hello everyone,
was curious as to how Verizon's data/voice network works in regard to the handset that is consuming the service. I have a phone that has a sim card for LTE, and without the SIM it cannot make voice calls, however I also have a samsung fascinate with android 4.2 that is 3g so no SIM. I was curious as to if I could activate the fascinate and use it for voice calls, but the data would still work on the other handset.
I'm sure Verizon would notice if i was consuming data on two devices, so i would disable data on the fascinate and just use wifi, however, because the voice and data are on two different bands ( from what i understand, two completely different networks), is it possible that I could separate the phone and data onto two different devices using the touch-tone activation method?
Just curious
I'm currently using two 3G enabled Sims in my Galaxy Core GT-i8262.
My Sole purpose of getting the Sim 2 was to use 3G Data/Internet on it, while using Sim 1 for Calling and texting only.
I went for Galaxy Core only because i have to use Voice and Data on 2 different Sims separately.
Therefore , i inserted the Sim 2, Went into Sim Manager > Enabled both Sim > Dual Sim Active
I also enabled "Receive incoming calls via Other Sim card while using Data service" in Both Sim 1 & Sim 2.
But when i selected this setting i received a popup "This might slow down the data transmission"
>Also i have Set Data as "Sim 2" in Sim 1, (So only Sim 2 will ne used for Data)
And Sim 1 as GSM Only while Sim 2 as WCDMA Only
But still, when i'm on a call in Sim 1, i can't use the 3G service of Sim 2 simultaneously. Only after disconnecting the call, Sim 2 3G Data starts working,
So the whole purpose of using Dual Sim goes wast when we can't use 3G internet on one sim while on call in the other.
Can anyone suggest how to enable this feature and also to avoid the "The slow data transmission" due to Dual Active Sim.. Otherwise this phone is just a piece of trash as i'll be on call most of the time and i won't be able to check my mail or Whatsapp msgs.
Please.. Anyone reply..
Ask this to samsung CEO he cannot answer that:sly:
Sent from my GT-I8262 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
While u r on a call on Sim 1 you cannot use the data connection from the Sim 2 even if its on WCDMA. But u can use 3G on the same sim on which the call is being recieved or done ...means Sim 1 can be used for both purpose simultaneously for Calling & Data connection on WCDMA ...even if u r on a call on sim 1 the data connection wont be lost...
hi! i'm not shure if i understand
i want to purchase this phone and i'm not shure if i can use in one sim voice over 3G and in the other one data over 3g.
I don't want to use voice and data in the same time...
Please help me
nobody can help me?
Hi Luciand, are you from Brazil?
My guess is that it is impossible to use voice on SIM 1 and data on SIM 2 because the smartphone have only one modem.
Even if it is capable of receiving calls on both SIM 1 or SIM 2, it is not possible to actively use the two SIMs at the same time.
For some smartphone to be capable of doing what you want, it should have two modems, which I believe would increase its cost and nobody would buy it...
I hope this helps, and if anyone knows better, please correct me!

You are able to select which SIMs data service the phone uses in the sim card manager under Data service network. However, you cannot use voice and data at the same time, regardless of which sim is set to be used for voice or data (at least here in the US on EDGE network.)
i have two 4G sim cards
when i make a phone call on my secondary sim (i.e. the one that is not used for data connection), i lose my data connection on the primary sim.
is this the normal behaviour?
Yes that's normal.
Unfortunately, all dual-sim phones today are dual stand-by which means that they only have one modem and only one sim can be active at a time. In dual stand-by, if one sim receives a call, the other is disabled automatically till the phone call is ended.
What you are asking about is called dual-active which means both sims can be active simultaneously and can receive calls and data on both sims at the same time, which requires the phone to have dual modems. The last phone that had dual modems was the Huawei Mate 8. Today, unfortunately, they don't make dual modems anymore. I don't know if it's due to health reasons or some regulatory restrictions.
For those on dual sim, does data on the secondary sim ever get used. In Sim Card Mgr there is a toggle to use it during a phone call but other than that , say my primary data sim is poor, I wish it would use the one with the better connection automatically but I do not think this is an option

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note, SM-N986B/DS.
No, my experience is, you can't set data usage to automatically,
But why don't you just choose Sim2, for data usage.?
While back i had 2 x Sims in my device.
(One Sim is a just a data Sim, loaded with 10 gigs data each month )
The other Sim only had 1 gig data on it, each month .)
I set my preferences as follow in Sim Manager ......
Calls.... Sim 1
SMS.... Sim1
Data ( mobile)... Sim 2
Worked fine.
No issues.
If i switched my mobile data on it would
use Sim 2 data.
However,
I have since changed my setup.
Took second Sim out of phone,
as i experience
"more battery drain" (overnight )
than when i was using
only one sim and/or sd card.
Good luck.

I have unlimited data with Visible on sim1. I have 2gb of T-Mobile on sim2. If I'm in a spot whereb Visible sucks, I want to switch to sim2
data

Yes ,it's was just the opposite situation for me ,where i had more data on Sim 2 .
However, overall i guess it never worried me, as i am 90% on wifi .
I also noticed ,more battery use age of keeping mobile data on ,than wifi.
I guess the only option left ,would be to manually, change to preferred data Sim .
As far as i can remember the best option ,
( when i had 2 Sims in my phone )
i would swipe down to expand phone quick settings
and my Sim preferences , showed ,just under the phone ,quick settings icons .
I would then long press on the preferred data Sim choice and change it there.
It was better than going all the way to Sim Manager .
Good luck

Hmmm, the battery thing is interesting. I've tried so hard to get dual sim, flashing TMB onto Unlocked but now the battery thing is a bummer. If that is what causing it. I just turned off 120 refresh rate to see if that improves battery
In Quick Settings I see where I can click on one of the sims on the top and it takes me to the sim card menu but I wish it were just a toggle instead of taking to the menu

Firstly,
Yes, only thing you can do
is "toggle" it manually, like you described.
Secondly,
with 2 x Sims in my phone
i found that my average "sleep" over night
was example......
+- 12 % battery drainage, over period of +-8/10 hours (sleep.)
Further the way i see it,
is that even with phone in
sleep mode, it still trying to get better signal reception.... x 2...? whilst
This i checked via Betterbattery app.
Secondly,
I am back on one sim.
My average sleep overnight is
8 % for 10/12 hours sleep.!
Bottom line,
It's your phone.
That battery diffs, is no big deal...
For me it was an irritating issue. thats all
If you happy with 2x sims
keep it that way!
Good luck

Previously, say I had Sim 1 for data and Sim 2 for calls and i got a call on Sim 2, then Sim 1 was unable to access data but this has now changed with N20U
If I understood this correctly then I think my device is different cos regardless of which Sim is primary or secondary, I have an option under settings>connections>mobile networks> allow all Sims to use data in calls, which I can toggle on or off. I have found selecting this allows the other sim to use data which was not possible in some earlier android versions.

But not when I'm in a call. I needed to use data from my secondary sim because I was in a dead spot for first sim. I had to go to sim card menu in settings and change primary sim and then change it back eventually. I did use the shortcut from the pull down menu but I wish I had a toggle , ideally from Nova Launcher
I am interested to purchase a SM-N986B DS for my dual sim work/personal cell in the US near NYC. I have metro PCS and Verizon. Will this phone allow verizon to operate as the second sim? It would be a non-data sim. I know it is a GSM phone and not CDMA but also read that the LTE bands may be compatible at 4g/5g. Curious before I take the dip to buy and find out it won't work...
I have an unlocked S22U (purchased directly from Samsung) and I am trying to get dual sim set up. I have an eSIM setup currently which is functioning as expected. I get calls, messages, and 5G no problem. I have a physical SIM which also works fine; calls, messages, 5G. However, they only work if I disable one at a time. With both SIMs inserted, I only get 4G data out of the physical SIM and no data at all from the eSIM. If I set the eSIM as my primary SIM, it acts like I have no data at all.
I honestly have no idea what to think, does anyone have any input?
eSIM - Mint
Physical Sim - Visible
It sounds like a settings issue. Look under connections / mobile networks / network mode. Are they both on 5g? Also are you dual SIM both active in sim card settings?
