Old Note user, I miss the original s-note and action memo, I feel like the last few Note series are terrific hardware wise but Samsung dropped the ball on software. Anyone have a way to get the original apps working again?
Hi, @Ducter,
[APP] S Note 5.2.04.25 W/ Extension Pack & S Note Widget (working action memo)
**Welcome to the Fox Den!** After seeing a lot of information about the S Note and the extras on the forums, I figured it would be best to put it all in one location. I did this for the Note 7 for a while as well, so here we go. The S Note...
forum.xda-developers.com
I tried to install on a N9 & N20U the S Note app, the extension pack, & widget that are listed underneath "Drop Box" in @BlueFox721's thread above.
The S Note version 5.2.04.25 crashes on the N9 & N20U, but I installed the extension pack & S Note widget which work w/ later versions.
N20U - version 5.2.08.8 from APKMirror's website.
Action Memo is unfortunately not available, but it has a folder in SNoteData on the internal storage.
I don't use Samsung Notes any longer after finding out via ClassyShark3xodus that it has Google AdMob.
S Note does not have any trackers.

Hmm. I tried that but not with the widget and later versions. I will check that out.
I really don't understand why Samsung dropped S Notes as I'm sure many used it but they must have had their reasons. Thanks again.

I forgot to mention to you that my N20U has Android 11/One UI 3.1.
I couldn't download the S Note extension & widget for version 5.2.08.8 from the Galaxy Store, so I used the apps listed in @firefox50's post.

I want the Calculator on the Samsung Galaxy S III. Can I get this App without having to Root, (and where). If Rooting is the only way, is there an App that has the Samsung Galaxy S III Calculator?
Currently, I have the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX, {XT912}; with Ice Cream Sandwich, (Android 4.0.4).
However, what I really liked about this Calculator was that I could be at Sam's Club and spot 48 AA Batteries on Sale for $14.97,and then Later be at Wal-Mart and see they were selling 40 AA Batteries for $11.97. Is this a Good Buy? I'd Check my Calculator History, and yep, the batteries at Wal-Mart are 0.29925 cents each and the Batteriest at Sam's Club were .311875 cents each. So the batteries at Wal-Mart are Cheaper per Battery, but less in Quanity.
I really like this Calculator, and I've tried and tried and tried to find a replacement for it on Play Store and I found one that is just about as good, (the History is not in Color like the Samsung Galaxy S III is). That one is the "Calculator Mem Pro".
Try "RealCalc Pro"
Works really well; outside of the typical functions it has a good unit converter, which I use frequently. You can also set the history to save up to the last 50 results.

I bought and have RealCalc Pro. It's nice and does most all that I'd Expect... However, the History was not in Color like the Samsung Galaxy S III's History. I have found a Great Calculator that I think Motorola will want to consider for their next Stock Calculator. It is called "Calculator Mem Pro", (the Calculator Mem, {not the Pro Version}, with Ads may show Porno Ads).
Calculator Mem Pro Rivals the Samsung Galaxy S III Stock Calculator, and Beats it by a Mile~! Includes the Plus / Minus Change Button, a Percent Button, Parentheses, Plus a History, Memory Plus / Minus, the Colors can be Changed, and as a Super Added Bonus it can also be a Widget~! The History can Copy either the Formula or the Results or Import to the Display, or Copy or Send to Email. Calculator Mem Pro is by far the Best Normal Accounting Calculator that I've found, with RDev Calculator being my 2nd Choice.
I found several other Calculators that were more Specific like Scientific Calculators, (like RealCalc Scientific Calculator / RealCalc Plus) that also had Plus / Minus Change Button, a Percent Button, Parentheses, Plus a History, Memory Plus / Minus, and even had a History, but they are pretty Complex, or Intimidating looking.
* * * * *
I went through about 25-35 Calculators, including...
CalcBuddy
calCOOLator
CalcRT, v.1.3
Calculations, (or Calculations 4.0 Pro)
Calculator 3, v.1.1
*Calculator Memory Pro, v.2.5.2
Calculator, (UtopicSoft)
*Calculator Calzo Free No Ads
*ClickCalc
Cool Calculator
Easy Calculator
handyCalc, v.0.53,
*MobiCalc, v.1.3.8, ~ Dark
My Basic Calculator,
My Calculator, (Stormin Dorman Productions)
Office Calculator Pro, v.3.1.0
*RDev Calculator
RealCalc Scientific Calculator
Seven+ WP7 Calculator,
ShakeCalc
Simple Calculator
StdCalc
*Total Calculator-Paid,
Twin Calculator
*RDev Calculator and Calculator Memory Pro are my Favorites so far, (they have Functionality and Color). RDev has a Built in FUNC Key, where the Default is x+15% , {This percentage can be changed}, Great for Tips, enter the amount and Press FUNC and it will Calculate how much to pay including the Original Cost).
Calculations, (or Calculations 4.0 Pro) has 5 Essential Functions: Advanced Calculator, Currency Converter, Measurement Converter, Mortgage Calculator, and Tip Calculator. Has a New way of selecting that resembles a Great Approach to a Smart Phone App, (rather than make a Calculator Clone App that resembles a Real Hand Held Calculator). However, it's method of Adding kept coming up with different answers than I expected, so it was unuseful to me.
CalcBuddy has the most Realistic Looking Graphic User Interface, (GUI), but it lacks the Plus/Minus Change Sign & the Percent Button, and a Separate Tape History would allow for bigger Text Size, and be more Readable.
My Calculator, (Stormin Dorman Productions) has no History Tape, no Parentheses, but has the Memory +/- Retention, {I sometimes can use the Memory to replace the Parentheses), but great Color GUI. Works Great also~! Nice Design.
Office Calculator Pro, v.3.1.0 really has potential. Very Reliable. Has a History Tape, no Parentheses, but has the Memory +/- Retention but just no Pizazz~!. The Colors are so Pastel, no 3-D Effects, like My Calculator, (Stormin Dorman Productions) or CalcBuddy has. If CalcBuddy & Office Calculator Pro could combine and add the Parentheses, and put some Color on the History Tape this would be a keeper, {or if My Calculator & Office Calculator Pro could combine and add the Parentheses, and put some Color on the History Tape, a great iPhone Clone Calculator would emerge}.
Total Calculator-Paid has the 2nd Best Color History, (Samsung Galaxy S's Stock Calculator is Number One in that Department); but I don't like the Color of the Skin of the Calculator, and you have to go to a 2nd Menu to Access it everytime. It should Combine with Calculator Mem Pro or RDEV Calculator to give us the best of all worlds.
Calculator Calzo Free No Ads is a real Competitor also, it's a new way of doing things, but you get several Screens that can Copy Back & Forth with One Another, (Eliminates the need for Parentheses, and there's no Equal Sign, See it for your self ~ Search for Google Play Store and find "Calculator Calzo Free No Ads").
ClickCalc works well, and has some Color, (looks like a Junior High School Calculator).
MobiCalc (Dark) could almost be my Favorite Calculator if it had some More Color in the Display, (the Expressions and Results and Operators). However, it works Great~!
I like the way RDev Calculator adds, 35 + 3.39 + .77 + 9.01% = 42.69., {Not 39.23}, and I like the Colors and the Haptic Feel, {but the History keeps Clearing when I Exit ~ I wrote them, they'll clear that up}. RDev Calculator could move up into my Number One Spot, bumping Calculator Memory Pro when they get the History Tape worked out, (it only Erases if you Exit, so, just never Exit between Stores. For Example, 48 AA Batteries are $18.48 at one store, but 16 AA's are on sale someplace else for $15.95. Which is a Better Deal, (with the History Tape, I can make that Determination Fast).
I also have to Press Equal after the Additional then Add in the Percent on Calculator Memory Pro to get the same Result, {such as
(35 + 3.39 + .77) = 39.16 + 9.01% = 42.69}. Although the Parentheses are not necessary, unless I was adding Two Different Expressions such as:
(14 x 4) + (14 x 4.5) = 119
Calculator Memory Pro is pretty Awesome, the Display could be Bigger, and sometimes typing aLeft Parentheses... "(" ... doesn't Clear the Previous Equation, {but I wrote them and I'll bet that they'll have that Corrected Soon also}. I just have to remember to press the Clear Button before I start. Typing anything other than the "(" clears the Previous Equation. Really this is my Favorite for right now.
If "My Basis Calculator" could just have a History and put the Percent and Plus/Minus Change Sign Button on the Portrait View this would be an Ideal Smart Phone Calc, as the Haptic Feel is just right; (and as a Bonus, I made my own Colors that I think that they're going to incorporate into their DownLoad).
I want the Key Pad of (Calculator Memory Pro / RDev Calculator) meets (CalcBuddy & My Calculator) and the Tape History of Total Calculator and the Accuracy of Office Calculator Pro. Is that too much to ask? Color My World. Build this Calculator~!
Do any of these calculators have a simply 4x2 widget?

Calculator Mem Pro has a Widget, (I don't know if it is 4x2 or not).
Finally, a Calculator that Rivals the Samsung Galaxy S III Calculator. Includes the Plus / Minus Change Button, a Percent Button, Parentheses, a History that can be Copied as an Expression or the Result or both, Memory Plus / Minus, and as a Super Added Bonus, the Colors can be Changed~! Hi folks!
This thread will just be about me grumbling about some of our beloved Notes functions - especially the S-Pen "core apps".
My question is: What did Samsung think with integrating two dictinct apps which rather should have been developed as one (and could have been developed as one so EASY)? This is what we do have now:
1.) Action Memo:
- Cool functions (e.g. saving numbers to contacs)
- VERY restricted in formating (pensize, pen style etc)
- Can be opened from the s-pen actions menu
- Can be choosed to be opened instead of the s- pen actions menu after detaching the S-Pen (this function was reserved for the S-Note on the Note 2) (S-Note popup)
- Can only be synced to samsung
- Notes are sorted in a list - but NO WIDGET
2.) S- Note
- No "cool functions"
- many format options (pens, colors, pensize, picture etc)
- Can not be opened from the S-Pen actions menu
- Can not be choosed to be opened after detaching the S-Pen anymore (S-Note popup)
- Can be synced to samsung and evernote
- Notes are sorted in a list - WIDGET IS AVAILABLE.
3.) Scrapbook
--> just a THIRD app with just ONE MORE function, which could have been integrated in e.g. S-Note as well.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why didn´t they got it managed to have one app to "rule them all"? Wouldnt that have been MUCH better and much more logical!?
One app, that can be immediately accessed form the menu/after detaching the s-pen, which can be used as a notepad, with all the functions and with a widget? Now I always have to decide which app I´m going to use. If it has to be fast, I am forced to use action memo (where I have to go without formating options), wherelse I always prefere S-Note when there is "the time to open it up".
Yes, I know, there ist e.g. Papyrus or /and the S-Pen buddy. But this is not the topic.
If I remember a similar topic was added here and a moderator closed it because there is no point... no offence but if all people liked the phone or its features than samsung would be the only company selling phones.
Peace!

Well, there is a point. If no one opens up such threads (*****ing about their software) , they have no reason at all to change things.
Closing such threads is not usual on xda, perhaps the OP didn't make his point clear. Otherwise, I would be surprised.
Well, there is actually an action memo widget. Just saying.
And action memo was designed to take memos, or quick, and usually short, bits of information. Hence why you have such a variety of 'actions' to deal with bits of information. S-Note is now designed more as a notebook, we're you can keep a wealth of information, organize it all, etc.
I agree it would have been nice to have a single app to do it all, but then you have to start thinking were do you draw the line between different apps, or lumping everything s-pen related into a single app. The bigger the app, the longer it's going to take to load, index and display everything. Keeping things to small packages for quick tasks was probably the best way to go.
I personally like the separation of the two. I use action memo for jotting down bits of information I need right away, and then just get rid of it later, like a quick phone number, work appt. Or small list of grocery items. I use S-Note to hold detailed information about work I do, neatly organized and synced with evernote (which I'm really liking btw).
I doubt complaining will get something like this changed. Either get used to it and use it or don't.
Just my 2 cents. Not saying your wrong on the matter in a personal sense, but there's logic to why they did what they did.
Sent from my SM-N900W8 using xda app-developers app
I like the segregation of Action Memo & S Note. Divides long form & short form. Coming from the Note II, I wished it had done this, as quickly jotted down thoughts are quite different from longer form, fleshed out ideas. You can still open Action Memo using the hold-button, double-tap action from the Note II as well.

I think you might be missing something from the very core of it - Action Note is not so much a real "note in a notebook" as a "post-it note" (term is TM by 3M - which explains why Samsung can not use it).
I only discovered how handy those Action Notes are when I left one minimized - it will "stick" to your screen everywhere just as if you placed a physical Post-It on your monitor.
My main gripe on that is that you can not change (default) pen width, also you can not write normal text and most important you can only have ONE minimized note on the screen
I agree there are issues. Action Memo is a nice idea but the actions are far too limited. Why not use standard android sharing so I can tweet a note for example. If I don't use Google Tasks then I can't create a task. At present I can't even copy text to the clipboard.
The key missing feature though is the ability to transfer the note over into S Note. At present if I start a note in Action Note and then decide it's a full note there isn't a thing I can do other than write the text out again as a result I don't touch it at all.
Also why not allow the actions from S Note?
The same is true for Scrap Booker. A nice feature which I don't touch because it doesn't integrate with anything else or sync to other devices.

Actually you can "Send" the Action Note (from the list view) to a number of destinations, including S Note (where it remains as a separate thing but still is a start).

I didn't know that. Not ideal as it converts the note to an image but better than nothing.
So far my preferred method is sending the action note to the browser and then copying it back out from the search box.

You are right - it is just usable with TouchWiz and it is just ONE note, the S-Note Widget is usable with all launchers and you can get an overview about all your notes. My bad, but as everywhere --> it is inconsistent

You see, that´s the point: You were able to use S-Note for quick memos with the Note 2 as well - the S-Note popup was PERFECT for these kinds of notes! Why should Action memo be better in any ways? I don´t think that there is a "pro" here (just IMAO).

This is how I used S-Note with my Note 2: Quite a big number of notebooks like "ToDo", "groceries", "university", "important", "ideas" etc. (keep the folder function in mind as well), most of them placed on the desktop either as widget or as shortcut. It was just nice - optimized with the action memo functions it would have been just perfect

Yeah, well, S-Note was perfect for "post it notes" as well (S-Note popup ) - in the end it should be the user who decides if he/she wants to write a short note (blank sheet) or e.g. to develop a more complex mindmap or something...do you really need two seperate programs for that?!

The first two points are going in line with what I mean. Action memo is just too simple in its functions to justify the "second app thing", as there already is such a mighty tool like S-Note.

Absolutely correct, I totally forgot to mention scrapbook - which I hardly use at all for the same reasons. Good idea - but why not just include it in S-Note? It is just an additional function - but here we go, a third app (?!).

You see - "still a start" - it looks to me as they just collected some ideas and coded an app for each of them^^ This is not well-conceived, it is just a collection of ideas in different apps.

Yeah, and it would have been so easy to think about such tasks beforehand. The Note is one of samsungs premium devices ("the" premium device?) - don´t lynch me, but at this point samsung should take apple as an example.
Action Memo can quiuckly export the memo to Evernote, in a new note that can be freely editted.
S Note creates EN notes for its notes, but they have only a blob pic and no changes can be done to that note.
For me, S Note is junk. EN isn't as pretty, but is WAY more functional. I can create notes on any PC and read and edit them on my phone, and vise-versa. S Note ignores notes that weren't created by it and its notes can't be edited anywhere else.

You are absolutely right, a great implementation!! :highfive:
The Note is one of samsungs premium devices ("the" premium device?) - don´t lynch me, but at this point samsung should take apple as an example.

action memo can put one only widget in the desktop, but you can browse all notes in the same widget swiping up with the pen.

There is solution buddy and is the following.
On Note 2, after detaching the pen the simple Memo appears. On the left upper corner there is an arrow. By clicking on that arrow, it opens the full featured S Note.
On Note 3, when pen is detached and simple memo appears, just click on the right bottom site, where it writes an "s". Then again the full featured S-Nite page will appear.

Good evening everyone,
I was browsing the Apk Mirror with my Galaxy A3 2017 when I decided to download the following .apk file: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...touchwiz-home-9-0-01-47-android-apk-download/. I downloaded it and then tried to install it as a normal apk. When installed, I noticed that the launcher's name has changed from "Touchwiz Home" to "Samsung Experience Home". I think that Samsung is finally killing off the Touchwiz "brand" name. It seems that it will soon be a historical part of Samsung phones. What are your thoughts on this?
Note that the version of Samsung's home screen mentioned above will be possibly included on the company's Oreo Update and on the 2018's flagship Galaxy S9.
