I have a Samsung Tab S3 tablet LDU, which identifies itself as an SM-T820. It's running Android 7.0. There is an official Android 9 Pie update for my region, but as I have a Wifi only model and no carrier I was never offered an OTA.
I'm thinking about flashing it but I don't know whether it's likely to brick my tablet, as it's an LDU.
Is there any way to test or know what the chances of success are when attempting to flash an LDU with official firmware for non-LDU models?
Before I proceed, what is the easiest way to fully backup my phone's firmware in 2022, in case flashing goes wrong?

Hi all
A week ago a rooted my Samsung Galaxy S6 device following this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/root-pingpongroot-s6-root-tool-t3103016
All was OK. At that point my device is using the Android Version: 5.0.2
The question I have is that now the version 5.1.1 (Lillipop) has been released, I would like to know if my rooted device can still be upgrading when the new version is released in my region (Mexico) by the phone provider. (Telcel). In case it cannot be updated automatically, I guess I will need to do it manually or unroot my device. In that scenario, Does someone know a good tutorial how to do that?
Regards!
@LesthadMK, sure you can update rooted devices. But it may not be possible via OTA update. You will have to download the full firmware and install it manually.
Because root makes changes to system partition, OTA fails when you have rooted. If you unroot and flash stock recovery and kernel back, then OTA may work. Otherwise, simply flash the full firmware, in .tar format using Odin software, and you're good.
It's good to have full firmware saved on PC anyway, as if in case you brick your device, you can fix it by installing your device's firmware manually.
If you need help with 5.1.1 firmware installation on your s6, let me know the build no. of your device.. I will guide you to page you need to look at.
Thanks for the help. I have download Odin in case I need to do it manually.
Also, mentioned that yesterday I read an article saying that using the Samsung software "Smart Switch" in an rooted device will upgrade the device to the newest version (which I don't know if it it's true or not) Any way this is the link I found:.... Well seems since I'm newby I cannot post some external links. So just google it as: How to Use Smart Switch to Update Your Galaxy S6—Even It's Rooted.
By other hand, this is the build number for my device: G920IDVU1AOE3, so if you can help me to know how to upgrade that version that would be very helpful
Regards!
Hey guys. I was wondering, what is the process for android firmware updates? By this I mean, when I owned an iPhone (any model) after I updated the firmware there seemed to be remnants of the old firmware version and it would cause issues through the phone, at which point I would have to go on my computer, restore to the newest firmware essentially formatting the phone and re-uploading the new firmware on the phone. After that all was fine. Is this necessary on android in order to get a new, clean version of the firmware on the phone or does the update process do this throughout the installation? I haven't had any issues yet with the newest AT&T Nougat update, but I was just thinking about this and figured I'd ask before anything did happen, if it's like my old iPhones...
BTW, I'm on AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 with Nougat 7.0
I recently bought a new unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 to use on AT&T. It is running on Android 6.0.1. There is no OTA update coming to my phone. I've downloaded Samsung Smart Switch to my PC and it states the my phone is up to date. Obviously it is not, since it is still running on Marshmallow. I figured out that the phone was originally set up for Sprint, as the model says SM-G930P on Smart Switch. The model number under About Phone states SM-G930a, and is running baseband G930aucs4apk1, csc code ATT. I have verified it is a brand new phone, never rooted. Samsung suggested I go the Best Buy to have the phone updated there. However, the closest Best Buy is 90 miles away and said they do not do the updates in store. I am resisting using Odin to do the update, as I don't have experience doing this. But at this point I'm thinking this is the only option. So far I have downloaded Odin 3.13.1 patched and Samsung drivers to my PC. Can I go directly from Android 6.0.1 to 8.0 without having to install Nougat? Which Oreo firmware do I need for my particular S7? Is it possible/easier to update my phone by installing the firmware using my phone's sd card instead of Odin? I am only wanting to update a stock version without rooting. Thanks for any insight.
So I left the Galaxy phone for a while and last time i rooted was back when I had the S7 Edge for a while, but I recently got a S8+ on Nougat version, I know the newer Oreo firmware are unable to root, but I'm not sure if the Nougat version I'm on is able to be rooted, I'm currently on build QL1, but looking online, I get near no info or not any info at all about this particular firmware (Sammobile doesn't even have this firmware on ATT.) So I wanted to see if this particular build is rootable or is it just basically best to avoid rooting at this point.
For various reasons I'm back using this S8+, and it's still pretty good, but it's still running Android 7.
I'm in the EU so OTA updates don't work.
Can I switch from an AT&T firmware to an unbranded one and thereby upgrade to Android 9 using OTA? If this is possible, can someone explain in simple terms how to do it?
