CarbonROM is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled ROMs, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best ROM we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look, build, and use our code at CarbonROM's GitHub...
What is R?
Our release of Android 11, titled CR-9.0.
It provides you with the features you need while keeping the focus on delivering an elegant, smooth, and well polished experience. R delivers a set of unique features, like a system-wide font engine that also allows for applying fonts on user apps while supporting user fonts through custom APKs generated on fonts.carbonrom.org. We are confident you'll love it, and there's many more things to discover
Disclaimer:
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! As always, make sure to do backups.
Support:
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has addressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
3) Join our Discord server or Telegram group! There, you can connect with other Carbon users and our developers, and you can get quicker responses to your bug reports. The invite link is right below.
Install Instructions:
You should start off with the latest OxygenOS stable build on both slots and then proceed to flash Carbon.
The easiest way to do that is by installing the latest Version and then copy it by flashing the copy-partitions script made by LineageOS in the recovery. (See install Instructions for the recovery)
The recommended way to install is using the CarbonRecovery linked below.
Download the ROM, recovery.img from this thread and optionally GApps, reboot to recovery using
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
Sideload the ROM. (Apply Update -> Apply from ADB -> Connect to PC ->
Code:
adb sideload CARBON-CR-9.0-R-WEEKLY-hotdogg-YYYYMMDD-HHMM.zip
Signature verification will fail. Press yes to install.
Reboot recovery (to switch between slots)
Flash GApps/MicroG through sideload like above (optional)
Factory reset -> Format data/factory reset (Make sure to have a backup of your data)
Done
Followup builds can be updated through the builtin CarbonDelta Updater or by dirtyflashing.

This ROM looks really dope. I am definitely going to have to give this one a try! Is everything fully functional?

So is the carbonROM recovery a requirement? Or can you use twrp.

Afaik, installation requires CarbonROM recovery, or one of the others for this phone which are based on LineageOS recovery. However, since you can update through Carbon Delta Updater (Settings > System > System Updates), you can flash whatever recovery you want after installation.

Simple. Enable developer options. Toggle on OEM Unlock. Toggle on USB debugging. Plug phone into PC. Open a command window. Type adb devices. If it comes back with your serial number, you can proceed. Type abd reboot bootloader. Once the phone enters fastboot, type fastboot oem unlock. Use your volume keys to highlight do unlock bootloader on the phone. Then press the power button to select. Sit and wait for a few because unlocking the bootloader will wipe your phone. To relock the bootloader, do the same process but type fastboot oem lock instead of fastboot oem unlock. The locking process wipes the phone too.

Thank you I'll try and reply soon
For a few days it seems carbonrom.org is down. I'd like to try a different ROM with the option to switch back, but the newest version I have saved is 2021-11-22 and OTA obviously isn't working either. Is there an alternate download location?

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. LineageOS does still include various proprietary hardware-specific code.

Informations :
This ROM uses source built kernel, kernel modules, boot kernel modules (vendor_boot) and vendor image.
This ROM bundles the latest firmware so you don't have to worry about updating firmware.
To use the eSIM you need to install GApps
Instructions :
Follow https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/redfin/install for how to install
Follow https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/redfin/upgrade for how to upgrade from LineageOS 18

Reporting Bugs
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
If it is a random reboot, grab /sys/fs/pstore/* (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved.

Great work @aleasto!
Can't wait to try this Rom, I was waiting for it.
Just a quick question: maybe I'm just a noob, but how can I install the zip without a dedicated recovery? I mean, I'm stuck at point 4 in your instructions.
Thanks a lot!

You can't.
Where exactly are you stuck? To reboot into recovery simply select "Recovery Mode" from the bootloader screen.
The previous steps installed Lineage Recovery.

got a "failed to read" error when flshing zip
Step 1/2 (47%)
after downloading the zip again the same error appeared but the third time it worked, !
the process in cmd hangs but the ROM is flashed. just wait until it's done.

I decided that given the issues with flashing system addons, until a solution is found by our team i'll also be sharing builds with minimal gapps included. You can already find one in the drive folder.
ROM booted with me and magisk gapps working fine.
now everything is fine, everything you need is in the firmware, many thanks to the author for the work
Hey everyone, I wanna give an update on my experience with this Rom!
First of all: great job @aleasto!
This Lineage is definitely smoother than stock rom. Seriously, my Pixel 5 feels like a true flagship now, finally the 765 is working like a charm.
_
Now, some little features I do really enjoy:
- percentage only in the status bar (no battery icon needed)
- you can hide the navigation bar (the one at the bottom of the screen) but use the phone as if it was visible
- FINALLY no google assistant swipe-up from the bottom of the screen!
There are also some little bugs, nothing serious:
- with google camera, changing from portrait mode to standard mode (and viceversa) usually slows down a little bit. Maybe it's just my gcam version.
- vocal messages: recording vocal audio messages often does not work. The recording is muted, I haven't figure out how am I able to fix it, but sometimes I am able to do it.
_
A quick guide on how to install this ROM (for lineage os newbies like me):
Unlock the bootloader (here you can read how)
Download all the files from the first post and put them in the "platform tools" folder
Put the Pixel 5 in fastboot mode and connect it to the computer
Open a prompt window in the platform tools folder
Digit these commands:
- fastboot flash boot boot.img
- fastboot flash vendor_boot vendor_boot.img
- fastboot flash dtbo dtbo.img
Now you have to reboot into the recovery from the fastboot menu, just use the volume buttons to search the recovery option and select it with the power button.
You will enter the Lineage Recovery, then select "apply update" -> "apply from ADB"
Go back to your cmd window on your computer and write:
"ADB sideload xxxxxxxxx.zip" where the "x part" is the name of the ROM zip file (remember to put .zip at the end of the command)
Just wait until the end of the installation (around 5-8 minutes) and then reboot the phone from Lineage OS recovery.
Enjoy!
Personally I wasn't able to install magisk correctly, if anyone got it working just let me know!
Again, thanks Ale for the awesome rom, can't wait to see it becoming official!
Percent only

there was a problem with the microphone, they didn't hear me, but earlier on the proton firmware it was like that too, the solution: to flash another core. Here I also decided to replace the kernel

That's a pity. I came from Galaxy S8 to Pixel 5 because I LineageOS on S8 had the same problem and I felt that switching to Pixel 5 I would be less likely to encounter problems with basic phone functions. The progress so far is incredible at such an early stage so hopefully this microphone issue can be ironed out eventually.

I only used it for a about an hour (while flashing a zillion ROMs to see what they look and feel like). It was as good as any other (ie, no obvious issue or problem, during the short period that I had it).
However, I must have been very impressed by it, because I made a backup of it (I didn't make a backup of any other, save the stock MIUI).
Dude, the custom ROM is freaking awesome, the best battery life i have seen so far, buttery smooth, and it is the smoothest ROM I have tried for games, I have tried Conquer OS, Arrow OS, Paranoid OS, Evolution X, Havoc, Android 12 beta 4 and 3, Corvus and PixelPlusUI, but AOSPK is the best of all.
Thanks for this great ROM mate.
Forgive my ignorance. Is it necessary or a good idea to unlock (Mi unlock) the device first? I just got my device this morning. First device not running Android One in my case. Appreciate your help.

thanks for this great rom, working flawlessly so far!
i have a question about something that happened during flash. The same red colored messaged showed up on the screen saying something similar to "unable to mount cache" or something like that. Should i reflash the rom or is there no problem?
edit: fixed by wiping cache through twrp
another question tho. is there a way to auto accept pin code when unlocking screen? there's nothing in screen lock options. miui had this and i'm finding this to be very annoying

That's actually a convenience feature of Miui, but since i'm using fingerprint so there's no need for auto log in anyway.
Btw does anyone knows a way to access Android/data? My favourite app to manage files is X-plore and new AOSP roms seems to restricted this app from accessing Android/data. Miui don't have this problem.
I already know many apps that can do that like Root Explorer but i kinda wanna stick with X-plore.
Also i'd love it if you could get rid of the restriction in the first place.
Interesting, will follow this project too since it have vanilla. Is possible to have a list of system apps installed in the vanilla version? It have the two tap to wake up issue too? SD card work or i'm forced to format it to be recognized?
I'm on vanilla ArrowOS atm, need really to install MIUI stock before flash it or i can simply flash over ArrowOS and then format data? Just wondering if is mandatory the MIUI and TWRP installation (since MIUI will overwrite TWRP with stock revovery). Thank you mate for your work.

Check permissions for X-plore. I added "files & media" manually. I'm not sure if this is enough, since I already granted access to data/ folder and X-plore can browse without this permission.
Hello,i am experiencing laggy scrolling in the play store and in chrome, and sometimes in the settings menu and in the ui in general,i ve not tweaked anything besides installing magisk, also tried 2 other roms and did not have this problem, battery life is the best on this one,but the scrolling issue is a big annoying,it feels like its not hardware accelerated, any way i can enable smooth scrolling myself or something like that?

Flashing instructions
Since these builds uses retrofit dynamic partitions, you need to follow these instructions carefully
NOTE: Any other recovery is not supported, only Lineage Recovery will work
NOTE2: This ROM uses FBEv2, any other recovery won't be able to properly format data making Android unbootable, also forget about any sort of decryption
Seriously, just don't use any other recovery
NOTE3: FORGET ABOUT CUSTOM KERNELS, THEY WON'T BOOT
- Make sure your platform-tools (adb and fastboot) are updated
- Download the zip, recovery image and super_empty.img from the latest release
- Flash the recovery from fastboot with
Bash:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
- Reboot to recovery
- Go to Advanced > Enter fastboot
- Connect your phone to your PC and enter the following command:
Bash:
fastboot wipe-super super_empty.img
If you get an error like "Unknown command" you don't have updated platform-tools, go back to the top of the guide
- Press "Enter recovery" on your phone
- Format data with Factory reset > Format data/factory reset
- Sideload the zip file with Apply update > Apply from ADB and on your PC enter the following command:
Bash:
adb sideload <zip file>
- Sideload any other addon you want like Google apps (these are the recommended ones)
- Reboot

First of all thanks for picking up the device and trying to make the ROM official. I just flashed the ROM so far I only noticed two things. The first is that the auto brightness adjusts quite often, it goes from bright to dim to bright and so on. The second thing I noticed is that the FOD stops working after a few seconds when the always on display is enabled.

I didn't get such errors, but you should test a few things.
1. Make your PC have adb access to mobile. When the popup or adb access shows check always allow to avoid hiccups.
2. Put the rom file inside the adb/boot folder and make sure there are no spaces in names.
3. Last check drivers or change ports and also don't put files where administrator access is required.

Other roms work fine, all drivers are installed and file is inside the adb directory.
Just wanted to add my experience of loading this on my Oneplus 8. @RogueVisual this should solve your issue as well (See step 8)
As @kurogami555 mentioned, use the instructions from Oneplug 8 Pro instead. This has the link to the Recovery.img file you need to download and flash.
I was unable to use the command 'flashboot reboot recovery' after flashing, I'm not sure if that was an error on my part but I was able to boot into recovery mode by turning off the device and holding Volume Down + Power. Do not let go of the power when it appears, use the volume key to select ADB Apply Update then let go.
Next when sideloading the ROM, I was experiencing an error "adb cannot read rom.zip". From another XDA Forum posts, I discovered that I needed to unlock Large Address Aware for adb. After doing this, I was able to successfully install Elixir and it's a lovely project. In summary, my guide for a first-time install is the following:
1. Download the Elixir Project from the above link.
2. Download the Recovery Image from the Oneplus 8 Pro Guide
3. For ease of use, rename the Elixir Project zip to rom.zip and the recovery image to recovery.img
4. With your phone connected to your PC in debugging mode, type 'adb devices'
5. Once your device is listed type 'adb reboot bootloader'
6. Once rebooted, type 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img'
7. Once complete, power off the device.
8. Follow the link on this forum post and download the laa_2xx file
9. Type 'adb kill-server' in your terminal, then run the exe file and find your adb.exe program using the 3 dots.
10. On your device, hold Volume Down+Power and DO NOT LET GO.
11. KEEP HOLDING THE POWER BUTTON, once Recovery mode shows up, use down button to highlight ADB Apply Update then let go of the power button.
12. Use the power button to select ADB Sideload.
13. In your terminal type 'adb devices' your device should be listed with sideload next to it
14. Type 'adb sideload rom.zip' and it should begin to install. Mine took a long time.
15. Format data/Factory Reset and then Reboot. You should be all done!
Is OOS Cam (48MP support) and Google Photo spoof also in this ROM?
Hello.
Anyone with no vibration of any kind?
I'm on latest firmware, 3 clean flashes same problem.
Tried another A12 firmware based custom rom, and no problem on those.
Thanks in advance.

How do I flash and set it up correctly?
Please notice that the following guide is meant for full stock devices, if you've already rooted your device you can skip it and flash directly the recovery without any extra steps.
Before starting, make sure to backup all your data and important files stored in your phone, since this procedure will format your data partition.
Download Odin3, Samsung's Android USB Drivers, the latest TWRP's tar and a disabled vbmeta image.
Make sure your phone's bootloader is unlocked, follow the guide below in case it isn't:
How to unlock bootloader ?
Open the Settings app, enter Developer Options and enable OEM unlocking (If you don't see Developer Options, enter into About phone>Software info and tap "Build number" 10 times to show it).
Enter Download Mode: to do so power off your device, connect it to a computer via an USB cable and hold both volume up and volume down buttons.
Long press volume up to unlock the bootloader. This will wipe your data and your phone will automatically reboot.
Go through the initial setup. Skip through all the steps since data will be wiped again later. Make sure to connect the device to Internet during the setup.
Enter Developer Options and check that the OEM unlocking option exists and is grayed out. This means our bootloader is unlocked and your phone has no KnoxGuard lock set.
How to install ?
Connect your phone to your PC and boot in Download Mode (power off your device and hold both volume up and volume down buttons).
Open Odin3, select the TWRP tar by clicking the "AP" button and the patched vbmeta tar by clicking "USERDATA", then press the Start button.
Reboot your phone in recovery mode: while it still plugged in your PC, hold both the power and volume up buttons.
Once TWRP has booted you need to format again your data partition in order to be able to boot in system again. To do so touch Wipe>Format Data and follow the instructions in screen.

its because of f2fs and encryption im working with a very lovely dev hes helping me decrypt theres an issue with this recovery might have to rebuild and see but for now if you want to use twrp on oneui5 you can use android 12 bootloader (flash via) i dont recommend this as stuff like vaultkeep will be broken

There is no custom core yet... And RO2RW hasn't been made for SAMSUNG yet...I am also waiting for the issue to be resolved
Just a heads up, samsung open sourced their initial android 13 build right after they send out 2023 january security update. So they are gonna follow a build late it seems.

I hope to contribute to this phone's development but in it's current state I do not have enough knowledge to be useful. Once it's matured enough and I got enough taste of oneui you can be sure to see me again mate, good luck with the work ahead.
