Will unrooting and relocking bootloader restore Widevine L1 status? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers
I want to root my beautiful Nebula Blue but I came to know that it will lead to losing the Widevine L1 certification. Can anyone confirm anything about this?
Also, is there any downside to rooting the phone? Thanks in advance.
It sucks rooting so far for me it does go from l1 to l3 for me anyways I can't stream YouTube Netflix or even get my paid apps from Google play and there's an off chance WiFi will not work

Yes.
This is completely untrue. Netflix doesn't play in 1080P. 480p works and YouTube 1080p and above still work. Mobile payments still work just fine. @seanbwoi
You lose the ability to stream anything over 480p unless you're on LIKE then you get full res. It's predicated on the app your trying to stream from Netflix, Hulu, YouTube are examples. It only affects the apps that are using DRM. YouTube does not use DRM So even on L3 you get full resolution. Netflix on mobile devices ONLY streams a max resolution is 720p anyway. Wifi has no barring on resolution to L1 or L3, only the source of the stream and the app needed.
So Google Pay is working fine with Magisk Hide?
I was specifically talking about my experience it hasn't been good for me yet trying to figure how to fix my issues with wifi and the streaming apps like Netflix and YouTube and maybe if I get YouTube and Netflix to work I would be good but at the same time not having access to the paid apps from Google play store that I have is frustrating a bit. I might even consider unrooting the l3 limitations are frustrating for me personally

I have no issues w Google pay. On 6t I had to go through a ton of steps to get it to work. Now I just hide magisk and then hide pay and that's all.

Not sure what issues you have with YouTube? YouTube doesn't use DRM so no matter if you're L3 or L! you will get the full resolution no matter what device you have that is rooted. Once you are Rooted you can just use Magisk Hide from all the Google apps/services and your device will show certified in the play store.

Goggle Pay works perfectly and if you get a Galaxy watch Samsung Pay works flawlessly as well with Magisk Hide. At least it does with my Gear S3 Frontier.
Can you use Magisk Hide to get around the DRM protected apps?

No, otherwise it wouldn't matter much. The solution is yet to be found other than using modded or 3rd party Netflix apps
Cool OK, I dont use Netflix, was more just curious to see if a solution existed.

I don't have my new OP7P yet, but here is a modded apk for Netflix.
Y'all had me confused for a sec. Or, maybe I still am? I just double checked with my 6T (rooted) and Netflix, Amazon Prime and Google Pay still work fine. Even my bank app works. What am I missing here?

Netflix/Amazon still works, but you get 480p resolution only.
Google Pay always worked, someone was BSing there.
To get 720p with Widevine supported apps like Netflix and Amazon Video, you'll need the modified apk at the link I posted a few posts back if your bootloader is unlocked.
The topic title remained unanswered to me.
Unrooting and relock the bootloader will allow to restore L1 Widevine on OP7P (like it did on previous models)?

But it doesn't look 480p though? It looks clear as all hell.

Netflix on Captivate
Netflix is being a beezy and only allowing their live streaming app on phones with Snapdragon processors, which the Captivate doesn't have. Is it possible to port it over to the Captivate when it comes out?
Only time will tell. They are really working hard to stop the switching on Android or lock down Android. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

If they didn't do this they wouldn't have any content to provide and netflix would cease to exist because providers would pull the content.

Netflix apk installs and opens on my vibrant from the LG system dump.
http://db.tt/XeibZ5U ^The netflix apk, supposedly. I'd test it and tell you guys if it works or not, but I don't have a netflix account :\
^ Thanks for the apk! It works but not really - I can login, view my queue, etc. But when I try to play a video it says "Sorry we could not reach the Netflix service"

I think there's a good chance they just haven't enabled streaming from the device yet. Most people are reporting the same issue
thanks for the apk. it works except for the streaming. i'm getting the same error 1005 that everyone else is. interestingly, my phone shows up on the netflix device management page as "Android Mobile (Obsolete)".
Have you guys tried PlayOn yet? It streams Netflix to your android thru media server. It works, although kinda laggy. Downfall is after 2 weeks free trial, its a pay subscription Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App

No Hardware DRM = No Netflix Streaming Hardware level DRM? Back at Mobile World Congress in February, Qualcomm had an exciting, yet troubling announcement. Their future chips would have the DRM libraries built in to run Netflix streaming. Apparently, the key to getting movie studios' blessing for Android is hardware level DRM. If you buy a phone with a Snapdragon, it might run Netflix. But if you have your eye on a phone with a Hummingbird or Tegra 2, you could be out of luck. Droid doesn't. Not all of them, anyway.

Not the ideal solution, but there really isn't one. Don't bother with using Media Server, PlayOn has a dedicated app. It lets you watch a LOT more than just Netflix (Hulu, direct channels, local media files) via transcoding. The streams/movies are sent to your PC, which then transcodes and distributes them. It creates a DLNA share for viewing streams on your home devices ... it will also, via the new Android app, let you view all of these streams over 3G. I'm currently watching Onion News via PlayOn over 3G (ie, my PC downloaded it, my Android phone app is able to view it remotely). For me, its a huge boon when traveling. It does have buffering problems at times but that is more because my DSL upstream from home is slower than 3G downloading speed.
^^ was gonna do something similar with a media server program, cant remember which but my isp upload limit is only 600kbps. someday when i have fios or other connection with symetrical upload and download this will be awesome but unfortunately that might be a while
I feel like the only person that cannot access my account. The program just closes after I click login. Im running the phoenix rom Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
[Q] Google Movies working on rooted devices
Is there any way that the .apk can be hacked or changed to allow playback on rooted devices? Or is it a DRM issue/cannot be done. This would be a huge +.
I'm gonna guess this is a straight DRM issue or simply cannot be done.

If the previews work on your device do the movies?
The movies should work on your device if you are on Stock and have not gained superuser(root) . If you don't know what any of this is you should be fine.
I'm afraid I do know what that stuff is. But it looks like the movies would work. When does the error message come? I wouldn't ask but I never bought stuff directly from the market and I don't want to buy a movie I can't watch.
Can't play hd quality on netflix
I recently found out that a device require widevine L1 to play copyrighted content in HD from streaming services like Netflix and so(no effect on YouTube). And it turns out redmi note 5 pro(whyred) is missing L1 it does have L3(used to play standard quality) and not only this device turns out a lot of devices including likes of one plus 5, pocophone etc have the same problem and to my knowledge this is not something that can be fixed with a software update it somehow related to hardware so i would like your thoughts on this particular issue and if there is any chance that it can be fixed.?? EDIT: Just found a modded version of Netflix with hd enabled don't know if it's fully functional (can't test now) but it's s temporary fix (the Netflix version is old) but here's the link MediaFire:http://www.mediafire.com/file/i08g9us89xeu1xf/netflixlatest.hdonly.apk/file CREDIT: Here's the link to the original thread http://www.mediafire.com/file/i08g9us89xeu1xf/netflixlatest.hdonly.apk/file NOTE: I am not in anyway associated with the making of the app all the credit is to the op of the above mentioned thread and i will not update this thread regardless of the future development of the modded version of Netflix
there is no way to enable L1 level security on this mobile.... Don't know about other country atleast in India we hardly use Netflix. All are busy in hotstar Jio tv Amazon prime and lastly netflix (very few people)

Youtube app
Figured this has been discussed many times, but could not find the details? Was wondering if there was a way to get a youtube app installed on Webos that will play videos without ads? I know it may need to be rooted, so if thats needed thats ok. It seems like there is a way root now with 3.5 or lower. I know with Android this is easy with or without root. So would like to do the same with LG SmartTV running WebOS.
you can probably add the urls for the ads to the hosts file which should stop them from loading

URL blocking hasn't worked for well over a year with YouTube. PiHole and the like are ineffective. You need a modified app that doesn't play ads, like you get for Android. I don't think one exists for LG WebOS.
Run youtube without ads on LG-TV Have the Youtube app installed on the LG-TV (Useing this app direcly will always show adds on all youtube videos), if you have an android phone -Then google "YouTube Vanced" -its a modded adfree Android YouTube client, works on none rooted android phones. Run the app on your phone search for the Video then use icon to cast screen to the TV. Youtube app on TV will show the video without ads. I guess you can do the same if you have iPhone and an youtube adfree app. banshee28 said: Figured this has been discussed many times, but could not find the details? any update on this subject? unfortunately casting from Vanced is not a solution anymore, TV keeps showing ads which can be skipped after 5s of viewing. What is interesting - Vanced even displays a notification that TV is going to show the ad in a few secs
I just went to https://rootmy.tv from my LG TV web browser and it installed the homebrew channel, from that I was able to install the adfree youtube mod and disable my TV checking for new updates which might lose my root. It also includes SponsorBlock in the mod so it will skip annoying subscription reminders & in-video promotions.
Can you revert back if needed? I have a 2019 model
Question unlocked bootloader and netflix
Hi, i'm planning to unlock the bootloader and root with magisk but I'm having concerns about losing netflix full hd. People who are unlocked, is your device still widevine L1? If not, any workaround available? Thanks
To play NF on a unlocked BL you need to disable Liboemcrypto.so in system, which makes playing FHD impossible, same goes for YouTube Movies, and Prime vid. 480p works tho.
