Just tried on HTC Desire running CM7.2 RC0 Kang and is running just fine.
I like large areas for clicking. Also picture on home screen is larger then in cm. Nice.

I was wandering and there are several options:
1) transparent 1x1 widget with text contact name text
2) 1x1 widget with background light/dart with contact name text
and...
main window with call, text, email - disable image, put contact name text only...
What do you think would be most usable?

Sorry it does not seem to work now. When there is a picture available or none it always show's the widget icon only, no contact pic or in the text widget no contact name, just the widget name.

Reverted to nonscrollable config,
just shrinked it now - should work for most of screen sizes.
v01 replaced with new one - you can download it from the first post.
Sorry for such a hurry - I have to slow down
I will test it later and think about smaller screens.

1. Xperia Launcher and it's Widgets
Xperia's launcher is based on Xperia Z Launcher and simply can be installed as a normal application.
All widgets are included and would be working on Xperia launcher (not TW).

Widgets are re-sizable (enable Resize All Widgets in Launcher Setting) but the actual size for home screen is 4*4.
You can actually play around in lancher setting under Home screen option (simply touch the home screen, a bar would appear then you will find it).
There are lots of customization for the launcher. If you mess up the screen and are not able to wipe widgets, just wipe Xperia Launcher's data under settings\application.

Installation:
First install the launcher and then all those widgets.
There is a note taking application from Xperia called SemcNotes. In order to use its widget, you need to install the application also.
Music Widget would only work if you already have Walkman on your phone.
I also added Xperia's Gallery app if you like to use its widget.
All, except OnOffTools_x, can be installed normally.
For OnOffTools_x widget you need to move it to system/app set permission to 644 and done. ( If it is installed normally, GPS toggle would cause FC)​
I didn't make this, I am just sharing my XPERIence with this launcher on our note.

Is it possible to also use Exchange contacts or only Gmail?

This is a great little widget idea... it would be excellent if it could use the recent contacts or frequently called list as sources (and perhaps limit to those contacts that have a pictures).

Hi! At the moment, there is no opportunity to pick a contact you wish, but we consider this possibility in future. The only way to use certain contacts is to add them to a new group and chooes it in the widget.
Besides, we are preparing a paid version with hd images and some new features.

The problem is not in launchers themselves, but in customizing desktop grid, margin width and height, search bar absence as in stock android launcher.
You may try to change this parameters in Nova and see how the widget apperance will change.
You may try to add Exchange contacts to "Favorites" and to use them, but I'm not shure it will help. We will test this moment in the next version of the widget.

You're right, it's the grid size. It works only if you have the same grid size horizontal as vertical.

Thanks for suggesstion. With Facebook, it's nearly impossible to automatically get user's friend birthdays due to Facebook's restriction , (FYI, we tried this).
We'll try with Twitter and G+.
