Question unlocked bootloader and netflix - ASUS ROG Phone 5 / 5s

Hi, i'm planning to unlock the bootloader and root with magisk but I'm having concerns about losing netflix full hd.
People who are unlocked, is your device still widevine L1?
If not, any workaround available?
Thanks

To play NF on a unlocked BL you need to disable Liboemcrypto.so in system, which makes playing FHD impossible, same goes for YouTube Movies, and Prime vid.
480p works tho.

[Q] Google Movies working on rooted devices

Is there any way that the .apk can be hacked or changed to allow playback on rooted devices? Or is it a DRM issue/cannot be done. This would be a huge +.
I'm gonna guess this is a straight DRM issue or simply cannot be done.

you guessed right.
If the previews work on your device do the movies?
The movies should work on your device if you are on Stock and have not gained superuser(root) . If you don't know what any of this is you should be fine.
I'm afraid I do know what that stuff is. But it looks like the movies would work. When does the error message come? I wouldn't ask but I never bought stuff directly from the market and I don't want to buy a movie I can't watch.

Can't play hd quality on netflix

I recently found out that a device require widevine L1 to play copyrighted content in HD from streaming services like Netflix and so(no effect on YouTube). And it turns out redmi note 5 pro(whyred) is missing L1 it does have L3(used to play standard quality) and not only this device turns out a lot of devices including likes of one plus 5, pocophone etc have the same problem and to my knowledge this is not something that can be fixed with a software update it somehow related to hardware so i would like your thoughts on this particular issue and if there is any chance that it can be fixed.??
EDIT: Just found a modded version of Netflix with hd enabled don't know if it's fully functional (can't test now) but it's s temporary fix (the Netflix version is old) but here's the link

NOTE: I am not in anyway associated with the making of the app all the credit is to the op of the above mentioned thread and i will not update this thread regardless of the future development of the modded version of Netflix
there is no way to enable L1 level security on this mobile.... Don't know about other country atleast in India we hardly use Netflix. All are busy in hotstar Jio tv Amazon prime and lastly netflix (very few people)

Well that could be their marketing strategy but still man it's a little bit upsetting knowing that the user don't have the ability to play videos in HD

Will unrooting and relocking bootloader restore Widevine L1 status?

I want to root my beautiful Nebula Blue but I came to know that it will lead to losing the Widevine L1 certification. Can anyone confirm anything about this?
Also, is there any downside to rooting the phone? Thanks in advance.
It sucks rooting so far for me it does go from l1 to l3 for me anyways I can't stream YouTube Netflix or even get my paid apps from Google play and there's an off chance WiFi will not work

That went too far. YouTube paid apps and wifi will be ok
no go ahead a let him think that. One less person the devs have to worry about who are misinformed.

Yes.
This is completely untrue. Netflix doesn't play in 1080P. 480p works and YouTube 1080p and above still work. Mobile payments still work just fine. @seanbwoi
You lose the ability to stream anything over 480p unless you're on LIKE then you get full res. It's predicated on the app your trying to stream from Netflix, Hulu, YouTube are examples. It only affects the apps that are using DRM. YouTube does not use DRM So even on L3 you get full resolution. Netflix on mobile devices ONLY streams a max resolution is 720p anyway. Wifi has no barring on resolution to L1 or L3, only the source of the stream and the app needed.
So Google Pay is working fine with Magisk Hide?
I was specifically talking about my experience it hasn't been good for me yet trying to figure how to fix my issues with wifi and the streaming apps like Netflix and YouTube and maybe if I get YouTube and Netflix to work I would be good but at the same time not having access to the paid apps from Google play store that I have is frustrating a bit. I might even consider unrooting the l3 limitations are frustrating for me personally

I have no issues w Google pay. On 6t I had to go through a ton of steps to get it to work. Now I just hide magisk and then hide pay and that's all.

Not sure what issues you have with YouTube? YouTube doesn't use DRM so no matter if you're L3 or L! you will get the full resolution no matter what device you have that is rooted. Once you are Rooted you can just use Magisk Hide from all the Google apps/services and your device will show certified in the play store.

Goggle Pay works perfectly and if you get a Galaxy watch Samsung Pay works flawlessly as well with Magisk Hide. At least it does with my Gear S3 Frontier.
Can you use Magisk Hide to get around the DRM protected apps?

No, otherwise it wouldn't matter much. The solution is yet to be found other than using modded or 3rd party Netflix apps
Cool OK, I dont use Netflix, was more just curious to see if a solution existed.

I don't have my new OP7P yet, but here is a modded apk for Netflix.
Y'all had me confused for a sec. Or, maybe I still am? I just double checked with my 6T (rooted) and Netflix, Amazon Prime and Google Pay still work fine. Even my bank app works. What am I missing here?

Netflix/Amazon still works, but you get 480p resolution only.
Google Pay always worked, someone was BSing there.
To get 720p with Widevine supported apps like Netflix and Amazon Video, you'll need the modified apk at the link I posted a few posts back if your bootloader is unlocked.
The topic title remained unanswered to me.
Unrooting and relock the bootloader will allow to restore L1 Widevine on OP7P (like it did on previous models)?

But it doesn't look 480p though? It looks clear as all hell.

Amazon Prime Video Not Showing in HD (MIUI 12.0.3, EU ROM, Locked Bootloader)

I took delivery of the Poco F2 Pro yesterday and am very happy with it so far, however one issue is puzzling me as I can't find anyone else who is suffering with the same problem. I'm running Global ROM here in the EU, version 12.0.3 stable and I haven't unlocked the bootloader etc as I don't plan to. I've used DRM Info and I'm running at security level L1, which should afford me HD in all the streaming apps. Netflix, Google Play, YouTube etc all play either HDR or HD absolutely fine. The only one that is exhibiting problems is Amazon's Prime Video app. Normally it'll come up with a 'HD' icon when playing videos which changes into HD 1080p after a short time of streaming. However, when playing films which SHOULD be HD no icon pops up at all for any HD film. The films appear to be playing in either 480-540p and no higher. I've tried removing the app, clearing its cache, setting all streaming options to the highest quality, rebooting the phone and even did a factory reset after encountering the problem but there's no joy. Is anyone else experiencing this at all? Could it be that MIUI 12 has caused an issue with the app?
It's because Amazon don't put it on white list
Use Kodi if you really want to stream in HD - they are using desktop browser's API to access HD streams, so you can use F2 Pro's L1 capability there.

DRM apps tell me my Widevine is L1. However, Netflix says it's L3. How to fix?

Title. My tablet is a Lenovo Tab M10 Plus FHD (2nd generation) and even though it is 1080p and DRM apps tell me I have Widevine L1, Netflix still plays at 540p. Netflix tells me I have Widevine L3 so I don't know who's right, two different DRM apps or Netflix, but this is quite sad and I'm looking for a fix since I use my tablet mainly for watching movies and shows.
For people who don't know how to test it, go to play keep and down load "DRM Info" App, open it and scroll down, there you'll see technology the "Security Level". If it says "L1" then you definitely're nice otherwise your tool has been affected from the replace.

It does say L1, but in Netflix it appears as L3.
