Parameter not available - OnePlus 8 Questions & Answers

Hi,
To be able to install the AndroidOS 12 ROM, I need to move the package to internal storage. But when I do that, I get the message "Parameter not available". But the file does get moved, though I am unable to install it using Local Upgrade utility inside System Update. Any ideas?
I tried moving the file to internal storage using Solid Xplorer and the X-plore app as well, but it still doesn't work. Any thoughts?

Internal SD Card

Just a quick question about rooting to my internal sd cards. Just so everyone knows im using Froyo.
When i mount my phone and go to my computer i click removable disk drive H with 13.4 GB free. After clicking it 5 folders appear: Android, DCIM, external_sd, LOST.DIR, and Nook.
Now i am wondering if the internal sd is what all these folders are located on, or if there should be a folder for my internal sd. I originally assumed that it was all on the internal sd however after trying to root for the last 5 hours and failing its raised question.
after i click "reinstall packages" i then get an error:
_Install from sdcard....
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to open/mnt/internal_sd/update.zip (No such file or directory)
now i know the "update.zip" file is the file added for the root, but according to this error it should be located to a folder name "internal_sd" however no such folder exists. Like i said before i thought the entire removable drive was supposed to be the internal memory so why would there be need for that folder and if i do need the folder do i just create it is is it a hidden file or... yeah i have no idea, help please?
Unfortunately you can't root Froyo with an update.zip (unless I missed a post). I did it this way Captivate JI6 (v2.2) Hacks (root, non-market, no start up sound)
you are right 2.2 cant be rooted by the update.zip method. Nothing can be loaded by an update zip at the moment due to changes in system

If you look closely at the messages it is giving you. It has found the update, opened it and then tried to verify it which is where it fails. The reason being that Froyo requires digitally signed updates. The root method we used for 2.1 uses an unsigned update file.
I am curious about the LOST_DIR folder. I have em too. Also note that the external SD card is no longer under /sd but /external_sd.
hmm alright i just hadnt seen anything that said i couldnt do it that way yet, i dont know anything about this stuff. went to that link but have no clue how to do that either so i guess im screwed

Read up on how to set up and use ADB from your PC (search this forum), specifically pushing/pulling files and using the shell. Once you've become familiar with that, the instructions for rooting JI6 won't seem so difficult.
i also wish i had read this before spending 7 hours aimlessly in front of my computer thinking i was on the brink of success every time i tried.

Apps not installing

I'm rooted and running stock Rom. I tried to reinstall crazy snow board (as an example) and get the message install failed can not find SD card. Any one have this problem? I'm at work and don't have access to the search feature. I was able to install another app. (imb movie) I have clearest cache and fixed permissions in Rom mgr since I update cwm. Have also pulled the battery.

Is your phone mounted as a disk drive?

Yes it's not mounted as a disk drive, I'm home now and had time to search. Found this from user Modred on another site. " I had the same problem, here's what I found out: there's a work-around and there's a fix.
1) The work-around: Unmount your SD card, install the app, mount your SD card, move the app to the SD card. And yeah, that will get annoying pretty quickly.
2) The fix:
Now, this worked for me and I read it on the android market support forum, but there's no guarantee.
- connect your phone to your PC as a mass storage device (you cannot access the file we're looking for via a file manager within the phone, the OS keeps it hidden)
- backup important data
- find the folder named ".android_secure"
- there, delete the file called "smdl2tmp1.asec"
- disconnect your phone
If all went well, you should now be able to install apps again. Nothing bad happened to my phone by deleting this temp file, but please backup before you do this, just in case.
Hope this helped. "
I tried both and they worked.
I wanted to confirm...
...this does fix the problem and causes no damage to the phone. I tried it and it worked like a charm.
Thanks for the tip!

[Q] how to resolve "Installation Error - Insufficient Storage Available"

I just got my wife a new Samsung Infuse. Successfully rooted with the SuperOneClickv1.9.1. I was then able to restore some of her old apps with Titanium Backup.
My problem now is that when she goes to install a few additional apps she gets the following error:
Installation Error - Insufficient Storage Available
However the SD Card and Phone Storage pages show plenty of space!!
Available Phone Storage = 1.46GB
I realized the problem after she had installed some simple stuff like Handcent and MyFitnessPal and they just disappeared. So I went to install ES File Explorer and RomManager to do some troubleshooting and that installed successfully. But another weird thing was that those two didn't show up in the app draw. So I went back to the Market thinking I would try and install again and the market showed it was already installed. So I was able to open the ES File explorer and rommanager programs from the market with the "open" button.
does anyone recognize something like this? I can't explain it?! I'm using the stock rom.
i read something about installing more than 50 apps?
i read that i should try to wipe the dalvik cache? but i can't figure out how to get into cwm recovery to do that?!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091465
I found both of these and I think of my self capable of doing this stuff, but i can't figure out the exact steps to get all the way to wipe the Dalvik Cache.
i'm open to all suggestions..
Please help

This phone auto-copies your apps to your microSD card (external_sd). Try going to Settings -> Applications ->Manage Applications -> On SD Card -> Click an application -> Move to Phone.
Rinse, Lather, Repeat for each application.
Thats not happening with mine. All my apps are installing to the internal sd card. Nothing seems to want to go to my 32gb external sd card except pics and videos. Game data, navionics maps and all that load onto the internal sd
I am still getting this...sometimes I get it sometimes I don't...but there are a few apps that never install because of this...any ideas?

I had this problem and I just kept trying to install. Did a reboot and tried again and it installed. Not sure of a real fix though.

Try this if you have the new market with the book and movie categories. Uninstall the market update and you'll be able to download your apps using the older market. There is a bug with the new market.
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Downloaded>Market>Uninstall Updates
I had this problem a while back. After hours (i mean hours) of googling, I found that the Market saves the app into the /cache partition. Samsung unfortunately made this partition only 30MB in size. Now, if you rooted and installed a custom rom that has the voodoo lagfix (ext4 partitions), 5 MB will be used as a journal for the filesystem. This means that if you try to download an app thats greater than 25 MB, the market will say that you have no space available! (cue expletives!)
The easiest way to fix this is to temporarily bind the cache partition to a location on your sdcard. For example, lets say you have a folder on your sdcard called syscache.
you would bind /cache to this directory with (run this in terminal or adb. run su first)
Code:
#umount /cache
#mount -o bind /sdcard/syscache /cache
Unfortunately i can't seem to find out how to unbind the directory after i am done. Found this solution on the internet. Use at your own risk :]

System data using way too much storage

When I bought this phone (LG Optimus L90 D410 Dual) 2 years ago, when I checked the storage, system was using only 3GB, which left me with 5GB (it has a total of 8GB). But now, when I check how much system storage is using, it is using 5GB, leaving me with only 3GB of storage. How can I make my system data as small as it was back when I bought it?

clear junk data using clean master app or use sd maid pro for better cleaning..... and if you want your storage like before as was your phone new.. you shall carry less apps as less you can... and move apps to sd card for more system storage.....
The thing is, I already use Clean Master (frequently), the apps I install they all use the 3GB of storage I have and I can't move apps to sd card cuz' I'm on 6.0.1 (Cyanogenmod 13)
EDIT: System data was using 5GB before I installed CM 13

Try debloating your current android installation by removing system apps that you would not use. This can be accomplished using applications such as <Mod snip of warez reference > or system app remover in Google Play.
All the bloatware I have with CM 13 is some apps that only use KB of storage and Gapps (Nano), which they all sums up 293.6MB

The problem is that the disk is partitioned in such a way that leaves little space for apps.
What you should do:
1. Shrink /system partition where it has enough memory to do all it's stuff, but doesn't take up too much space. You said 3GB worked fine in the past and it probably will now.
2. Allocate the unused space to the /data partition
Warning: If repartitioning goes wrong it will most likely result in a hard brick. Know what you're doing.
Warning 2: Many people say you should never repatition your phone. You will no longer be able to instal updates and the space you take away from the system may be critical storage used for device recovery or some kind of backup or emergency mode. Try app2sd or (if you're hardcore into moving stuff) link2sd.
1st: I thought of resizing the system partition, so I googled it and couldn't find anything, so how do I resize a partition on my phone?
2nd: If I make a backup of my entire phone through TWRP in case anything goes wrong, if I hard brick my device could I just restore the backup?
3rd: I already tried App2SD and Link2SD, but when i partitioned my SD Card, it gave an error. (Gonna move the things inside the SD Card to my PC and try to partition it, so I can specify the error)
if you have upgraded Android it could be that the newer versions are larger than the old one due to more features?
It grew up to 5GB while I was still on stock 5.0.2

So it looks like your system is taking up less than a GB. Have you used Root Browser to check what is in that MNT folder? The reason I asked is because I checked my Nexus 6 and my LG G Pad 7.0 and I don't see the MNT folder anywhere. I am running Android 5.0.1 on both devices. Below are screenshots of both of my devices
There are 2 links to my home directory (on "asec, expand, media_rw, obb, sdcard, secure and user" folders), and a runtime folder, which has 3 folders(default, read and write), with the 3 of them being a link to the /storage folder

Does your phone support external SD card or is it all internal?
It supports external SD, but I "can't" move anything to it cuz I'm on 6.0.1, so I would have to transform it into Internal Storage and I could transform it into Mixed Storage, but the problem is that whenever my SD Card is Internal or Mixed Storage, it randomly pops out, forcing me to turn off my phone, re-insert my SD card and boot it again. I'm not with it cuz' currently I'm putting some pdf files to it on my PC

Have you tried using Apps2SD? Not sure if it works on 6.0 but it works on 5.0 and below.
I cannot get it to work cuz' when I partition my sd card and try to mount script, it showed up the error "file not found". When I checked the directory it specified, I realized that I didn't have the 179:66 file, the one I have is public:179_66. The temporary solution (cuz' the file got deleted when i rebooted my phone) was create a hard link from public:179_66 to 179:66, which resulted on the error "Invalid Argument" (Sorry if something's written worng, English is not my native language)

So back to the main issue, according to your X-Plore results, your system folder is only taking up 876mb. I would download a root file explorer such as Root Explorer and explore the various folders such as Data (2.99gb) and MNT (1.34gb) and see if you have some temp files you can get rid of. There are also apps such as CCleaner that will scan your device for temp/cache files you can safely remove to make more room.
