Question Android texts vs imessage - Samsung Galaxy S21+

I am needing some help here so any knowledge is appreciated.
I have an android phone and when I text family, it always shows as one colour (the bubble is always the same)
Now I'm not good with my knowledge of this but mu partner has also got a android phone yet all our texts change colour for example sometimes it will be in a green bubble then other times a blue one... bearing in mind we are both on android and no other messages change colour on any other family conversations. My sister has an iPhone and hers shows as the same colour in the bubble throughout, so I have done a bit of research and it says online that the one colour means the one person is using imessage (used for iphones/mac) etc... so could anyone please help me on this as I want to make sure I am right. This funnily enough only happens when I am not with him in person too so any knowledge would be appreciated! We both definitely have android so I find this very strange. Please help if you know why! Thank you I'm advance ☺

When the message changes color, it means that the recipient has read it.

Contact Manager, SMS, and Dialer Quesions

I am new to WM and I love all of the customization that can be done. I am looking at a few different apps to run along with SPB Shell and I can't decide what to do. I have three apps I am looking into all with pros and cons. If anyone can help point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks!
Phone Extension
The main thing I like about this app is the fact that it has a dialer. Dialers seem to be few and far between on the Omnia (WQVGA). Everything else here is good but doesn't really jump out and grab me like the other two. When scrolling through the contacts it tends to get jumpy somtimes.
PocketCM
I love this app (especially with the htctoucher gloss theme) but it is missing two key components: a dialer and a call log (I know you can look at it along with sms, but I would like a separate one). My favorite part has to be the SMS feature. It looks so professional and I love the text bubbles. It does have a tendency to jump around and not run as smooth as the Resco Contact though. With a dialer and a call log I would definitely go with this (if I could get it to run a little smoother that would be better too). I saw that Htctoucher has a gloss dialer that goes well with the contact manager but it doesn't work in WQVGA.
Resco Contact Manager
This program runs the best of the three but I would like for it to be skinable or at least have another color option. It definitely runs the smoothest of the three, but it also is missing a dialer. I like how it has a threaded read of your text messages but I wish it had one that functioned more like PocketCM's. One that had the look with the text bubbles, and one that allowed you to type right at the bottom of the screen while still seeing the other messages. This program does run with two flaws though. The phonepad doesn't stay up when I hit the button sometimes and the taskbar displays at the top over the program.
In all I am looking for an SMS app that looks like the one in PocketCM, very professional and lets me type while seeing my old messages (I tried out SmileySMS but it's not nearly the same). If possible I would like that to be integrated into a contact manager with pictures in the contact list and a call log to show all incoming, outgoing, and missed calls. And finally a dialer that goes along with the other two. Oh and if you could get all of that to run smoothly together that would be amazing.
Thanks!
(I am know I am being picky, but I figure I would see what thoughts others had. Thanks in advance!)
Welcome to xda-devs! Glad to have you with us. I'm just telling you before the mods yell at you, you need to post all questions in the Q&A section.

Sorry about that, I told you I'm new right
Thanks!
No problem, just thought I'd warn you.
BTW, have you checked out iDialer and iContact? They're seperate programs that have been programmed to work very well together. I don't know if they support WQVGA but it might be worth taking a look.
The SMS thing is harder to do. I've been wishing for a better SMS interface for a while, the best I've seen is unfortunately not freeware, it's made by VITO.

[SOLVED] Diverted Call/Waiting Call information

Though it's not a new thing, I was very surprised that nobody have or made such an application. There are several topics on XDA related to this subject, in none there is given an answer or solution.
What I am talking about? I am talking about the display of an indicator (graphic and/or text) to show if an incomming call is diverted from another number (say you have one number that is diverted on your actual one and someone is calling the first one) or if you call somebody and your call is "waiting" cause the other party is already in a call (and has call waiting function active on his phone).
These are two things that are present in most Nokia phones, some Samsung or LG have it and also some Sony Ericsson. But I never saw it on an Android phone (maybe the Samsung owners have it, I don't know)
Is there so hard to make such an application for Android? I'm sure alot of us needs it and will even pay for it (I will). There was something created for WinMo devices called O2 Plus V2.3 that offered this functionality, I can hardly believe there's noone that can make something similar for Android. I've created a similar topic in the Legend subforum but...nothing.
This can help alot for ex if you have two numbers, a business and a personal one, and after working hours you're closing the business phone and divert it to your personal number. In case someone is calling, it's good to know if it was calling on your personal number or maybe on your business one....and there are many samples like this.
If the guys made it for WinMo devices (PPC) I'm sure it can be made for Android as well.

OK. So I've partially solved the issues. Or should I say it was solved by itself.
Doing some tests today, I saw that THERE IS an diverted call notification on my phone.
It's not included in the Android itself, nor in the dialer but I found that is showing when I receive a call made to one of my diverted numbers.
I think it is MIUI related, it is the only ROM on which this was happening. I've tested with CM7.1 right now and regardless of which number I call (the "active" one or the "diverted" one), the incoming call display looks the same. For MIUI though, things are different, there is an "Forward incoming call(s)" row below the displayed number.
I've made several tests and for sure it is indicating when you are called directly or on another number that is diverted on your number. I also attached two print screens for the normal call and the diverted one.
Maybe some other MIUI owners can confirm this, but till now no other ROMs are offering this (as far as I know) and this will make happy alot of people. Still there's no notification in case you are calling someone and you are "waiting" but that was not as important as this one.
you might want to ask a MOd to close the thread as its already solved.

Time to change things up

One of the problems I have with today's texting apps is that they are all essentially the same. Sure emoticons and group conversations are fun, but there is limited flexibility with what you can and can not do. For example, why can't we customize text layouts, embed youtube videos into our conversations, etc.
I came up with a solution by creating a basic, elementary texting app without any of the perks. What I want to do is get as much feed back as possible to build out the texting app that people want to use. Once users see that we take their ideas and implement them into the app, they will be more excited to share it with their friends.
So if anyone is interested in creating their own app, download Skoop Messenger in google play and let me know what you think. Check out the Skoop Messenger Facebook page for details.
Not sure I understand what you are proposing
that isn't already handled by email and/or IM?
looks a lot like the other sms/text apps out there already. not sure whats different.
There's a very good reason that they're all essentially the same and that's because of the age old saying -
If it's not broke, don't fix it!

With generic things like texting, the majority of people don't like change. Texting on phones is nice and simple and if too many features are added, texting will become much harder work than it needs to be.

I would like to see a talk to text app that actually works good, with the option to talk letters instead of words, another option would be like Xbox 360 where you can leave a voice message or video message, all in the same app, Maybe a way to customize and use a graphic signature instead of a text signature. Changing font of texts or colors, stuff like that I can see being used. Maybe having some music in the background when you are reading or have a text message open. A translater built in to the app, so if someone sends you a message in Chinese, you can press a button and the text then converts in english. Just throwing some ideas out there.
I don't buy into that " if it a broke dont fix it" Where would we be today if we did not constantly look to improve things? Probably in a cave beating each other over the heads with clubs and worshipping fire. This thread was started becuase someone asked for ideas on improving text messaging and all the responses have been anti-productive. Use your imagination people.

Mine wasn't anti-productive. It was truthful.
Off-topic - Even if we were still cave people, would that really be a problem? Of course not, because we'd be used to that. Yeah, mankind strides to improve things, but at lot of the time, the situation with this thread included, it's not needed.

Relax guys.
I have to agree with both. If it's not broken in any way, why fix it - it might cause problems there weren't there in the first place. The main reason something is popiular is because it works. But then again, there's always room for improvement/innovation, right? I mean, that's how we got our devices now.
On topic: i can't find the app.
Sorry for butting in. It's just my opinion.

Android 5 and light flow question

Hi all
I have just got the ota android 5 for my Nexus 5. I am trying to find a way that I can have my phone on silent (I guess this is the new none notification setting) but I still want light flow to flash when I have a sms whatsapp etc... Basically I want my phone to not vibrate or make a noise but still flash when I have text.
Is this not possible now on Android 5?
Thanks for any help
Chris
While I can't actually answer your question...
You may be best to dig into the Light Flow site http://www.reactle.com/search/label/blog On my quick look I see very little about Lollipop beyond a note that an update is coming in days -- but that's undated. If you can't find details somewhere on the site shoot Andrew (the dev) an email. I was in touch with him several months ago when he was just starting the Hell of trying to retune for "L". If there isn't an L-specific FAQ buried there somewhere you'd be doing him a (*ahem*) favour by encouraging him to post one.
