Flashed phone - need to recover files - General Topics

Is there any way to recover files from a phone that has been flashed? All photo/file restore programs seem only to restore deleted information from memory cards/hard drives. I need to restore some data from my device itself (T-Mobile Dash). Are there any programs out there that will do this?
Thank you in advance for any help...

I really doubt you can recover from a flashed device. Your best bet is to go back to the old rom and then do a full restore with your backup file, which I'm sure that you have. Then copy all the files/reg settings you need to your sd card. Then flash back to the new rom and install the files/reg settings either manually or with sashimi.

Why don't you backup your files and program .cab's before you flash it? That's the smartest way..

no you cant, you should have taken a back up. But after flashing you cannot recover it.

Thanks for the input. I figured so much. I didnt think I had any files I cared about saved directly on the device. Teaches me to backup my files no matter what....

I know about a program that can recover deleted files not only from cd or sm card, but also from other media types. It is called Advanced File Recovery. I hope this program will help you.

That program is for windows and not windows mobile.
As far as i know, there is no way to recover data from a flashed mobile.

File restore question

All photo/file restore programs seem to only restore deleted information from memory cards. I need to restore some data from my device (T-Mobile Dash). I upgraded the ROM without backing up the few files I had saved directly to the device. Are there any programs out there that will do this? And can they be found for free??

Used TGA_Gunnman's steps in order to Root from 2.3.3, need new ROM?

Hello,
So as the title says, I used TGA_Gunnman's steps in order to Root from 2.3.3,
and would like to test out a better ROM. I'm thinking about trying a ROM
that's not as buggy.
Is it possible to backup all my installed apps before proceeding
assuming I can even install a new ROM in the state my phone is in?
Thx in advance...
TTT...pls help..ty.

I use Titanium Backup Free from the market. Under preferences change the default backup location to your external SD card. Go to batch and chose "backup all user apps". To be extra safe, copy the backup created by TI to your computer for safe keeping.
Created Back up...
Here's what I've done...
*I entered ClockworkMod Recovery (via pwr button +down volume) and
created back up there.
Where are the back ups stored so I can delete old one?
*Can I still restore to backup I created after factory reset?
Thank you.

Use a file explorer and look on your external SD card for the file called Clockworkmod/backup/the date of the backup.
I mentioned Titanium Backup because it has been full proof for me restoring my user apps from Rom to Rom.
Yes, you should be able to retore after a factory reset or trying another Rom.
So when I factory reset via clockworkmod, then I can re-enter recovery
there and restore to last backup? So this means all the stock apps I
removed will be there right?

Now phone is back to the way it was before i reset to factory
Settings.
My sounds only for unlock/lock and camera not workin
Is driving me bonkers.
Think i'm ready to try new rom once I.can figure
Out how to install the new rom and apply it.
As long as I have backup in CWM, I can restore to back up
After install of new rom right?
Thx
You are correct. I love weapon 3.O
Did you try titanium backup for your user apps? Games, etc.?
Feel so ignorant....i'm still grying to figure out how to
flash (install) weopon..heck any rom for that matter.

Keep in mind not backing up your Apps, you will loose them putting on another rom. Use the above mention for the App backup.
Don't I already have the back up that I created within Clockworkmod
or do I need to use another program like TI to back up?

FINALLY able to install new roms, tried weopon...but when I re-install
TI to restore back up, I don't get most of everything back
(pics, apps, contacts, etc)...
perhaps I backed up incorrectly...will try and repeat steps.
In the meantime, I had to restore to my saved image
via clockwork.

Pictures and contacts shouldn't be changing around as you should have contacts backed up through gmail, and your pictures should be saved on your sdcard. Application and data like ringtones and phone setup should be restored if done properly through titanium backup or something similar.

I would suggest restoring the original backup you made. Then use TI to back up all your user apps as I described above.
Next step - install your new rom, then restore your apps from TI. Again, be sure to change the default save location of TI to your external SD card before you make the backup of your apps.
There is a ton of info on these topics. So much so that it can be a little confusing. Let me know if you have more questions.
Feel free to hit the thanks if anyone's advise helps you.
So i'm finally good on flashing ROMS but TI is a bit touchy for me.
When I restore the backup I made in the "Batch File" area,
do I restore do I run...when I tried the one that says restore all
apps and user data, I had to individullay install each one...
perhaps this is due to me using the free version???
Will TI backup all my contacts too and the contents of my SD card?

Full Android backup to PC possible?

Hello I wonder if making a full phone backup to PC's hard drive would be possible...I mean something similar to Acronis trueimage of Windows partition...but do this on phone with exclusion of the main firmware. Because of no SDcard slot I need store everything to connected PC HDD...
Looked at TitaniumBackup which probably is close to what I need but I'm afraid it lacks support for storing to networked location. Any working solution is highly appreciated

You need to root (gain root/superuser access) your device and install a custom recovery. Clockwork Mod is one of the (CWM), TWRP is another (having used both, I prefer TWRP - but you can try either/both yourself). You can then copy or cut the backed-up files from the recovery's folder to your computer.
Thanks, probably give it a try if anything else fails. Would it be possible to mount a windows shared drive to phone's internal filesystem? So that TB could access it as internal folder...
use nandroid backup (cwm)
you must root your device
backup cwm will get what you want
or you can try this GO Backup Pro 2.9

Thanks for your suggestion

Thanks for the advices. I finally managed to install CWM
CWM's backup = Nandroid?
This works for SDcard, however the condition to backup directly to my PC's hard drive is not met
Remember I suffer with lack of space on builtin SDcard so I need to exclude it from backup process at all even as temporary location.
One more question about CWM, where can I find the latest version? I have 6.0.1.2.

Yeah, you need to be able to access files in the phone not on sd card, the phone has a seperate memory he wants to access, I think he is asking how to put the phone (everything) onto PC.... im not sure how to do this myself but I will look into it for you, I believe you can access that info but im not sure where the files you want are.
The backup is saved into /sdcard/clockworkmod/blob/ but the problem I have with it is that used soace in internal memory is over 1.5GB while free space on Sdcard is usually several 100s MB...

[Q] Windows Program Backup [Closed]

I was wondering if there was a way do backup all of my installed software with data on windows to an external hard drive. An example of this would be androids app backup. So how can I do this.
I only use the EaseUS Todo Backup !
For me is the best software for Backup & Recovery .
If it was not formatted or re-saved you can use Recuva. But if it was accidentally formatted, then try using ParetoLogic Data Recovery.
probably no issues
if u again using the windows phone... u can back up those... if u goin to someother os then
not possible
Because of the way windows works.
programs can put information anywhere
configs in the registry, in appdata, in the program folder, some random silly folder.
There isn't a good way to do it automaticly, you'd have to backup the files and registry manually, which is a lot more tedious than copying the relevant %appdata% information and just reinstalling the program
Thanks
Thanks everyone for your replies.

[Q] Problem with CWM backup files

Hi everybody,
I need help accessing backed up data of my Nexus 5. I have made several backups with CWM and I downloaded these backups as ZIPs to my desktop pc via Wifi with the Rom Manager App. Everything worked fine so i thought I was safe... big mistake. Because now I deleted the original backups from the phone, and the restore from the downloaded ZIPs is not working.
The problem is that all the ZIPs seem to be corrupted. I cannot open them for example with 7zip (sadly I didn't test that before) on my windows PC, and when I restore them in the recovery mode on the phone, CWM says: can't open (bad file). Strange is, that all the 5 downloaded ZIPs have all the exact size of 2 GB. That is unlikely, because I made these backups within several months, in my opinion the size of the backup should differ, because the data on the phone changed over time.
Can anybody tell me, how to get to the data within these ZIP files?
And why have all the CWM backups the same size? Is there something that limits this to 2 GB?
Any help is appreciated.

It's better to use TWRP.
For the future OK, but that does not help me getting to my data of the existing CWM backups...
I don't need to completely restore it on the phone, it would be enough to get to the media folder, to get some pics, and maybe to the call/SMS log and WhatsApp log.

If you want your pics back, you won't get them from CWM backup, because nandroid backups do not backup camera pics.
Best solution is to use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.defianttech.diskdigger.
