Question Galaxy Themes Issue - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Am unable apply themes properly to all the native applications from Themes store. When i apply any theme, it themes only few icons n change homescreen wallpaper but doesn't theme phone app, contacts app, quick settings tiles, messages, settings menu etc.. I have tried every possible way to troubleshoot this without any success. Done cache clearance, signed out from Samsung account and signed in again, switched off n restarted, reset app preference, applied default theme then again applied downloaded theme etc... Tried both with Stock home launcher and Nova launcher.. Any solution for this..?

Try clearing system cache. Try safe mode.
If that fails, Factory reset. After reset load/update nothing.
Try one of the native high contrast themes if present to test it. Then allow Samsung system apps to update, try again.
If it continues misbehave after reload the firmware may be corrupted or a possible mobo failure, have it reflash or return it.
This is not normal. Usually it's caused by a 3rd party app. Malware is also to be considered.
Do Not use SmartSwitch to restore anything as it can cause all kinds of wonderful issues.

Tried cache clearing and factory reset also..
But i do indeed used smart switch for restoring my messages (pc application)..
will that really could have caused the problem..?
p.s: i have applied native high contrast theme from settings and it did changed the colors of contacts and keyboard..

Oh yeah it can... SmartSwitch can work perfectly or fail you miserably with all data lost. Unpredictable... beware.
NEVER rely on SmartSwitch to backup critical data. When going between different models is when it's most likely to fail.
The high contrast themes are actually some of the best. Pick theme>pick icon pack>load your custom wallpaper, modify with the Goodlock family of apps.
I keep a screen shot of my favorite icon pack page to help with a reload if needed.
SmartSwitch can normally be used to backup homepage settings on the same model but another reload will be needed if something goofs up. A good load can last for years if not upgraded, it's worth doing it right the first time.
My stock N10+/Pie setup, this load will be 2yo in June:

If it works in safe mode a third party app is most likely the cause. Uninstalling may fix it unless it's poorly written and permanently alters hidden user settings during uninstall.
See if you can find it. Trashware apps like FB, WhatsApp, social apps etc should never be loaded as they are malware by design and purpose.
If worse comes to worst, factory reset and be careful what you install. Do not use SmartSwitch this time.

Thanks for all the suggestions but a simple thing solved my problem..
Themes are not working properly when Dark mode is selected in Display settings. As soon as i changed back to Bright mode everything worked flawlessly..

You're welcome. Good the hear you tracked it down... Yay! That was sort of tough.
It would of drove me nuts as I hate the way Samsung's look and act out of the box.
I only run in dark mode, lol it's Kitkat love
That's a glitch with the firmware. Never saw anything like that on my N10+'s running on 9 and 10.

That's really a shame on Samsung's engineer's part. Almost everybody uses dark mode as soon as they unbox a phone. How can they miss this glitch while finalizing their software..!
If, to use a theme, i go into bright mode other apps are white which r not themed by that applied theme...
Ridiculous...

I tried setting Dark mode back, after applying theme from the Store. It straight away removed the applied theme and reverted back to not so colourfull Dark mode..

Use the app theme park from galaxy store and see how you get along with that

Ok, what happens with dark mode on when you connect a call on the phone with the high contrast theme? Maybe you're expecting too much? Show some screenshots.
For the most part my N10+ looks like it's running on Kitkat when dark mode is enabled.
Themes change the keyboard, text messages and phone/contacts colors and layout. Since I always set my own wallpaper I never pay any attention to that in themes.
I'd test it but I have to do quit a bit to do so.
This what it look like in Pie...
Many of the themes may be incompatible with 12 unless they were updated. That may be the actual issue.

This was my last resort.. I used theme park for more control on colors of the UI but sadly this won't allow us to change the colors of Dialer app, settings app and contacts app.. May be a future update may give us the ability to theme the whole thing..

What i am trying to say is when v use the bright mode, the applied theme will theme all the native apps but when v use the dark mode and then apply the theme, only wallpaper and the icons will be themed (all other native app colors will not be changed as it happens in bright mode.)

I think this may be normal behavior.
The keyboard, phone screens and text screens should change in response to the theme.

[App] Inverted (white text/black background) Htc Messaging Application - Mms.apk

Okay guys, at the suggestion/request of Konikub, who was told this couldn't be done, I, "Team LoneWolf" , decided to crack open the stock HTC Messaging application (Mms.apk), in order to investigate the possibility of inverting / applying a "dark theme" to the application.
It seems this has not been done before, and upon initial investigation, I can see why. Many of the HTC Sense applications share common resources (themes, styles, icons, etc), stored in com.htc.resources.apk. So, if you attempt to modify something used by Mms.apk, but stored in com.htc.resources.apk, you are going to unwittingly modify the appearance of other applications, and if other corresponding elements are not adjusted in those applications as well, you are going to have problems.
So, things that are "challenging" are the things I like to try and tackle, and inverting this application was a tough cookie, requiring extensive edits, in some cases to "undo" references to items stored / defined in com.htc.resources.apk, and rather, make them stand alone directly within Mms.apk. This required major edits to XML, Styles, Colors, local .pngs, and Smali/Java code. You wouldn't think simply themeing an app would require all of this, but Mms.apk did.
Essentially, what this mod has done, for the most part, is flip most text that was black, and made it white, and most backgrounds that were white, and made them black (inverted), giving you a bit more visual interest, as opposed to the stock "white" look.
For those running a dark theme on their phone, who prefer to use the stock messaging app (I use Handcent, lol), this should fit the bill nicely. Again, thanks to Koni-man for the "nudge" / "coaxing" to take a look at this.

Flash the attached (HtcMms.zip) via recovery. Also, let me know if I missed anything. It is certainly possible, as there are so many menu options / tasks that can be done, that I may have overlooked.
EDIT: MetaMorphs attachments added (morph_*.zip), to modify the default 'tap to compose' area from gray (shown in screen caps above), to black (screen capture), and another to return the application icon in the app drawer to stock color. DO NOT ATTEMPT to flash these. They must be applied using MetaMorph, AFTER you FIRST flash from recovery the original mod (HtcMms.zip). After applying using MetaMorph, you will need to, at a minimum, issue a Hot Restart, for the application to re-appear in the app drawer. It will disappear after applying the MetaMorph, and re-appear after a restart.

Very sweet I am downloading now
Might you be able to customie other apps like this? Like making the stock HTC music app and People app all black. That would make Sense even more epic.

Just flashed I like but needs a few details.
1. It changes the message icon at the top notification bar default.
2. Make the "Tap to Compose" section black with white like the rest.
3. Make the main message icon default color not blacked out.
Other than that very good work!!

Wow, JS. Nice. I want to use this, but question. Does this include any of the mods that were put into it from Calkulin. More specifically, the compression fix and 5MB limit fix. It's fine if it doesn't. They're just good to have.

I modded this from a stock Mms.apk. I'm not familiar with the details of the mods Calkulin did, but I assumed they were to the framework, as opposed directly to the .apk. I'll have to look, as, honestly, until now, I've never really used the HTC Messaging app.
BTW, I'll probably knock out a few MetaMorphs shortly, with some "other" preferences, such as the mentioned black "tap to compose" area. I did it that way initially, but didn't like it. It looked like too much black to me and made it hard to differentiate the compose versus non-compose areas. I'll probably also do a MM to restore the stock application icon. I wanted to darken it to denote it is a changed / darkened version of the app.
Thanks been wanting this for a while. I knew you was going to give us something cool you was too quiet.
You are the man.

Okay, FYI, I've attached 2 MetaMorphs to the end of the OP based on preference.
The first MetaMorph will change the "tap to compose" area from the modded gray in the OP, to black for those who prefer it, as shown below:
The second MetaMorph simply returns the application icon in the app drawer to stock white.
Note, after applying using MetaMorph, you will need to, at a minimum, issue a Hot Restart, for the application to re-appear in the app drawer. It will disappear after applying the MetaMorph, and re-appear after a restart.

After just getting around to installing your rotary unlock mod, I am loving this!
Only problem is I can't install it. I go into the recovery menu, choose install from zip and then confirm, I get an error.
Installing update...
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5.
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and updater-binary) to create working update .zip packages.
Any ideas why I get this error? I haven't changed anything since I installed the rotary lockscreen. Maybe switching to Amon recovery?

Just flashed it on my mmb29p without a problem. This zip makes a restore zip in a folder called ozop. Flash it to restore. These notifications don't work well with gmail. I use blue mail so it doesn't matter to me.
As a precaution, copy your current systemui and framework-res off to the side so you can get a full restore.

Caused some trouble for me on MMB29Q. I flashed the zip, the notifications theme did indeed change, however it produced some strange results with my pull-down settings, including altering the lock screen (this may be intentional?). Shortly afterward, I flashed the "return to stock". Phone now boots properly, but crashes a few seconds after putting in my PIN. No problem, I will just restore from last week's backup after work tonight. Too bad it failed I am a fan of your work. But no harm, no foul.
One other thing: is there a version of this mod without the center clock? I would be willing to try again if this were fixed. I will also post screenshots which may be beneficial.

Update: Recovered via TWRP easily. Screenshots attached of the mayhem that ensued. I don't pretend to know anything about theming, but it seems to me that most options are being mislabeled and this is potentially why the ui crashed. Perhaps because I used system ui tuner to move icons around? I am running stock ROM with ElementalX kernel, so the fault is more than likely on my end.
Update 2: As far as theming, the "StockblackNoteBlackToggleBG" zip is perfect except for the flipped navbar. If you could just switch it back to normal, it would be wonderful (also, dialog windows are rendering strangely - black text on black background). Thank you in advance. You're the best!

Try this one. The dark text on dark background will continue on gmail. It is an in-app issue. I already had this uploaded so I'll give you a zip to switch the nav bar back to normal. I had to pick a color to take the place of the dark text so you wouldn't have blue on blue. I can change it if you like.
The background is transparent so whatever is open behind this will show.

List of available themes ready for Samsung thanks to @pimpmaneaton: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/collection-substratum-themes-compatible-t3635673
ATTENTION: You can still run Substratum Legacy (shows in the toolbar) without the addon, but it may not work with Samsung devices, so you must get the addon app!
How to apply Substratum themes
First, you will need to install the apps listed above
Download a theme that doesn't rely on Android System or theme ready Google Apps...so find themes like Swift Black or Swift Dark on Play Store.
Once you install the theme, Substratum will throw a notification saying that a new theme has been installed
Open the theme in Substratum and click on the app (one at a time for now only) and click the button on the bottom right.
Click Install and let it compile. It will ask to install an APK to your device. Install it.
You can switch to that application and see if it is themed. If it isn't, manually force close the app in Settings or reboot your device.
(ATTENTION) It is HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended NOT to apply Android System and SystemUI elements as of yet UNLESS your theme supports it and shows "dangerous overlays" by default. For themers, all you have to do is set @bool/ThemeSupportSamsung to true.
Current Bugs
- none
How to recover?
You will have to boot up in Safe Mode (comes default on every device)
Reboot your device
Hold down the Volume Down key while booting up
You are now in Safe Mode
Go into Settings -> Apps, then find the overlay you think is messing up and uninstall!
How to recover if the above doesn't work? (Credits to Evozi)
You will have to boot up in Safe Mode (comes default on every device)
Turn on screen and press power button. It will show "Shutdown", "Restart", "Emergency Mode"
Turn on "Emergency Mode", keep spam the checkbox so you can tick the checkbox to proceed the agreement. (phone is super lagging)
While you are in emergency mode, you have very limited access. Open any system app and go to recent task list.
Long press the app task, press the info icon and app detail page will appear.
Hit the back button and it will show your whole app list.
Find your overlay and remove all its storage and phone permissions.
Deactivate Emergency Mode and now you are back to TouchWiz.
Uninstall the overlay app.
Instructional video, thanks @DaKoin!
Beware this is beta testing. So please be patient and read the instructions properly.
Glad to see this.... Thanks for the hard work.
Any free themes that somewat give the same experience like swift black or drk

Requirements:
Be a member of our Telegram group: https://t.me/SeXstratum (This group is HIGHLY moderated, please heed the rules and moderators!)
Have a Samsung device running Nougat (Android 7.0+)
Root is NOT required
How to apply Substratum themes
First, you will need to install the APK from the pinned section of the group (under the group name)
Download a theme that doesn't rely on Android System or theme ready Google Apps, so like Swift Black or Swift Dark on Play Store.
Once you install the theme, Substratum will throw a notification saying that a new theme has been installed
Open the theme in Substratum and click on the app (one at a time for now only) and click the button on the bottom right.
Click Install and let it compile. It will ask to install an APK to your device. Install it.
Reboot or force close the app in Settings to apply the theme to that app.
(ATTENTION) It is highly recommended NOT to apply Android System and SystemUI elements as of yet.
Current Bugs
- Detection method of installing apps is not done yet, so you can't uninstall from the theme, only by using the Overlay List (open the drawer and click Overlay List)
How to recover?
You will have to boot up in Safe Mode (comes default on every device)
Reboot your device
Hold down the Volume Down key while booting up
You are now in Safe Mode
Go into Settings -> Apps, then find the overlay you think is messing up and uninstall!
Click to collapse
Found another way to recover if you install status bar stuff. Remove your sim tray
Just want to say thanks for the work....definitely make me not miss root now
First, thank you for this. Second, I'm slightly skeptical on how well this works but can't wait to be proven wrong.
Third, I tried to boot into safe mode to see if I could before I screw anything up, and when I hold volume down when booting, it hangs on my carrier's splash screen for like 5 minutes and never boots to safe mode. I'm on US Cellular (don't laugh...). I was just wondering if anyone else had this little issue with booting into safe mode?
EDIT: I have an S8+ and just realized you have to tap and hold the Power Off button (on screen) to get into Safe Mode - note that it seems to take forever to boot, just be patient with it.

Our full operation runs through Telegram but soon it will be on Play Store too.
The reasoning behind this is because we have build bots to automatically compile an updated APK and send it to the chat when I push a commit, also a nice way to directly contact the devs (me).

That's understandable. Apologies if my comment came off as rude.
It probably goes without saying ... but proceed with caution with this and backup ahead of time. I threw caution to the wind and installed a system overlay that my S7 didn't like apparently and left me with a completely black/blank screen. Booting into safe mode just gave me the words "Safe mode" at the bottom but still a black screen. No ability to remove the bad stuff. No option left other than to wipe & restore.
Works great though! Installed some nifty overlays to test beforehand. Looking forward to seeing this project evolve. Thanks dev!

Hmm, you applied Android System didn't you? I gave a warning already in the main post.
Yeah, don't touch those unless you're dealing with Samsung Substratum specific themes.

Swift Dark / Black , Reverie , Grvy , PitchBlack etc... They all should work fine for 3rd party apps & Google apps. Just don't tinker with System apps.

updated to Oreo, menus now white, how do i get them dark again?

It seems they are now inverted from before the update. When I hit invert, the menus look correct, but the rest of the stuff is messed up, so that doesn't work.
How can I get my dark menus back without ruining the colors of everything else?
To clarify, I'm referring to the menus in settings and when I swipe down from the home screen.

yeah, that's Oreo's default theme. Lots of white. So what you are seeing is entirely expected and normal.... inverting the colors affects everything...
If you want to theme Oreo, you can do so, but you will need to be routed and install 'substratum' found in the play store... Oreo supports theming, but I think for now, you must be rooted (although, last I heard there should be a paid app available soon that doesn't require root)...
Also, there are lots of Oreo compatible themes for substratum, available in the play store.... I'm using a dark / pure black theme. Love it.
Good luck
You can try Substratum and Swift Dark/Black Theme
I still have this problem. It would be nice if Textra fixed the issue. If you go to Customize Look -> Screen Color -> Light, then the menu appears white with dark text.
But if you choose Dark or Black, then it's white with very light text.
Why can't Google just provide a setting to let us to choose either a light or a dark background for the menus? I don't want to root and I'm not going to buy a theme app. I don't want to "theme" anything else. I just want a toggle to choose either light grey or dark grey settings screens. Simple enough.

I'm sure they will down the line. theming/OMS is still very new in AOSP and stock Oreo and AFAIK, they are still ironing out support and their own dark theme...
if you don't want to root or pay a Buck or two to a hard working theme developer, than you are S.O.L.
If it is simple enough, feel free to write the supporting code and contribute to AOSP.... complaining in am XDA forum isn't going to make that support appear for u.

It's back on 8.1. If you have a black wallpaper it will detect this and theme everything dark. Download the developer image from Google. You can root it too, with a working SUhide.

My settings menu didn't go dark. Just the Google App and the notification pane. And Swift Dark is not quite there yet on 8.1
Oreo update HORRIBLE, knew in 2 seconds I would hate it when my notifications section turned to white background (you suck google) then noticed all kinds of thinks I didn't like. Apple updates made my phone worse EVERYTIME and now google is doing that. Simple stuff like changing background colors GONE and worthless stuff added to hug up the phone. Had my Moto for 3 weeks, first 2 weeks liked it, updated to moto oreo and now DON't like it anymore. I just wanted security patches not my OS screwed and ALL my setting gone, and why is this clock showing up again. all my setting which took forever to figure out and now reset back to what i didn't like, then add the horrible WHITE background garbage like the notoication window. I didn't want my nice UI screwed up. So I learned that like APPLE every Andriod update will be worse TOO. sad, don't like my new phone anymore, thanks for updating it to GARBAGE.

Hey!
I will pay! I will pay a developer! What apps do this?! I will buy them in a heartbeat. I am just as frustrated as OP and some other posters in this thread.
I AM NOT ROOTED ON AN HTC 10.
I spent all morning on a deep dive in the Play Store tinkering and installing several apps, and none of them addressed the actual issue of allowing the user to choose the color of the notification shade. I can't stand the white either.
Please help.
Andromeda, it's on the app store and also probably easy to find on here. Sorry I don't have a link at the moment, I'm on mobile. But the app is about 2 dollars and works great on my Moto z2 force.
Keep in mind you will need a laptop and some basic knowledge of turning on usb debugging in developer settings. It will need to be a Linux/Mac/Windows computer. Chromebooks are not supported as far as I know at this point.
See the xda thread for more details. Find it by looking up "Andromeda xda" on your favorite search engine of choice.

I went through that whole process this morning also. I kept getting a "run shell script" error with my Mac. It's real frustrating. I didn't want to do it, but I gave it my best shot, and I followed all the videos and directions, but no one knows what to do if "run shell script" error comes up.
Didn't work out I guess. But I gave it a shot. Still is so much to do just for the option to make an eff-ing black notification shade.

I have a few I've used that are unmistakably dark.
I think the reason is because I use Nova Prime as my launcher, so the themes aren't going to pick up on that and thus change the color of the notification shade.
Yes I too I'm pissed off at this new Oreo white look I like the look of my old build WTF why can't Google give us a choice why can't we theme just the God damn color I'm really pissed off now.
I'm so pissed off as well, can't get menus and title bars or even pop-up menus to be black. It was fine back on nougat 7.0
Now it's all white
I dont mind the Oreo update but like so many I hate hate hateeeeeeee the stupid status bar, its white. I wish they allowed up to change the color on the status bar like we can for the AOD clock. I have a background of nature and the sun is up there and I cannot read the clock, battery, connection status etc because its invisible on the wallpaper and I have a theme. I tried to use Andromada but it looks so confusing to use and you have to pay for it and the feedback from the public is bad
**** google for this. YOU HEAR ME??? **** YOU GOOGLE! YOU SUCK! FORCING WHITE BACKGROUND SCREENS ON US! MY EYES HURT... I"M GONNA CONTACT MY LAWYER!!

Sign-Up For the EMUI 9.1 beta For Huawei Honor Note 10

Here is the link guys : https://www.wjx.cn/jq/42642015.aspx
The Huawei official Chinese forum where I got the above link : https://club.huawei.com/thread-20964297-1-1.html
Last time I posted a link where you could sign-up to get Pie beta...This time the above link is for signing-up for EMUI 9.1 for Huawei Honor Note 10...
The page is in Chinese so use a browser like Chrome to get the page translated into English...
You will first need to select the first radio button called Agree...Then you will need to select your FW version as 192...And lastly you will need to put your Honor Note 10's 16 digit Serial Number (not the IMEI number)...
I filled the form like 48 hours ago & still the push has not arrived on my handset...Let's see when can I get the EMUI 9.1 push...
Best wishes guys...
Registered!
Look how long it takes and if you can go back to pie.
at Emui 9.0 it went very fast I think I had it in 12 hours

According to the official Huawei forum thread where I found the link of registering for the EMUI 9.1, it should be allowed to go back to EMUI 9.0 but we will see that after we get it installed...
I will update about that in this thread too once I finish installing the new update which won't take long...
Successfully updated to the latest 319 EMUI 9.1...The new lock screen face unlock animation is pretty cool...
We can roll-back to EMUI 9.0 192 using HiSuite...
Still downloading mine. Any improvement on the audio volume or do you think we're still gonna be waiting on Android Q before they sort it?

Definitely louder than 9.0, if not much but still a noticeable increase is there...I also am using the app which you mentioned to increase it a bit more...I too try to keep it under 22-23 because anything more than that & the sound starts distorting at the high/full volume...In short, I'm happy currently with 9.1 & not missing Oreo much...Now just have to see how the battery life fares in 9.1...
The audio loudness thingy can be a Google issue rather than Huawei's because in some of my earlier android phones, i noticed this too that, after upgrading to a new android version, the audio gets less louder than its previous version...
Think I found a bug. Under setting / sounds / sim ringtone and notification. I can't select anything.
When I press to change it doesn't do anything...... Tried restarting the phone but issue still exists..
Update : I can change my sim ringtones in the phone dialer / settings.....
But still haven't found a way to change default notification sound...
Update : Seems only, way to change notification is to use file manager and select the file I want to use and long press then 'set as'.......

No problems here from my end...I just checked & I can change the ringtone/msg tone without any issue...
You may try a full system backup first & then a factory restore to see if it solves for you...

Like I mentioned before, me too got it late, after about 2.5 days...After about 1.5 days, I filled the form twice because I was getting impatient because it was not coming & I thought it would come after 12 hours max like last time...But eventually it did come after 2.5 days of first submitting the form...The update may not show automatically...So, keep checking for the update manually in your phone because it will show-up in the update manager of your phone... Also while you are waiting, you may try submitting the form 2nd time just to make sure that it will come...Maybe it's not necessary but still for the peace of mind...

By default it's not available...But you can install a Dark theme...I am giving you the link to apply a Dark Theme...
First go to PlayStore & install this APK : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.deishelon.lab.huaweithememanager
After you get it downloaded, open the app & there you can find many dark themes ready do be applied...The app has some adds but when you select a theme you would like to install, just press apply under that theme & the theme will get downloaded & saved into your Huawei Theme's my theme section...After the theme gets downloaded, open the official Theme manager and navigate to your themes& apply the theme from there...You can also save the theme HWT file on your computer using HiSuite or Windows explorer for easy access in future.
The theme I just installed from that app named Evanescence Lite (Amoled)...But you can choose any Dark Mode theme you like in the app...
Alternatively you can also see this XDA thread for some Dark Mode themes : https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20/themes/deep-black-emui-9-theme-t3877187
P.S. There will be some bugs in all the unofficial dark mode themes though...It's more of an EMUI problem & not the developers....Sometimes you won't be able to see some white texts in few parts of the OS...
I will also be on the lookout for the best looking dark mode theme I can find for the device...

After trying a lot of dark mode themes from XDA, playstore & the theme app I mentioned about in my previous comment, I have come to the conclusion that, none of them are working properly on Note 10...On some settings pages, the names of the apps cant be seen & on some places I cant see any text & everything is black including the texts also...
You can try a few & Please let us know if you get the entire theme working on all parts of the phone...
I really wish Huawei/Honor included it officially then we wouldn't have to face these issues... The Dark Mode should be there for all Amoled screen phones of Huawei... Maybe they ignored this phone because it only released in China...I tried some dark mode themes for Mate 20 Pro & faced the same issues of not viewable texts on many parts of the phone...

I was telling about if "any" issue you face...I have not faced any face unlock issue on mine but a member mentioned that after updating, he can't set his ringtones/message tunes using the normal procedure plus he also didn't have the "Video Ringtone" option present in his ringtones section...I don't have these issues so I didn't do a factory reset because I have a lot of apps to take care of...But maybe later, I will also do a factory reset to start it freshly...
