Always verify you have the latest version of SDK Platform-Tools installed on your computer before installing the Factory Image: Pixel 4 XL - coral.
If your phone is rooted and you have Modules installed and you want to 'Keep Data', remove them before you install the Factory Image:

How to remove Magisk: Open Magisk App ==> Tap Uninstall == Tap Restore Images.
If you get an error: when flashing the Factory image, try one of these options:
Change the USB port to a non charging USB port.

Attempted the update last night, when flashing Magisk Canary Patched boot.img, the touchscreen is non-responsive on boot.
Flashing the stock boot.img and the touchscreen works.
Tried flashing the full image (no -w) and OTA with same result both times. Tried switching between active slots as well, no dice.
Any ideas?

Sorry I missed all this. I just got back in front of a computer and got no emails of the @ mention. Is everything working now? My two thoughts for what it's worth would have been to sideload the OTA twice so that it hit both slots and to be sure to update the Magisk path to canary after installing the .apk and then to be sure to update magisk after changing the path.

Nope, I was on stock. I realized that I wasn't using any rooted apps anymore, so the need to have my bootloader unlocked was null and void. I re-locked my bootloader and now google pay works like a charm.
I'll add my observation here:
OTA update via magisk OTA update method works, but for some reason I kept having frozen screen after a few minutes usage. Rebooted at least 4-5 times and it worked.
I was using Taichi and its Magisk module doesn't work. Reflashing the module causes bootloop.
So I flashed again factory image without "-w", booted fine. But installing root via magisk_patched.img from R boot.img causes bootloop.
Don't understand why.
EDIT: Is there a way to clean up magisk modules now that I am on stuck on bootloader whenever I flash magisk_patched.img?

Tulsadiver's [Guide] Magisk Modules Disabler for Modules gone wrong by tulsadiver would fix it. I don't know if he has had the time to update it for Android 11 (R).
Maybe Support Safe Mode detection would help.
Do you have to use Magisk canary with Android 11? I just updated to 11, lost root, and want to add it back.

Magisk Canary Manager 20424
Yes!
I upgraded from like June 2020 build to 11 via OTA, do I just have to sideload patched boot.img as I always have been for previous monthly Android 10 updates? The only difference is using the canary version of Magisk (i'm on stable channel at the moment)

I lost root when I upgraded to Android 11 Beta and I forgot to uninstall Magisk beforehand. I left it that way with the Magisk Manager app still installed because I didn't want to do a full wipe. I didn't have any SafetyNet problem until I took the latest rp1a.200720.009 OTA and got a warning message on the first boot. I decided to try installing the latest Canary Magisk again by sideloading the patched boot.img and now I have root again and can pass the SafetyNet check.

Hey, thanks for this super-detailed guide!
I just did this to my P5, however the guide was not clear on how to get Safetynet working.
After Magisk was installed and I confirmed that the device was rooted, I went to this other thread and followed the instructions for Safetynet at the very end of the first post. The downside seems to be that the device is identified as a Pixel 3A, but it got the Safetynet test to pass. I assume that this will be fixed someday.

I don't think so. Even this method is kinda kludged. Pixel 3a is the latest version not subject to the hardware check that prevented Safetynet check.
I'm assuming OTA updates will disable this root? So don't take any?

Yes, you will lose root if you take te OTA. The only way to keep root with OTA is do #7. D..

Incorrect, Jackie. See Homeboy76's reply. I actually did a reset to factory defaults before posting this and it removed root. An OTA would do the same.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts. And thanks for this guide, it is damn brilliant.
I'm not an expert but as far as i know that's not correct.
If you do a factory reset your boot image will not be overwritten so technically root is still there.
But the magisk app will be deleted because of the factory reset, the patched boot image should still be in place.
OTA overwrites those files so then it will be fully unrooted.

I don't take OTAs . I flash factory images on Mondays. But I thought you can't even take OTAs without restoring the boot image first. Either through fastboot or Magisk itself?? Or I think you can flash the full OTA from Google's website. I'm pretty sure that will replace the boot image with stock.
My 3XL died, so I ordered a 5 unlocked from Amazon. In trying to unlock the bootloader with 'fastboot flashing unlock', I receive FAILED (remote: 'flashing unlock is not allowed'). How can I tell if I have an unlocked phone or is there something else I am missing?

Did you toggle the unlock in developer settings? If you can't and it's greyed out, your out of luck. Are you on the bootloader screen when your fastbooting? You have updated platform tools?

Unless I'm reading it incorrectly, that is no longer an option. Taking the OTA and installing Magisk to the inactive slot has been removed.

I'm reading that some devices can be done that way while others cannot. This guide is linked in #7D: https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/ota.html
I personally won't be doing it, I'll just re-root from scratch, but it does seem like an option.

Yeah, I don't take OTAs. Just was wondering for clarification purposes. Install to inactive slot is not an option on my latest magisk canary build.

Are you sure the boot.img is not overwritten?
Why?
If the boot.img was not overwritten Magisk and Magisk Manager would still be on your phone.
The reason the boot.img is still there is it is stored on your computer i.e. C:/Platform-tools folder
A Factory reset wipes the phone's data & it's Internal Storage.

magisk manager is an app, the root itself is something that is changed in the boot image.
by a factory reset the system and boot image/partitions are not touched, only the data partition and internal storage if you choose so.
that clears everything exept the boot image, that's why if people would realy want to go back to stock they have to flash a stock/factory image.
because if you do that or OTA the boot image will be overwritten by the stock one.
CASE: After flashing lineageOs 14.1 on my Lenovo A2016a40 (chipset: MT6735M) using TWRP, I lost my IMEI and Baseband version which made my phone just like a screen with no calls, no connection, no internet. so, basically I had no option than to flashing the stock ROM (eventually I need that custom ROM as that is an upgraded one). I flashed only secro.img on the custom rom using SP Flash Tool that caused a bootloop ( I again had to took help of the stock rom ).
Now, the question is:
1. Can I flash secro.img on that custom Rom, if yes, how?
2. If not, how can I get back my baseband version?
today I flashed ressurection remix 5.8.4 on the mentioned device and that caused the exact same problem as mentioned.
Well, today I succeed after 2 weeks of sleepless nights in search of a solution that elaborates how to flash a custom rom successfully on the mentioned device(i.e. Lenovo A2016a40 (also known as Lenovo vibe B)). Now, as I felt the frustration of seeing the phone without network and everything else, I want to mention the whole process I've gone through.
Here is the step-wise guide on how to flash a custom ROM on Lenovo A2016a40 (Hope it works with other devices too)
NOTE: Here in this tutorial I'm not asking you to try a custom rom, it's upon u to use custom rom or not. this tutorial is to guide those who has already stepped into the process and get into an error or so(hope not so). any damage to your device is solely your responsibility, try in your own risk if you want.
GOOD LUCK
BEFORE FLASHING:
1. Take your normally functioning device.
2. Root that device.
For Lenovo A2016a40 I've followed this neat and clean page and found it helpfull.
Here is the summary of that really clean page (the page is a bit outdated follow my paths for updated method (as in December 2020) ).
a) Download and install Magisk Manager app on your andrid device.
b) Launch the app and tap on "install" that is on the same slide as the logo, and then choose to patch boot image by tapping on "Patch Boot Image File" after which the patching process will start which will create a image file called "magisk_patched.img".
c) Transfer that magisk patched image file on your PC.
d) Connect your device to your pc where you have stored magisk patched image.
e) Now enable "USB Debugging" and "Enable OEM unlock" from Settings>Developer's option (or, Settings>About Phone>7x tap on Build Number>Settings Home> Developer's option)
e) (Assuming you have ADB and Fastboot installed, if not follow whatever google says.) Now, open cmd on the folder where you have kept that magisk pathced image by
Code:
Shift+Right Click
and selecting "Open Command window Here" and check for your device's connectivity by typing
Code:
adb devices
in cmd, and after confirmation(seeing device's serial number) type
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
to enter fastboot mode (Fastboot Mode written on screen), confirm connectivity by
Code:
fastboot devices
, being confirmed type
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
to unlock bootloader and then do press
Code:
Volume up
button to unlock bootloader. After seeing "Okay " on command window, type
Code:
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
and finally
Code:
fastboot reboot
and then press and hold
Code:
power + volume 'up'
buttons of your phone for about 10 seconds and then navigate to 'Normal mode' by using
Code:
volume up
button and confirm by using
Code:
volume down
button and wait for device to start.
f) Check Root status using Root Checker like apps
2. Backup some important system files.
This step is essentially important. I got into this from this thread.
a) Install Root Manager or similar apps and grant them root permisions.
b) Head to /dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/11230000.msdc0/by-name folder.
c) Copy the mentioned files into a safe place(generally in external sd card) or newly created folder.
Code:
expdb
nvdata
nvram
proinfo
protect1
protect2
secro
d) Now, head to /data/nvram/md/NVRAM/NVD_IMEI and copy the file named
Code:
MP0B_001
to another safe place generally in external sd card.
NOTE: All the above mentioned files are important for your device's network functioning.
e) Now, backup or replace whatever you want to keep (personal things).
FLASHING:
1. Download your preferred custom rom(.zip file) strictly for your device and transfer them into the inserted sd card or phone internal memory.
2. Install a custom reecovery.
Download your preferred custom recovery. I've used TWRP custom recovery and going to describe processes for that only.
a) Connect your device to pc and confirm connect by above mentioned method from the downloaded folder and then unlock bootloader the same way as mentioned above.
b) After unlocking bootloader run the commands as mentioned below (press "Enter" after each line)
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
c) Now, enter the menu containing "Normal mode" option by the same mentioned method and this time select "Recovery mode" and you will get into TWRP custom recovery.
NOTE: Critical error can occur if you do pull out the battery and power off the device by any other means.
NOTE. After entering TWRP you can face an error saying
Code:
/data not mounting
or something like that, in that case head toward wipe section, select "Advanced wipe", select 'Data' and select 'Repair File system', then change partition style to "ext2" and then back into "ext4" and this solves the problem.
3. Backup your system and whatever you like. (generally "secro" "nvram" & "nvdata")
4. Free space for new custom rom by entering Wipe section and selecting the following
Code:
Dalvik/ART
system
Data
Cache
Internal Stoage (if you want to or optional)
5. Install your custom rom (with Gapps and Root if you want).
Enter "Install" section select and install .zip files for custom rom, gapps and root one by one or at once, whatever you want.
AFTER FLASHING:
Welcome to your literally new phone.
while you are expecting to celebrate it, you will find some of the most frustrating errors like Unknown Basband, Null IMEI.
Now to solve those errors follow the below mentioned points one by one
1. install root manager like app and grant root permission.
2. copy and paste the 7 files that you have copied earlier (expdb, proinfo, protect1, protect2, nvdata, nvram, secro ) to the path as " /dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/11230000.msdc0/by-name", if prompted select "Overwrite", then select the files and provide them all 9 permissions you will get in permission section for those files.
3. Reboot Device.
4. now, delete the folder named "nvram" in path "/data/nvram" to get your baseband version back, as mentioned in this thread, and it worked for me, you may have to try deleting it 3-4 times continuously.
5. Reboot device.
6.Now, copy and paste the copied 'MP0B_001' file to the path as "/data/nvram/md/NVRAM/NVD_IMEI" and similarly assign all the 9 permissions asked in permission window.
7. Set APN if needed. follow this tutorial and you may not be able to save changes (hope not), if so, try putting some random name in the 'Name' field like "avghbejugcbjnsjckln".
8.Reboot Device.
Enjoy the fresh new customization.
NOTE: Keep your device's stock firmware and sp flash tool with you. it will help you get your device back from a bricking type error. try in your own risk.
I bought a cracked version of the 4/64 version of Xiaomi Qin F21 Pro unlocked bootloader, rooted, and with preinstalled fully working Google Playstore and Play services running on the official firmware 2.0.8.
But lately there's a very nice update development from 4PDA website for the device! It took me a while before I made it work and a lot of trial and error.
I will make a full detailed easy to follow step by step tutorials on how to do it with all the links for the files required.
The results will be:
A fully converted v1.1.1 custom firmware without the chinese apps
TWRP Recovery
fully rooted
certified playstore and google services fully working
THE PROCESS COULD ALSO UNBRICKED THE PHONE
Requirements:
PC
UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER Xiaomi Qin F21 Pro (MTK soc) V1.0+ V2.0+ (4/64gb ONLY)

HOW TO FIX NO/DELAYED INSTALLED APPS NOTIFICATIONS
Thanks for JawadEly for the info, it works!
1. Install all your apps
2. Install terminal emulator app and system app remover app from playstore (this will give you the apk path you want to systemize)
3. open magisk, search and intall "APP SYSTEMIZER" module then reboot.
4. open terminal emulator app
6. type "su" and grant the permission
7. type "systemize"
8. You need to set Selinux = TRUE by choosing "s"
9. once its set to TRUE, you can now systemize any app provided you know the apk path of the apps installed.
10. enter "3", here is where you put the apk path of the app you want to systemize
11. to get the apk path of installed app open the "system app remover" app you installed.
12. go to user apps and LONG PRESS an app you wish to systemize.
13. copy the apk path then go to terminal emulator and paste it. Type "1" to confirm.
14. Go to settings > apps list > clear storage of that app you transfer as system app
15. done! just repeat the proceedure for each app you wish to fix the notifications.
BEWARE! Be careful using system app remover. Don't uninstall system apps required for the android system. You might end up in a bootloop. This app is also used to remove bloatwares of OEM firmwares.

Thank you for this! I managed to get everything installed and running. Will be testing it out in the meantime! Thanks again bro! No more bloatware!
If you have a 32GB model, when using Flash Tool, uncheck the tickbox saying "userdata" as leaving this on will completely brick your device.

I'm not sure. I found that warning from a Telegram group 3 days ago as someone already bricked their 32GB model when they flashed it with userdata option left being checked

I'd suggest to use Traditional T9 IME app. Not sure if this supports Korean as most of the languages supports English, French, Russian, etc.
