I'm thinking of installing a tab into my car similar to this post
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2434390
and I was thinking since I'll never be using the camera, what about setting it up so that the camera is actually a backup camera. And the only way I could think of doing this is by taking the existing camera and extending the cabling (probably pay someone to do some soldering since my hands shake like I'm on crack when doing precision things) to a 10' run. Would I probably get too much noise?
Also is there a rom/app that has a nice car home screen? I remember my T-Mobile galaxy S Vibrant used to have a nice car mode.
I've seen the info on the "Tasker" app and I was wondering if it allow multiple if statements ie
if plugged in and current time <5 pm then max brightness
if plugged in and current time >=5pm than min brightness
if not plugged in than screen off
although if the car mode is good enough I wouldn't need the time constraint.
Thanks,
Richard
Or is the cabling just too tiny/many to ever extend?
So I was planing on waiting for the new gear to be announced, and was dissapointed by the Gear S since I mostly am using things like the camera and the IR blaster , on my galaxy note tablet, as well as the camera on the galaxy s3 . As far as I know the gear S drops the camera and the IR , i really dont care about the Sim card, as I dont need another number , or phone plan. The GPS is a nice addition though
I was just wondering to ask , is it worth getting the gear2? Are there any apps coming out ? Is there a library of apps? Any way to get a GPS navigation working on the gear2? As far as the reviews go the gear battery holds about 2-3 days , is this true? Anything I should know about? Or should I just wait for the next big thing to come along?

I have a gear2neo then upgraded to Gear2 for the camera (or was it a downgrade LOL) any who, i'm also looking at the Gear S with its phone functionality and GPS, works handy since i'm using Tab S and wont be able to pull it out every time.
to answer your query since I'm also looking for those exact things:
there's a lot of apps in the gear store that I find useful
1) fleksy - you could read/compose/reply to SMS using its advance auto-correct feature, and yeah, it's free
2) camera - for those quick shots, simply launch - aim - shoot. 2mega pixel and auto focus, /15sec video clip @ 720P. you could change focus mode and resolution to your liking
3) Gear Navigation - yep, pair it with your phone for that james bond GPS navigation. quick and easy.. and FREE!! requires data connection.
4) vrecord/camera - use to control your tablet/phones camera and use the Gear 2 as view finder. works for both front and back camera
for the battery, I managed to squeeze out 2 full days, with brightness set at 2 (out of 4) and with the auto-on (your natural gesture when looking at the watch) bluetooth always on. it could last longer if you turn the bluetooth off if you're away from your device and turning the auto-on off and use the home button instead, to wake it up.
if you have the extra dough, this baby is worth it (underwater cam anyone?). but still, up to you to decide
good luck mate
Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Elephone S8, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Elephone S8 is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
too much problem
I have no problems at all:
Fast speed (I don't play games)
64gb is enough for me (10gb in use)
4gb is enough for me
Usb-c audio jack adapter works well
YouTube works (I don't use Netflix)
I don't use Facebook (Facebook playback issue)
Camera works well with "Google camera app" ver. 7.0
Screen and body is perfect designed
Weight is normal
Finger sensor is fast
Operation system is clean
GPS works well with only GPS (don't use 4G/3G for navigation)
Listen Music over Bluetooth, it's important to first connect the device and then restart the music app
Wish a nice day
Much the same situation. S8 is my third and last Elephone. My S7 was fine and still is after passing on to my wife. I wanted the big 2K screen and the 21MP camera. I got the big beautiful display but basically a useless camera. The S8 is now my mini tablet used for web browsing, ebook reader, email and occasional Youtube and it works fine for that. I gave up on it as a carry around phone after trying to take a video of a baby turtle release while on vacation in Mexico, a "once in a lifetime experience". Unwatchable with the continual hunting for focus. I have replaced it as a phone with a 5 inch screen, Helio X20, 3GB, 32GB (with a 128GB SD card) Kodak phone and a 21 megapixel camera that actually works ! It is very disappointing that Elephone has not tried to fix the camera bug since last October and I doubt that an Oreo upgrade is at the top of anyone's list. I have not tried Google Camera 7.0 and will not bother because I have my very good replacement. Shame because I could have bought a very good 7 inch tablet for less money to do the same thing.
I have to say this phone has exceeded my expectations in every way.
* Battery life is amazing once you remove the spyware. 2-3 days of normal use for me, and that's with Life-360 on all the time. No idea how much SOT but I'd guess double my old Oneplus One..
* That screen .... I never get tired of it. Really the design as a whole is far above what I was expecting in a cheap phone.
* Fingerprint sensor is super fast and reliable
* The OS seems solid as a rock. I've seen no problems with calls, wifi or bluetooth, and it hasn't crashed on me once.
As for the supposed cons:
* No notification LED is no problem - just configure the NoLED app and it's brilliant.
* Likewise the camera seems fine on mine. I used Open Camera for a few minutes and it seems just the same as my old Oneplus.
* I don't see any of the video sync issues people talk about either. I don't use netflix so maybe that's still broken but ... look, it's 2018, get yourself a VPN and live free.
* If you're into action games the decacore CPU sucks down juice like there's no tomorrow. In fact, no today. But I don't play action games. A little Monument Valley 2 on the way to sleep maybe.
I expect this will be my daily driver for at least the next 2 years. Loving it.

How did you remove the Spyware?
I'm guessing you rooted your phone but your still using stock rom?
No need to root the phone, just install ADB and then https://forum.xda-developers.com/elephone-s8/how-to/beware-com-adups-fota-myapplication-t3741622

Does anyone screen suffer from bright spots that is more noticeable on white backgrounds?
The only problem I have is the WiFi.
I have a 50 mb connection. Near the router it's ok. But move any bit away and it's so slow. In the kitchen, I get 0mb. It's so frustrating.
On all of the other phones in the house, they have perfect wifi.
Is there any fix for this?
Other than this, the phone is really good
Hi all !
In my hands now OP7 PRO which has been regulary updated and after recent update both cameras stopped working, youtube too !
So, had it downgraded to 9.5.3. and back camera and youtube back again but front camera not (so not even motor poping out)
Tried clean flash with fastboot rom but all the same
Done camera test through *#808# with no success, tried camera motor test, calibration too and no joy.
So before I order any parts just wonder whats the logic behind motorised cameras:
will motor pop out if camera is dead or other way round if motor is dead will that cause software block to launch camera (when you want to switch from back to front camera you getting nothing). ! Ready to order camera or motor but not sure whats actually gone !
Any experience, opinions about this Oneplus issue that seems affect many
Thanks
Got the exact same scenario as you but yet no solution.
Still looking for some answers online everyday though ..
Hi !
Done few tests so far, prove that motor/actuator is working and it must be the camera. Orderd camera yesterday and with a luck should get it in 30 days.
Funny thing about it that once I had Oneplus 5 with exact same issue, ordered new back camera, installed it and all back working than was curious and returned old one and the old one back working too
Conclusion ? No explanation by now.
Update: new camera arrived, installed and all back working !!
I have a samsung note 10+ that have problems with the 0.5x sensor camera (ultra wide sensor) to be more specific. I already order 2 new sensors OEM to replace the faulty one but i always get the same result. I re-install the room with odin but nothing happened. I give up because probably its an issue with the board and I don’t have the tools to fix it by myself. So now im basically looking a way to restrict the 0.5x sensor with root access or a custom room that only let me use the other 2 sensors.
Order used phone with a broken display for cheap and replace board. This worked for me with a mic issue that official service cannot repair...
