google" from any screen??
Others with this option enabled are you experiencing charing issues?
Doesn't this phone have a "sub processor" used for this type of activity in order to avoid full CPU usage?
It's using the top CPU freq and I've been trying to figure out this issue for a few weeks now.

Honestly, is it really a useful option to use in the first place, other than for showing off?
The low-powered core in the Nexus 5 is used for a hardware pedometer (ask Google why) rather than for audio listening or music playing capability. Unlocking/modifying it's capability would be diving into legal ramifications without permission. Hence why it uses a wakelock, which in turn makes it useless unless you don't care about battery at all.

I'm not the one to tell you that since I've had it entirely disabled since day one.
It could be that the AudioIn wakelock that Google Search is using also wakes Google Play Services, which then wakes your device even more. Looking at your screenshots in the first post, Google Play Services woke your device "619 times over 13hrs 39mins, 45.3 per hour".
Although not a solution, but using some kind of quiet hours app may appease your need for airplane mode

People that just love this Google now any screen issue are going to have to just accept it's a battery hog. Or get a moto X and have this feature even when the screen is off. No wakelocks and no real battery drain.
As far as having trouble charging, one solution is turning the feature off, charge the phone, then turn it on again.
Google puts features like this out cause of a demand... And they probably don't care if it's hard on the battery. People wanted it and they gave it to them.

So currently I'm using my new xperia z5.. It's one week already since i have this phone. I noticed that my phone drain battery real quick.. It's quite make me sad. But the good thing is when i wanted to charge it.. It charge so fast.. Like maybe 30 minutes for 40% increase.. And btw

Am i supposed to factory reset it or anything i could do?? And Btw I'm using the UCH20 ( i read in the sony that itsn't quick charging) but I'm happy with the charging though..
It is fast.. But also fast to drain
Please guys help me D':

Anyway, I can't even get my Quick Charger to perform that well so maybe OP should let the battery discharge fully and then charge fully to maybe calibrate the battery.

Oops. Didn't read correctly. Also are you using the charger that came out of the box? I don't think that is quick charge.
Maybe try using a normal charger instead of a quick charger? I don't use quick charge and normally get 4-5 hours SOT.
UCH20 is a "normal" charger. UCH10 is the Sony Quick Charge one but doesn't come with every Z5.

What about auto sync, and location settings too. Those have an impact on battery drain also. I leave auto sync off,and havw location on battery save mode. It helps. I came from a z3 which had awesome battery life, but I totally agree here about the z5's battery. Hope marshmallow helps.
Will anybody perform a reset after the new marshmallow?
Is it needed?

Your welcome. Ok, go into settings, accounts, and then top right press the 3 dot menu and itshould be there,if it's on it should be checked, just Un check it.
I use an app for toggles called power toggles, and in this app there is a manual sync all button. So when I want to sync(primarily to sync Gmail) I can just press it,and my mail shows up. I could also just go to Gmail and slide screen down to sync.
Hope this helps.
How many hours SOT are you guys getting?

Mine was checked! Deactivated automatic synchronization! Thank you! Also deactivated google location history too!
I'm always running in stamina mode too. I also use extended standby and extended usage both checked. I have run the phone with out stamina and it doesn't perform and better, but the battery drains 2 times faster when not in stamina mode.

That's so true.. It happens to me either. Now i think that Sony phone is quite disappointing for now.. and at the end i hope that they fix this asap next year :3
Make sure wifi scanning even when wifi is off is turned off and put location settings on battery saving (mobile network and wifi only).
Also switch to 2g when not using internet. Switch to 2G voice and text only.
Then you can add a mobile data and 4g toggle on the quick setting toggles and when you want internet press 4g then mobile data, then when finished press mobile data toggle and then turn 4g off and it will go back to 2g.
You should also check in google account that anything you don't need syncing like google music, books, games etc is not syncing.
Fast chargers work fine and won't impact battery life short term. I get 5hours SOT using Galaxy S6 fast charger.

Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the Xiaomi Mi 5's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
If anyone could post the standby drain overnight it would be great. I would like to know how much % is lost during night time....
This one is from mine:

It's 20% over 9 hours, so it's around 2% per hour. Everything is still on: sync (3 email accounts, 7 social media apps), wifi, bluetooth, etc.
I'd really like help with this area, if anyone can give me any advice. If I charge my phone to 100% at night then unplug it, when I wake up in the morning it's down to less than 50%. This is with pretty much nothing on, no wifi, data, bluetooth etc. This happens most of the time, but not all the time (when it doesn't I can get a few days of use out of the phone), and I've yet to identify and fix the exact cause.
Haven't empirically tested, but I seem to get more battery life when in continual use (listening to music off and on, etc), then when resting overnight/for long periods.
I can give any details needed, but I'm using Cyanogenmod 13.0-20160908. Have tried Doze, and GSam (can post any logs if I know what's useful), and Wakelock detector. Would changing roms help?

Hi Khazidhea,
I can tell for sure that it is NOT NORMAL that your phone drains about 7 to 8% of battery life each hour !
Especially if you disconnect Wi-Fi and BT.
The only thing I can think of, is that you are in an area where the phone constantly switches from 3G to 4G to get on the network.
Of course, if you have 2 SIM cards in that phone, that may increase the drain significantly...
I think that if you are on Cyanogen, there is an option in Settings that is called "SIM Cards".
If you select that option, you should be able to have some access to settings for each SIM Card.
Try to select one and look for the option called "Preferred Network" and select something like "WCDMA" or "GSM" (that is 2G in the US and 2G in Europe).
See if that improves...
As far as I am concerned, I run my Xiaomi mi5 with a ROM called "Tipsy-OS" that I have compiled myself...
So far, I am unplugged since 2 hours, have used the phone with 4G, BT, Wi-Fi, automatic updates of apps, mail retrieving, applied themes via substratum... and lost 2%.
So no, 8%/hour without doing anything is NOT NORMAL !
Regards.
I finally ended up fixing this. Simply changing the setting "Preferred network type" from 4G to 3G made my battery usage change from about 2/3 of a day, to up to 4 days, with my typical pattern of usage. Note that when my battery was being drained before I did not have data turned on, so not sure why that ended up being the fix.

If 4G coverage is bad in your area, it will trigger reconnection over and over again, causing battery drain. The protocol itself is indeed more battery consuming in general, but shouldn't have much gap with 3G under the same coverage quality.
% 5 full network bltooth
seems mine 1-2%per hour all sync on, wifi.

I can confirm same here LOS airplane mode = 0am till 6am 100% to 98 or 97 % so at max decrease a 1/2% an hour.
In a non-airplane mode with WiFi connected I get a bit more than 1%/h with greenify activated.
I posted in another thread but i've got no answer.
I decided to switch to Global Dev ROM thinking it might solve my battery issues, but it only got worse, im getting around 40% battery drain overnight. Any ideas???? I don't have mi sync enabled, google play is set to not auto-update apps, i barely use mobile data, so only wifi.

Official Global Dev, so i noticed that "Lite Messenger Facebook" was draining the battery like h3ll, i uninstalled it and now i've been using my phone for an entirely day browsing/email/duolingo and half battery has gone, the way it is going i will have to charge every 2 days or so. In the meantime i might just use facebook messenger through the browser.
Although Global Dev is fine, there are some bugs and MiFit does not want to sign in, i might go back to Global Rom when 8.2 comes out to Mi5.
Thank You!

Question Sometimes Only Receive Texts After Restart

Hey All,
So I have an unlocked S22 Ultra and have my Verizon SIM card installed. Over the last week or 2 I have noticed that occasionally, not all the time I will notice I am not receiving text messages. Once I realize it has been hours I will restart my phone. Once I restart, the text messages come flooding in. Does anyone have any idea what can be causing this and a possible fix/resolution?
Thanks.
Is global power management active?
Developer options>standby apps, all buckets should show as active otherwise global power management is active. It will cause erratic behaviors. It's not needed or desirable, it never did work well. It can not be disable here though.
Example: how its controls appear on a Samsung N10+ in Device Care, battery, it's usually a little buried but it's there. You'll find something similar to this. It's part of the core Android system.
These settings will cause trouble...

So here is an example of my screen when I go into Dev Options > Standby Apps. Looks like global power management is active. I can't find the settings page of your screenshot on my S22 however. I can tell you that I do have adaptive battery enabled but I can't seem to find those other settings. Thanks.

Yeap it's active and raising hell.
Doesn't even do much in terms of power savings and can even make it worse even after its "adapted"
Look around, the setting for it is there. On individual apps toggling the don't use battery in the background does not invoke global power management.

They're not needed which is why they're disabled.
Just tested them; it's adaptive battery that invokes it.

Yes, if that's the cause. It's a known troublemaker. For me if listening to Poweramp via bt it will kill it in a few minutes, very annoying if you don't know where to look.
If you disabled any of the many small Samsung system apks, that may be the cause. Most use little or no resources and are best left alone.

You don't need to disable Adaptive Battery. Add your texting app to never sleeping apps.
Device Care - > Battery - > Background usage limits - > Never sleeping apps. Hit the plus sign and add the apps you don't want to sleep.

In my case that solution didn't work and it continued to misbehave anyway...
Adaptive battery never worked right. It never adapted even after a week and the excessive battery drain continued unabated.
Deal with power hogs on a case by case basis instead. Android will run better without it once optimized.
Lazy solutions yield inferior results.

Just a quick update. I did disable adaptive battery and I noticed a major difference in my battery life (much worse). I re-enabled adaptive battery and it seems to have taken a week or so for my battery life to be where it was at pre-disabling of adaptive battery. What I did was just go into the messages app settings and set it to unrestricted and so far so good.

It needs to be optimized. Adaptive battery is a lame stop gap measure. An optimized device produces superior SOT and standby mode battery times. I tried it all different kinds of ways, for months... it was too much fun
An optimized N10+ gets double the battery life...

Don't listen to him, you do as you please with Adaptive battery if you are seeing the results for itself.
He has a Note 10+ running Android 9 or 10, not a S22 Ultra with Android 12.
You did it the correct way, which was go into Messages and put it to Unrestricted.
You can do that for every app which you need notifications from at all times. I have it set like that for my email app, Outlook for work, Whatsapp, etc.

I pretty much hunted the hogs down one by one.
Then I try optimize the app by settings if it was useful. Otherwise disable it usually with Package Disabler. To blindly use a list will cause trouble as you don't know what or how the app function or their dependencies if any. Each user is unique and so will be their lists and solutions.
The learning curse is a bit steeper with Androids to get the most out of them. It's sort of like asking someone how to use a computer. No simple answer other then to play with until you have specific questions to ask. I play with my N10+ on and off when bored or have an issue.
I never do firmware updates or upgrades as this will create issues. Most apps I never update either. Don't change the playing field if the device is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission.

Lol, adaptive battery never work right. I'm getting 11-12hrs SOT with a derated 3600 mAh battery.
Of course if I followed your advice I get the same lousy SOT as you do even if I had a new battery.
If I didn't optimize and didn't use adaptive battery the SOT be even worse.
Adaptive battery is a bandaid for the lazy and inept, but you're still gonna be ozzing cpu cycles.
