I have decided its time to root my device. How do I go about this for the G970U1 Snapdragon model? All the guides I've found only cover the other CPU model. Is it even possible? I can't find the OEM/Bootloader unlock option in dev options. I probably shouldn't have waited this long...
Hi, for what i know, it depends on your current firmware version installed. Past march 2021 patches should not let you unlock the bootloader and with that gain control of root or change os. I am waiting for someghing to happen too like android 12 and oneui 4
As of 3-7-22 Lapsus$ stole exploitable data from samsung and released it. This data included snapdragon CPU data and most likely includes information on how to unlock the latest u6 bootloader.
I have s10e US g970u1 model on the aug 1st 2021 security update. So U6 bootloader. As far as i understand there is no unlock/root unless you have the u3 bootloader or lower.
We will have to continue to wait for the lapsus$ data to be exploited for root purposes as I think that is the best we will get.
Reading other topics its very confusing, there are a lot of u3 bootloader unlocking and rooting and then the rest on later bootloaders being unsuccessful. U7 bootloader is about to be released for the s10e and will likely patch the code in u6 that was released by Lapsus$. so dont update.

I have a regular Sprint S7 (SM-G930P). I just updated to nrd90m.g930pvpu6brd2 and I want to go back to the previous version. Is it possible to do without rooting? Is there a way to root without losing all the data on my phone? I would like to use the version just before the March 2017 security update.
Thank You
You cannot flash lower firmware even with root because your bootloader has been updated, cannot downgrade anymore
Even though they are both 7.0 roms? Has the bootloader been unlocked yet?
Bootloader remains locked for all snapdragon models. You should be able to side step in version, but not go back. Even though it's all still android 7.0, bootloader versions continue to update, so there's several for 7.0.
I figured that. I would like to remove the security patch that messed with mock locations. Thank you
I was curious about if there is ever going to be root for the s8 Snapdragon varient for Oreo.
I saw this thread
https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum....e-oreo-root-japanese-snapdragon-t3830039/amp/
If the Japanese Snapdragon bootloader can be exploited. Maybe in the future, the g950u/g955u can be rooted too?
If someone has information regarding this and knows developers who are working on this? I know that you can install safestrap on Oreo because of me1212(sorry if I spelled his name wrong) and partcyborg and other developers.
THIS THREAD IF FOR DISCUSSION AS IT SAYS IN THE TITLE. IT IS FOR DISCUSSING AND LETTING PEOPLE KNOW INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR SNAPDRAGON S8. Thanks for participating.
No. We use a exploitable nougat kernel. That samsung graciously left us open. The bootloader this day in age and is not exploitable to unlock. Specially on Oreo.
New exploits come along everyday so maybe one day. But not anytime soon. Me and several other look everyday for something possibly missed. But until some new major samsung bootloader exploit comes along which brings me to another point.
This day in age it's almost more worth it to only disclose any such exploits to samsung for nice payment.
The only known way as of now to unlock a U.S. bootloader in a engineering certificate which is branded by cpid to each device individually which means my cert will not work on your device. If not properly backed up mind you. Leaving you with a unusable device in several different ways. I know from first hand experience.
R.I.P My G950U oreo no root (T_T)
Does all this mean I can't root my G950U?

One last question.
I read that the Nougat firmware with Bootloader B1 can be rooted.
If I downgrade my G950u to Android 7, can I be able to root and flash Pie ROMs.?

You cant downgrade the bootloader. But there is this.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/development/root-t3904613
This allows safestrap on Oreo or pie. Which then you can flash the eng boot v5 which is a nougat bootloader but bit 5 then you can install su and a rev1 or 2 nougat system image. It sounds hard but really not bad. But the bootloader rev must remain that of 5
My employer recently restricted access to Android devices running anything less than SPL 2019-08-05 and since Samsung does not seem to have the ability to deploy patches in a timely manner I'm looking for options.
Is there a way to sideload a security patch?
Is there a custom rom that I can install that won't torch Knox and render my device non-compliant anyway?
Is there a good place to sell my 10e so I can buy a Pixel 3?
1. Getting the patch. If you have the 970U1 or 970F, there is already firmware with the August update released. With the 970F, you might have to get a different country's firmware while the 970U1 seemingly will go to August with a manual update check. If you have a 970U (US carrier model), look into ways to get the U1 firmware loaded (you may need to get sim-unlocked first). None of the carriers are past July.
2. No. Custom roms are only for the 970F and involve rooting and breaking knox.
3. I use swappa. Fees are about $15 at the ~450 USD price point you'd get. You may find the P3 a step down after the S10e

I have 970U1 with the current August patch but it is showing a patch level of August 1, not the Aug 5 mandated by my company's MDM app.

Greetings @jhavron. Very sorry for such a belated reply to your inquiry for info. I just ran across your post.
Like most AT&T, Verizon & TracFone (Straight Talk & Net10) branded Motorola devices, the XT2005DL is not supported by Motorola's bootloader unlocking protocol. As such, rooting, TWRP, Magisk, etc., are not possible. Anybody familiar with Motorola devices can confirm that devices with perma-locked bootloaders are as tough as Fort Knox when it comes to security -- especially Moto devices manufactured from 2015 to the present. For example, the Verizon Moto E (2nd Gen) LTE from 2015 cannot be bootloader unlocked. Now, over 5 years later, there is still no known method for the xt1528 device. Such is also the case with the XT2005DL: its locked down status will prevent any type of rooting methods or custom recovery flashes from working.
I wish my news could be more favorable.
Thanks for replying. I's good to know that someone reads the posts from the little guys. :good:

Ok well is it possible to flash stock firmware onto the moto e6 xt2005dl with a locked bootloader. I keep getting image primary_gpt failed validation. I thought stock firmware could be flashed onto any device with locked bootloader.

Again, sorry for such a belated reply. Yes, you are correct. Regardless of bootloader locked/unlocked state, you can flash your device with the official stock firmware package using fastboot mode, RSD-Lite, or the Lenovo-Moto Smart Rescue utility. There is but one rule of thumb to keep in mind: you can flash only a firmware package that is the same or a newer version than the version presently on your device. A locked bootloader will not allow you to downgrade firmware versions.
Official Motorola stock firmware packages for the XT2005DL (Codename: surfna) are available from this link. Again, it is recommended that you use the most recent build available, as downgrading firmware versions with a locked bootloader isn't permitted.

I use Greenify and have had the Pro version for years.
Mine is pretty much new. I bought it for work usage (keeping work-related things off my personal devices), in part for when I'd be at our partner's site every one or two weeks. But not long afterwards the scamdemic hit and I wasn't going to their site anymore.
And then since it wasn't upgradable past Android 9, my company blocked any Android versions 9 & below for Google services. So now it's not usable for ANYTHING I needed it for. I'd donate it but I don't think any group could use it since it's locked to TracFone. And the parts (glass & daughterboard) can't be used for fixing my personal Moto e5. Such a waste that it can't be repurposed.
Hi
I've been trying to downgrade my S8 from pie to oreo or nougat and no matter what I flash in odin the device stays at android pie.
My goal is to downgrade to oreo or nougat in order to get access to the OEM Unlock button in the developers menu which is nowhere to be found on the current pie system, from then I'd put TWRP and a custom rom on the phone... if I can get this far.
Thanks for any help

What model is it? Post a screen shot of it in download mode.
You can still root on android 9 ( Pie )
Downgrading is generally not possible due to Bootloader version numbers.
Generally in the past people have used the date method to to get bootloader unlock option in developers option.
There are many guides out there to do with this.
ie:

Note: Being on pie unlocking the bootloader in developer menu does not necessary mean that the kg / rmm has change. You can check in download mode.
Backup your device before hand.

I don't own a snapdragon version model and haven't kept up with threads involved with them.
The snapdragon (US) variants U/ U1/ W you cannot unlock you bootloader. So any conventional means of rooting/custom roms can't be done.
If there is any possible way to root your phone check out threads by extreme syndicate, jrkruse usually found in Samsung Galaxy S8 roms, kernels, recoveries & other threads but i don't like your chances of rooting/custom roms your phone on Android 9 ( pie ).

This is the general consensus I have been determining through my queries online that it's either not rootable or will take more skill than I have to do it, it's unfortunate too. The S8 with its original firmware on it is basically a dud to me because I detest samsung's software.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Oh well... Move on.
