Systemless root + font and custom kernel

Hi all,
I'm pretty new to Android, XDA and rooting. I already learned a lot and I'm currently setting up my new HTC 10 with systemless root so I can easily get OTAs. Now I also want to change the system font and install a custom kernel for performance and battery life but I can't find if these two things will influence the systemless root. I want to install the font through flashing a zip file in TWRP and install the custom kernel with a kernel manager. Am I still able to easily apply OTAs with these two things if I install them the way I just described? I hope somebody has the answer. Thanks!

Pixel Root Questions

Hi guys. Please bear with me - I am a noob to rooting phones and custome recoveries. I haven't had an android device since ~2011, so I need some time to get reacquainted. (Poke fun at me for using iPhones)
Either way, I recently got a 5" Google Pixel and have been looking for a decent guide to root it. I have done research on the topic, but I can't find a straightforward guide or instruction list. I believe I could do it, I just don't want to risk bricking a $700 device.
From my understanding, I need to unlock the boot loader, adb boot some custom recovery image, then install the latest root package. Again, if my jargon is confusing I apologize - I've beeb with the Jailbreaking community for quite a while and haven't tweaked an android device forever.
Could someone link a guide or help me out? Also I have been reading places that you must flash the supersu zip to two different locations for it to work properly.
In the end, I'm hoping to have my Pixel rooted on the most recent firmware and be able to use Adaway and to be able to update with FlashFire (I think that's the name). Also, I'm hoping to keep systemless root to avoid tripping SafetyNet. I would like to be able to easily update.
Thanks in advance guys, sorry for the long post. Hopefully someone more knowledgable can take me under their wing.

That's the procedure. I booted TWRP Alpha 2 for installing SuperSU, so that I didn't need to worry about the popup that sometimes doesn't show up on TWRP RC1. The following seems somewhat verbose to me, but it's the correct procedure and includes videos if you want to watch someone do each step. You don't need to download the TWRP zip, so like noted, you can stop at step 12 on the TWRP instructions and avoid installing TWRP to the phone.

[REQ] boot.img patch tutorial

Hello,
Since flashing SuperSu, or phh superuser, after upgrading to B380, has become a hard task (one flashes but no root is achieved, the other just returns an error), I'd like to ask a step by step tutorial to patch/root boot.img. As soon as there are some different variations of FRD, the patched boot.img available around won't cover all the needs.
I guess it would help a lot of the less coding skilled FRD owners to get root permission on their devices, after updating to B380 FW version.
Thank you in advance.

Me too!

Not able to root

I am playing with different rom from many years but recently I am not able to root using SuperSU in a custom ROM (Stock Rom is finely rooted!)
These custom roms are not new and I used to have root in them earlier but now SuperSU is not showing up even after flashing from Recovery!!!
I am getting this error in Recovery while flashing:
SuperSU Boot Image Patcher
Patching Boot Image,
Boot Image not found, aborting!
Life is really bad without root.
(KingRoot is what I am using right now but I want SuperSU!)
Please come up with all kind of solutions I really need it!

Logs will be critical in giving leads.
Just finished responding one on SuperSu here. (Got some references in there)
Questions:
1) "Tried flashing SuperSu from recovery". How about installing from Google Store?
2) Are the Recovery and SuperSu of the latest versions?
SR1-SuperSU-v2.82-SR1-20170608224931.zip
Google Store
3) Is the device is rooted? (Read that you are using KingRoot as of now, bear in mind uninstalling it revokes the root permissions just the way it does for SuperSu - you may want to refer the NOTICE on the Google Store link for SuperSu)
Btw the author has some more logs for you to zero in
Reference/s:
[APP][4.3+][ROOT][2016.12.10] LiveBoot (Logcat/Dmesg Boot Animation) v1.50

For known issues you may get help online, for rest you may find solace by reaching the SuperSu Guru, though you may not get any answers on PM as the Notice says.
Hope this helps.
Finally, Thank if you feel helped.
Please add my device for rooting. Is Micromax A106

can you tell me how to use magisk in MMX A106? I"m a noob

Flashing stock recovery only

Hi there, I'm having no luck finding a solution to my problem anywhere.
I'm using a Galaxy S7 running Oreo (I know, old school), and like many phones, it came with a bunch of apps that can't be uninstalled unless you have root access. So, I installed TWRP, and then Magisk v23, and then I installed a root uninstaller in order to remove the apps in question.
However, I use Revolut and an app for the bank I'm with, and so while my device is rooted, I am locked out of both.
What I want is to have the disable-only apps gone, and my device unrooted and back to normal so I can use Revolut and said banking app.
I believe uninstalling Magisk should unroot the device, but without Magisk installed, I can't boot into the system because of TWRP and the whole dm-verity thing. So, I want to replace TWRP with the stock recovery, which, if I'm correct, should achieve the desired outcome.
I downloaded the exact firmware for my phone from sammobile, and the recovery file can be extracted from it easily, but I don't really know how to go about flashing said file, or even if I can. Odin isn't working for me.
I tried flashing the whole "AP" file via Odin (the latest version), but that restored the device back to it's factory state, disable-only apps and all.
So can anyone help me with this? Or is what I want to do here even possible? I'd really appreciate some input / advice. Thanks!
P.S. maybe you can tell, but I'm kind of a noob, so apologies if I'm overlooking something obvious.
Android's recovery where it doesn't matter whether it's Stock or Custom can't be used to unroot Android if it got rooted by TWRP and/or Magisk this because phone's boot.img got tampered by those: you'ld have to completely re-flash phone's Stock ROM to get rid off of all modifications you applied so far.
Okay then, thanks for explaining.
Just to be clear, what you're saying is that it isn't possible to unroot a device and then restore just its stock recovery (to replace TWRP). You cannot undo modifications made to boot.img and therefore must re-flash the stock firmware?
What I do with unwanted system apps on other android phones is to remove the .apk from /system by booting into recovery and using the shell/adb with u**x commands (actually move them somewhere they can't be seen by the O/S with mv command).
Also when faced with dm-verity, Magisk just modified the boot.img
and changes fstab to take out verify from system mount & patches init and removed /verity_key.
I was able to uninstall Magisk (only phone mod was unlocked boot loader allowing custom boot over usb).
