Sony Xperia 5II FlashTool not launching Xperifirm? - Sony Xperia 5 II Questions & Answers

I am using Linux Ubuntu 20 LTS to flash my Sony Xperia 5 II with FlashTool and Xperifirm. When I run the FlashTool program and click the "Xperifirm" icon, nothing happens. It is supposed to launch the Xperifirm program. Anyone know what could be causing this problem?
Do the files in the FlashTool directory need to be within the same directory as the Xperifirm executable?
My goal: To switch my phone from international region firmware to the US region (as I am in the US) so my LTE can work again.
I currently have the International version of the Sony Xperia 5 II and no longer have LTE on my phone with AT&T. They told me I need the firmware for the US version of the Sony Xperia 5 II. Any help or advice is welcome.

Generic UK firmware request

Hey all,
Does anybody have a tft for a UK generic (UNITED KINGDOM) as the only ones on here are mislabelled Ukraine files (Should say UA not UK)
There is an guide available for creating an ftf file yourself. It can be found here
You can also look for the World A (C2104) or Generic World (C2105) which is the international version.
A list of ftf files can be found here
And last, you can also use my C2105 UK ftf file in my signature, but its 15.3.A.0.26 and not 15.3.A.1.14

The guide to pull the relevant firmware from sony itself isn't working. Rooting and changing the build prop items is fine, but the update tool bounces entering flash mode with 'there is an issue with your network connection' which there isn't.
There is no UK version in that thread.
And i have no idea what version yours is

Ok I managed to get the build prop method to work today. No idea why it was failing yesterday. Either the servers were do or I did use a different root tool today. I will upload it shortly since it isn't on here.
Hi,
As far as I am aware there is no UK generic firmware here (there are Ukraine and USA etc...) but you can change your build prop values so that you get UK generic updates (that is what I have done). The latest generic firmware (.14) is not available in the UK yet (still have to wait ). When I get the update I will try and make a ftf.

Stock Firmware lookup

How and where can i find firmware according to my IMEI or product code
I want to statt from clean state like i just bought new phone from shop
I made backup from my TA too... And I'm sure that i will need it
You can't find it according to IMEI, only to customization number, you can use this to find it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...xperifirm-xperia-firmware-downloader-t2834142
Customation code? Where can i find mine?
Sent from my D2303 using xda-developers.com, powered by appyet.com
Type *#*#7378423#*#* in dialer and you'll get service menu, choose service info, softvare info and there you have customization version.
I managed to find my CDA code witch is 1280-9837 but cannot find any .FTF file named this. Filename should be Customized BAL 1280-9837.ftf!
Where can i find it? i really need it!!
XperiFirm and Flashtool can find this... maybe there is more programs?
Yes, there is Sony PC Companion, I don't know why you haven't tried with it yet. And reinstall you phone using PC Companion you can make .ftf that you need.
I have Pc Companion installed but it installs latest soft I want shipped soft 4.3...
Sent from my D2303 using Tapatalk
How can I make ftf for it? I have software downloaded via Pc Companion ready to flash... I don't know what region fw Pc Companion is ready to flash
Sent from my D2303 using Tapatalk
PC Companion should download (and flash) the ROM for your specific phone. To build a ftf from what PCC has downloaded you use Flashtool. After all I believe FTF stands for FlashTool Format.
Now I don't remember the procedure, but I've found it in google. There are few. Searching for "xperia build FTF" should be enough.

[Q] Flashing my Xperia Z3 (D6653) XperiFirm

I have a D6653 bought from HK, but I live in Philippines so I am going to flash it with Philippines market since they are both D6653 so I downloaded this via XperiFirm (see attachment #2)
I am following this guide: xperiablog.net/2015/03/17/guide-to-installing-xperia-lollipop-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool
However I am lost in the part of FlashTool and I have to put a brandingsee attachment #1)
in the guide they put "Generic Nordic", what should I put in mine? Also I only intend to flash since I want to change the region to where I currently live, can I still get future updates via OTA/PC Companion for my flashed region (PH) after flashing mine?
Branding texts doesn't matter, it's only for your own administration. Just call it customised ph or something else. It doesn't matter how you name it, the output is always the same (in this case your downloaded customised ph firmware)

So if my flash my phone for Customized PH, will I get updates for Philippines via PC Companion / OTA in the future?
Thanks.

Flashing unbranded ROM

I reently became a happy owner of black XZP and i love it but there is one thing that irritates me, it came with Orange branded software. My question is, can i flash original unbranded software (when flashtool will provide this option) without loosing IMEI,DRM keys, bravia engine and such ? And where can i find this kind of software ?
Also i heard from SONY centre Poland, that even if i do this myself somehow, it will return to the branded software with next software update as the software is tied to phones IMEI...
Would be gratefull for some extended explanation on this. Thanks.
Probably not since it probably locked to the Orange. You will need to get the network unlock code first before flashing a generic firmware.
Well I know that the XZ Premiums in Australia aren't locked, my friend got one from Telstra and then uses an Optus SIM in it.
Flashing generic FW won't cause you to lose DRM keys, etc, since only unlocking the bootloader will cause that stuff to be affected.
Also, even if the phone is network locked, I don't see why generic FW would affect that - That should only impact what carrier SIM you can use on the phone.
I used newflasher to flash customized UK version on my Vodafone branded version a couple of days ago, and received update for customized UK version this morning, updated ok, no probs.

I flashed mine two days ago on Windows 10 v1607.
I used the "old" version linked in the other thread. It is right that virus total show that there is some malware but only 2 of 64 AV product say that, I think that is a false positive.
First download your firmware with XperiFirm, pay attention on device version (single or dual sim)
Download Sony companion app and try to make a software repair (until it ask you to shutdown the phone and connect it with volume down button pressed), it will download and install Sony official flash driver (needed for flash the firmware with newflasher).
After that abort Sony software repair and download newflasher.
Go to the firmware folder extract partition.zip (this will allow new flasher to flash partition layout)
Also move away from the folder sim-lock.ta for security purpose (new flasher should have a check but bug can exist)
Copy newflasher.exe to the firmware folder
Shutdown the phone, press volume down button and plug-in the usb cable (Same instruction of Sony companion app), you should see windows driver configuration.
Wait driver configuration to finish and then run newflasher.exe as administrator
Wait until it finish (some system files flash can take minutes to flash don't worry) and check if there are errors in log.
Had problems with yellow triangle in driver but after using companion software per your instruction drivers got installed and everything went ok, flashed central eu version 1 and I'm happy now Many thanks!

Flashed European FW on my Japanese Softbank phone and No network

Guys,
I flashed Customized European android 12 firmware over my Japanese Softbank android 11 firmware using newflasher and lost network. I tried to go back to Japanese firmware using newflasher but phone device is corrupt while booting. Tried to repair using Xperia companion and it shows "Temporary device incompatibility detected". Tried using different USB cables, different PCs and MAC. But the same error message. Any solution? Please help..
