Samsung covers hardware warranty so it doesn't matter if you're rooted. I've cracked my screen and rooted and they fixed it for me no problem.

I had the same issue, phone was 2 weeks old when I took it into the samsung care centre. Fast charging wasn't working and sometimes while connected to my laptop it connect and disconnect itself. Fast charging is working perfectly since replacing the USB port.
They didn't check Knox but did go into the settings\about device\status to see if it said "Official"
Basically my advise is restore stock ROM via Odin before returning.
EDIT: Just read that you can't even connect via Odin Factory reset is your best option, unless your running a custom ROM in which case Device Status will remain "Custom" after a factory reset...

No, SuperSU would still stay unless you go in SuperSU settings and unroot your device.
Just go to samsung and say, you left it for charging and didn't know what happened.
Always worked for me!

SuperSU would stay as long as either you reflash your system using Odin or complete firmware. Or you can just unroot it in settings of SuperSU

Exactly. So FACTORY REST will not remove SuperSU as it is incorporated into system as system file. Only the user settings and apps are formatted in a factory reset. Thus, it would have no affect on Supersu. I hope your question is answered

Hi
Root is possible on Nougat but you need TWRP , follow all steps 1-10

I think he means that he has backed up in TWRP before trying to root.
Every time I try to flash with twrp I get stuck in a bootloop or in the recovery with the /data error.
Best of luck to you. Please let me know if you find a way. Thanks

LOL... Who cares what backup I'm talking about? That's irrelevant to the question, which was "does this require starting over?"
Let me try asking again, I suppose.
Does this require [mean that I'll need to be] starting over [Reformatting/wiping all data on device; 'starting' from factory settings] or could I restore a backup [the copied data from my phone to another device, in order to restore data] I made [after rooting with the method you posted]?

Relevant is to ask correctly , to the point and give relevant information , this is not the mind reading section of the forum
what kind of backup you made? Titanium?
What data you mean , user data or apps data?
If you followed the procedure in post 3 the same in both telephones( same model) and both have the same firmware restoring app and settings , user data should be possible ...data of those apps i would not restore .

Does this imply that one backup may not restore data in this case while another may? I used SmartSwitch on a PC, Titanium wouldn't let me back up without root. Are you implying that it matters which backup program I use?
I wasn't planning to back up app data such as game progress, just apps, user settings and files.
I've already started from factory 3 times on this phone and I simply didn't want to go through settings again.
Regardless I think this gives me the information I needed, I wouldn't feel so bad about restarting my phone again just to root it, if I can get all my settings and files back.

Do you mean keeping the encrypted data from the stock firmware? If so, then no. Root always changes the encryption keys. Even the methods that allow root + encryption still require a wipe at first.
Hi all,
So I really want to install the beta, but I'm not in one of the participating countried, but I've found the firmware online and I can install it through Odin. I've done this many times to root previous phones, but I don't want to lose the data on my phone after installing. Is there any option to keep the data while installing the firmware in odin?

You need to save any photos and files on your phone, either on the cloud or your PC. With a major OS update like this, if you don't do a factory reset you will have problems. Battery drain, apps force closing, spontaneous reboots.
If you don't want to do a factory reset, then you're better off not upgrading. It's not worth the misery.
FWIW: I've not seen an Oreo beta that can be flashed via Odin. Are you sure it isn't the one in the General section that you install via ADB sideload?

It's a completely stock phone? You've never unlocked the bootloader or tried to flash anything?
If that's the case, you'd be far better off contacting Asus about it. It is well within the year warranty and you may require a special cable to flash it correctly yourself. It sounds like it may be defective, so even recovering it could only be temporary.

It says they are updating the page. You probably won't hear back over the weekend and they take a couple days to reply normally. It is the safest way to restore the phone, though.
Making cables and using software that doesn't come directly from Asus for restoring from a brick is risky. It's a last resort when they say they won't help.

I suggest looking at how they did it on the ROG Phone 3 and then seeing what, if any, of that has a matching ROG Phone 5 version. This phone is only a couple months old, so there isn't a whole lot of public research yet.

If the device is under warranty and this happened without you altering anything I don't understand how they can reject it
If the device is only stuck in EDL mode but no hardware damage and has a working bootloader you can try (entirely at own risk):
1 - Make (or buy) a deep flash cable and see if you can snap it out of EDL mode by activating it a few times while the device is connected. (Chances are slim but it does work sometimes).
2 - Disconnect and re-connect the battery pack from the mainboard. The battery connector of ROG 5 is located on the right side between the north battery and the mainboard when looked from the back. You need to remove the top part of the motherboard for access to it. It's not a huge operation but requires some basic tools and some phone adhesive for closing the backcase again. Some cooling paste is also useful to repaste the heat conducting parts before closing it again (optional).
However, if the device doesn't have a working boot and/or it's really damaged then all above is useless.

It's because your device is rooted. Under most circumstances you need all the partitions to be stock to take the OTA successfully.

You can follow the directions in my thread in Post #2 starting at "How to update each month". There was a zero-day OTA. Optimally, you would've either taken the OTA (longer) or flashed the new factory image (shorter) and then rooted.

There's a discussion on this elsewhere, many reasons why one would choose to root. Fair play if it ain't for you, but multiple things can be achieved over a stock setup

.009.A2 isn't the latest factory image for the Pixel 7 Pro. Again, if you visit my thread, just a little down from the top of the first post, I list the so far three factory images available for the P7P. The first two are .009.xx, which were the initial release available for the P7P. The third one ends in .031, and is the latest factory image available for the P7P. It was a zero-day OTA, which means that it was available for everyone as soon as they received their P7P on Thursday. I have no idea if it was available before then for the users who got their phones technically before the official release date.
I'll repeat...you can follow the directions in my thread in Post #2 starting at "How to update each month" to update your phone and re-root.
Thank You so Much
