How to find unknown carrier? - General Questions and Answers

Hi there,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post my question.
I got a Panasonic FZ-X1 that works fine, but unfortunately the phone is locked.
I do not know who the provider/carrier is from whom unlocking could be requested. I assume
it is a carrier from the Asian region, but I'm not sure. I stuck with checking the IMEI number, there
was no usable result. The IMEI however seems to be "clean" so far.
My question is, can somehow be found out who the carrier is, via of the device itself? (device is not rooted!)
Can one e.g. read out the current ROM somehow, in order to possibly find the title in the ROM? That could maybe
give hints.
Thanks a lot.

Bell Canada Samsung Galaxy Gio Shows no IMEI?

Hi guys,
This is my very first post and Glaxay Gio(S5660M) is my very first android phone!
I got this phone brand new from Bell. Wanted to unlock it to use on Rogers. Found out that the phone doesn't register any valid IMEI!
I press *#06# and IMEI shows up blank. The same happens when I go to setting->Phone status->IMEI. Nothing is there. The box and the lable underneath the battery show a valid IMEI number but nothing is registered INSIDE the phone.
Now, I tried a Bell SIM card and the phone works fine. But no luck with any other SIM card. How is it possible to operate a cell phone without IMEI?
Is it still possible for me to root and flash this phone to original Samsung firmware?
I have no experience in rooting or flashing but I don't mind trying the methods explained in this forum.
Please advise.
Cheers,
Seems you used the STL5 method to get the unlock code. That method is out of date and causes a large percentage of corrupt EFS. There's no known way to restore it right now; you have to take it back to your shop and act dumb.
Welcome to forums
Thread moved to Q&A due to it being a question. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.
Failure to comply with forum rules will result in an infraction and/or ban depending on severity of rule break.
This phone is brand new. It was never activated through Bell Canada nor was it unlocked or tampered with.
I believe the IMEI is there but Bell's firmware blockes it from being displayed before activation. Is it possible?
I called Bell and they said I should activate the phone, then their system loads the new phone number and the IMEI into the phone so I can use it.
Now, with a valid IMEI in the system, I can go ahead and unlock the phone using tested methods, right?
Please advise.
Could someone please help me out here?
This phone is prepaid by Bell Canada. The phone is not activated by Bell so there is no phone number associated with it. It is brand new.
I check the lock status of the phone and all gategories show as "OFF" but it does not work with any SIM card except Bell!
IMEI shows as two small empty boxes. No number or anything. Eveything else looks fine. All apps run well.
Now, what should I do? Can I root, flash and put the official firmware on it? Is it possible to do so? Some say the EFS is corrupted if no IMEI is showing. But how come the phone works with Bell SIM card?
Please help!

Go here:
http://www.asus.com/Tablets_Mobile/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300T/#support_Download_32
Go to utilities, download the unlock app V8 on your device, install and follow instructions. Be aware! No more warranty (depending on your location, mine was still under warranty after bricking mine flashing the wrong bootloader!), so make sure what you are doing after unlocking it. Read. After you think you've read it all, read a bit more! There are a lot of manuals out here to explain everything to you, but make sure that what you read is applicable to YOUR situation. I went wrong by installing a 4.0 bootloader after updating to 4.1. Installed the wrong CM, wiped and was bricked. So read, and read some more Good luck!
Oh, and after you've done all the reading and read some more, and you've decided that all you actually want is root access, you can go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982
It will explain you how to install TWRP on 4.2!!!! only!!!
After that, you can follow the rest of the info to get root or use TWRP for installing a custom ROM (like CROMI)!
Again, good luck
You can't load CM10.1 from the JB4.2.1 bootlader. They are not compatible. So that will be a fruitless task. Only CROMI and Energy Roms are compatible with the new bootloader right now.
How to download Unlock Tool V8 now

Hi there, I know this is old but I am trying to root an old TF300T. Where can I get V8 of the unlock tool? The official Asus site no longer hosts it.

Please prepare your device carefully. Deactivate your Google account firstly. Your device should be registered at the Asus server. If there are any issues, search the thread for "unlock"!
I've been trying to unlock for a couple of days. No luck though it keeps telling me there could be a network issue. I've read a few places that it's because the device isn't registered. When i try to register the device it tells me that it should already be under 'My Products' . I assume someone has already registered the serial. Though if its already registered then my device should unlock. I've contacted support hopefully they can get it registered properly then I can run the unlocker. If anyone has had any experience with this before please let me know. Thanks
I've been in contact with Asus support and they have sync's my device to their server with the MAC and Serial. The unlocker still doesn't work for me. Says network error. They asked if the motherboard has been changed. I don't think it has, but perhaps as it's the CN(China) version it won't unlock. Does anyone know a way to unlock without Asus unlocker?

Nope! There is no other way.
The trick is to factory reset the tablet, DO NOT GIVE IT A GOOGLE OR GMAIL ACCOUNT, then run the unlock tool! Good luck!
I have unlocked the TF300TG executing the unlocker tool v8 after removing the google account from tablet (without rebooting) with internet active.

Just doing a factory reset now. Asus support suggested that it could have been a MoBo change if there was an issue before, therefore the serial I gave them to activate/sync the tablet with their system would be invalid.

UPDATE: Same thing "unknown netowrk error". I guess i'm unable to sync this tablet with Asus server.
Is there another way to unlock the device without the unlocker tool?
Can't install any other ROMS or Google Play Store on this CN version, its making the tablet useless.

Did you provide to Asus the current SN of the devise? .
Please open Settings ->Status and pick up there the current SN and try the whole process again. Keep in mind there is no other way to unlock the bootloader.
Yes I provided them with the serial number (sticker on outsid of device). Also the serial number in Settings->Status. Also the MAC address in status. an App called King Root seems to have rooted the device.
I'm trying to get the play store working too.
Also Asus explained that the serial in status is not a valid one. I tried registering it myself andit does say that teh serial is invalid. only on the one on the ouside sticker is valid.
update: looks like it could be to do with being a refurbished unit, the serial starts with C2NK and does not register as valid. I found a thread about an ASUS Zenbook that serial starts with C4N0 and they were unable to register their device either.

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THE DEVICE A GOOGLE OR GMAIL ACCOUNT!!! PLAYSTORE BELONGS TO GOOGLE.
Nope never did that, was a clean tablet after full reset no Google account.
Thanks for your help, but I think it's the refurb that is the issue, Serial number of the motherboard is not recognised by support or the asus website.

Please keep in mind the current SN of YOUR Tablet is the number shown in "Settings -> Status" not on the sticker. So you have to register your tablet on Asus website like a new one after exchange MB. Seems you never did.
PS:
※Version V8_For Android 4.2 only works with TF300T 4.2 JB of TW,US,WW CN SKU. It won’t work on other devices.
Thanks for your help.
Yes I tried to register with that serial, it's unrecognised by the website and by the support team.
I read another post somewhere who has the same issue, both our serial numbers start with a similar sequence of letters.
Another user suggested this can be when a service center that Asus use - use a different unofficial manufactured part. This would be why Asus do not recognise the serial number. I bought my device refurbed so I guess this has happened to mine.

:good:
Hence I need a different unlocking method. Which seems one isn't available.
Does anyone know how to get the play store working? Without unlocking? Root only?
Perhaps I need to somehow change the serial number like this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2243521
I don't quite understand how to do this on my TF300t though.

You are welcome! However using the "Thanks" button is also greatly appreciated.
Your issue is really confusing. To clear it up I would like to recommend to you to write an email to Asus Support in order to report your issue. Provide the WiFi MAC address and the current SN (Settings -> Status ->SN) of your device. Ask them to be so friendly to unlock your device. In general it takes a few days and hopefully your tablet will be unlocked.
Yes I have done exactly that. They were very helpful over several days of communication. They told me the details are invalid even in the screenshot I sent, and that they suspect a repair on the mb or swap was done.
I've found several posts with this issue in fact with a different model.
Thanks for trying. If someone knows how to change the serial number on my device that's be great, it seems doing that may fix the issue. Some users have had success using ratchet (from my earlier post https://github.com/AndroidRoot/Ratchet/blob/master/ratchet.c)
I got this tablet from my work. I'm trying to unlock the bootlaoder but no sucess... Might asus servers has been down? This tablet's from 2012, so I don't except thaht kind of services/apps using network to unlock/register are working by now?
I read on this thread to remove google account / hard reset the tablet. It didn't helped.
If anyone has somthing to try, i will. May ADB/Fastboot command will help?

Tips/Help with Network/SIM Unlock Problem

EDIT: Nevermind, I called ATT to double check and they gave me a different code that worked. Sorry for the post.
I know this gets asked alot, but the information, situations, and answers out there are so many it is difficult to determine what needs to be done, so I am hoping someone can at least point me in the right direction.
I had unlocked my bootloader using htcdev, installed 4ext recovery, and flashed latest Cyanogenmod. I have been wanting to switch to T-mobile (I know about the possibility of not having 4g with that) and come to find out, entering the Network PUK code doesnt work in Cyanogen..
I gleaned that I needed to re-flash stock rom and then try to unlock, but I did this, and it still isnt accepting the code, argh. Do I need to relock my bootloader or do anything special? I got this code straight from ATT. With the ATT SIM in the phone, it doesnt ask for it, I restart phone with my T-mobile SIM in, and it asks for the code, but always says its incorrect. How is it checking this anyway, as it doenst seem to be communicating over the mobile network.
Any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks.

[Q] Dual SIM phone with Single SIM firmware?

I ordered a regular Moto G 16GB from the internet and it arrived today. In the seller's site there was no model declaration.
When I received the device the box mentioned XT1033 with two IMEIs and really there were two SIM slots. I didn't order the dual sim version... But I didn't care. But, the software itself doesn't look like it knows there a second slot. And after checking, CPU-Z says I have the model "XT1032 (falcon_retgb)" and the Play Store says my device is XT1032.
Not that I care so much, but how exactly?? I'm new to this but I don't want to use a device that's been rooted and unlocked before I received it.
You can check if it is unlocked by going into bootloader. (vol down+power button while phone is off)
If it is unlocked then relocked, it will show status code 2 ( not sure, can't check now, but if it is never unlocked, it will be 0)
It seems like the seller flashed single sim rom on it, as it has 2 slots but it does not show in the software.

Thanks for the answer. The status code is 0, which according to what you said means it was never unlocked. So how come the firmware thinks I have XT1032? Do you or someone has any explanation? Or a link or something?
Interesting... I have no idea, maybe I'm wrong about something. I hope someone with more knowledge can answer you

So after searching some more for info I can clarify my question a bit:
I received the Moto G from an authorized retailer (sealed with a label). It is XT1033 (I think India/Asia version) with a 4.4.2 Britain XT1032 stock ROM, and although it sounds like the retailer flashed it like in this guide, the bootloader says "Device is LOCKED. Status code: 0". So... How is this possible? Do you think someone really flashed it or am I missing something? And should I try to revert it back to the dual SIM ROM?

Contact the company first and let them know and then let them tell you what to do'n't so you do risk loosing your warranty.
Well, you could just flash the Asian firmware (dualsim) even with the bootloader locked. And no, It won't void your warranty as they are signed images and basically no way for them to know even if they cared.
After getting help from you and from other fellows from the Motorola forum, I came to two conclusions:
An official Motorola firmware can be installed on the device with a locked bootloader (while only custom firmware cannot be installed). This means anyone can flash the XT1032 firmware to an XT1033 without any problem, and keep the bootloader at status "0".
After checking the firmware installation date (see here), I can say with 99% confidence that the firmware was flashed before the device left the factory. The installation/flashing date is earlier than the date written on the box label. That means it is probably Motorola's fault.
Now I don't want to blame Motorola here, first because I'm not totally sure that this is exactly what happened and second because as far as it looks to me, it is a so minor fault that is easily reversible. In fact, I get updates faster than most dual-SIM users (the device gets XT1032 updates) but if in the future I'll need the dual function - I can switch.
Please correct me if anything is wrong.

Checking whether bootloader is locked, and unlocking it?

Hello,
I've searched through xda and other websites but couldn't find a proper answer -- my apologies if this was already asked and answered in an existing thread.
I have purchased a S6 from Amazon, but the device is branded with Swisscom, with an awful boot logo and sound, and a few specific apps.
I'm waiting for a nano sim, so for now I don't know if the phone is also simlocked.
I intend anyway to install custom roms, so I don't care much about this, however I can't find out whether the bootloader is locked or not (in which case, I'll have to send it back to Amazon I guess).
Can someone assist with this? The device is a SM-920F, I made the OTA update to 5.1.1 upon powering it (which might have been a bad idea actually, from what I read later..). Not sure what the bootloader and rom exact versions are, but I will add them to the post if necessary.
Thanks in advance!

Yes bootloader is unlocked. As far as which firmware you can use, you'll have to wait til you find out if its an international unlocked G920F. If so, you have many firmwares to choose from, just Odin and boot. Then recovery and factory reset and your CSC codes will all be lined up (that's just what I do) and happy flashing.
Thanks for the feedback.
Just got the nanosim, which registered just fine on Orange France, so the device appears to be unlocked and operational.
I'll proceed with rooting etc. in the coming days.
Cheers
