Can't wait till the Roms start getting cooked from this
5 more days to release , quite excited to look into its features
I've been doing a little bit of reading any we probably won't see any ICS based ROMs until the Nexus Prime formally releases along with the release of the source code ... Which could be anytime between December and January.
Love it, android is now more and more briliant

Dammit, you might be right, we'll need to wait 2-3 months.
Or, maybe a ROM will leak before launch, maybe they even release the Nexus Prime by OCTOBER End (to counter iPhone 4S) Or better, google may be kind enough to release the source code before Nexus Prime (Eric said ICS was due october/november)
Considering that the OEM's & Google have agreed for a 18 month time line in providing updates to their devices.... the Desire S eventually will get the official ICS - OTA. . . .although we'll already have Custom ROM's from our dev's (proxuser , lowveld , mdeejay, etc ...) with ICS b4 that
3 days to launch...
Oh nice! Hopefully HTC will be fast to release an official update
Well, as soon as the source code is available (wether it is via cyanogen or google) ill do my best to build it from source
tomorrow will be a superb day, can't wait...........yaaaaaaaaaaaa
Ice cream sandwich out today. Waiting for a full lowdown on specs...
ICS SDK is now available. Wish someone would do a dump and port it to DS

@kylon, the new OS has just been revealed today. So i doubt you are going to get a ROM with ICS already!!
But now that the SDK is available, things will be set in motion and soon we'll see the nexus prime ROM port or ROMs with ICS cooked from scratch, depending on how dev friendly the new OS is and what kind of API changes Google has implemented...
As far as Sense ROMs on ICS are concerned, we're a long way from getting there yet till HTC launch a new ICS device. I may be wrong but this is the current picture regarding ICS availability AFAIK...
Ah i thouth it was already relased
So...i ll wait htc

looking at the diff there isn't a whole lot of changes. It shouldn't take long for an aosp rom to be ready, and sense will be ready as soon as either they release a ICS phone or they update opensense.
Um i hope next android will be more powerful
I saw runny rom, there are new useful things, like finally a better browser
Add home screen on sense it s a little stupid, the screens will be 6 anyway.

$50 .. the next 6 months of posts on the general section will be "where ics rom?" "how duz i get ics on fone?" "wen ics comin?" "i copied sdk onto phone, now no boot, wut do?" "HULP FONE NO BOOT, TRIED DUMP ICS ON IT".
etc.
HI would we ever see the next android be wait it will 5.0 or 4.6 how long would samsung support us. And most importantly would we ever get the s5 touchwiz ui and maybe a few software advantages
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
I think it'll get the next version. s4 came out with 4.2.2 ,got two pretty small updates to 4.3 and 4.4. must at least get another version.
about touchwiz- i use nova launcher so it's less interesting, i even prefer the current interface

If android 4.5 / 6 and 5.0 releases S4 will get the update :/
To touchwiz ui might be be someone that ports for s4
The next version is most likely the last version
Galaxy s2 received only 4.1.2 , though it's perfectly capable to run 4.4.2
18 months cycle I believe

Since Android announced the newest version of their platform today I figured I get the ball rolling. I know our device is nearing its end of life, a question remains....
What are the chances we see the "L" version in ROM form on our phones? Since the Developer Preview SDK is being released as well as Nexus 5&7 getting it tomorrow.
Really, Lol?
Aosp based: without a doubt.
TW based: unlikely but not for hardware reasons.

Yes PA and the others will have "L" running as soon as possible. I just installed PA 4.4.4 and its awesome!
Yes I was just curious if a rom could be made from the SDK our if they needed source code which won't be available until later this year.

So I suppose that means we won't see a "L" ROM until it officially drops and we have source code available.
Atleast I can try it on my N7 today

Correct.
Just to clarify, SDK is an acronym for "software development kit". The android L developer preview being released is not an SDK.

I was messing around with PA earlier. Looks solid. I ended up screwing it up a few times after removing apps I didn't use then ended up flashing a kernel not meant for the rom. I'll check it out again another time or tomorrow lol

Nice i cant wait to try out the new L dev release. I hope we can get it running on the S3 Soon!
Here is the L keyboard:
http://d-h.st/vEu
You must delete the stock Google keyboard (LatinIME.apk) first!
Flash in recovery
if flash does not work move apk to system/app AND move the lib file to system/lib
Personally I like the G3 keyboard way better.

running slimrom 4.4.4 myself, I dont know what I'd do without slimrom, it will play a decisive roll in the next phone i get, if there's no slimrom, I won't be getting that phone.
and yes, the G3 keyboard is awesome, unless you're a swyper, the predict on the swype function is really hit an miss.

Uhh.. no...
no one has an Android L ROM, there is no source code until fall. Developers can get a minimally functional preview image for Nexus 5 or 7 and when I say minimal I mean you can see the basic interface pieces, theme, google search and keyboard and so on..
You can see a good deal of what the theme will be for the next Android release, lots of white background and flat colors, Not a big fan. Seems very Appleish to me. There is a dark version too though.
You can also see this using the development platform virtual device emulator.

you'll have to define what you think "minimally functional" is because there's people running it, calling, texting, and installing/running apps, right now, for instance: http://www.reddit.com/r/Ingress/comments/296rdk/ingress_works_on_android_l/
now I know it's not finished, and I know it's more of a beta build... but it's very functional if you ask me

Where do I get this G3 keyboard?
Google says they provide security updates for "at least" three years after a device is released, which in the case of the Nexus 5, is October 2016, or about a month from now. I believe they dropped Nexus 4 support right at three years. I'm guessing with Nougat being out, that any updates for non-Nougat devices (Nexus 5) are dead. Anyone have any insight on this?
I'm trying to figure out when to go to a custom ROM or buy a new device, and I'm aggravated because there's zero reason for Google to drop security updates for this device.
I may be wrong, but I'm not under the impression that they'll stop security updates. There won't be nougat though.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using XDA Free mobile app
Is there no way for [xda] devs to port security updates for the stock ROM for the N5?
They won't supply firmware updates anymore (bootloader, radio). But all the other security features and patches can be forked from the AOSP. As far as I know.

They do add the security patches to the custom ROMs.
I'm using Screw'd 7.1.1 on my nexus 5 and it has the Feb ,5th security patch

Custom nougat roms, sure.
I'm still waiting for nougat to mature, but would love security patches for the stock Marshmellow.
Surely I'm not the only one?

Anyone know when will be the first Custom ROM of Android O (8.0)? on Nexus 5? I ask because I want to test the new Android.
The first ROM will come out when Android O fully released in Q3 of 2017. Happy waiting.
Ok. Thanks. ;(
I think hammerhead can not run Android O, because the specifications that have no support.

What's up man? God, the O is just announced, dev previews are availble only for ARM64 Nexuses and pixels. No way to get it before source code is published. maybe no way to get it at all for arm32. (If android ONE smartphones get O we will also get O)

They'll get O, they've guaranteed support for 2-3 years so yeah, O update'll arrive to them.
Google IMO will support arm32 because of many devices with this architecture.
Can we build source code from a rom?
The first rom for hammerhead will be released after one or 2 weeks of official release of Android O for supported devices.

Sir banikgames, please go to the Android O developer page and register at developer.android.com but it's not custom though.
This is not supported device. Min. Nexus 5X.

ROMs will come sometime after source is released, no eta on that though. The first ROMs will likely be buggy though, till devs have time to work out the issues.
Although doesn't seems that hammerhead will get android o.. A lots of changes were made in the kernel side which forces the devs to backport all the features to hh kernel, which will be a headache and will take forever..
