Question Why does google uses data when i dont have a google account? - Samsung Galaxy A32 5G

Hi, i was checking my data usage and while im a paranoid android regarding privacy i can ignore things like "Weather" apps using data, or system updates and OS and so on. However google play services uses data, even if a bit, on the regular. Why is that? I dont have any google account or service in my phone and i disabled the weird google antivirus play protect. Is this because of the base google services that i need for many apps to run?

Failed Retrieving Accounts with Google Voice

When I try to use the Google Voice app, it launches and gets stuck at the "Sign in to your Google Account" screen, with a brief message at the bottom that says "Failed retrieving accounts." It works fine on my Nexus 4 running Nougat (Lineage). Anyone able to use the Google Voice app on the Pixel 2?
I also notice some other weird account behavior, like in the maps app, in the side pane, I don't see my account name to sign in, but I do see it in a pop up if I click on "add account" (and can log in with maps--as well as Play and other apps).
Any thoughts what's up with Google Voice? Uninstalling it and reinstalling it did not help. Neither did restarting the phone several times.

[Edit: OMG, I answered my own question after futzing with this for more than an hour. It turned out that Google Play Services did not have permission to access contacts on my device and that caused the weirdness on Google Voice and Maps also.
So I went to: Apps & Notifications > All apps > Google Play services > Permissions and then flipped the switch to enable contacts.
I guess when the pop up says, "If you deny this permission, basic features of your device may no longer function as intended," they mean it. When I was disabling some of this stuff, I figured Google was just trying to scare me away from giving them more personal information (which Google probably considers a basic feature).
The funny thing is that on my Nexus 4 with Lineage, Google Play services has permission to access contacts, in the same place in the settings. But then in the Privacy Guard settings I set it to ignore requests to read or modify contacts from Google Play services and that apparently does not interfere with how it manages accounts. In fact, Privacy Guard says Google Play services has never tried to read or modify my contacts, even though it apparently needs permission to do so or won't work correctly. Weird.]
In my case it was not a permissions issue. My Google Play Services was very old and not updating itself. Loading the latest APK fixed the issue with Google Voice (via Apkmirror). I could not even update from the Play Store.

Play Store won't auto-update apps or install apps from web (SM-G900V / RR 5.8.5)

Hi all, I'm having a problem with the Play Store on my Verizon Galaxy S5 running Ressurection Remix 5.8.5 (official) and Open GApps nano. When I use the Play Store app on my phone I can install apps with no problem. However, the apps will not auto-update, even though I have auto-update enabled. I also cannot install apps through the Play Store's web interface. The device shows up with a "Last Used" date of "null" (screenshot), and when I click "Install" the app never actually installs to my phone, despite appearing in "My Library".
I'm not sure exactly when this started happening, but it might have been when I installed a modded microG to use iYTBP as explained in this thread. However, I have uninstalled microG and re-flashed Ressurection Remix since then.
So far I have done the following to try and resolve this problem:
Tested Google Cloud Messaging push notifications using com.firstrowria.pushnotificationtester (they work properly).
Disabled and re-enabled syncing for all the services on my Google account (App Data, Calendar, Contacts, Gmail, Google Fit data, People details).
Removed my Google account from Settings | Accounts, and re-added it.
Cleared data + cache for the following apps: Play Store, Google Play services, Google Services Framework, Google Account Manager, Google Backup Transport.
Tried running without a SIM card.
Performed a factory reset.
Wiped system, data, and cache/Dalvik partitions, and re-flashed the latest official Ressurection Remix.
Registered my Google Services Framework Android ID at https://www.google.com/android/uncertified/.
The only thing I haven't been able to test yet is a totally new SIM card. I'm kind of running out of ideas and starting to worry that somehow my device data may be corrupt on Google's servers. Can anyone offer advice for additional troubleshooting, or point out something I may be missing?
Thank you for your kind consideration!
Just a quick bump. I'd sure like to get this fixed!

Google mobile services stopped on miui 12.5.1 (note 8 pro CN rom)

After getting the update V12.5.1.0.RGGCNXM (Android 11), all google mobile services (Ytube,GDrive,Gmail) in my redmi note 8 pro(chinese rom) stopped working. Is there a way to solve the problem or roll back to previous miui versions without unlocking bootloader?
My guess is you confuse Google Play services with Google Mobile Services:
Google Play services is used to update Google apps and apps from Google Play.
This component provides core functionality like authentication to your Google services, synchronized contacts, access to all the latest user privacy settings, and higher quality, lower-powered location based services.
What you're referrering to is obviously Google Mobile Services ( AKA GMS - formerly called GApps )

I have the exact same problem after upgrading to MIUI 12.5 with Chinese ROM. Every google app has stopped working (can open them but I get an endless spinning icon on YouTube, the splash screen on drive and the App Store will be shutdown immediately after launch.
Is there any workaround besides flashing and losing everything?

Google Play services is used to update Google apps and apps from Google Play.
This component provides core functionality like authentication to your Google services, synchronized contacts, access to all the latest user privacy settings, and higher quality, lower-powered location based services.
Google Play services also enhances your app experience. It speeds up offline searches, provides more immersive maps, and improves gaming experiences.
Apps that rely on Google Play services may not work if Google Play services aren't installed or if you uninstall Google Play services.
