Oneplus 8 Development - OnePlus 8 Questions & Answers

Could anyone point me to a reliable tutorial on how to build a modern rom? I want to learn how to build. I would love to build my own Paranoid Android based rom. I am reading tutorials currently that I have found, just dont want to miss out on gold and dont want to assume what I have found is gold if it isnt. Thank you for any consideration.

[XOOM2] Develop?

Hello everybody,
I'm new to android developing, I've been flashing roms since I got my nexus s 2 years ago,
did lots of rom updates for my friends ad stuff.
I really wanted to learn how to develop android roms, so I decided to follow the steps and compile my first
cm10.1 for my nexus s with the help of the cm wiki.
After some day learning the most I could out of linux bash and the process to compile a rom, I finally got a working rom.
Well, I have a xoom 2 too, so I thought, what if I could try to build a rom for it, I know it would be hard, but it would be good so I could learn more about developing.
I'd like to know if with the safestrap 3.1, the lastest we have now, if it's possible to compiled a rom for xoom2 (mine is mz607), if the safestrap would be able to rom another rom than the official one, because the little I used it, it was looking fully functional, but I didn't find answer of what is possible or not to do with it in the thread.
If you say so, I'm gonna do my best to develop one, specially now that I have free time for the next weeks,
if anyone can help me out, with any kind of help I would be glad.
Thanks a lot

[Q] Custom rom

Hi guys!
I have been really interesting on creating a custom rom, and I don't know how to do it, I've read a lot of tutorials but I just can't do it.
I was hoping that you could give me a tutorial, or even open a thread to help who is trying to build a rom and doesn't know how to do it.
That would be extremelly good for ace plus, because we would get more developers to our phone, and who knows they could get really good at developing, that they could help devs to fix the bugs on their roms.
Best regards,
kaeOzZ

Building a custom rom is not so easy like you think...
Sometimes it takes 3 months to build a rom...
And 1000 guides explain how to do this

Rom Porting

Sup, my fellow ONE-chaps.
I'd like to port a CM11 ROM from the Galaxy Note 3 for my ONE.
Can someone help me through how they ported their ROM to this phone?
Thanks in advance!
There are far to many differences to simply port a ROM from the note 3 to this phone, it would be hell to get it working
You would be best off to build from source and then cherry pick the features you wanted from that note ROM, but even this would be difficult to explain step by step here.
Check out XDA-university and look through those guides to see if its something your comfortable doing
Best of luck!

Where can a novice start with new rom for GT-N8000 please

Hi all,
I have the note 10.1 GT-N8000 on android 4.4.2 and i want to upgrade it to a stable Android 6.0 ROM
Can some one please point me to an idiots guide on flashing a new stable ROM on this tablet.
i have read a lot of threads here but they are all dating back to 2013 and i'm not sure if the information on them are still relevant.
cheers
NEW +Stable = no .
Old = yes but 4.4.2 as thats the last Samsung build .
Android 6 no release for Note 10.1
One Android 6 rom posted in Alpha stage at present and very unlikely to be other Nougat based roms . .

For Marshmallow, CM13 is your best choice.
If you don't need MM specifically, CM14/LineageOS runs well (Nougat); it's what I'm using.
You have to labour to read the threads' initial discussions and latest discussions at least. If you don't want to spend hours on this, then just stick with what you have, hire someone to do it for your, or buy a new device. Flashing is not for the impatient.

I don't mind reading because it also helps with more knowledge about this, however some of the methods of rooting dates back to 2012 and the threads have about 66 pages and over 500 comments.
If i can see a step-by-step guide, i can do the rooting myself.

Easy way 2017 would be to flash a custom recovery through Odin .
Then find supersu zip and flash that through recovery .
Not all custom roms require rooting it depends upon the instructions .
You want a rom then you choose and read the instructions first .
PS you also require a rom that's actually got a download as many roms are dead on here .
I highly recommend Lirokoa's unofficial LineageOS/Nougat ROM. No real bugs and it runs beautifully.
i had done some reading on the Lirokoa Lineage ROM thread, The ROM it self even still on Alpha stage, Runs beautifully. but some people stated that the Cell standby draining more Battery compare to SOT. well thats just from what i read, i personally havent try it myself. But its the Newest ROM for my N8000, im looking forward for it to reach Stable stage

Redmi Note 3 Pro - Custom ROMs for Nougat

Hi all,
I'd like to install a custom (global) ROM for my Redmi Note 3 Pro in order to have Android 7 ( Nougat) on MIUI 10. I see that there are different custom ROMs and they each have bugs. Therefore, I'd like someone to suggest me the most stable ROM that is best suited for performance. Also, I'd appreciate if you could link me all the needed tools and guides. I'm currently running Android 6.0.1 MMB29M 2018-07-01, MIUI 10 Global 8.11.22. Beta & I use 4G networking.
Thanks in advance.

There is no such thing as "best ROM", there is only trying them out until you find the one that works best for "you" to suit your purposes.
What someone else likes or what works best for someone else may not work best for you because you and the other someone else probably have different "other stuff" installed or you and the other someone else might use your devices differently for different purposes.
Long story short, stop looking for the convenient answer and start experimenting with the various ROMs available for your model number until you find one that is acceptable to you, you will be the one using your device, not someone else. If you want to modify your device then you have to be willing to put in the time and the effort and deal with the headaches that come along with getting your device setup the way that you, as the user, want it.

Is "[ROM][OFFICIAL][7.1.2][kate/kenzo] LineageOS 14.1" a good first choice? I assume that this is a global version!? Thanks a lot :good::good::good:

I don't know, try it, if you don't like it, try another ROM. As I said, stop looking for a convenient answer from someone else and get busy trying ROMs for yourself, that is what "experimenting" means. You're wasting time, get busy.

If it's made for your specific model number, it won't brick the device unless you as the user do something wrong in the process. If the ROM had a tendency of bricking your device, it wouldn't be posted on XDA. Also, LineageOS is a well developed ROM in most cases, the only LineageOS ROMs that have a tendency of being terribly bult are the UNOFFICIAL builds, the OFFICIAL builds are built by the LineageOS developers, unofficial builds are built by members here that have modified the work done by the LineageOS team, the LineageOS team is at the top of the food chain when it comes to developers of custom android ROMs, you can't get much better than that.
