General Trade In Program Tips/Tricks - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

I've used the Samsung Trade In program since the S8, and only once had an issue which Samsung corrected. But just a few quick tips for those new to the program:
1. Send in ONLY the device you're trading in. No cases, charges, memory cards, etc. If you're trading in a Note device, you MUST send in the SPen too. That's been a question in the past, but according to Samsung's most recent t FAQ and the Terms and Conditions, SPens are required for phones. NOT required wirh laptop/tablet trade in devices.
2. Trading in a watch - send in only the watch. No chargers, no watch straps. Just the watch itself. Again, that's straight from the terms and conditions.
3. Pictures. Takes pictures of your trade in device. I include all sides, the screen (both off and on) and the IMEI number. I also record a video. I set all my packing materials up, and record one long, nonstop, uncut video of the phone working, factory reset, then turned off, packaged and sealed. That's crazy overkill, but it's worth it if Samsung ever tries to claim it arrived broken.
4. Package it very well. Bubble wrap, paper, etc and in a good box. Put the bottom half of your shipping label in the box too.
5. Last step, watch your email for updates on the trade in program. It can take a couple weeks before it passes. Don't sweat it.
If you can think of any other tips or tricks that might help others, feel free to add them in the comments.

Someone recently recommended to do a printout of the photo of the phone working showing the IMEI number and include that with the return. That indicates to the person receiving it that you have photo proof it was working and in good shape when sent which may prevent any possible "under handed" behavior on their part.

Oh that's a good idea, too! I wonder what about including a link to photos/video. Like upload to Imgur and send the link in the package?

None of the photos can be used as a proof to get something from Samsung. If something happens, it's the couriers problem. You will need to open a claim for your damaged parcel. I sell on eBay and I know so well about the policies. We send a brand new item to a customer, customer claims that he received the item with missing pieces, we provide photos of the item, eBay says how do I know you took a photo of the item with all pieces and took one piece out and posted it? So they say it's 50/50. The best you can get is the amount of the item in the parcel from the courier. It will be depend on the insurance chosen.

There is at least anecdotal evidence here that photos and video did actually protect a customer when Samsung claimed the device arrived damaged. That's also why I said I video the whole packing and sealing process.
I also sell on eBay. Have for 20 years now, along with other online marketplaces. I know far too well the pain of a customer claiming an item arrived damaged and eating the cost of it. The worst was a customer who bought a used phone, left me positive feedback, then THREE MONTHS later, filed a PayPal claim, because they claimed the speaker didn't work. PayPal sided wirh them them and made me eat it.
But in this case, videos and photos won't hurt anything and have certainly helped in the past.

So you know it well already. The reason Samsung accepted it was probably a courtesy. If a case had been sent to a court, they would probably have ruled as how eBay say. Honestly I'm not sure If I would sell mobile phones on any marketplace. It is too risky.

Anyone else have any non doom and gloom tips and tricks? LOL

Do we really have to send our trade-in device in the S22 Ultra box that we got? Seems weird to me. Below is email I got from Samsung for trade-in.

the huge ass box that is big enough to hold about 100 S22 Ultras - with no bubble wrap or anything to stop the phone box jiggling around - at least that is how they shipped my S22 Ultra to me.

Should I remove the screen protector when trading in my phone?
Also, is the FC IDD a must? saw some reddit post about writing it in a little piece of paper.

Going to be sending in my two Note 20 Ultras for trade in credit to Verizon. They provided the return boxes. Question though, its been awhile since I traded phones in for credit, is there anything else I'm forgetting to do before sending the hones back?
I uninstalled important apps like bank and financial apps, removed any administrative permissions (had Norton 360 as an admin) and uninstalled, turned off find my mobile and now looking to factory reset the phone. I'm not going to return anything on the phone, no case, no screen protector/camera protector and only the S Pen inside the devices.
Am I forgetting anything before I factory reset and box them up? Thanks in advance for anything I may have missed.

if you use google authenticator, make sure you move your 2fa accounts to your new phone, smart switch doesn't do it.

Okay cool, I don't, but I definitely appreciate your response. It's something to keep in mind in the future. Seems like I've got everything else in line, just need to factory reset and take some pics and possibly a vid of the screen and their like new condition.

Or better yet, just migrate to Authy which bypasses that flaw in Google Authenticator, and is designed for use on multiple devices (e.g., tablet + phone + desktop).

Mine a lctually arrived in an appropriately sized box. The S22U box inside was wrapped generously in packing paper, which I used to wrap my Note 20 Ultra and place in the box. I love this S22U, but was kinda sad to see the last true Note boxed to be sent back to Samsung for God knows what purpose. It was absolutely mint condition too.

Screen protector doesn't matter. I only removed mine to take photos and show it was still pristine.
The FCC IDD is actually stored as an electronic document in the phones settings. No need to include it. But it won't hurt if you do.

Sounds like you got everything. What I do, is I factory reset, then I set the phone up without any accounts to make sure there's no lock on it. Then I factory reset it again. Just something I learned after selling a phone to someone, and it showed up with the FDR Lock on. It was a PITA.

LOOK at Samsung Trade in prices for all Samsung models then see if you can buy one on Craigslist, FB Marketplace or ebay CHEAPER than the trade in value. A friend bought a Note 10 for 250 and samsung trade in was 410. He was 160 "up" on the deal.

Avoid the cradles from seller "U-Bop" on Amazon, too. Same thing, great picture of a small cradle. Slightly more expensive than the other clunky big ones. I order it and they send...a big clunky one. Then want me to pay return shipping, then delay my refund. Then they delete the listing on Amazon, (with my negative review) wait a few days, and re-list the exact same thing. Same fake picture and all. Not cool. I put up another negative review calling them on it and it's still up for now. Amazon backed me up, though, and I got a full refund after filing a dispute.

I had a similar issue with U-Bop. Ordered a case for my Desire; it didn't arrive so they sent out another in a different colour. When it arrived it looked totally different to the picture, had holes in it, and ended up falling apart.
After I sent them photos and was issued a refund they had the cheek to ask me to remove my negative feedback!
Bump - I would hate for another member of this forum to have this issue with one of these sellers.

Bad Company
I ordered an htc tytn ii replacement battery however when it arrived I noticed some problems with it. Firstly the battery dimensions are not identical to my original battery, only a few millimetres smaller in places however this means the battery does not sit as tight as the previous battery. what this means is that while it does charge and then function, when the phone is moved the battery loses its connection and the phone powers off! I'm also slightly skeptical in the authenticity of the battery, when compared to the original, the writing is clearly smaller and it looks possibly as if someone has copied the image from an actually battery and stuck a sticker of it on top of a cheaper battery. The general design of the battery also differs in places, most prominently on the back of the battery!
I tried every method of contacting them and absolutely no response!! Too bad, I didn't read your stories, from now on I will definitely avoid them.

Call your Bank
Hey Kez,
If you want to know what you are up against, do a quick Google search for "gadgetbuyers.co.uk". This post here, and another like it also on XDA are right there on the first page, right after the links to their website.
You probably just want your money back, and you are not obligated to track down any vendor that ignores you. That's just a stalling tactic they use.
Instead, call the bank that issued the card you used to pay for the purchase and initiate a chargeback for the transaction. Just tell the bank they did not deliver anything, and that they are ignoring your repeated attempts to contact them. You will get your money back, and they will be charged another fee for doing the chargeback.
You have to keep good records here, save your emails and write down each attempt to phone them, etc. When you talk to the bank, have everything together in a time line, and then call. It's surprisingly easy to do, and it works.
Good luck and post back here again if you run into trouble, or just PM me.
Thanks for the warning. I'll keep on the lookout.
Thanks for the info. Will not buy there.

50.00 deductible for 600.00 phone, should I be worried?

Today, while running with my son on a nature trail, a freak accident happened. The stroller hit a rock in such a way it launched my phone from a holding pouch into the air and onto the ground shattering the screen. (i run over 75 miles a month for the last two years, so never dreamed of this happening) I was devastated, especially since it's a month old and since i'm one NEXT i can't really afford an extra 200 bucks. I went onto the phoneclaim website and tried to file a claim, initially telling me my deductible was 199.99 but my g3 wasn't listed and it told me to call to file the claim.
So, I call the number, speak to someone. She asked me about the damage, and what accessories if any i was claiming. I told her just the phone, no accessories or sim card - since that stuff was in tact. After putting me on hold, she asked me about the color of the phone, repeated the LG G3, asked me to verify identity questions (which amounted to my street address) and said that my deductible was 50.00 which would be applied to my bill. Now, i said
"not that i'm complaining, but this is the 32gb white LG G3 we're talking about, correct? "
"she replies yes sir"
"I said not only did the at&t rep tell me 199.99 when i signed up for the insurance, but the website also told me 199.99 when i entered in my number"
"she said I wouldn't complain either sir, it states 50.00 here with 1-2 business days shipping"
So, what are the odds something bad is going to happen here?
Ie: the wrong phone replacement, not a phone at all, but like a battery or something... i dunno.
Just can't wrap my mind around everyone saying 199.99, then being told 50.00 for 600 phone. ....
should I be worried?
Did they send you a confirmation email? If not, call back with the case # and get them to email that to you.

They did, but all it states is that the claim is been received and being processed and a tracking number will be provided once it ships.
I'd imagine you're good to go at $50 since she told you that.

It's a good thing I went back to the site.
They had me for a replacement of the G3 VIGOR, not the G3 D850. When I called back, they asked me a ton more questions plus i have to sign an affidavit and send in a copy of my license. Then she told me an adjuster would call me and let me know if it would be replaced or not. She also said had i not called back i wouldn't have even gotten a new phone because the last person screwed up.
But, seriously... what am I paying insurance for if they will let me know about the replacement... i'm pretty sure we pay insurance for this exact issue.
I dunno, what a headache.
That sucks! I've replaced one that way before and I never had to give them a copy of my license? I'd sure be *****ing. Good luck!
Unfortunately this happened to me a week after I had my phone. The deductible was 165$ & they tried to give me an lg g2. Luckily I called back and had it fixed. It was a quick yet expensive lesson. And yes, I had to do the same with my license and an affidavit. Hope it goes well for you.

No such luck for me. I've had my claim denied twice now. I've filled out three affidavits, sent in various pics of the phone and barcodes, license etc. I've mad a trip to the AT&T store all to no avail.
The reasoning is all very vague, like telling me my time of occurrence and date of last usage don't match, or that they've even tried telling me i don't own a G3 lol.
Worst experience ever...
I'll end up trying to contact LG and see if i can just get them to replace the screen for the 200 bucks it will cost or whatever.
sigh.

Insurance on anything that depreciates like a smart phone is a scam. I would never and have never gotten phone insurance. I keep one old phone at all times just in case this happens.

I would normally agree. I've only ever gotten insurance once, and it was for this phone. I also kept my galaxy s3 just in case this very thing happened. But, since i'm on the next program, i'll be damned if i'm paying 600.00+ for a phone that i can't use, even if it means i have to fork out extra for a replacement.
All that said, they actually approved my claim after several denials - nothing ever changed with the paperwork.
Now i just have to keep my fingers crossed that i get a new g3 replacement (or damn near like new referb). I hope it's not a heap of junk replacement like i've read in other stories about asurion.
Now, i've actually heard great first hand things about square trade insurance, cheaper payments, cheaper deductible, and no questions asked claims. some folks my wife and I work with use it and had nothing but good things to say about them, which is where i'll be headed to after my replacement.
*Shrug* Whatever floats your boat. Cracked screen repair for the G3 is about $150 direct from LG. They are going to send the phone to LG to repair it. Probably at a volume discount. They probably make a ~$100 profit on the G3 every time someone uses their warranty. Every phone claim is a profit for the company. If it is not, then they deny the claim. This is why I call it a scam. You are paying them monthly for the privilege of maybe having to let them profit off of you.

Hi st0nez0r,
We’re glad to hear that ultimately we were able to get this resolved and a replacement device is on its way to you! This is not a typical experience and we’d hate to lose a valued customer. While we understand that paperwork is never fun we have the affidavit process in place for your protection. This helps prevent fraudulent claims against your account and helps keep premiums from rising. We recognize the cost associated with replacing a device which is why it’s our goal to help our customers save money while also getting them reconnected quickly should they experience a covered loss. In addition to covering physical damage, we also cover liquid damage, loss and theft; where most do not.
While we do use both new and certified-like new devices, keep in mind, all replacements come with a 12 month limited warranty. Should you experience any warranty failure, we’ll replace the phone at no additional cost.
We appreciate you sharing your experience, as it helps us to improve the services that we offer. Please let us know if you have any other questions or if we can be of further assistance.

This was quite unexpected but appreciated.
Honestly, In terms of cellphones, dealing with Asurion was one of the worse experience I've ever had in the history of owning a cell phone. While I understand the need for paperwork and whatever various methods you use to combat insurance fraud,
beyond those measures is where I had the real problems:
Dealing with rude/obnoxious customer support representatives (just one, but one too many.)
The run around game. Sending me to an AT&T store to obtain info, then to be belittled by another rep for doing what I was initially asked to do. (referring to the same rep as above)
Lack of information and communication during the process. In some cases I didn't get a call or email explaining why my claims were initially canceled. I had to call back for that info.
The website is not all that great either. one example would be filling in your first/last name, phone number, email, and social just for an update. How about a tracking number process or something.
No option to contact/talk to support after paperwork is submitted for review. If you have questions/problems you can't speak to anyone during that process. You're greeted with a phone message stating your stuff is under review and that you'll be contacted. then hangs up on you. I guess this is in place so work can actually get accomplished without being overwhelmed by calls, but still...
In the end I did receive a brand new replacement device. The return process was also a snap.
I've learned my lesson at any rate. I invested the extra money in a spigen slim armor case and tempered glass protector.
Thanks for replying to this post.
I almost had a similar experience with Asurion, but ultimately a good one. It all started with initiating my claim over the phone, just to discover no record of my claim upon following-up. The follow-up rep offered to resubmit or direct me to the website, where I'd be able to print documents required and receive confirmation/ updates upon successful submission.
After downloading, printing and competing the affidavit, I was able to scan and upload, along with my ID. This took less than 15 minutes.
I had a brand new phone, shipped from AT&T within a couple days. I've been a wireless dealer, and the Asurion representative's explanation about hurdles preventing fraud are entirely valid. The $200 deductible + my first monthly premium is not a scam- they ate maximum money on my claim, particularly as my replacement was NOT refurbished. I'm still only paying AT&T for one phone. Asurion bought the majority of the other. My deductible will be used to minimize the loss, likely through repair and reuse for a future claim. Loss/theft is an even bigger loser. Their money is made from premium revenue that exceeds claims expenses.
While it sounds like they could tighten up their call centers, if Asurion has replaced your $600 phone, they've certainly not robbed you.

This is why I never use the carrier insurance it sucks and the more the customer service... All my devices I always go with SquareTrade, only $5.00 a month and $75.00 deductible.

My eBay experience (techno.trading.house)

Hi everyone,
I want to share my journey with the Z3, and the experience with buying from eBay, specifically from a seller, techno.trading.house (Steph, Ed). I bought two brand new Z3 (D6603)--a black one for myself, and a white one for my girlfriend. The order was smooth, and the phones came in pretty much brand new (open box though) with their plastic peel-screens on the glass, untouched. After using the two for a few hours, I noticed that my black one had a defective sensor (photo). The seller advertised "hassle-free" exchanges/refunds, so I reported the defect and had the black one exchanged right away.
After a week, the new one came, the same brand new (open box) condition as the previous phones. However, there was a slight manufacturing defect with the USB flap--it closes completely at a slant (photo). I spelled out the issue with the seller, and here was how it went:
SELLER: I'm sorry to hear that! We will certainly replace it for you, I believe that your phone would be damaged underwater if that or any other flap was not closed properly. (I also do strongly suggest to avoid wetting the phone just in case). Please return the phone to...
ME (after 2 days delivered to them): Hi, have you receive the package yet, and have you ship out the new phone?
SELLER: Your return has been received. If you had chosen to receive a replacement, it will be sent within 2 days. If you have opted for a refund, it will be issued within 24 hours minus applicable restocking fee.
ME: Do you have tracking info? Thanks!
SELLER: Our records indicate that we have already sent a replacement. You have reached out to us to let us know that the replacement has the same issue. In order to avoid another occurrence, we recommend that we proceed with a refund for this item. Please let us know if this is okay.
ME: Sorry, I am not sure what you are saying. Are you talking about the previous replacement or the 2nd replacement being shipped out? I am currently waiting for the 2nd replacement. You said "sure" on the second replacement last week.
SELLER: We are talking about the previous replacement. We believe since both- the original phone and the replacement phone- has had the same issue, that a refund might be best. Let us know if this is ok.
ME: That is not correct. First phone had a defective camera. Second one had a manufacturer defect on the flap. You agreed for the second exchange, so I am not sure why you are backing out now? I need the phone as I have been using an old dumb phone for work for a week already.
SELLER: I'm very sorry for the confusion. I just read back through the emails and you are indeed correct. We will have your replacement unit shipped today. Here is your tracking number. Again, I am sorry for the confusion. Have a great day!
ME: Thanks. I just hope the new one does not have any defect--I will be checking it. If it's not shipped out yet, anyway you can inspect these? Thank you.
SELLER: Hello, Not a problem.

So the 2nd replacement came (third phone), and the phone came in a used/open condition. There were no plastic peel-screens on either side of the glass and the USB wire was laying in there without its plastic wrappers. I knew immediately this was used, so I began close inspection of the phone. I found that the power button had a noticeable dent on one side, as if it was dropped on a table before. At this point, I don't know what to do with the phone. I have summoned the seller to see what they plan to do with this situation.
It appears that the seller recycles their returned phones and try to sell them as new, or whatever it is. I am extremely disappointed with this seller, and I want others to know so they may not fall into the same trap.
I checked the current feedback, and it appears someone had the same situation (photo). Go figure!
To me this sounds like a fair seller and a picky buyer. 832 positive reviews and 6 negative ones in a month is a ratio I would buy at if I wanted to save a hundred bucks by buying without factory warranty.
It could have been an honest mistake. I doubt he purposely gave you an opened one, just work with him to solve the problem. eBay is much harder on sellers than buyers and he would ruin his reputation if he did it on purpose. Looking at his rating I would say it was an honest mistake.
I understand if he wants to refund you, he is just trying to cut his losses. At the same time it was your misfortune to get a bad device/s. Since this phone is known for cosmetic/other issues as its in early production you are better of buying from Sony/carrier making replacement easier.

I'm sorry to hear that. It was really a frustrating moment you went through. If I were you I would probably be really angry.
If you want, just buy it from Sony store. I got mine and it's perfect so far (except some cosmetic minor faults).
I bought two phones directly from the same seller. The price was cheaper on their own site vs eBay or Amazon. Both phones are perfect. They came in non sealed boxes. I've got no complaints.

I may be a picky buyer, but who wouldn't be when you receive a defective product, and even worse when you get a used one on your third one. Feedbacks mean jack when you are on the short end. They are only good for initial decision about the seller, hence I trust them like you would too.

Yeah, I really regret not buying from Sony store, or even T-Mobile here. At this point, I might just say screw it, keep the phone, and move on with my life. Maybe the Z4 will entice me in few months. :good:
I purchased 3 different Z3 D6603 from Techno Trading, Never-MSRP, and Sony Direct all off ebay.
Techno Trading shipping a Central America version of the D6603 (White) to me and it had no seals whatsoever on the box (US Charger). This model would not show LTE indicator until I flashed a generic TFT. Booting with Encryption shows the Pin Entry text in Spanish but quickly changes to English. Seller Feedack: Shipped very quickly but using subpar shipping materials. Shipped from Miami.
Never-MSRP shipped a Central Europe version of the D6603 (Copper) to me and it HAD seals on the box but also included a Sony Screen Protector (Non-US Charger). This model had the LTE indicator from start. Booting with Encryption shows the Pin Entry text in English. Seller Feedback: Shipped same day and was packaged very well. Unfortunately, they are located in Houston so I had to pay tax.
Sony Direct shipped a Generic North American model of the D6603 (Green) to me. This one had seals on the box but didn't include the Screen Protector. LTE shows from start and includes a US Charger. Plastic on the front and back of phone is totally different than the other two. Its hard to describe but the other phones came with a very very thin plastic protector. This model shipped with much thicker protectors on front and back (still meant to be removed because they have tabs on the side). Additionally, the other two phones were inside a cellophane bag but the this model was not in cellophane. Shipped from Sony in Romeoville IL. Shipped within two hours of purchase using FedEx for free. Unfortunately, Sony charges tax everywhere. Packaged well but not great.
My point...
Sony packages models different based on their intended destination. It might not be that you ever got "open box" devices but rather they were intended for an area which Sony (for whatever reason) chose not to use seals.

That is interesting. Before buying from techno, I bought a white one from tropical_mobile (in which I sold quickly due to being D6653), who stated they were located in Tennessee, but shipped from Singapore. However, the phone was sealed with two white rounded "sealed" stickers on the box. The phone also was sealed in a clear plastic slip and had protective screens on both sides.
This whole Z3 deal has been pretty bad luck for me. Maybe it is not meant to be. But good news--the seller techno.trading.house got back to me, and is willing to refund me $20 for the dented power button, or do another replacement. I'm planning to take the refund, and live with it as I am sick of all the exchanges. Who knows, the replacement might have even weirder issues.
If you spend $500 plus on an item, you the buyer, have every right on this planet to be as picky as you like.
Nobody has to settle for anything less than perfection.
So no, you don't have to accept a defective camera, or flap or indeed a previously returned phone.
As I mentioned before but was lambasted in another thread, Sony may be using premium materials, but they are certainly not using premium construction. Not when some people have to go through six boxes in store to find a unit without light bleed and gaps.
I myself had two exchanges within the first two weeks. My first unit was simply not waterproof and had a leaky flap and my second one didn't charge on the magnetic dock and now I have light bleed but no energy to fight it anymore.
It's almost as bad as an iPhone. All my iPhone friends have had multiple exchanges... Some as many as 5 in a year.
Sent from my D6603 using XDA Free mobile app
More recent feedbacks to prove my point.
stop accepting being called a picky buyer.... ur paying top dollar for the phone, that said u should receive a product good for the purpose, if the camera doesn't work its not good
if the phone isnt water proof it isnt good
if there is a dent in the design it should state it before being bought. so it's not the buyer nor seller (purposely) its a unlucky sale.
I purchased mine at t-mobile. I paid 100% upfront despite being with t-mobile and they unlock it on the spot. When I registered with Xperia Care (sonymobiles product registration) I entered my IMEI and it has till Oct 2016 on warranty.
However on the 2nd day of owning the device The bottom speaker stopped working and was making a static noise. I went to my t-mo store I purchased it and they swapped it out. I didn't even pay a restocking fee. The manager said as long as I get the same phone and since I bought it back so promptly that he would just swap a new one. This one has been perfect since. Sometimes the convenience of having a store near by is better than having to deal with shipping my phone back and forth!
Alot of people dont want the tmobile Bloatwear but like I said, 32 GB + Local customer support outweight > No bloatwear & 16 Gig with mail in issues. (since i have no sony store near by, id still have to mail in for repairs and exchanges)
Me too, I'm glad I bought it from TMO with an EIP, exchanged mine 3 times on my 4th now, no hassles or fees.

Ever had issues with samsung trade in?

I traded a perfectly fine device and this morning i got an email saying phone wasnt accepted cause it didnt turn on. Have you ever had issues with samsung trade in? What did you do next?
Yes, I sent in a phone and was told it was cracked. I took pics before I sent it. I called and the rep reversed it. I'd call and say it was functioning just fine.
Talked to someone. They said they are going to reevaluate it and get back to me after 5 days.
Only have done it once but had no issues. I was afraid though after all the horror stories I have read. It was a long excruciating wait lol. Sorry about your issue hopefully they get it sorted out for you.
I sent a device in i bricked once they claimed was received destroyed. It was near mint. Claimed screen was broke all kinds of crap. When I got it back it was the same screen I sent it in with

They should've been able to do it immediately. By chance you have proof it was functioning prior to sending it in?
Now I'm actually debating trading in my s10 plus...just recently got the note 20 ultra but I've been really thinking about the fold 2 ... samsung will give me 400 vs best buy 300 but I'm actually thinking of skipping the hassle for the extra 100 I would save ...

Are they still using Ingram Micros? Its always the case when they skim off the top for self profit by lying about the condition of your device.

Yes they are!
I personally haven't had an issue although the last exchange went a bit differently than usual. Given the usual CV-19 crap that all big biz uses, typical.
I traded my S9+ in and got $400 off my Note 20 Ultra. They emailed me that they received it and it could be five business days before I get an answer. It took almost a month before they emailed me that the trade in was approved!
Even right now, I checked my order status and the trade in status reads "SkippedIMMTriageWindow". Not sure what that means but I have my approved email and have NOT been charged the $400 as some did that had (below) happen!
I was getting concerned as I found /r threads and youtube videos of nightmares where trade ins were rejected and the phone was sent back and the phone they got back wasn't even their phone! And completely different, like trading in a s9 and getting back a LG V40! Man I'd be pissed.
ALWAYS, ALWAYS take GOOD photos of your trade in including screen shots clearly showing IEMI, even with a piece of paper with your name written on it. (Like Swappa requires for proof of ownership). Also GOOD photos around the bezels, back glass, et al. To provide POSITIVE PROOF that you own that device and that's the device you're sending in.
Otherwise, it's harder to defend against these goofs whether intended or not. Use a good credit card too, along with said proof in case you need to open a dispute.

Reference 2nd from last paragraph, good advice.
That's what I did when I traded in my Note 8 for a 9, even took a final video of it being boxed with their shipping label .
You guys making me feel very pessimistic about the final outcome of that trade in. I was able to confirm the picture they sent is the right IMEI.
So will see.
Stil waiting on the result of the new test
Quick update here... received email today saying trade in was successful. Glad i pushed them to test the phone again.
Thanks for the feedback

Question Trade in lock bypass?

So I bought a S22 Ultra off Facebook marketplace for $900 I did an imei check with my carrier and confirmed it wasn't stolen or anything of that nature and we set it up on my account in store with the guy present and confirmed it worked. Fast forward a week I wake up to a nice message on my phone that Samsung has blocked my device due to incomplete trade in and that I need to contact Samsung to fix it. Cant use the phone at all. I have a $900 paper weight. Does anyone know of a bypass for this? Will rooting it give me the ability to get around this?
That's a new one to me. Sorry can't help, post a photo of the message the phone is showing.
The reason that happened is probably because the guy purcahased the phone from Samsung with a Trade-in discount. He did not send his phone in as part of the agreement. Then they tried to bill his card for the amount of the Trade-in and it didn't go through for whatever reason. After that they blocked his phone which you purchased from him. He most likely hated the phone kept his old phone and now you are screwed until you contact Samsung and resolve it. They specifically state on the Trade-in info they send you with the shipping label that if you don't send them the Trade-in phone within 2 weeeks the new phone will be locked out. The other reason they do that is if it's reported stolen. So your only two options are 1) Contact Samsung or 2) Throw it in the trash.
i think its unlikely, you could try to flash a new firmware with unbranded csc , im not saying that WILL fix it, but it wont do u any harm to try if your not planning on seeking help from samsung, i would recommend trying to fake an imei in an efs and load that, i couldnt advise you how though im afraid
That's the new way, they allow multiple trade in devices so the scumbag will select devices with the highest trade in to bring down the purchase price to the lowest possible level and sell it on arrival making hundreds in profits. Possibly the only way to avoid this would be to remove any samsung stuff BEFORE they initiate a lockdown.
We can't have nice things because of this and if it keeps up I see (Samsung) wanting to put a full purchase price hold at time of purchase and then release it when they get the trade ins. :-(
thats why i like to pre order and buy my devices for cash, no waiting and you know your phone is bnib

I read about this somewhere just recently. The bad guys are sure creative in figuring out how to game the system. Around here we have to be very careful of FB Marketplace. Sometimes it seems there are way more sketchy stolen items on it than legitimate items.
The other thing is you probably should get a screenshot of the persons drivers license when making a purchase for such a large amount of money. That way the Police know where they live and they got a photo as well. If the seller is not willing to provide that info to you then stay away. I am not gonna send somebody $900 on the internet and just hope they willl send me what they promised without fully checking them out first.
Nobody would accept that. They can simply say don't buy it then. How would he now you wouldn't be a dodgy guy and use his driving licence for scams? The safest way of this kind of trade in risks is to request the purchasing invoice where you could see if it was purchased with trade in option. If the seller doesn't provide it then i would recommend not to buy the phone for the first 3 months of phone's releasing date when trade in would have been completed already.
Always a risk when you guy items from individuals. The one thing for sure, if the deal is too good to be true, it usually is sketchy.

This is the most likely reason, and the only thing you can do is to contact Samsung. You could offer to pay the trade in value discount that was applied at the time of purchase, but that could be up to £570 (here in the UK) as that was the top tier (S21Ultra) trade in if I remember rightly.
I think there must of been some genuine trade in purchase, as a valid IMEI number is required at the time of ordering the new phone....Unless there is a way of generating IMEI numbers I'm not aware of.
I would contact Samsung before doing anything else with the phone, as I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung have locked the phone through Knox or something.
That phone is locked via knox. Nothing you can do unless you contact samsung and give them proof of your transaction then from there it's either they will help you or wont care at all.
That's samsungs fault at first. Here in Turkey, you pay full price. After they receive trade-in device they refund discount amount to you. This is the only way to stop such thing.

Right, and too, because of folks not playing nice and taking advantage of others, they will wind up doing the same thing here in USA. At the very least placing a merchant hold for the full device price on the method of payment and releasing it upon successful redemption of trade in value.
Samsung locked the wrong phone. They should be locking the new phone. Call them

Agree with you, FB\Meta is a mess.
I've had nothing but stellar results selling and buying using Swappa. They are pretty stringent with phone condition and both buyers and sellers.
My favorite transaction was about 4 yrs ago when I dropped a very well protected Nexus 6 just wrong while waiting on a lift, and the screen broke. If it were newer I would have replaced the screen, but 10 minutes into a business meeting I found a replacement for $150 in my city on Swappa. I pinged the seller and he was sitting across the street from me. When I got out of the meeting 30 minutes later, I walked across the street and he handed me the like brand new phone in box and waited for me to boot up! All pre-checked IMEI on Swappa for free to ensure not stolen, etc.

Well the crazy part is it was a in person purchase. Dude met me at spectrum mobile and they verified it was unlocked and would work and that's when the transaction happened.
