Samsung T295 shuts off unexpectedly - Battery mod - General Questions and Answers

Hi all,
I have modified my T295 to run directly off of the 12V in my car.
Basically I got a Buck LM2596 3A Step Down converter and dialed it in to exactly 4.0V to mimic a almost fully charged Li-Ion battery and hooked it up directly to the battery terminals, skipping the tiny board that comes with the battery. In other words, straight to the mainboard.
The tablet works perfectly as a car stereo connected to the Bluetooth Amp and doesn't have any problem, but once every 3 days or so it suddenly shuts off. Sometimes I enter in my car and it's already off and sometimes I'm driving, it suddenly gets a completely black screen and then shuts off. I can turn it on immediately after, but sometimes I need 2-3 tries.
Maybe it's kernel related and triggers some sort of brownout? But this doesn't make sense to me, since I can stress it and it doesn't turn off.
It's Android 9, rooted, debloated and decrypted in case this helps
Thanks for any advice!

xda2i Battery :S

you may had this topic before, anyways.
it had no power at all the backup battery was empty sow as the main one. i stick my xda2i charger in, red light shows on the top right of the handset, left it for about a day, picket it up the next day and only the backup battery is 100% :S it turns on every 20 mins i can use it for about 3 mins and it turns of again. help please
sounds like u got a buggered battery mate,
are you charging it using a mains charger or USB only?
noooooo please dont say that, and im using a mains charger
how much is a new battery?
edit: i have a usb thing aswell
the phone is almost brand new
theres two imputs on the phone one on the outside, one on the inside (back of the phone) maybe the outside imput is for the backup battery and the input inside the phone may be for the main battery? but they have diffrent sockets and i only have the one for the backup battery i think.
is that correct? anyone?
thanx
max
edit: so many veiws and no posts?
ok, i found out that it charges the main battery through a usb and im doing that, but it wont charge on the charger :S and when i take the usb out the power goes down like every 3 minutes a % goes down. may be im running something on the device i dont know about? very strange surprised to see such a machine fail its duties. :/
O2 needs to fix themselves
thanx
max
check the task manager you maybe starting the camera when you take it out of the cradle also what do you leave running in the back ground tapping x in the corner only minimises the program it doent stop it
how do i know whats in the backrpund?
I could suggest a couple of things but I think the easiest course for you to take would be to back up your files and programs (if you need to) and then perform a hard reset, once you've done that leave it to charge overnight. Make sure that your cradle is powered NOT from your computer using USB but from a charger plugged into the wall alternatively you can simply attach the adapter (that came separately to your charger and plug it into the bottom of your phone. The charger charges BOTH the backup and main battery there are no separate "inputs" as you put it. The connection is located at the bottom of your phone beneath the joypad.
I run bluetooth and use wi-fi on my IIi throughout the day as well as make and recieve about 2 1/2 hours worth of calls, My GPRS connection is more or less constantly on and when i'm out and about in my car (approx 2hrs throughout the day) I'm using the 2i as an MP3 player outputting sound through the car speakers. I sync my phone once in the morning and it stays on the cradle for about 10minutes. My battery basically lasts the whole day, by the time i put it on charge at about 11:30 pm its at about 21%
thank you for ur reply's
one more thing this is a stoopid question but how do u turn the phone of?
i tried pressing the on/off button located top left of device but the light just goes out, and i leeve it at night and in the morning the battery is dead im not running any programs.
thank you
max
press the icon on th etop toolbar which displays your reception, select "turn on flight mode", that will turn your phone off
after i press turn on flight mode nothink happens it just says turn of flight mode (wireless off)
max
i think i need to get a new battery the percent just goes down every 3-5 mins

[Q] Tablet doesn't charge, dock does - what to replace?

I've been enjoying my TF300 since the month it was released, but in the past few months the battery stats have become less and less accurate. I was watching YouTube videos on it while it was docked and charging yesterday when it suddenly died, and I haven't been able to get it to boot since. Sometimes it will start to boot, but die half way through the boot animation, which implies that the battery isn't charging.
When I plug the charger directly into the tablet, it flashes orange twice and then does nothing. When I plug the charger into the dock, that shows green - so I assume the dock is fully charged. When I plug the tablet into the dock, it flashes red twice again.
The logical assumption from this is that my TF300 has stopped accepting or holding a charge. My question is, which part do you think I should try and replace first? I understand that the dock connector has separate pins for 5V and 15V charging, so maybe that's been bent or broken somehow...or the battery itself could be worn out...or the motherboard could have developed a fault. Has anyone had a similar experience to this? I don't want to buy a new tablet as there is absolutely nothing wrong with my beloved Transformer other than this!
I'm going to leave it plugged directly into a standard PC USB port for several hours tomorrow while i'm at work, to see if it will trickle charge that way. That would imply the charger is at fault, despite the green light from the dock when it's plugged in.
sort of same here
My thoughts are that the one battery is no longer seen by the tablet and the other is getting too much of a workout as a result.
We have possibly just lasted beyond it's expected lifetime - which is kind of dissappointing. I don't understand exactly, but we might troubleshoot this still. What rom or Firmware are you using? I am on straight CM11 with no other modifications. I am using the tablet docked al th time and th rom "sees" the two batteries but dies at about 50% of the one without touching the other. I'm pretty sure that it really only is using the dock battery and never seems to go to the tablet battery anymore. Wish I could fix it - will try to use it without the dock and see what happens.
It was running KatKiss 5.0.0 - I kept reminding myself to go and download the latest update but never got around to it.
After leaving it plugged into a standard 800mA charger all night and all day, it booted for about 20 seconds and then died again before it reached the lockscreen. It seems that the battery is either charging unusably slowly or not at all. I may have to start hunting for a new convertible!

Well mine is working fine disconnected from the dock - so it sees the Tablet battery and uses it now; I will use it until it needs charging and then try again - by attaching the dock and charging etc. Will yours work if just plugged in? - like a laptop with an old battery, does it still work but you are tied now to the power supply / charging cable? I have installed the latest "homebrew" Omni now to just get a new start on things and will continue to just use up the battery and see what happens next. My preference is to have vanilla CM but it seems the tablet battery was invisible. I hope by re-setting things and having a new Rom in place will give me a clean slate.
Sadly no, it doesn't run even when permanently tethered to the power supply. I think the battery has to report a minimum state of charge before it's allowed to turn on, and that's where it's failing in my case.
Batteries are back
I wish that I could tell you how - but I can't - the batteries are back to full functionality. I will tell what I have done and this might possibly help. I installed Omnirom with Lollipop and it worked but was very slow. Then I installed CM 11 back (then CM 12, then CM 11 again all with the appropriate GApps & SuperSU etc.) and it seemed to put things back in order. I did also install a battery calibration app which just deleted a file tracking the battery(s). Some where in there the batteries starting working properly - this involved more than a few re-boots and re-installs (dirty and clean). In all this mess lies a possible solution or maybe it was when I slammed it shut in frustration - this could all be due to a loose wire/solder joint too. The battery is following the "normal" process now of first draining the tablet battery to ~ 80-90%, switching out to the dock battery, then switching back to the tablet when the dock is drained fully.
@kjwaugh
I can't recharge my battery and I have CM-11-20150112.
My little led never turn on orange light.
My question for you is: Does your led turn on when you plug in the USB cable ?
I'm afraid I have broken some analog circuit inside the tablet or, I hope, only the cable.
Please let me know.

**Device in hand, observations**Wireless Charging constantly pausing and making sound

Hi there,
So just some observations...
When I use the wireless charging pad (TYLT VU) the phone will constantly BEEP BOOP and the screen turns on to say wireless charging paused it will then turn off after a few seconds.
I've read in other forms this could be due to overheating etc.... but in touching the phone it's not hot.
This is annoying... And... no current fix I can find to stop it.
Borrow another wireless charger (or go to a Starbucks or something) to see if it's the device.
If not, you might have a damaged charging pad.
I've been getting a lot of "wireless charging paused" messages as well. I have my phone on my desk, streaming audio, and it occasionally turns on and that messages comes up, and then it immediately starts charging again...hmmm...
I have 8 pads around my house, all the Nokia D900s that they gave away with the Lumia 920s. Last night I experienced this for about... 15 seconds or so. I readjusted the phone and it worked fine thereafter. Sucks that the beeping woke us up at 5am though.
I don't think it's my pad, it happens on both.
I think positioning could be part of the cause?
Oh well...
Again, just observations I'm seeing.

I'm having the same problem on my S6 Edge. I have a couple TYLT chargers and they work perfectly fine with my Nexus 5, Nexus 6 and Nexus 7's... both work flawlessly with those. But they both fail to work properly with the S6.
I'm pretty disappointed with this. Anyone got any ideas or know of a similar shaped charger that works with the S6? I really don't want to go back to my Nexus 6 due to the size, but having the phone beeping and flashing all night trying to charge is unacceptable.
My regular S6 was doing this last night. I wonder if it has something to do with the camera sticking out and not letting the phone lay flat?
I don't like charging it with the USB because I know the frame will get all scratched up eventually.
Running into the same problem with my T-Mobile S6. After setting it on a new 3 coil charging pad, the phone looks to be taking the charge, then once the screen times out and turns off, it will vibrate, turn back on, and display "Wireless Charging Paused".

On my Qi-infinity stand, it actually does lay flat as the charging pad ends just below the camera, so I don't think that's the case here.
Update: So I've managed to solve my problem by changing the wall adaptor from an old 1A Motorola plug to a 1.5A version and it's currently charging without troubles. Switch back just to confirm and within seconds, it starts giving me trouble again. I guess the S6 is picky about the power levels? *shrugs*

I was having the same issues. It turned out I was getting my monies worth out of the $5 walmart special I was using. I ended up getting a 3 coil charging pad and now it charges just fine. Nary a hiccup.
Link to 3 Coil Charger I'm using
everyone remember to use a 2A (possibly 1.5 amp input is also okay) charger. the output will be ~1A. This was the solution to many of the cheaper wireless chargers on ebay/amazon. Just one more thing to check!

Best Solution
In the last solution, turning on Daydream will let the phone's screen on unless you turn it off.
Another better solution is to enter developer mode and turn ON StayAwake. Same effect of daydream but without the annoying on screen.

Problems with wireless charger

Hi, i keep getting continual issues with my wireless charger.
there are 2 main issues i keep getting:
when i put my phone on the wireless charger quite often i will have to place it on the charger twice for some strange reason, this has happened for a long time now, if i place it on once, often nothing happens, so i then have to take the phone off the charger then place it back on and it will then realise its on and start charging.
The second issue i keep getting a lot is, sometimes when i place the phone on the charger it may start charging and then instantly say charing has been paused, then instantly start charging again, then instantly pause again and so on.....
Often i have to restart my phone to get it to charge properly, sometimes even after a restart it still does the same thing and i end up giving up and just plugging the cable directly in.
Does anyone else have the above issues or know how to solve them?
Is it a dodgy charger?
Thanks
James

I had the same issue with my previous s6 edge and found that setting on the screensaver in display allowed the wireless charging to function proprerly even tho doing this turned my phone into a hot one.
Then I discovered that (I don't know which kind of wireless charger you own, I have a samsung one (ep-pg9201) with a green/violet ring on the base with green in idle state and violet when charging) when the charging state is turned off and the screen displays "charging has been turned paused", moving a bit the phone or rotate it until the ring turn violet resumes the charging process.I just didn't need screensaver anymore.
I've replace my s6 edge by a s6 edge + and I'm still in the process of calibrating the battery but I found that usb charging is damned too slow, taking ages (4, 5 hours to gain 20% of battery) so I've not try yet wireless charging but only fast charging. I just hope the guy who sold it to me didn't screw up the battery and it's lifespan.
Anyway, on my S6 edge I've managed to reach 4 days on a battery charge, I' not sure I'll reach this with the edge + as this phone has real issues in that department.

Cant start my car twice since installed PX5

Hi, last week I installed MTCE PX5 unit and OBD module, I enabled auto sleep and about 6 days car worked good, but yesterday I must use cables to start it, so I did one hour ride to charge it, but today it happened again... I have Peugeot 407, my battery have 74 Ah and I have wiring right, because installation was easy plug and play. There was not any space for do some mistake. Also when car engine is running, radio shows income voltage is 14,4, which should be normal and there shouldnt be problem with alternator.
What is best solution now? should I buy car battery charger and try to charge it? Or my battery can be damaged?
Thanks

See an auto electrician.
I have almost the same problem. I just posted a new topic without realizing someone else has the same problem. My car is Renault Megane III coupe. I noticed that even while car is off, the radio periodically starts by itself and turns of after a short while, but over a few days that's enough to drain the battery. I changed the battery, bought a new one and it's still happening.

Try not using auto sleep but a fixed power off interval.
The head unit will take longer to start but probably it shouldn't use battery power when car is off.
Obd port is always on. So might be that draining the car battery.
Hope this helps.

I hope this is it, because I dont want to go to service, I took OBD module off and testing it now and so far so good.
I also have this problem. It's worse now that I don't use the car so often (quarantine and such...).
The first time this happened (after a 1 week vacation away from the car) I had the OBD module installed and I blamed it on that so I removed it and swapped the battery because it wasn't receiving enough charge. But this week (after 12 days without moving the car) the battery is completely flat. Can't even unlock the car with the remote, have to do it with the key.
I tried a lot of hacks (even have the can-bus powered from a fuse that I know it disconnects when I turn the car off), but I still have battery drain problems...
I will probably disconnect the radio when I know I'm going to leave the car off for big periods of time...

Your car needs to be started al least on 3 days interval, 12 days is to much even if you do not have installer an audio system like this.
There are things that are draining your batter also like de security sistem on your car.
