Trying to install stock android on Galaxy J3 Orbit - Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) Questions & Answers

Have this older Samsung Galaxy J3 Orbit SM-S357BL phone. Sure it's a cheap phone but I really like it and wanted to replace samsungs bloatware with a stock android os. Is this even possible and how would I go about doing this? Tried watching YouTube videos but they're just too confusing with loud rap music playing over the videos. Thanks.

Installing stock software won't change anything, it will still have all the Samsung bloatware. Flashing stock software might get rid of bloatware from your carrier such as the Verizon based apps that are installed on Verizon's devices and other carrier based services and apps.
If you want something that is a little more lean and stripped down, that can only be done by flashing modified stock ROMs or true custom ROMs, but that requires an unlocked bootloader, custom recovery and/or root.

OK, where would I find a modified stock rom or a leaner custom rom? I guess Lineage os 16 was made for android 9 pie but can't seem to find a download for it.

Yeah, is there a custom rom that is more stripped down than Lineage or is that the best option?

You can't use any kind of custom ROM, you can only use stock ROMs based on your stock firmware that someone has modified and only if a modified stock ROM exists for your specific device model. I don't know if any exist for your device or if there is a working method to install them on your device. You'll have to research that yourself, I'm just telling you what you can and can not use so that you don't go looking for the wrong thing.

[Q] D2VZW Custom ROMs?

Okay so I'm sure that this question has been asked before, but google really didn't reveal anything helpful. I have a Verizon S3 (w/locked bootloader) that's been rooted and safestrap-ed. I've tried a few different ROMs (Liquidsmooth, AOSP, etc) to no avail, i always end up with the "unauthorized software, return to store" message and then I have to restore stock OS. Are there any ROMs i can successfully install? Am I doing anything wrong? I'd really love to find a compatible Lollipop ROM, but I'm mainly looking for something to freshen up this old thing and make it interesting to use again:fingers-crossed:

The bootloader is locked. You've soft bricked the phone as you can't flash custom roms. The only choice you have is safestrap and the few bootloader locked roms that are available with it

Going from nougat 7.1.1 back to touchwiz

Hey everyone,
I am on RR Android Nougat 7.1.1 and I want to go back to a TouchWiz rom that may be on Marshmallow.
What is the proper procedure to do this? Is it as simple as flashing a TouchWiz rom? or do I need to do something more detailed, Like using Odin?
I have flashed roms before but I have never flashed roms that was older than the current system my phone was on.
Just wipe system, internal data, cache, basically factory wipe. You don't need to Odin anything if you are on a mm bootloader already all you have to do is do a clean flash of a mm tw rom and your Done.
just got the s5 today and thinking about rooting and going to nougat. what is pushing you to go back to TW?

I just like the options of TW as well as the camera on TW. I unrooted my phone but i may root it again and try on of the note 7 ports.
Use Odin. Here is why. The only reason to go back to a stock rom is for the apps that require Knox certification. For instance, you can't use Samsung Pay/Android Pay if Knox is tripped, which using a custom bootloader will do.
I have been using the newest ROM from Samsung on the S5, and can honestly say it works the best ever. Battery life is excellent and everything for the most part works great. My only miss is the lock screen flexibility, and the customizations like not turning the screen on when I plug it in, and volume rocker configurations.
Use a custom ROM if you don't have any desire to sync a gear watch (yes I know you technically can, but it has it's issues), or use any pay services. Otherwise the Stock ROM will do you well.

Also, if you install the Xposed Framework, and an Xposed app, like XtouchWiz (and perhaps a few other Xposed apps), you'll end up with a rock solid ROM that has many of the cool features that were formerly only available in (often-buggy) custom ROMs.

Rooted questions.

Looking through the dev threads it doesn't look like there are many (if any?) custom roms for this phone, so what's all the hubbub with rooting it? I'm picking one up to replace a nexus 6, which is obviously rooted and rom'd out but other than TWRP I don't see a point? I'll gladly admit I'm no power user, but is there some advantage I'm missing? There's still no release for 8.0 unless I'm missing something.
Look for custom ROMs in the international G5 forum (https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development). Most international custom ROMs work on the T-Mobile G5 (model H830). I only tried Fulmics, which is based on the stock international rom (https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/rom-02-01-fulmics-rom-1-0-v20a-tweaks-t3530406). There's also LineageOS and others.

Ah, see now this is a good reason. I also considered piracy apps, but that's not a "good" reason to root. Is the downgrading process pretty straight forward then?
The primary advantages of rooting even when no custom roms are available are
1) proper ad-blocking
2) proper backup
3) recovery mode (full system image backup & restore)
4) properly de-bloat system. Dont just disable a million apps and be stuck with certain things that run anyway or wont uninstall. With root you can completely remove junk bloatware from the carriers.
And of course, the ability to flash custom roms if any exist. So there's still plenty good reason to want to root your phone even if you are keeping a stock ROM.

How can you root the T-Mobile G5?

Recommendation for Oreo and maybe Custom ROM

I'm not really a very advanced user, but always had rooted devices and two that I flashed Custom Roms. This is my first Samsung, finding Touchwiz to be very different from what I used before.
I bought the S7 (930F) and had the news that it was going to be updated to Oreo, so I decided waiting for the update before tinkering with it.. But the update never came. Finally this month Samsung released the update for my region, so I would like to know which would be the best way for me to start finally using my phone that I bought for over 2 months!
My phone is still with Nougat, is it better for me to get the OTA or to flash the Firmware I downloaded from Sammobile? Any of these methods better than the other in preventing errors? I always found in PCs that a fresh clean install was better than an update, but with mobiles I don't have the experience to say.
My main objective is to experiment before doing a debloat as I'm still not sure what might be useful for me on Samsung's bloat (you are welcome to point me what is useful and what is not).
I did see that some of the Customs ROMS have different camera apps and some people were complaining about this, I particularly liked the S7 camera app and the Pro option, that's what holds me back in flashing a Custom ROM atm.
I would like to Root and I find Unlocked Bootloader to be useful to have Xposed Framework and other things that I can do having it.
As I'm a relative newbie, what would you guys recommend me doing? Please help
tl;dr: I want to have Oreo, be able to debloat, want to root and unlock bootloader, not sure about Custom Rom.
Lineage if you want basic and simple (sort of like stock Android). Resurrection Remix if you're a customisation nut (not a slam... I use RR).
If you wonna full samsung u need flash base firmawre custom roms only 8.0 android
If you dnt need samsung integration (pulsometr doesnt work) you can flash 8.1 roms try cosmic os or Lineage 15

Is there a good custom ROM for the Galaxy A51 that focuses on privacy and security?

There are some custom ROMs for the Galaxy A51, but so far I have not seen a ROM without proprietary Google and Samsung software that also gets regular security updates. It would be nice if someone could answer me.
Thanks
Hello, as I modified my phone, bricking it and restoring it, the firts custom ROM I flashed was SuperiorOS.
And I also use it.
The feature of this ROM is, that you do not need to flash any Gapps: all needed system applications, like gallery and phone are already included!
The problem is, that this ROM does not support MTP, but I resolved it by flashing a custom kernel.
Recently I have decided to replace all systems apps by simple mobile tools ones; and it still works!
So, the answer is, SUPERIOR OS
