Question Pixel call screening on S22? - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Was wondering if it were possible for the call screening that is in the pixels where Google assistant answered the phone for you with a transcript of the call? Had a pixel 4a 5G for a little while and loved the feature. Just wanted the whole Samsung ecosystem back especially with my galaxy watch 4.

I don't believe this is possible. It's one of the pixel exclusives. Not to say that Google won't ever bring it to other phones, especially now that they put their phone app up on the play store, but for now, not that I'm aware. I miss that plus hold for me. Seriously the most useful services I never knew I needed!

Tizen on the Gear S3 vs Android Wear 2.0 on the LG Watch Sport

So Android Wear 2.0 on the LG Watch Sport is a big improvement over Wear 1.5, it has a slick interface that appears to perform very well. The darker color scheme, new icons, dedicated play store on the watch, better fitness tracking and the ability to run apps from the watch (untethered) are just some of the improvements.
How do you think Tizen (on the S3) stacks up against Android Wear 2.0?
Are you planning to switch?
I just bought my Gear S3 Frontier BT a couple of weeks ago. Looking at the new LG Watch Sport, I think perhaps I should have waited a bit longer. (Buyers remorse?)
I like the overall design of LG's new sports watch. I like the fact that it has a larger, higher resolution display and the embedded sim with unlocked modem for use on any carrier. I also like the improvements to the Android Wear 2.0 user interface and the fact that there is a much larger app ecosystem. (Well at least as developers update their apps for Wear 2.0 compatiblity)
Finally, I like that all features of the watch will work across different brands of Android phones. (unlike Samsung where some features only work on Samsung phones.)
I will keep my S3 for a while longer to see whether Samsung releases some decent updates but if nothing much from Samsung, I may well jump ship in a couple of months when the LG Watch Sport is more widely available.
The S3 is clearly more capable than the current crop of AW watches. I bought my S3 before the new LG watches were announced. The LG Style is less capable than the S3, perhaps it will compete with the S2. I think the LG Sport will be a serious threat to the Frontier LTE.
The LG uses a physical SIM instead of an eSIM, allowing greater flexibility in carrier selection. There will be more 3rd party apps available. It will have better integration with Android phones for notifications like email and Hangouts. It appears to be less dependent on a companion phone, but we'll have to see how much functionally it actually has when untethered.
The S3 has some advantages over the LG. It looks better, like a regular analog watch, and has the ability to be customized with any standard watch band. The UI is better, a rotating bezel is superior to a rotating crown. Samsung Pay has MST, making it usable in vastly more POS terminals. Lastly, it's likely to have better battery life.
I don't plan on switching anytime soon, the S3 is handling my use case scenario just fine. But I want Android Wear watches to sell well because we consumers benefit from the competition. The Apple watch is the 800 pound gorilla. I hope the smartwatch segment is large enough to support Tizen, AW, and the upcoming FitBit smartwatches.

Style version has nothing, not even HRM. It is like a pebble and if the reviews are correct, Sport version's battery life barely even make it a day. At this point I happy with my frontier
When I heard about Android Pay on the watch will also NOT work if you have an unlocked bootloader, the Gear S3 wins by a mile in my book.
I am really on the fence between the Gear S3 Frontier and LG Sport. Had an original moto 360 in 2014 but didn't stick with it long (originally with a Note 2 then with a Note 4). Didn't like battery life at the time so ended up with a martian Notifier (in all very satisfied with that Notifier).
Ended up getting an iPhone 6S plus when it came out so after I broke the Notifier really only had Apple Watch as a real smartwatch option, though I did try a few garmins that were mainly good for exercise with phone notifications thrown in for good measure (but great battery life). Tried an Apple watch (1st gen) and felt it was nice but just not great nor worth the price (pre OS 3). Returned it. Now I have an Apple Watch Series 1 (42") that I got for a little over $200 and with the updated processor and OS 3.x it is a better experience. I guess I am one of the lucky ones with very good recognition from Siri, and I use it a lot.
But I don't intend to stay with an iPhone so really wanted a smartwatch that wasn't married to one smartphone platform. I love the look, feel, battery life (as smartwatches go) and display on the Gear S3 F, and that it at least (now) has token iOS support. But I'd be giving up a lot by being on iOS, and even if I switched back to an Android phone I'd only have S voice for voice recognition. I do not like S Voice. Still a week or so ago I was ready to pull the trigger on the S3. Then I saw the LG Sport.
After saying all that, besides the iOS thing (which can easily be changed) is there anything that I should consider in favor of the S3 frontier?
Mike
The S3 is a better engineered watch in every way. It's shortcoming is the Tizen app library. The only advantage that the LG Sport has is that it runs AW 2. If battery life is important to you, I doubt you'll be happy with the Sport, based on reports.
I bought my S3 in December. I was anxiously looking forward to the new LG. It would be easy for me to switch since I will be selling my AT&T model and buying a model from Verizon soon. But the S3 is the best watch on the market. There are several AW watches that will be released over the next few months, LG is first but hopefully not the best to come.
Yea I am really wanting the S3. I don't even mind the apps since I'm good with S health and notifications mostly. But that danged S voice.... at least on my Samsung phones I could use Google instead. But on the watch no can do.
Does anyone here use s voice on th s3?
Mike
I have S3F, AppleWatch S1&2, Huawei,Moto360.. And S3 is/was my favorite, but with Aw2.0 things start to change tho
S3 have few things i miss, SVoice is 200% crap and even if you can use SHealth to sync with Strava it´s not 100%.
I waited for LG, but the new SPort was not a "wow" watch for me. But good part was the Lg Urbane 2 LTE did come back around here so i could get one.
Urbane 2 Lte is my favorite watch in Size, weight and design from the day 1, but could never get one where i live befor they reroll them.
ANd even did pay few bucks more for my Urbane than i did for the S3, but gues with Aw2.0 the Urbane will be very solid.
That is what I expected about svoice. Ugh. I really use Siri and even Google voice recognition a lot and it's one of those little things that for me adds to the pro side of owning a smart watch (Google Now worked well for me on my 1st gen moto 360). Just last night as I was making dinner with my hands wet and iPhone in pocket I dictated a few reminders via my Apple Watch, and added something to my grocery list. I love that stuff.
Has anyone here tried the S3 with an iPhone? I'm thinking it's not great but was hoping it gets better.
Looks like the LG sport is winning for me, even though I like the S3F's styling better. Damn.
Samsung is good on hardware, god-awful on software. Personally I wish Samsung would consider making a wear 2.0 device with the bezel control taking the place of wear 2.0 twisty-wheel navigation.
I shall continue to watch for reviews of the Gwatch Sport as well as the new Huawai Watch 2 my fear is poor battery life - I easily get 3 days from the gear S3.
My problem with my S3 is the utter dearth of any decent apps, and the fact that some of the features in the watch don't work properly. The main features that don't work are:
- Samsung pay (not available outside the US), and the MST will never work in Europe as we did away with mag strip readers eons ago in favour of chip and pin.
- The remote connection to the phone does not work properly, if I turn off bluetooth, the watch connects to wifi, but the remote connection does not work despite being enabled
- S-Voice is hit/miss usually miss - its a poor excuse for a voice assistant compared to google now or google assistant.
- Cant see old text messages - eg cant see a 'conversation' - can only see notifications (Samsung scuppered the watch for non Samsung smartphone users here).
- Cant see emails on the watch (requires a Samsung Phone to do this)
On the plus side, the battery life is great, notifications clear, and it works great making/taking calls from the watch.
Samsung needs to incentivise developers to create for the Tizen platform with major offers of £££ if they wish it to succeed longer term.

This is NOT true. I have both the S3 and LG. The LG's android pay DOES work on my unlocked, rooted Pixel. Interestingly, AP on my phone (still) does not work. However, I have successfully used my LG to pay at a few places now.

I use SVoice on my S3 Classic, and find it better than expected...accurate recognition of words is very good - I rarely find it makes a mistake on what I'm saying. I do hold the watch near my face and speak clearly, but it works well.
Where SVoice falls down is doing things that Google Now/Google Assistant excels at, handling random questions and searches. But that's not really what it is intended for on the watch. (I don't use SVoice on my phone - S7 Edge - at all, so I have no idea how functional SVoice is on a phone compared to Google.)
But for normal watch commands, etc., I can find little fault w/SVoice. I'd like my S3 to have Google Assistant on it, but don't expect that to happen.

I'm having the same thing with my V20. Unlocked and custom ROM. Although, the ROM dev did make a special kernel to work with Root Switch to pass SafetyNet, and I did enable that before setting up AP on the watch. But since, I've had no issues.

Thanks much for the feedback.
I really really wanted to like, or even tolerate, svoice on the S3 but in the end, after testing it as realistically as possible in stores, I just couldn't do it. It's a shame as I really love the amazing display and look of the S3.
I ended up using two AT&T promos to get an LG V20 for half price and an LG Watch Sport for $50 (for buying a V20). Still getting used to the watch.... so far the battery life is worse than expected. I'll see how it goes. Google Assistant works surprisingly well, and it was easy to get it to work with my Hue lighting with even needing to do anything on my phone. I do like the watch feels like it could almost be used on its own. I really don't understand why Google didn't at least make a basic Gmail app for it.
Really liking the V20!

Should mention I'm on stock Android and stock kernel. I'd added my cards before I ever unlocked or rooted my pixel. Maybe that's why I'm able to use it now with the LG watch. I certainly can't add any cards using AP on the Pixel.
That said. I'm returning this dreadful LG watch. Google should be embarrassed to have this as their flagship AW2. So many reasons why it sucks, but the nail in the coffin is the battery life. Such an enormous watch, and Google engineers still couldn't manage to make their code efficient. Had to turn off everything including always on. Sorry, but a watch should always have always on. Period. Biggest reasons I'm sticking with S3---battery, always on, floor/stairs counting, and superior activity tracking in general. Plus, removable band, LTE that works without killing the battery (even more)...and now, WatchMaker is available.
WatchMaker on the S3 is the game changer for me. Now, I have my Tasker integration. So happy.

How did you get tasker integration! Let me know!!!!
Watchmaker allows me to add buttons and Tasker variables to a watch face. You need the WM app from the play store and also gear store.

iPhone Switchers

Curious how the iPhone switchers are enjoying their new Galaxy S8 or +? Has the switch been easy?
What are you using for texting?
Any issues switching with photos, music?
Thanks

I'll be coming from a iPhone 7 plus 128gb. My s8 plus should be here Tuesday I'm trying to figure out what's the best option for my SMS/mms transfer. I must say iMessage is damn sweet google needs to catch up on that aspect

I'm BACK! So, ive always been an android guy BUT the 7 Plus in what i call piano black was a beautiful piece. So, when my note 7 was recalled, and there wasnt another Android device that i was interested in (I had already had the S7 Edge) i said screw it and got the iphone. I was actually happier with it than i had anticipated but the whole time i had it i felt like something was missing. So, now im back and it feels good. That being said there are a few things that i am going to miss. I agree, iMessage is wonderful as far as features. I will miss that. I have a Mac Mini that is basically used as my media machine here on my desk and I think what i am going to miss most is how the whole ecosystem ties together. Being able to respond to texts and such without ever picking up my phone is probably what i will miss the most. I know its possible on android but its not as clean as it being built in.
I would say the thing i am happiest about having back though is wireless charging...... God i missed wireless charging!
Edited to add: So, there is one other thing that i am more happy to have back i think than wireless charging and its such a simple thing that i cant see why apple hasnt dont it. That little Close All button on the bottom of the recent apps screen!

Apple will probably add wireless charging in a few years and then claim they invented it!
I was an Android user and switched back and forth a lot. I've had the 7 plus for the longest compared to other phones. I still used Google services heavily on my iPhone, synced contacts through gmail with the native IOS mail app, used Google photos for pictures, and Google play music. So the switch was easy. iMessage is not a problem as texts go through just as fast, group messaging seems to be a concern but I heard Textra solves that issue. My only gripe is the front flash not working as great when taking a selfie, Also Snapchat isn't as good on Android due to the camera2 api not being integrated. That's about it, but overall I'm liking the phone. I have thought about going back to my iPhone but I feel it's just a matter of being so used to IOS and not using Android for a long time.
Coming from an iPhone 7 Plus on Verizon to the S8+. Overall very good switch over. Make sure to turn off iMessage BEFORE you switch. I manually turned it off with the software and then did the SMS unsubscribe. MMS is good. I am using Facebook messenger to handle texts as well and so far it's 10/10. Good luck
I'll share my opinions and experiences.
Coming from an iPhone 7 Plus.
Screen of the S8 Plus is immediately the first attractive thing you notice. Followed by the sleek design.
I find iOS easier to use than Android. Maybe that's because i've been using it for so long, maybe it's not. I had the last 2 prior iPhones and before that more Androids.
iOS is more 'fluid' and quicker. I found the S8 to lag and shutter in random spots, followed by some jitters and slow loading times. Kind of weird. Might be still learning my usage patterns (after 5 days?)
Camera on the S8 is great. No complaints there. Editing software could use some minor improvements. Like where's my 3x3 overlay when resizing? Ever heard of 'the rule of 3rds' Samsung?
Battery life seems the same. I work in an area with sketchy service that constantly pops in and out. I do like Samsung's powersaving mode.
Samsung gives you a back button that I often confuse with the back button within the browser, I constantly press it and end up going to the previous app instead of the previous webpage. My bad.
I can't use Samsung's keyboard to save my life, I don't know why. Maybe because I'm left handed, and keep pressing the comma button instead of space bar. Will take some getting used to.
I got used to the fingerprint scanner quite quickly and eventually adapted to like it. IRIS scanner is nice, but can't use it in sun light? Come on.
Always on screen is amazing.
Too many back up options within Android. Google, Samsung, which do I use??? Google is more universal.. But Samsung is the manufacture of the phone.. so there must be some perk, right?
So many features of Android and Samsung. Maybe too many? I watched many youtube videos describing them. Still learning a lot. I will eventually learn to love them, despite using 1/4 of them. Do I really need to watch a youtube video while texting my SO? Maybe. Or porn.
I miss my swipe to go to the previous screen, along with 3D touch.
Bixby.. Don't get me started. So much potential, nothing but fail. Updated OS, button barely even works. Bixby takes so long to open if not used for awhile. And the cards they've chosen are 99% useless.. Room for a lot of improvement there. Voice should help a bit.
Did I mention the screen?
I miss stereo speakers, but in reality what did I need them for? To be that annoying kid on the back of the bus blasting music?
Holy **** Bluetooth 5.0 is amazing. I can stream Spotify strictly to my speaker and have all other sounds on my phone. Not to mention the 130ft range.
iMessage. Nothing comes close to it, sorry folks. Can't even send a GIF I made via MMS to a friend.. Because it's over the 1MB limit my service provider has generously set for me.
Did I mention making GIF's from videos? Amazingly cool but probably-won't-use feature.
A lot more flexibility with apps in Android. I can finally make my home automation dream come true. Robot greet me at the door? Yup.
I think that's it for now, I've had enough to drink. S8 Plus wins my vote, for now. If someone could take S8 hardware combined with iOS, I'd be heaven. But it's a nice dream.
P.S.
Here's a picture I took at the NYC Auto Show. Enjoy

Very similar experience. Was Android til note 7 then fed up as nothing else good enough and got the iPhone 7 plus. Much better experience than i imagined. Just so intuitive. BUT I just prefer Android. S8 is clossst device to the Note 8, but i actually think the note 7 was a better device. I can't wait for the note 8. Actually want to also give a shout iut to the Mate 9 which i really enjoyed (especially the camera).
Compared to iPhone i will miss the stereo speakers, and the simple way the device connected to my networked receiver (but the pull up menus are too simple). Also the email app on Apple is just better IMHO. Speakerphone better on Apple as is voice clarity on calls, generally. Finally I can't stand the fingerprint sensor on the s8. Totally got or miss. I find the effort of trying to get the device to switch on really frustrating.
I had the iphone 7 plus after Note 7 recall. It was my first iOS experience after iphone 5 that I hated. I am an Android fan since HTC Dream but today iOS is faster than Android. I like iOS 10.3 that do not reload apps after a while, compared to S8 plus. In the future if Apple will release an iphone 8 with S8 design, for sure I'll take it. First time launch is faster on Android than iOS, except games where A10 shows its muscles. But the fact that apps do not reload on iOS, even Youtube, changes everything. S8 reloads a lot of apps for battery life, I am sure of that.

Small backstory: Long time Android user since HTC Desire and HD. I switched to iPhone 7 plus as an experiment mainly because of note 7 fiasco (had it ordered and all) and because it was good opportunity to try it out on a 6month contract.
Anyway, switching back to an android was seamless and easy for me.
Music? - i use Spotify only, so there isnt much to be said.
Photos? - i use google photos since very early days of picasa. Used it on iphone too (even tho syncing photos was hassle), so - easy switch, didnt have to do anything
Contacts? - used google contacts on iphone....
Texting? - i just use facebook messenger or whatsapp. Everyone ahs facebook messenger on my friend circle and WhatsApp too.
Do i miss iphone? Not rly. I miss few tiny software related stuff, like swipe for back, tap clock to quick scroll to top. But those are very minor things for me.
Most refreshing things to have again on android?
1. Notifactions! Fck IOS way of doing them.
2. Fast camera focus on my s8+... My iphone had terrible autofocus!
3. ''Real'' bokeh effect! Hate that fake iPhone 7+ bokeh (''portrait mode'') that creates weird distortions around the edges of the object.
Things I miss
iMessage - I love how they implemented this and wish there was a 'real' Android replacement Allo/Duo, or Hangouts isn't it.
Force Touch - I keep trying to do this on my S8+ on certain actions when navigating or doing certain things within certain apps.
Other than that... I can't think of a thing.

Verizon is my carrier. iMessage is hard to beat. PERIOD! I've looked at a lot of android options they aren't remotely close. For instance I can record a 1080 video for about 10 minutes and send to another iMessage recipient with no compression it's identical to WhatsApp but better.

iPhone 7 Plus here things I miss well only a few: like other iMessage, handoff, Find My Friends, Facetime (don't use that much), Siri or any kind of hands free assistant. Anyone get Google Now to work with the screen off? Things I like of course the screen its just awesome, wireless charging, moving icons around freely, AOD is cool. Each OS has trade offs but I'm going to use the S8+ and my iPhone off and one. Its possible the iPhone 8 will have wireless charging and AMOLED screen that would be tits for me. Just exploring the other side, its not my first time.

Actually, I was just joking, but since I appear to have hit a nerve:

And before you say it, I have no doubt that Android stole features from Apple.
Let's end this though, I shouldn't have posted a joke, sorry if I offended you.

Verizon is my carrier. iMessage is hard to beat. PERIOD! I've looked at a lot of android options they aren't remotely close. For instance I can record a 1080 video for about 10 minutes and send to another iMessage recipient with no compression it's identical to WhatsApp but better.

I call it "real" because samsung doesn't use a photo from 2 lenses and then put them together with software like apple does. Apple variant created some very noticeable artifacts around the object.
I have added a quick (its taken in a bit low light room) photo of Samsungs bokeh, i personally think it is miles better than iPhone and it doesn't even require any special mode, its just works in auto mode.
Auto mode, no edits (tho google photos my have compressed it a bit?):

Pixel 3/3XL Owners: Overall thoughts? What will be your next phone and why?

Hey all Pixel 3/3XL owners (and even those who don't own these devices but have kept up with the Pixel lineup of devices),
I'm just looking to gather some thoughts on what you guys thought about the Pixel 3/3XL phones overall and how they stacked up against your previous phones. I'm also looking to see what you guys think of the seemingly controversial Pixel 4 lineup of devices and lastly, what you now think of the Pixel phone brand in general.
Also, what do you think will be your next phone?
And just for clarification, I'm looking for opinions because I'll soon be in the market for a new phone, and to be honest, I've been a little disappointed with the Pixel lineup as of late because I feel that they've been taking the classic "Apple" approach. Of course, this is just my opinion, but I just feel like there have been fewer meaningful (to me) improvements with each recent Pixel iteration.
With that said, I'm currently thinking about moving to the Note 20 when it releases but usually have a very hard time making up my mind, lol. Hence this post!
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
5a. Battery and camera I'm not a power user so... I'll have to sell my pixel stand I guess.
Pixel 3 XL was my last Google phone. Started with the Galaxy Nexus and have had every one up to the 3 XL.
Moved to the Note 10+ back in October which I hate. Just went to the OnePlus 8 Pro two weeks ago and I love it. In my opinion (which doesn't mean much) OnePlus phones are the spiritual successor to the Nexus line.

I'm thinking OnePlus as well, but the prices in Canada are insane. Thinking I might look for a used one since they sell pretty low.

Yep. This is the first phone I've rooted since the Nexus 6.

I need dual speakers. That's my must have....and root obviously. I know there are some gaming phones on the market with stereo speakers, but not on Verizon. Also some other phones are starting to use the earpiece and bottom speaker for stereo but the Pixel 2xl and 3xl and the Moto X Pure I had prior, all had front facing speakers. I briefly had the s8+, and although I could root it and it was a beautiful phone the speaker drove me nuts. Anyway, I'm gonna wait for what the 5 has to offer and decide where to go from there. I'll pull the trigger on something new at that time though, or shortly after.

Why'd you hate it (if you don't mind me asking) ?
My one annoyance with the Note lineup is that I'd have to get the unlocked, Exynos version for root...and I feel that the Exynos chips are a large value hit considering their generally crummy performance relative to their Qualcomm counterparts. Now I'm no mobile gamer, and so that doesn't bother me too much. But the previous Samsung phones have had poorer battery life with the Exynos chips, which is the biggest caveat for me.

Bloat (fixable using adb and/or PDP.) I'm used to mostly stock Google apps. Hiding them rather than freezing doesn't make sense to me since they are still taking up resources.
When using Google Pay on any other phone I've had I can unlock it with the pin or fingerprint and then just tap and pay. With the Note 10 I had to unlock, tap, unlock again. Faster to just use my card, which is what I ended up doing.
I prefer a mostly stock Android version. Also prefer fast updates.
No root (unlocked US version) so the minor annoyances were unfixable.
Overall the Note 10+ is a fantastic phone. Nice and fast. Just for me the small things add up. I also briefly used the Note 3 and didn't really like it that much either.

i sold my pixel 3xl months ago. got myself oneplus 8 pro and s20+. at the end i put my oneplus 8 pro at the side. i enjoy s20+ more. its not bloated like what most people claim.
I have the 3XL and this will be my last Google device. Since they went to bed with Big Red everything has changed. Bugs, poor battery life, and just poor quality of late has turned me off. Tie that to less than even lack luster support and I'm done.
Pixel 3 XL, Yep, Crashed It.....
..... Again.
Probably the Pixel 3 XL will be my last Google Phone. I use Nexus/Pixel since the Nexus 4, but Pixel 4 is a total disgrace. An ugly, old fashioned and expensive phone. The camera did not fascinate me like in Pixel 3 XL. Average/poor battery life. Now to complete the mess, the master mind behind the pixel's cameras, Marc Levoy quits from Google before the Pixel 4a launch. The media said that Pixel 5 will not going to be a flagship, a huge step back. I like the Google phones because it shows how the Android supposed to be, but i can't accept use a mid range phone in 2020/2021. Maybe I will change to Oneplus, but, I hate that stupid curved display. Probably will buy the Iphone 12 Pro. Iphone 11 é very nice deal. Huge battery life, awesome specs, a very nice camera AND CHEAPER then pixel 4 at their launch. It's still a very good deal until today. It's time to give Apple a chance since my last Iphone 4. For me to stay in Google Phones, Pixel 5 must be a thing that I never seen before in a smartphone.
I wish luck to all who will stay with the Pixel line. Google did a pretty big mess with it.
Because of the safetynet issue with root & xposed + the crappy wearos watches I'll probably switch to iPhone, the dark side with jailbreak it's the best imho
I'm most likely going to get a red magic 5g gaming phone, I like my pixel 3 xl but it's time for a change because of the lack of rom support and the a/b ****
My next phone will have an unlockable bootloader and will have Open Network function on Verizon. I will not use android without adblocking, or with gapps.

I wanted the pixel 4, but the lack of fingerprint sensor was a little bummer for me, plus google photos "Limited" quality... the Pixel 5 might be for me but seems there will be only pixel 4a which sucks, has a "middle range" snapdragon, not sure how it's comparable with pixel 3xl tho. I really like stock Android but let's see...
Never buying a Google phone again, camera is the best no doubt but battery and gaming performance sucks, heating issues and visible throttling due to heating. Probably gonna buy OnePlus 8
The Pixel 3XL will, more than likely, be my last Google phone. I finally pulled my wife away from Apple's ecosystem and convinced her to give Android a try. So, we both got Pixel 3XLs when it came out nearly two years ago. Since then, I have been less than impressed with this phone. Personally, I've been with the Nexus/Pixel line since the Nexus 4. The 3XL has been a big disappointment to me, and my wife ,who reluctantly gave Android a shot.
Here has been our mutual experience.
Terrible battery life.
Roll-of-the-dice security patches. (Will my battery life get better or worse with this one?)
Terrible RAM management. (News and music playing in the background? "Pick one or the other", says the Pixel.
Great Camera, no doubt.
Google: "You like that app? Well, we're shutting it down"
This truly felt like a beta phone for a flagship price. I wish I would have put my money elsewhere, because as a stock Android lover, this was disappointing.
My wife will more than likely want to jump over to iPhone again, and you know what, I don't blame her. For me at least, it seemed like Google just rushed a phone out for the sake of being competitive.
Yeah, I've had some positive experiences to say about it. The camera was and is absolutely fantastic. The fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate 99% of the time, and the speakers are loud enough for me. As for a daily driver? I would have looked elsewhere If I had known.
I have been a hardcore Google phone user since the Galaxy Nexus, but after the 3 XL I think I am going to jump ship. Google phones have awesome software, but the hardware is years behind the competition. I plan to keep using my 3 XL until the OnePlus 9T Pro is released next fall, then it's sayonara Google devices! OnePlus phones catch my eye because they have excellent hardware and are easily hackable, exactly what I'm looking for in a phone.
I will probably get the 5 XL. It follows my new phone every 2 years pattern.

Question Considering switching

Currently have an S21 ultra and am considering trading it in for a Pixel 7 pro. Would this be considered an upgrade?
That depends entirely on your usecase. Samsung offers a multitude of software gimmicks (we Pixel people call it bloatware) and a stellar display plus a relatively good battery life (by shutting down everything in the background*).
Pixels on the other hand offer an extraordinary camera, a smooth software experience, quick updates and new features every couple of months.
Purely in terms of hardware and competition, the P7 Pro is designed to beat the S22 Ultra and will compete with the upcoming S23 Ultra, as such, yes - the P7 Pro can be considered an upgrade to your 1 3/4 year old S21 Ultra. But it's a bit like comparing a Porsche to a BMW - both are good, but both are also vitally different. Both offer a different set of features and are designed for a certain level of expectation. It's a question of taste, at the end of the day.
Agreed with @Morgrain. I went back to Samsung (Note 10+ 512 GB) after my Pixel 1 stopped receiving updates because I needed a phone with 512 GB of storage minimum, so it wasn't until the Pixel 6 Pro was offered with 512 GB that I could come back. Personally, I couldn't stand Samsung for a variety of reasons I detailed many times in several Pixel 6 Pro threads

My wife and I had the Note 10+, not the S21 Ultra, so I can't speak to that.
For the Note 10+, complaints were:
Slow ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint reader. Some folks have the same complaint about the P6P's optical in-screen, but it's worked very, very well for me.
Samsung's duplication of multiple services that Google supplies. You have to know what you're looking for and jump through all the proper hoops/settings to set defaults back to Google's solutions since that's what I prefer.
Related to Samsung's duplication of services/apps, their phone app duplicated a bunch of my contacts (and even tripled some) in a way that Google doesn't recognize them as duplicates, so I'd have to go through manually, compare, and delete or consolidate contacts.
How customization of the active Quick Setting tiles was set was really frustrating, up through and including Android 11 on the Note 10+. When it gave a list of the QS Tiles I had to choose from (to add to those that normally show), it presented them in a single horizontal scrolling row across the top of the screen only and in no order that made sense to this human, instead of Google's method of displaying all the tiles available in all of the screen real estate that's available, so even if the order the "inactive" ones doesn't make sense, at least I can see 14 of them all at once and only have a little over two pages of them instead of 8 pages of single-row QS tiles to choose what to activate. This is particularly frustrating when using third-party apps to enable better performing QS tiles for WiFi or Mobile Data toggling or other purposes, so I would have more than one nearly identical-looking toggle that would get confusing to choose from, and from what I remember, the custom third-party app-created QS tiles weren't necessarily together or at the very end of the scrolling list.
Despite disabling all background snoozing for particular apps like GMail, Hangouts/Chat, etc, I couldn't get timely notifications of emails and chat. This was particularly troublesome for work, which also uses Google for everything. I opt not to have a work-supplied phone as it would be iOS. As an aside, my coworkers who do have iPhones from work also have trouble with some chat notifications not being obvious or immediate or some such, so that wouldn't necessarily be a solution anyway.
Before the Note 10+ (on the Pixel 1 I used before it), my emails and chat notifications came through immediately. I sometimes got email notifications for work several hours after. I do enough multi-tasking and when I'm very busy I just don't get a chance to flip back to my Chrome GMail window on the computer so I rely on the phone notifications.
Sometimes I would get a phone notification of an email (both personal and work) in the GMail app hours after I had already seen the email in Chrome on the PC and had deleted it or in some cases at least definitely had read it and didn't do anything further with it.
My brother has a Galaxy S9+. This has been his and his big extended family's first smartphones of any kind. When I complained to him about the late or useless Note 10+ GMail and chat notifications, he told me he experiences the exact same thing and he assumed that was just the way Android is.
Factory resets and all disabling of background snoozing of affected apps didn't help at all.
Samsung gimped Do Not Disturb. When DnD came out with (I think it was 5.0 Lollipop), I hated it and gave up on it quickly. I don't remember at what point I started actually using it on the Pixel 1, but they definitely improved it tons. I don't recall exactly what Samsung's implementation was missing but it was very noticeable having come from the Pixel 1 and no longer being able to do some things. I think what Samsung was missing was the ultra-fine granularity of configuration I could do for each and every scheduled and common/unscheduled DnD profile as to what exceptions were allowed to get past DnD. They had some of it implemented but missing enough that it stuck out at the time.
Now that I have the P6P, I can say that the Note 10+'s night mode camera shots were really bad. I think they were worse than even the Pixel 1s'. The P6P does wonders with what little light is available, by comparison.
There may have been more but I can't recall at this time.
I did like the built-in stylus. My wife used hers tons more than I did, but it would be handy for Google Photos' magic eraser and for other things. Samsung owns patents that would keep anyone else's stylus from being quite as useful or convenient, however. If I remember correctly, between Apple and Samsung's stylus patents, everyone else's stylus just can't compare.

The only thing I miss on my 21 Ultra is the 100x zoom, it took some great shots of the moon. I have a 6 Pro but ordered the 7 Pro so I'm excited to see the improvements.
I guess the biggest question I have is what features (besides the 100x zoom) would I lose from the S21 ultra and what from the P7P would I be missing out sticking with the S21U?

The most obvious thing in the direction of what you would be missing from the P7P is Pixel-exclusive features (which normally trickle down to Samsung and others within a few years, but not always).
I love the Google Phone app's native customizable call screening feature for different types of incoming calls (likely spam, not in contacts, first time caller...). Also it's Hold For Me feature is great to avoid dumb, loud, annoying, repetitive hold "muzak". As far as I know, those features haven't made their way to non-Pixels yet, although they wouldn't be specific to the Pixel 7/Pro either.
I also love @siavash79's [MOD][Xposed+Magisk][Pre-Release] AOSP Mods - System modifications for AOSP-based Android 12+ on my rooted Pixel 6 Pro and look forward to finding out if it will need any adjustments to work on the P7P.

Regarding conversation of switching from Samsung to Google:
I personally think although good hardware is very important, we have to note that nowadays most of the phones have good quality hardware on them. (I do agree that Samsung offers the highest quality hardware).
Now, to me (and might be only me), the most important thing to choose a phone is not hardware, but is the "Software" it offers. The ROM should be safe, secure, rich in features, AND supported constantly be OEM.
When it comes to software, I think Samsung is one of the worst with regards to support: It's not open source, updates are very (very) much delayed, and it's too much far away from "original" android experience.
On the contrary (and even though I've personally suffered a lot from Google hardware in the past), Google phones offer everything Samsung doesn't: It's open source, "original" android experience, first to get updates (every single month on 5th), and first to get new Android (at least 6 months before others due to developer and beta releases)
So It's up to you to choose based on your priorities: Best hardware is offered by Samsung, best software is in Pixel
With regards to AOSPMods operating on P7: Since the source code of the ROM is the same as the released A13 source, I don't see why it shouldn't work well from day one: Unless proven otherwise

With regards to both sides, they have their own issues. It's been proven that Samsung phones have a battery bloating issue after a few years of use, and this could be seen as a huge risk considering the batteries in question are lithium-ion, but as long as you don't plan to use it for more than 1-2 years, there should be no issue. The issue with the Pixel series of phones could be considered just as serious depending on your circumstances. I'm not sure if this issue carries onto the Pixel 7, but the Pixel 6a has appauling battery life because of Google's chip, which drains the battery even when on standby, and there's been reports of it dying in your pocket as well.
Just pulled the trigger. I figured worst case scenario I have 14 days to return the P7P if I don't like it.

Well, all Android phones have a backup system built in that runs automatically in the background. Is there a 3rd party option that might be better? You will have to do a little research and see what's available. But for the average person what comes with Android is adequate. YMMV

Excuse me to disagree with you, There no YMMV in this kind of matter, When you bought a new phone they have to provide a way to transfer all your data as it is for the new one and forcing manufactures to be integrated. For me as natural user have to be feeling safe about my data and not lose it anytime or if the manufacture decide to blackmail user by storage spaces for Example (S22,S22+)
Me as photographer i have a lot of pictures captured by camera with copies after editing and +70GB Whatsapp conversations and there is no way to backup this photos and conversation by authentic way ( tell me about Whatsapp local backup and restore or 99% stuck of cloud).

The Pixel phones used to have free unlimited storage for photos, but it seems to have been ditched with the release of the Pixel 6 series. You're better off buying a usb stick and putting all the data you can on it, or connecting your phone to your computer and backing up your data that way.

Yeah, I have the s22 Ultra and also like taking the moon shots. What's interesting is that, in anticipation of the 7 pro, I tried dialing back the s22 ultra zoom to 30x. I think the pix at 30x were better than those at higher zoom, so I'm hopeful the 7 pro zoom will still be pretty good.

I do have multiple paths.
And I have a short makefile that synchronizes my Android(s) with the desktop using my AdbSync.exe (in the sig).
Of course you coud use batch (or shell) files and plain old ADB.
I currently have Samsung S22 Ultra. I was a devoted Note fan until the Note 7 and fire-starting issue. I have owned every pixel model since the beginning. Got rid of the 6 because of the bugs. My initial units of the 5 and 6 pro had hardware issues and needed to be exchanged, so I did not take Google's trade in offer on my ultra.
I love the ultra because of the spen (I have big fat fingers), but prefer the pixel os and it's exclusive features over One UI. Not a fan of the Sammy's photo processing either. My 7 Pro comes today and I will use it for a while to decide which one to keep.
Thank God for Swappa or I would be broke from buying the latest greatest smart phones!

Is there any phones allows me to record a phone call without rooting, or with relatively less effort?(China brand/version excluded)

I’ve tried Samsung s20 and Google pixel 5, it seems most phones sold in the US banned call recording in system level.
It seems most phones sold in China are likely to support calling records, but that brings more risk than benefits.
Most Indian phones also supporta call recording, but it’s hard to get your hands on them.
Any suggestions about how I can have a phone with call recording function?
Any help would be appreciated.
