Huawei Honor 9 - what opportunities do I have for custom roms? - General Questions and Answers

Hi all,
I have a Huawei Honor 9. Recently replaced it's battery and still find that the phone in general has poor performance nowadays and not great battery life either.
The device currently runs android 9 on Huawei's EMUI v9.1.0 9.1.0.210 Android security patch 5 July 2019.
Please can you help me figure out if running a custom rom here makes sense, will get me any benefits and let's move from there?!

@renegadeandy Did you already check in the device forum?

Sorry, I don't know the device. And it seems to be slightly older. Probably, therefore the community isn't too active. Just have a look in the development section.
@jerryhou85 Sir, do you have a recommendation for our member?

I use to own a Honor 6 and I'd say not many custom ROMs for overseas versions, there are still some Chinese custom ROM for local model number, but I doubt they are working well on overseas models.
Guess it is time to move on...

Xolo X900

Hi,
According to many websites the Xolo X900 is excepted to be released really soon on Indian market (rumored for as early as tomorrow).
This along with the Lenovo K800 are the first Android devices w/ Intel chipsets.
Official Specs:
Processor: 1.6 GHz Intel Atom
OS: Android 2.3 Gingerbread (Upgradable to ICS)
RAM: 1 GB
Screen: 4.03'' (LCD 1024 x 600)
Camera: 8 MP with Flash
Front Camera: 1.3 MP
Internal Storage: 16 GB
Dimensions: 123 x 63 x 10.99 mm
HDMI TV out: Yes
NFC: Yes
Engadget review: http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/27/intels-xolo-x900-by-lava-hands-on/
I'm trying to understand where this device stands comparing to other new devices announced at MWC 12.
Only single core but it's Intel and I don't think we have comparison data between this and the different ARM processors.
Screen smaller than the current trend of minimum 4.3''.
Intel promise good battery life and everything else seems quite good so I assume mid-range class but I have no idea if it has the quality of other devices in this category like the HTC One S or Xperia P.
Would love to hear opinions about this device.
As an added question,
Would you suffice with such device or go with HTC One X? (assuming budget is not an issue).
Sounds like it has a lot of promise!
I heard the price was about Rs.22000(apx.$440). For a single core processor i think its too much when we can get a dual core for about the same price.
may be,
But guys, lava promised that this will have an ICS update soon, and all mobiles out which have dual core, do you think they are actually necessary. There are many battery dragging features in dual core. And Here, No more ARM you are getting a processor created buy Intel with 1.6MHZ Where you get 2Mhz processor provided by lg recently.( commoon intel is Legend in PC core processors), they promised that you will have the best charging life than any other mobile out in market. May be cost is bit high, but I think 18k is enough for this mobile. Which is already available.
Europe version
It will have an europe version with Orange, called Orange Santa Clara
Today i have received a package from one of our custumers and Xolo X900 was inside ;-) .... till monday i have to compare this phone with the iPhone 4s and Samsung Galaxy SIII ... i will post then some pics and facts...
It really looks nice, but with the 4 touch buttons and the hole in the display it not really seens to be up to date...
More in a few days...
Orange San Diego is Intel. Its £200... Not sure in India a I'm not Indian...
Sent from my Asus Transformer TF201 Prime using XDA Premium HD app
Orange San Diego and Intel XOLO X900 both are same except for the firmware. Orange San Diego have generic GB with Orange branding. XOLO doesn't have any branding. There is another sibling to this device in Russia. I don't remember what they call it.

If this is the price on offer, then surely this handset would not have an impact in the Indian market..
Seems overpriced

Kirin 970 SoC Announced

Kirin 970 SoC Announced
Huawei just shared details about the new Kirin 970 chipset. As you know, the Honor 9 is equipped with the Kirin 960 and the performance on this phone is fantastic. So whats new with this new chip?
Internal tests show this performance capability allows the Kirin 970 to process 2005 images per minute, which is up from 97 images per minute without the NPU. The new chipset from Huawei is similar to the previous Kirin 960 but sporting higher frequencies, being an eight-core SoC with four being Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.40 GHz and the other four being Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.80 GHz. The GPU Huawei has chosen to go with is the newer ARM Mali-G72MP12, but the company has yet to announce its clock speed.
They did, however, confirm it will have a dual ISP, but again, didn’t go into detail about its performance. It will be equipped with the Kirin 970 Integrated LTE modem (a Category 18 modem) with download capabilities of 1.2Gbps. The last bit of information that was announced at IFA this year was that it would be built on a 10nm process from TSMC. The company normally has big press events for their new chips, and since that wasn’t the case at IFA, it is likely why they didn’t reveal any more details about it.

I do know that the US variant of the SGS8 was suppose to be the 1st device released with the SD830. I have no idea why they used the SD835 instead.

Meltdown and spectre bugs

So does anyone know if huawei is affected by the newest cpu bugs?
Seeing that ARM states that cortex a72 is affected, kirin 960 is almost definitely affected.
as i know, kirin 960 meldtdown=no / spectre=yes
Every month it is some other security breach... I am losing hope in technology.
The question is: when we'll have a tool to check devices (both mobiles and PCs, any OS) for these vulnerabilities ?
EDIT: the mighty Alex Ionescu (ReactOS) published a Windows utility !

Fortnite On Redmi Note 7 pro!!!..??

As we know Snapdragon 675 has 2x Higher performance kryo 460 cores which are featured in Snapdragon 855,which are very powerful.
Fortnite can be easily playable with that specifications atleast by theory.
Is there any port that helps Fortnite to run on Redmi Note 7 Pro

Just update to miui 10.2.10
Yup I know but for some reason it's not functioning good in my rn7pro.
Everytime I start a match it starts the match and instantly it send me to the lobby ? which is very unfortunate. So I will try to reinstall it maybe some issues with the file.
Yep,it works perfectly on my Redmi Note 7 Pro, the 3D resolution is set at 75% and there is no sort of lagging or stuttering...
I'm currently running MIUI 10.8.2.0 ( Stable)(Global)
and I think the performance would improve with the MIUI 10.2.10 update...which is being rolled out slowly.

Run arm64-v8a games on a armeabi-v7a CPU

Is it possible to run arm64-v8a
games on my Redmi 9c M2006C3MG (armeabi-v7a)?
It may sound an absurd question to you experts but I googled a lot about it and couldn't be convinced that isn't possible.
Thanks a lot in advance
64-bit SoCs ( ARMV8 archictecture ) can run 32-bit apps, but 32-bit SoCs ( ARMV7 aechitecture ) cannot run 64-bit apps. If the architecture is wrong installation will just fail and app won't run.

So, that's the controversy Guan Yu. I've posted this question because after researching a lot about the subject I came to a conclusion that although this device comes with an armeabi-v7a CPU, its processor is capable to run 64bit games, if it's not already a 64bit processor.
Answering your question, any device info tool that I've installed says the arquitecture of my phone is only armeabi-v7a therefore I'm able to install only 32bit games.
To me is very embarrassing this controversy because I would do anything including rooting my phone to be able to play 64bit games on it.
Also I would like to add to my phone's specs that it is 4GB RAM, with 128GB storage.
Normally this device model comes with 2 or 3GB RAM and 32/64GB storage only.
Thanks for your contribution on trying to solve this question Guan Yu.

can you send me a screenshot about your phone specs ? Im curious about it
Well the OP's phone probably have a arm64 chipset but 32 bit software, because in that case all apps that list phone specs will recognise it as 32 bit phone.
As I know, Redmi 9C uses MediaTek Helio G35 chipset. Inside the MediaTek Helio G35 is a 64-bit octa-core Arm Cortex-A53 CPU.
The mentioned phone has a 64-bit SoC, means it can process ARMv8-2.A instruction set.
But: Whether a phone's Android OS runs in 32-bit or 64-bit mode is determined by phone's Android kernel at boottime - the kernel is the 1st thing what gets loaded by device's bootloader.

When will you take notice of fact that only 32-bit ( ARMEABI-v7a ) apps/services are supported though SoC is 64-bit capable? If you want to have true 64-bit support then you have to replace device's Android kernel by a kernel what supports 64-bit processing - and also the Android OS by a 64-bit one.
As I've asked and said in the first place, to you guys who are experts my question may seem too obvious but I will risk to take my conclusions based on the answers posted here.
To run 64bit apk on my device I need another rom, is that right?
Of course I need to root it right?
Is there any recommended rom to my device in which I would be able to run the 64bit apks?
I'm really grateful for your answers! Thank you

it is quite unfair to users , 32bit in 2022 ?, come on . I have a redmi 5 running snapdragon 450 , although it is older and performs as well as Mediatek G35 , it runs in 64 bit mode and can install 64bit games . This is a rather confusing and unfair step by xiaomi, plus the device runs a mediatek chip, so there is no custom kernel for you. so you can say you bought the scam

Also, Many apps on play Store are now dropping support for 32 bit. I think it's intentionally done by xioami so that their customers buy their more expensive devices.
Even my old Nokia 3 from 2017 which had a Mediatek MT6737 (weaker than snapdragon 410) ran on a 64 bit kernel and os.

It's also partly due to the way consumers buy phones blindly. most of them don't even know what functions their device has. And these are the consequences of it, companies take advantage of this to make more money. If consumers better understand what they are spending, the companies that make money from the blindness of customers will be eliminated and create a fairer game .

To be honest I did wanted to know this phone specs before I was buying it.
But after confirming so many other (at least to me) important features of this device model such as RAM memory, storage and it's processor, I not even gave much attention to the architecture of it, thinking that it would be obviously running both a 64bit/32bit architecture, therefore being able to run such games.
Maybe I'm not the only one who owns a device like this hoping who knows some day someone coming up with a 'magical rom solution' to it.
(the kernel stuff)
At last, I have no complain about the rest of the device capabilities which are marvelous.
I was getting ready to root it if it was the condition to make it capable of running 64bits applications.
If there's no such rom, I will try to keep it unrooted as long as I can bear MIUI and an unrooted Android.
I'm learning...
