First you need to unlock your bootloader by rebooting into fastboot, connect to a PC, use
Code:
fastboot flash unlock
then follow the instructions on screen. After that, follow the link below.

As long as you can unlock your bootloader, you can also use a custom kernel that provides Magisk right in the img, like Handelin

Forget about Kernels. Get Magisk after u root as a start. Find urself some good modules. Then move on to shifting between roms. Get to kernels later.

Once u have unlocked bootloader and rooted once. U can use app like SwiftBackup to create a backup for all app data. What u can do right now at max is create a copy of ur internal storage somewhere on ur pc.

Yes Google Backup for pics contacts and stuff. Use Drive for files. Copy contents of ur internal storage to a folder on pc then paste them back later.
Or...use OP Clone Phone (or it's predecessor) to make a backup before unlocking the bootloader. Copy the backup directory off the phone, have your way with the phone, , copy it back & restore. It's not as good as Migrate or Swift, but doesn't require root.

Yes you can via same command but just use relock instead of lock OEM but it will erase data. Dload will not relock but it will lock so not a problem and not data erase also.

what happened ? how u messed it ?
To extract it, with the help of a root explorer, (like MiXplorer, Total Command, ecc.) go to root/dev/block/platform/hi_mci.0/by-name, and in this folder you'll find "oeminfo" file. Copy it elsewhere, it'll be around 66MB; zip it, and it'll become only 160KB

Ok thanks for letting me know... I thought Multitool needed root to extract OEMINFO from device... This was a huge problem for me coz my friend is far away from me and he's too noob that he can't even get Product ID by dialing the code...(for BL unlock code)
I would already have done it yesterday if I knew that Multitool didn't need root...
These instructions:
"Unlock your bootloader, flash custom recovery and root"
In this guide:

Hey Folks,
I recently stumbled upon Team MT's quite useful Huawei Multi-Tool – but didn't find anything about it in the Honor 10 Forum although it's compatible!
First of all I have no connection to Team MT at all, so this thread is just about the usefulness of the Tool and what you and I might experience using it.
Also I'm not responsible for any damages/issues caused by this tool.
The tool might come in handy for people that are uncomfortable using cmd/terminal commands or get confused too easily.
Of course there are still a lot of things that could go wrong so if you're not sure what you're doing or what the consequences might be, just don't flash anything.
To use the Multi-Tool, you'll have to have your bootloader unlocked and the phone connected to your pc with adb installed.
When the tool shows you the (right) phone model in the lower right, you're good to go.
With the help of the Multi-Tool, you can
ROOT your Honor 10 with Magisk
flash TWRP
flash STOCK RECOVERY
unlock various small features
All with just a few clicks.
You can download it at Team MT's website:
http://pro-teammt.ru/huawei-multi-tool/
I for instance used it to flash the stock recovery after I had installed TWRP, so I could get regular OTA updates through the system again.
I'm curious to see if there are other people that have used the tool as well or what people that just heard of it now will use it for.
Is an unlocked bootloader required for the tool to root the phone and flash custom recovery?

The Stock recovery just appeared inside the Multi-Tool, where I was able to download and flash it, I didn't download or back up anything beforehand.
Isn't there some dropdown menu where you can choose the recovery to flash?
I've been flashing it onto my COL-AL10 AND my L29, so it works either way.

Nice job man, much appreciated.
If you ever get bored try to make a pre-rooted rom/safestrap recovery (course no bootloader unlock) for the G930U/G935U with the latest firmware UUESACSI1 (Aug 27 2019), since it looks like Samsung has stopped updating this phone, or better yet a root-patcher for a stock sytem.img like you did for the G950/N950. I have uploaded the latest eng-boot vA/10 here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...postcount=1826

First of all, thank you so very much Jkruse! I followed all of your instructions and everything went perfectly! The reason why I wanted to get this completed on my old S5, is that we want to gift this phone to my wife's mother. The catch is, she only speaks Russian, and I was wondering if I would now be able to flash an international version of firmware on the S5, so that she can have access to Russian as a language option? Is this doable?

Its really no easy process to flash an international rom if you are using Verizon then data will probably not work with out some editing. You can always try it but Verizon will probably need Verizon csc stuff to work and build.prop edits.

Hey thanks for this post! I was worried about using some of the old guides on my phone, glad I found this.
However, I have a question due to why I want to root my phone.
My situation: My phone went through the factory reset process without giving me a warning before doing so. I plan on rooting my phone and trying a few different methods for recovering the files.
My Main Question: Will I be good to go with a fully rooted phone after completing step 12?
I don't feel a need to unlock the bootloader for what I'm doing (although I might do so anyway after I'm done attempting to recover files).
I've never rooted a phone before. Aside from verifying that I'm using the EMMC 15 chipset (I used the eMMC_CID_Checker_apk from this thread:https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve.../testers-required-easier-root-method-t3561529), is there anything else I should do or know about?

I'm wondering if he's wanting to root to use a file recovery app, like DiskDigger. It can recover but device needs to be rooted to access the complete internal system to recover files. Like i said though in order to root you have to wipe again before you can root. So there aren’t going to be much left to recovery after 2 wipes and a repartition

Yeah I figured, makes sense, but I don't see a mention of wiping before step 12 though. This is why I'm asking if it would be okay for me to stop there, attempt to recover some files, and then continue with the rest of the steps?
Could this potentially screw something up if I do it this way? I'd rather play it safe than sorry, most of my important stuff on this phone is backed up anyway.

Ah, I see, but would it be safe for me to stop at step 12 anyway?
I figure I might as well give it a shot anyway, even if It's unlikely I'll recover anything, but I'd rather only wipe it a single time than twice.

If you stop at 12 you will just have king root and some apps work with kingroot but some do not
Sent from some device I modified
using OnePlus 9 5g from tmobile and looking to convert to internation.anyone had any issues or tips to make sure I don't mess up?
So I come from the OnePlus 9 Pro forum, but the tips are identical because pretty much the same phone except for a few differences.
1. DO NOT FLASH BOOTLOADER
I can't stress this enough, flashing the bootloader will render the MSM tool that OnePlus provides for you USELESS! I figured this out the hard way!
2. Make a full device backup, if you're rooted already use Partitions backup and restore available on the Play Store
3. Keep OEM UNLOCKING ON THE WHOLE TIME! Don't turn it off until and unless you return to complete stock using a MSM tool! Also, keep your bootloader unlocked please.
4. Don't trust random "conversion" folders that flash everything at once without looking at the files, ESPECIALLY not without looking at the .bat file(s) such as a flashall.bat.
Sounds too risky. It's not so simple anymore .
Can I ask a clarifying question @razercortex ? You're saying to not flash the bootloader; does that mean I could simply take the boot.img, do the magisk thing to it, and at least have root? I don't wanna brick my T-Mobile variant here, but I really want to have root.
You don't need to do any of that to root. I'm running the tmo variant and have had root since I unlocked it.
Just grab the rooted boot.img and Fastboot BOOT! THE IMG, run magisk and choose direct install and restart then you got root. If you flash anything, you'll be in trouble most likely so just Fastboot boot boot.img
What if I don't want root, just international version
I am interested to switch from T-Mobile variant to international as well.

When you run the Safetynet check in Magisk, does it show "pass" ? Mine failed check.

Im showing to be passing. There was a magisk issue a week ago or so that cause it to fail but it was updated.
Playstore shows "Device is certified"
I really want international myself. This battery is complete garbage and tmo likes to drag their feet on an update the international got to fix the battery issue weeks ago

@jfsat If you just want root, patching the boot.img with magisk should be good enough. Just don't forget to keep OEM unlocking checked and keep the unlock code just in case. Also, don't relock until you have flashed stock boot.img.

It literally does not matter, but I would recommend flashing the boot.img instead because I don't know what the Direct Install method does to your phone's firmware. Flashing the boot.img works great, it only touches your boot partition and if you have the stock boot you can just flash it back and relock it, no problem. Direct Install could potentially change something else though it looks like it could be fine, but YMMV.

I know how to do it, you need to extract payload.bin from the EU OTA and flash all the partitions, find a tutorial online. Just make sure to make a full backup using Partitions backup and restore on the play store or manually dump partitions from your phone. You don't need userdata, it's too big and probably incompatible with the region change, just a side note that flashing partitions in the super partition (system, vendor, product, system_ext, odm, etc.) requires you to be in fastbootd, so use fastboot reboot fastboot to do so. Other than that, make sure there's an MSM tool available, you can check with OnePlus support.
Hello! So I've been trying for 10 days now to root and I just got to the point where it actually says PASS! I got a SM-A125F (CNX) and after I got everything set up, I open Odin 3.14.1 and put the AP file in (magisk patched, named boot.img.tar) and it says PASS! After only 2 seconds! What happened? What can I do to fix it?

From the root guides I've read it's recommended to patch the whole AP file and not just the boot.img

Use this link and try using the entire AP file..don't extract the boot image...Patch the AP file as is and add the patched AP file into odin. I would also recommend adding all the other files like BL and CP and CSC not just the AP file... Just do a clean flash of the rom but in the AP section Add the patched AP file
