Recovery a Android file after deleting permanently. please help me thanks in advance - General Questions and Answers

can be recover the file without rooting the android phone ?

Likely not. Always backup critical data redundantly. I time stagger my backups as well, which will sometimes avert this kind of issue.

Flashed phone - need to recover files

Is there any way to recover files from a phone that has been flashed? All photo/file restore programs seem only to restore deleted information from memory cards/hard drives. I need to restore some data from my device itself (T-Mobile Dash). Are there any programs out there that will do this?
Thank you in advance for any help...
I really doubt you can recover from a flashed device. Your best bet is to go back to the old rom and then do a full restore with your backup file, which I'm sure that you have. Then copy all the files/reg settings you need to your sd card. Then flash back to the new rom and install the files/reg settings either manually or with sashimi.
Why don't you backup your files and program .cab's before you flash it? That's the smartest way..
no you cant, you should have taken a back up. But after flashing you cannot recover it.
Thanks for the input. I figured so much. I didnt think I had any files I cared about saved directly on the device. Teaches me to backup my files no matter what....

I know about a program that can recover deleted files not only from cd or sm card, but also from other media types. It is called Advanced File Recovery. I hope this program will help you.

That program is for windows and not windows mobile.
As far as i know, there is no way to recover data from a flashed mobile.

Recuva

Has anyone used Recuva to successfully recover deleted files from their sdcard? I tried using it to recover a backup that I deleted yesterday and it hasn't found anything from that folder, even with a deep scan.

I have used it successfully. Recovered about 200MB of deleted photos, but it won't work if a new file has been overwritten in that block.
Files aren't really "deleted" until something gets written on top of them, like another picture in the same place on the sd card
As with other file recovery programs Recuva works by looking for unreferenced data, but if the operating system has written new data over a deleted file then recovery will often not be possible.

You may be out of luck

Damn, so every backup overwrites the last deleted one then?

Whatever got stored in that block deleted it, whether it be another recovery, or a text file
my phone got wiped last month after an unlock, factory reset or something and nothing recovered the data. i tried partition recovery, getdataback, easyrecovery, none of them found data. might have better luck getting stuff back that was just deleted.

[Q] How to delete files permanently/making them unrecoverable

So I've had some images on my phone I would rather not have on there and I deleted them. Yet, if I download an image restore app I'm able to get them back. I want to know if I can delete them forever so they don't get discovered in the restore/recover. Or do I have to reformat my Nexus 4?
Running CM10.1.2 (not that probably matters).
Cheers
You can't make them unrecoverable. It isn't possible to run a forensic wipe on the internal memory as it contains everything that makes the phone run.

I know if you reformat multiple times it makes it more difficult for the common recovery program to retreve. Of course I don't expect a total wipe that forensic data companies can recover though...

All that a format does is delete the reference link to the files. If you then overwrite them with other data it becomes difficult for the average user to recover.

How to root without wiping storage, trying to restore deleted files, Nexus 10 5.1.1

Hi Everyone!
I am trying to root my Nexus 10 to try to recover a bunch of video files that were deleted. When I run DiskDigger it finds all of the thumbnails, but it won't search for video files, and says that it needs root access to do so. To gain root access of the machine, after doing some digging I found that there is a program specifically for my device, Nexus Root Toolkit v2.1.9, which is what I was/am going to use to accomplish things, but it says that I need to unlock the bootloader before rooting. While unlocking the bootloader I found that it says that I need to backup because the device will be wiped... Is there a backup that backups all the storage, and not just the allocated parts? Otherwise, if I am understanding right, I think that it would make it exponentially more difficult to find the deleted files, if the entire machine was wiped.
If rooting only deletes a limited amount of personal data, then it is probably fine, I guess, I just have no idea what it actually does. If it does wipe the whole thing, is there a backup app somewhere that will back up all the storage, even currently unallocated (the deleted) parts?
Thanks for any advice, I am currently dead in the water...

[Resolved] [HELP] [TWRP] Unable to find "Format data" button

Hi guys,
First : thanks a lot for all your help on this forum.
I'm trying to install a custom ROM on my new LG G6 H870 phone using TWRP 3.1 and i'm facing an issue : I can't find the "Format Data" button in the Wipe menu. I need that button to remove the "Encryption Unsuccessful" screen after flashing.
What did I missed ? Can't see any thread talking about this....
Is the option "Repair or Change File System" / "Change File System" / "Ext4" doing exactly the same ? It does not remove the "Encryption Unsuccessful" screen...
Should I try to reinstall TWRP ?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Ok, the twrp image I used seems to be broken... I downloaded it again from the official webiste, now everything works.
I re-flashed twrp using fastboost, everything worked well. I have now the Format data button...
Thanks
Format data button
Hello,
Could you please help me to understand the real function of Format data button in Wipe section ?
Cause I saw in a thread that it is needed to root android phone but does-it also delete all data in the phone (pictures videos etc...) ? And if so, is it possible to recover these files after formatting ?
Thank you !

Yes, everything that you have stored on the device will be removed during the format.
Can it be recovered after? Maybe, maybe not, typically, if just deleted, it can be mostly recovered fairly easily, but when formatting instead of deleting, it is usually difficult to recover anything, if anything can even be recovered at all.
When stored information is simply deleted, it can be recovered because it isn't actually gone, it is still there, it is just "tagged" to be ignored by the system as if it isn't there, then, the next time the device needs to write new data, it overwrites the "tagged" data. When you "recover" deleted data, you are basically just removing the "tag" so that the "deleted" data is no longer marked to be ignored/overwritten.
But, when you format, it does not delete the data(it is not "tagged"), it is removed and then overwritten to make the space "blank".

Thanks a lot for the details, I will try my best to restore my phone after this because it bootlooped yesterday ...... So, I'm thinking of getting an image of the system with ADB sideload on recovery mode before flashing the original firmware....
Is it a bad idea ?

You don't necessarily need to pull a system.img, backing up your data via adb then restoring the data after getting the bootloop fixed, should work.
If you can get adb to connect with the device properly, then, yes, I would pull an adb backup of your apps, data and personal settings. Then wipe or reflash the device then restore the apps, data and settings from the adb backup. Are you familiar with adb backup?

No, I'm not familiar with it but I read a lot of XDA threads and I will give it a shot. ISo, I'll try an ADB backup. If it's not working, it won't big a big deal, I will reflash it to have my phone back.
Thanks
