Question Running banking apps and OTA updates when rooted with Magisk - Samsung Galaxy A12

How easy would it be to get banking apps running and to install OTA updates when rooted with Magisk?

I got it to work with Universal safetynet fix! It has to work, if not use magisk prop config

You only got the banking apps to work?
Any idea on OTA updates?

for OTA updates you have to make a full backup of your phone, then re root with the new firmware and load the backup

Would the backup include all systems settings and apps?
Where did you download the stock firmware?

Hi
As long as you have the latest Systemless root and SU by Chainfire (being around for months) you did not modified the system files of your phone and unroot (from SuperSU) yes is possible
Some people said is possible also no unroot necessary if you just fake system status

Thank you. So just uninstall xposed and unroot(or not) and i`m good.
How about TWRP recovery? To install Xposed i should use TWRP to flash it(or could i use FlashFire only?)
Also should i defrost all system apps that i froze them?

Hi
Option 1 Systemless root and systemless SuperSu ( Chainfire) no xposed (rovo89) , no system modification, no R/W systems, no TWRP , unroot from SuperSu , OTA possible
Option 1.1 use Flashfire guide here
Option 2 ( have not tested it) fake system status
In my experience trying to return Custom status to Official after rooting, even after removing root, is near impossible
That said, with this new systemless root, I haven't tried, but if you have altered any system files, which is generally what people use root for (Adblocking = Hosts file mod etc) then it won't return to Official unless you flash stock over the top again
Not seen this new status spoofer until now, be interested to see if that works
Thanks guys
So i guess with xposed it is impossible to get OTA, because to fake system status we need xposed but to get OTA we need to uninstall xposed.
Also *Detection* is right. We root our device to alter system.
So at the end we need download whole ~2gb firmware(flash, root, xposed, all other changing system thing again) for 20-30mb monthly security patch

Basically yep, unless you're not bothered about the security update and just wait for feature/performance updates
With my S5 I used to update every update, download the new ROM, flash with ODIN, TWRP > Root > Mod
Doesn't take too long tbh

+ 1 guys
After rooting is very hard to keep system "clean" enough ....if you meet the conditions is possible.....but to my by far *Detection* suggestion is easier...
status spoofer i have not tried ( I have a custom rom) ......

Snapchat problem

Hey guys 2 days ago I flashed lineageos on my S7.Now I reverted back to stock without root and snapchat gives me an error page the sameome that prints when you have a rooted phone
Any suggestions?
You are on stock Touchwiz now but still can't login to Snapchat?
Could you download the SafetyNet Helper Sample and look if your phone passes SafetyNet?

If you're really on stock touchwiz (downloaded from sammobile, updato,...) this actually can't be lol
Have you installed a custom recovery afterwards? if so you can go into the TWRP filemanager and look if there are the files /system/bin/su and/or /system/xbin/su. If this files exist you can delete them and try it one more time
If you want to be rooted anyway, you can root with Magisk, which has a SafetyNet bypass.
If you don't want to be rooted, I believe there is no other option than download the stock firmware again and flash it (via Odin).
Change the name of the su folder to disable root, the room has a trace of pre installed root.. ether do that or remove root or custom Rom. Titanium back up Snapchat, re install, run backup & done

Safe to take OTA when rooted?

Is it safe to take OTA (B197) if I'm rooted with magisk and got twrp installed? Is it possible at all?

No.
TWRP in most cases doesn't able to install stock ROMs (OTA and FullOTA). Additionally old TWRP deletes partitions before install, so you can get some functional doesn't work.
If you made some changes in system partition OTA will not install, as it compares and requires previous unchanged version of files to apply new changes. No file - can't install.
OK.
Maybe FullOTA form FF is safe to install using TWRP?

No. As I told, TWRP doesn't know how install stock ROMs contain update.app file.
Safe, yes. If it wants to install.
But you'll be bootloader locked and unrooted when finished. So OTA or FullOTA doesn't matter if you want to stay rooted, you'll have to unlock bootloader again and root.

OTA and root

guys, i read somewhere that magisk affects only the kernal so here's the step i got to have incremental OTA with root.
1)install TWRP
2)backup the stock kernal
3)install magisk
when there is an update
1)install the stock kernal backed up above
2)install the stock recovery
3)update using incremental OTA
can anyone confirm this?
I was on 5.1.5. Twrp n magisk
Got ota 5.1.6. Installed. Flashed twrp and magisk again. All set

i am talking about the incremental OTA update. 5.1.6 incremental OTA was of around 230mb whereas the full zip is of 1.4 gb. so i wanna install the incremental update. just wanted to confirm if the above method will work or not.

Or it will detect the unlocked boot loader and show the same message such as root detected or bootloader unlocked??

I'm still on stock boot/kernel. I don't need TWRP on my phone. If I need TWRP in the future i'll just use
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-0-enchilada.img
to boot into fastboot.
My procedure for OTA + Magisk Root:
Install OTA (full rom because of root) inside Oxygen OS
Don't reboot!
Open Magisk Manager and go to Settings -> Update Channel -> Beta
Click install and select "Install to Second Slot (After OTA)"
HIt reboot

Why would you guys want to take this risk when the result could potentially be a hard-bricked phone? Incremental updates often replace only parts of critical files, which means that if an OTA patches a modified file thinking it's stock, it may create an unreadable mess. OP is sending you the full package for a reason.

That's rough, but personally, I would never take the risk to save some download time.

Update Magisk?

Currently running stock ROM on an unlocked and rooted phone.
Magisk manager reports an update available.. can I just download and install this?
I've seem posts saying you need to reflash the entire ROM but wanted to double check.
Thanks

I downloaded the latest beta version, flashed it with TWRP and restarted. It booted and has been working just fine, didn't have to re-flash the ROM.

All it's doing is updating the manager itself, not magisk. You're fine and should have no problems.
Actually Both Magisk and the Manager have updates.
I updated both via the app.
No Issues, Safe to update.
