Development [UNOFFICIAL][EXPERIMENT] TWRP for Galaxy Tab S7 FE - Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE

This is an unofficial and experimental build of TWRP which was tested on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE (SM-T735) model only.
I used TWRP Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ 5G device tree by ianmacd and modified it.
MTP doesn't work at the moment.
If you flash a GSI, be sure to wipe the metadata partition along with the data partition.
You might need to flash the neutralized vbmeta image.
Installing TWRP: Flash both files with Odin in the AP slot.
Kernel Source (I used the kernel which was in the stock recovery)
Device Tree Source
As always, be sure to backup your data in case something goes wrong.
Edit: I apologize to everyone for taking 1 year to update this thread.
Disclaimer:
No guarantees that everything would work. I am not responsible for any damages caused from this.

Thank You for your contribution, I hope to see a stable TWRP or other recovery

Will this work with T733?

Hello,
Yes, you can install a GSI with this, I've flashed the AOSP GSI and it worked as intended.

Can you flash these together by putting the vbmeta in userdata and TWRP in AP?

Hello,
How I had flashed these files on my tab was by flashing them one by one. Alternatively, you can flash vbmeta in the USERDATA slot.

Doing both at the same time doesn't work. Bootloop. Had to flash stock and start from scratch to get it working again. Then I flashed vbmeta which then required a factory reset. Did minimal setup and then flashed TWRP but couldn't get it to boot to recovery so TWRP got overwritten. I unchecked auto reboot in Odin prior to flash and when it finished held power and vol down till screen blanked and then switch to vol up. But when it reached the screen saying to push power to continue it didn't continue until I finally released vol up. Then it booted system instead of recovery. I held vol up for several minutes before finally releasing it.

Hello,
This requires a factory reset.
I apologize that i was not clear before but the steps i did were:
1. Reboot my tablet to download mode with adb using "adb reboot download"
2. Flash twrp in the AP slot
3. Then the tab complains about using a custom recovery, force reboot the tab and immediately boot to download mode (by holding both volume buttons and the power button)
4. Then flash vbmeta in the AP slot.
5. Finally, when the tablet automatically reboots, immediately hold the Vol Up+Power button to boot into twrp.

Hello,
Which model are you using?
It might slightly differ in the specs, if the model is SM-T733, I would suggest you try this version of TWRP instead.

Sorry, this was meant for another post.

The CPU of SM-T735 is Snapdragon 750G, and the CPU of SM-T733 is Snapdragon 778G.
Does anyone test this TWRP on SM-T733 to run?

Did you ever get TWRP to work? If so, what stock version were you running? I'm thinking I can't get TWRP to run because I'm running the latest update out right now.

AFAIK, the ONLY TWRP to work was for the T735 and it was experimental. So far, I'm happy with rooted stock. My performance and battery life seem to be great, so there isn't much pressure to improve with a custom ROM. So long as rooting is possible, you can do your own de-bloating.

J4 plus (J415GB) bricked

Is there anyone here facing same with my situation? today i bricked my J4 plus, Dunno if its hard bricked or soft brick, I can't enter to download mode and system restore anymore. Im just trying to get oreo back because i fell little laggy on my current os (pie). I went to samsung service center and they told to use JTAG to get it fix but its too expensive for me to pay hundreds buck for this.
Thank you
its not bricked. your battery is full drained. i had the same problem and how i fixed!!! i presed all 3 buttons and put usb cable to my pc and my phone. it goes like bootloop starts and shuts. you will wait with pressed buttons from 5 to 10 mins depend how low is your battery. and finaly will go to download mode and you can flash it then!!!
Bricked my J4+
Can someone help me with a bricked J4+?
I wanted to install TWRP, I followed the guide to the letter on how to install TWRP.
After successfully flashing TWRP 3.2.3-0 and flashing RMM bypass zip (without booting to the OS) I also performed a Wipe Cache in TWRP.
I booted to the Samsung OS and the system overall felt laggy.
I performed a Factory Reset, still the system felt laggy.
I decided to use Odin and install the Samsung factory system (thus go back to Samsung OS).
I booted successfully and decided to give TWRP 3.2.3-0 another chance.
Odin resulted in FAIL when trying to flash with the following error: Can't open the specified file (line: 1892)
I tried different versions of Odin (from last to previous ones), different USB ports, I even tried another PC but no success.
I performed another factory reset and now the phone is hard bricked I guess because it will power on...try to get in stock recovery and Erase...and then power off. I can't get to download mode or stock recovery.
Any help I would highly appreciate it.
Thanks.

you didnt follow guide from letter to letter. is obviuosly you didnt do all you need to do. if you in pie update you need to flash twrp (you did) then NEED to format data(go to wipe choose format data(not wipe data, cache) write yes and swipe to format data.this step is important.then go to recovery again and flash pie patched boot.img and oreo enforcing.zip, then RMM bypass, and then you can do boot up your device.thanks.

The part where I had to format the data...I have missed that. Thanks for pointing it out.
I took the phone to a repair shop because it is hard bricked and it needs jtag to unbrick it.
As soon as I have it back I will try again to install TWRP.

This is a phone from work and I did toggle EOM unlock and USB debugging in order to flash TWRP.
I did not enter any password, face unlock, pattern or sign in to google....nothing of the sort. As soon as I opened the phone from the box tried to install TWRP knowing it will erase everything after TWRP installation. I really hate Samsung UI and wanted to try Lineage OS or another custom ROM which is not laggy like ONE UI.
After installing TWRP the phone became very laggy (obviously I did not perform a format data...my bad) I did use Odin and flashed the corresponding firmware of the phone and it did that successfully.
I tried to give TWRP another shot by flashing it again but I was getting a FAIL in Odin with the following error: Can't open the specified file (line: 1892)
After this I tried to flash again the same Samsung firmware but kept getting the same FAIL and the same error: Can't open the specified file (line: 1892)
I have tried all versions of Odin but the same FAIL and same error.
Now I can't even get into Download mode or Samsung recovery mode.
I press Volume Up + Volume Down and insert the micro USB cable....the phone takes at least 10 seconds to power up (Samsung logo) and then I see a blue screen with Android robot trying to perform an Erase and then fails and the phone powers off immediately.
As soon as I get the phone I will check your link on XDA and try a GSI ROM.
Which one do you recommend...this is a work phone, all I care about is speed and fluidity and it has to be a daily driver.

What you're describing are symptoms of a flat battery and a direct boot to recovery.
To boot to download mode plug in the USB cable first then hold vol up, vol down and power until download mode appears.
There is absolutely no way TWRP caused the lag. TWRP runs in its own minimal OS environment and has no effect on a booted android OS whatsoever.
Lastly your device wasn't hard bricked, a device that powers on even if it doesn't boot is only soft bricked.
Usually recoverable using the right procedure.

I will try and install TWRP.
When these strange things happened the device had over 80% battery...at least that's what it showed on screen.
Now I see that indeed it was flat 0% and you were right to point out that this is a flat battery problem.

It's correct, but if you want access to the data partition in twrp you need to also install the encryption patch.
You will also need to either install magisk or some other patch that disables dmverity.

TWRP on samsung tab a GT-P5110

Hi there,
I am trying to install an unofficial LineageOS V 13.0 to this tablet
I got some issues with TWRP, i followed some instruction videos.
I downloaded TWRP for the tablet : https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxytab2wifiunified.html
I opened odin and i went to the odin screen on the tablet ( power + vol - ) I Selected the .tar file at the AP section of Odin.
The installation was succesfull.
Now for entering the TWRP , ihave to press power + volume + buttom right? If i do that i get the boot screen from the tablet and i enter the android recovery ( the android on hes back, belly open with a red ! inside ) But it won't boot TWRP.
Any suggestions?

Bricked it???
Ok, so I installed the twrp311-20180416-BIGSYS.zip onto my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5110. Since reboot back into recovery, the tablet has effectively bricked completely... doesn't turn on at all. It had 70+% power at time of install but nothing doing. It doesn't even register that it's plugged into the charger (ie no charging indicators). Have I truly bricked this old bad boy???
Any direction or help towards a fix greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bigsys.zip?
You sure you used the right recovery for your variant?
If not you might have bricked your tablet... Some other devices have a different partition layout (e.g recovery partition where we have our efs partition) which could brick a device if it's not made for that device.
For p31xx and p51xx you can get twrp also as .tar.md5 for Odin here: http://andi34.github.io/recoveries_tab2.html

Question No Download Mode - bricked S21+

Hi,
I've managed to brick my S21+, after a mistake during flashing of a newer twrp version with Odin.
I basically placed the (patched) stock AP file in the AP slot instead of the TWRP tar, and the vbmeta_disabled_R.tar in the userdata slot.
After reboot, I got a boot loop, and I am not able to boot to recovery or to download mode as before when using the key-combo.
Previous to this flashing, I had the TWRP 3.6 and Lineageos 19 GSI for about 6 months, with no issues.
My question - how can I get to Download mode now? and is it possible that I ran over my recovery?
Is it possible that the download mode is no longer available due to the AP flashing (no BL, CSC files)?
Appreciate any suggestion and help!
connect it to the PC and do the combination that you did before, that is volume up and volume down pressed at the same time, that same thing happened to me, when I wanted to update twrp better install the stock first and then the new recovery, so you take advantage of updating the firmware of the phone and the new recovery
Strangely, the recovery entry or download does not work without being connected, so I recommend you better install the magisk to enter the recovery from there, otherwise you will have to do that process when you want to update or install custom roms

Thanks for your reply!
the key-combo in S21x are with USB plugged to PC, otherwise recovery cannot be reached, unless using ADB command. I have tried this many times since the wrong Odin flash occurred, but nothing happens except from reboot, warning screen (about unofficial software) and reboot again.
Even previous to the bricking, typically in order to get to download mode in this device, you need to go through recovery first and then select download mode. Alternatively, adb reboot download command, but neither are now an option.
So my last resort was a USB-JIG device to get to download mode - but I don't know of any such device for a USB-C connection.
Anyone here has experience with that? or can direct me to such a device for the newer Samsung models?
Thanks!

Thanks for your help! - indeed the PLUS and MINUS volume keys with the usb cable plugged in gets you directly to d/l mode. I just tried it with the power key all the time, as in previous models, and that got me nothing.
Issue solved!

[SOLVED] TWRP not booting

I've been trying to flash TWRP onto my Galaxy S3 and my Galaxy S9 for a few days now, and every time I try to do so, it flashes successfully, but then boots into stock Samsung recovery when entering recovery mode. I've used Odin on Windows and Heimdall on Linux, but both have the same issue. I tried different versions of TWRP as well.
If it helps, I'm pretty sure both phones are OEM unlocked. The S9 has the option in developer options, and says it it unlocked in download mode. The S3 doesn't have any option for this, and doesn't say anything in download mode about it.
Even though the S3 might not be OEM unlocked, it still doesn't explain the issue with the S9.
I'm also dual booting, so all attempts were from the same computer. It might be some issue with my computer, but I really don't have access to another one right now, so I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas or thoughts on the issue. Any help would be appreciated.
Did you check this?
Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install.

I think for S3 it's
Vol up + Home + Power
Basically:
1. Flashing
2. Reboot into Recovery by keep pressing Vol up + Home + Power
3. Allow TWRP to become permanent
Perhaps you want to check/re-ask here as well:

Holding the given buttons just brings me to default recovery, so I'm not sure what the proper recovery is. I've also tried Volume Up + Down + Home + Power.
Hmm, didn't flash an S3 for quite some time but I vaguely remember that I had similar problems during
"After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted"
and often missed or was too clumsy, too late or both
Would in fastboot the command
fastboot reboot recovery
work for you? Or does it still end up in stock recovery?
Perhaps it's really time to check in the s3 threads for further advice?

Hmm, didn't flash an S3 for quite some time but I vaguely remember that I had similar problems during
"After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted"
and often missed or was too clumsy, too late or both
Would in fastboot the command
fastboot reboot recovery
work for you? Or does it still end up in stock recovery?

Okay so turns out I needed to boot into recovery immediately after flashing TWRP on both phones because when booting into the system, the recovery is replaced. After doing this, everything worked fine and I was able to get custom ROMs working! I appreciate your help though

Phone keeps booting into TWRP

So, I flashed my samsung a10s with an unofficial twrp posted, and everything went fine.
But when I tried to flash a GSI (I tried lineage, and the AOSP ones), everytime I reboot it brings me to the recovery menu. I cannot boot into download mode or anything, it straight up puts me into TWRP.
I do seem to get a `invalid argument /metadata` sort of error
Any idea how to fix this?

First, flash stock rom.
Then install twrp, do a wipe and a factory reset. Install GSi image but do not reboot to system. Turn of the phone and boot to recovery again. Then do a wipe and reboot to system.
Do not enter to recovery again, idk why but entering recovery breaks the rom.

I tried both the power combinations and the TWRP reboot into recovery, they both did not work.

U can't enter Download mode with the power button. Power off the phone. Hold vol up and vol down then plug it into a pc. Do not release vol buttons until blue download screen appears.
