I use Firefox for this, but you can probably do the same thing with other browsers.
Install Firefox(or other browser). Open it, go to YouTube page, tap the browser's menu button then choose the "desktop site" setting, find your video you want to play, play it then go to home or whatever app you want to use, it should continue to play in the background, it will even continue to play with the screen off.

It works just fine for me, I haven't found any pages that don't work this way. The key is using the "desktop site" setting and making sure every page loads in "desktop site" format.
You could also do a Google search for:
"Play youtube in background on android"
That will give you links to a variety of ways to achieve this.

I use via and couldt do it. (Also for youtube).
And the other thing; I am looking for a browser 'cause the desktop mode is not completely solution.
While listening to something, I often open another tab and look at something else.
Now; I can do it only on Brave (I am not sure, maybe Bromite too). But but it consumes more battery and ram.
My Eng is not good. I hope İ can tell what I want to tell.
Thank you.

[APP] Choose Browser - Share a link from any app, and choose a browser to open it in

hello xda. here's a new app i whipped up this afternoon. sometimes i'll be viewing a web page in a browser, and i decide i want to open it in a different browser. maybe the page looks funny in this browser, or it has video in it, and i want to use skyfire to watch it. how do you open a page you're already viewing in another browser? well, you could copy and paste the url, but that's more work than it should be.
now you can use Choose Browser. if you "share" a page or link from any app, you can select Choose Browser, then you will be presented with a list of installed browsers. see the screenshot. you can share a link from one browser to another. you can share a link from, say, your RSS reader, and choose which browser to open it in. you get the idea. it's nothing fancy, but it saves you a few steps.
the app should work on any version of android. it's free, with no ads. please test it and post feedback.
Great idea, works fine for me.

Choose Browser is now available in the Android Market!

App Associations

Okay on my Rezound running an ICS leak, in the setting section under Apps there is a setting called App Associations.
And in this setting there is something called Web URLS, that lets you set the intent of clicking on web URLS to your browser of choice. Now this setting has the browsers that are installed as choices. But the major problem is that this setting now opens all YouTube links and Play store links with the browser, not the YouTube app or Play Store and doesn't give a choice in the matter.
My question is that is this limited to the Rezound? I don't have these setting choices on my Xoom, but that is running 4.0.0 and I haven't updated it in a while.
Also, how do I get the app to open links? Reseting the default in the app setting for the browser doesn't do anything, it seems as though App Associations takes over for that.
Anybody?
Am I going crazy>?
I don't know the specifics of your phone, but you might try a trick I've used with other apps on other phones (okay, with one app on one phone).
Start off by configuring it to use the youtube player (or whatever site-specific app you want) for web url's. Then launch a link that's not supported by youtube. If you're lucky, it'll come up with a prompt saying 'that's not supported, what app do you want to use instead?'. At that prompt, you'd select the app you want to use for non youtube pages.
Disclaimer: I'm a noob myself with smartphones/tablets, so all of my advice is nothing more than logic-guided guesswork.

[APP][2.1+] Youtube App directly from Facebook posts without loading browser

Makes it much faster and better when viewing Youtube videos from Facebook now. Currently, when you open Youtube videos from Facebook app, you have to wait for a web browser to load, and then re-direct you to the Youtube app. All of this is history. This application will allow you to bypass the slow loading of browser and open the Youtube app directly for you!
The application also work with other kind of links posted in Facebook such us Box, Dropbox, Google Play and so on!
To make it run:
- Install FacebookLinks
- In Facebook app, open any youtube video.
- "Complete this action using" dialog is opened, choose Facebook Links, and tap on "Always"
- Choose Youtube from the second Dialog... and Tap Always
Enjoy!
EDIT:
Google Play Link

Not sure if I understand what do you mean?
If you mean links of other apps like Box, Google Play and so on, then yes, this app allow you to open them directly without opening web browser

The application fixes all other links in facebook posts, and even the normal web pages will be opened directly in the browser without being redirected from facebook.com
The application also save you from browser full of facebook redirect tabs... which open the Youtube app whenever you opened it!
This app totally need more recognition.

Browsers forcing Youtube app

Both Firefox and Chrome load the Google Youtube app straight away when I click on a link to a youtube video, I want to be able to choose what app. I can't find Youtube or the browsers in "Default applications". I have a Samsung Galaxy S5. My friend also has the same phone but he gets promoted to choose which app to use. Help?
Maybe this app will help: hxxps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appiator.defaultappmanager
Thank you, Youtube is visible in the "ALL DEFAULTS" section but when I press clear it takes me to the youtube app in the built-in "App info" and "Clear defaults" is greyed out and it says "No defaults set"

Ok, now I saw that I had the same problem with youtube in nexus 6. Try to open that site with link to youtube in computer view in chrome.
Thanks, that works... Is there some option to make it do it in mobile view?

I don't know. I found this answer: hxxp://android.stackexchange.com/questions/37549/force-link-to-open-in-app-not-my-default-browser
So i think it It depends on the app.
EDIT: This is very annoying and I found another way you have to download add-on in firefox called: "Open Native App" and when you click the link to youtube firefox open it in m.youtube.com and now you can open navigation menu and choose the last option "Open in native app" I haven't any solution in chrome.
I don't know why but only some videos do it, if I Google "lorde youtube" the links are like they should be...

How can I un-app-ify a website on Chrome for Android?

Hi folks...
So some websites do things to Chrome on Android that I don't like.
In particular:
1. Some sites, when launched from a link on the Home Screen, launch into a mode without any browser controls
2. Some sites don't let me add a link to the Home Screen, but only let me run it "as an app"
Is there any way around these sorts of things?
That is, I want to add a link to the Home Screen that will ALWAYS launch in full browser mode.
Or I want to add a link to the Home Screen for sites that seem to force Chrome to favor running "as an app".
Some news sites I frequent do the 1st thing.
outlook.com (which I use for work) does the 2nd thing.
I'd like them to behave like regular websites, and launch in full browser mode in Chrome from a Home Screen icon/link. Is there any way to force this, does anyone know?
If I'm using the wrong terminology, please let me know. I'm not sure if these sites are running a Chrome App, or an Instant App, or somehow otherwise force Chrome to behave differently.
Thanks much!
- Tim
