qesion about backup

I think I am idiot If I wait for htc ics update any more .
I want to change my original Rom to custom Rom but one concern.
I don want to loos my applications and my data .
what can I do ?
can I backup my all softwares in stock rom ?
I mean If I backup data in 2.3 rom can I use that in ICS ?
for instance gps software ,maps and places that I entered ?
second question is If I backup data in insertcoin rom can I use that in revolution rom ?
is the backup 100 percent reliable ?

As jacks said yes, but in my case I'm using Titanium Backup to have all data from my apps saved.
You just have to go S-Off, SuperCID, Root, save all with Titatnium and start all process to flash ROM's (Firmware, Wipe, ROM, kernel...)
And btw, when I started on the ROM's world 1 week ago I tried InsertCoin, did a backup on it (Angry birds xD) and when I ported all to Revolution it worked perfectly So just quite similar case here!

I guess you refer to sd card apps and data and not to system data.
In this case yes. Unless some appls may not be compatible with ICS.
Do not attempt to restore system data from GB to ICS as it will jam up your device.

Btw, take care on the 2.2 backups... I supose you are talking about Titanium backup or so isn't it? As said before you should have problem with not compatible apps, but if they can update via Google Play properly you should not lose any important data
What apps do you mean exactly, or about which one are you worried about? Just to help better

[whatsapp][need help]

Hello guys, i have a problem with the backup and restore feature of Whatsapp.
I have a Huawei Vision (android 2.3.7) and a HTC sensation running latest CM11 build..
I wanted to port my Whatsapp messages to my sensation so i've done the following;
1. backup on the Vision.
2. copying the msgstore.db.crypt6 from the Vision to the Sensation
3. installing whatsapp on my sensation.
4. when it starts for the first time it asked whether i wanted to restore my old backup. i said yes.
5. it took a while sayed "complete"(or similar) afterwards
and now there's this problem: There are no chats in the new whatsapp. everything is empty. only a few groups appear but without the messages..
i've tried a few different whatsapp build on the sensa, but everytime its the same. it says it found something but then there is nothing..
i cant use TB because vision isn't rooted.. and Helium does not work with android 2.3.7
Any Idea?
EDIT: I found the solution. I used a different Google account on the sensation than on the vision. I totally did not thought that this could effect WhatsApp. .
I changed the account to the same and deleted the other one and now my complete chats are shown.

i don't receive push notifications

specially in games i don't receive push notifications . other apps work fine except facebook and twitter .
that's happened when i upgraded my device to 6.0.1 .
that's happen on stock rom or custom rom note 7 experience

Did you installed those apps with data like restoring through Titanium Backup?

No i don't . I restored data from google account as usual.
The strange thing for example in coc i receive "your village is been raided by some one" but i don't receive any thing when upgrading has finished .

There is a glitch in notifications when you restore apps via google or by Titanium! (Sometimes in some cases)
I would recommend you to reinstall apps by download them manually using play store!
I am sure everything will be fixed.

Can you restore old SMS messages from a stock rom back onto a custom rom ?

Hi, I'm stuck on this one.
Basically I've installed a new rom ( LightROM - Oreo Android 8 ) on my now rooted Galaxy Note 8 which was originally running a stock Android 9 Pie.
Before I downgraded to Oreo using this custom rom I used 'SmartSwitch' to save my stuff to my SDCard ( perhaps a mistake using SmartSwitch to save SMS messages in hindsight ) then I proceeded with the installation of LightROM and all went well. So I then restored my old phone data using 'SmartSwitch' but It just wouldn't restore my old SMS messages, what ever I tried.
So is there a way I can restore my old SMS messages to my custom rom ? - in hindsight I should of use another app specifically for saving SMS messages, but hey ho...
I have some files left over from SmartSwitch concerning my old messages which are :
'MESSAGE_JSON.zip which contains : 'mms_restore.bk' & 'sms_restore.bk' - there's a 'MESSAGESETTING' directory also which contains a 'MESSAGESETTING.zip' which has 'encrypt_preferences.xml' etc... also I have another file called "Message.smem" which is a SmartSwitch file...
I haven't tried going into Magisk and advanced settings to set 'Preserve force encryption' or 'Preserve AVB 2.0/dm-verity' maybe that could have an effect... I'm guessing obviously, I've tried other apps and other windows programs to help but to no avail, please advise.

Restore again the stock Samsung rom and use a third party software to backup your SMS. Try Super Backup Pro: SMS&Contacts
