Disable Android update on Sprint variant - Samsung Galaxy A71 5G Questions & Answers

I just bought an SM-A716U which was advertised as an SM-A716UZKNXAA (Unlocked) but is actually SM-A716UZKNSPR (Sprint).
While I'm rather miffed about the misrepresentation, I'm wondering if this is actually a deal breaker. I don't really NEED it to be unlocked right now and it seems to be working fine on T-Mobile.
The phone is currently running A716USQU2CUA7 which is from February. I am getting reminders to update to the latest firmware A716USQU5DUG1. Since I plan on unlocking the bootloader at some point I want to stop the update and reminders.
I think the packages I probably want to disable are: com.sec.android.soagent, com.wssyncmldm and com.sec.android.systemupdate.
Since these are system apps, can they be disabled via adb to stop the update without root?

I think I answered my own question.
I just disabled com.sec.android.soagent and com.wssyncmldm and the Software Update section in Settings seems to be disabled even after a restart.

DroidWall won't do anything on Verizon rooted SGS3, but does if using Sprint's rom

It seems that the firewall app "DroidWall" from the market won't do anything on the stock rooted Verizon rom, which was rooted using GS3DebugFSRoot shown here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792342 , but if the Sprint rooted rom is used from invisiblek's rooting method from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756885 , it works just fine.
What it does under the Verizon rom is that no matter what app is selected to be disabled from data use, still gets data use with no problem. Yes, I know, firewall is enabled, and I'm in "blacklist" mode, so selected apps should be disabled. When I was originally rooted with the Sprint rom, it worked just fine disabling apps from accessing WiFi or mobile data.
It must obviously be some linux code or settings, since I'm rooted on this rom as well. I've already emailed the app dev, but thought maybe that I could find someone here in the meantime that has run across the same problem. Any dev's here might know what's causing this?
Has anyone maybe rooted using Root66, and know if DroidWall works with that rooted rom?
Thanks
*** UPDATE ***
I looked through some different firewall apps in the market, some other people on ICS 4.0.4 were also complaining that "Droidwall" or "Root firewall free" were letting apps right through, due to a "broken toolbox". I installed busybox in /system/xbin, uninstalled and reinstalled Droidwall, still no change. This must be due to something different when the su binary was added to the Sprint rom on invisiblek's root/recovery thread, option 3 "Stock" (see OP above), as opposed to the way su is added to the rom in the GS3DebugFSRoot method.
Can someone just take a look at what Droidwall does when it blocks apps from data access (3G/4G and WiFi), and look into why it has no effect on the rooted Verizon rom? What part of the rooted Verizon rom su binary files are different from the Sprint rom, which doesn't give Droidwall (or any android firewall) the ability to block data access? I tried Droidwall with the initial rooted Sprint rom, and it worked flawlessly, so it can't be caused by ICS 4.0.4, rather by the Verizon-based rom.
The main differences I've noticed between the rooted stock Sprint and Verizon roms for the SCH-I535 are:
On the lockscreen, Verizon rom says "Verizon Wireless" on the top, Sprint rom says nothing. I also went to the Sprint store, looked at their SGS3, it looked identical to the Verizon model when new, except on the lockscreen it didn't have service provider name.
Messaging (sms) app Settings screen is different
Under "Settings > About Device > Status", Sprint has "serial number", Verizon doesn't. There are probably other minor differences, but I didn't notice.
Overall, it would take a lot of looking around to find differences netween the Sprint and Verizon stock roms, it's not really obvious at first glance. The first major difference I've noticed is that firewall has no effect on the rooted Verizon version.
I don't know a whole lot about iptables in linux, could a knowledgable dev kindly look into this and see if they notice why this happens?
Thank you

I just accidentally bought a rooted HTC M8 on eBay with issues. Should I keep it?!

I am in Australia and have just recently bought an HTC M8 on eBay which was originally listed as new, and factory unlocked for $530. A few days later I found out it was actually rooted now unlocked, but was originally locked to Sprint. This was confirmed by a Sprint Connections application update etc, and the root was confirmed by the SuperSU app that was already installed in the phone. I'm recently confirmed this by the Root Checker app.
My phone's software is Android version 4.4.2, HTC Sense 6, software number 1.54.651.8, HTC SDK api LEVEL 6.17, PRI version 1.52_003, Kernel version [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT, Baseband version 1.05.20.0321_2.
The phone is pretty functional for everyday use except for the following issues:
- The internet network settings had to be manually obtained from my carrier as the phone did not automatically pick it up.
- The internet seems slower than usual (Signal strength -79 dBm 17-20 asu) compared to my old phone (Xperia Z1), despite the settings being specifically on 3G/UTMS mode which is faster than having it on Global Mode, and the required setting with my carrier Optus.
- I cannot access anything under System Updates. i.e. Update profile, Update PRL, UCICC Unlock and most importantly, HTC software update. This update takes >20minutes to search to no avail. This error message at times pops up when I try selecting Update profile: “vDM Client has stopped unexpectedly. An error report will be sent to HTC to help us improve our products”. This error screen would pop up intermittently when my internet didn't work but, I rarely see it now.
- Wifi would randomly switch on. I've turned off all system selections that may be caused on this. I haven’t tried booting my phone into safe mode to determine if an app is causing this.
I don't know much about phones (I had no idea what rooting was until I looked it up to get a rough idea), so I'm wondering if you experts could be some advice
I'm planning on keeping the phone for about 2 years and wondering what issues I may receive from having a rooted phone with the already above issues? Would the phone play up more? Can I use my current android version for that period relatively smoothly?
I am able to return my phone for a full refund but I don't have a spare phone and don't want to go in to the hassle of doing so if I can keep the phone (I would prefer to leave them negative feedback on eBay to be honest ). What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance for any asisstance.

Just reflash the stock rom and relock the bootloader and everything should be fine.

Verizon 5.1.1 with root..ish? Let me explain..

So, I have a Verizon Galaxy s6. I've got that front facing camera issue where its purple. So Verizon is sending me out a new phone. I decided, since I'm going to be getting a replacement I might as well upgrade this one to 5.1.1 and check it out since you lose root. The interesting thing is, secure settings (for tasker) works perfectly. It has root access to enable and disable gps when I open maps or Google.
Strange huh?

[G900P][Q] Any experience with OTA CPE1 yet?

At about 5:00am today, I was notified that an Over-The-Air Update is available for my stock Sprint Galaxy S5 hardware number SM-G900P. Googling got me no info on this update, and all the info Samsung pushed on me is typed at the bottom of this post.
Has anyone let it update your phone yet?
Did anything notable change after you ran the update?
Did any settings you loved go away?
Did any new settings turn up?
What Android version number do you have after the update?
Relax, and tell us about your mother.
Anything else you feel is pertinent?
Please post on this thread to let us cautious adopters (a.k.a. chickens) get a picture of how safe (or unsafe) this update may or may not be.
Good luck, everyone!! Thanks!

i wasnt aware that a PE1 baseband was released. I guess we'll just have to stay tuned to see what info turns up
i just looked on sammobile.com, and the pca baseband was the most recent one showing there. Weirdness :/
It's only 187mb. The only difference at least for me is WiFi not turning on by itself.

Thanks. WiFi turning itself on is really annoying. I won't miss that!
Edit: I ran the update. WiFi still turns itself on. The second warranty is up this baby is getting rooted.
Also the so-called lag-free camera which always took a long time to focus takes MUCH longer to focus now. Much. Longer.
I received the update notification but I was afraid to accept it for fear of losing root.
1) Does the update remove root?
2) If so, can the update be rooted?
Tried updating but it just boots into custom recovery. You must reinstall stock recovery to utilize update. Not worth it imho
Somebody know how to root on that build CPE1 or CPE2?

Question How to prevent the Android 12 T-Mobile upgrade? LE2117

Is there a way to prevent the automatic T-Mobile update to android 12? Currently, I have Android 11 installed and I super happy about it since I have no issues with it at all, but my phone is trying to update itself to Android 12 which I would like to avoid because I heard horrible stories about the newest android version on OnePlus 9. I turned off the "Automatic system updates" under the Developer Options but on the official OnePlus forum I learned that this doesn't work since the software upgrade is pushed by T-Mobile not by OnePlus (at least this is how I understand it). Therefore, is there any workaround? My phone is network unlocked (but not bootloader unlocked) and if possible I would like to permanently disable the upgrade notifications (and the automatic upgrade) without altering the original firmware too much (like unlocking bootloader or installing any custom ROMs). I heard that there is the ADB tool which could be helpful but I'm not quite sure what commands should I issue to fix my problem.
The biggest issue is that every night I have to remember to turn off my phone since otherwise upgrade will be enforced between 12am and 6am which at the beginning wasn't a big deal, however, after two months is getting bit annoying...
If you are willing to unlock bootloader, this can be fixed in 3 seconds.
Well, so let's say that I'm going to unlock the bootloader (I was expecting that I will have to do it eventually, and I found a good tutorial of how to do it here: https://www.oneplus.com/support/answer/detail/op588). How could I prevent the upgrade to Android 12 then?
The second you root it. Done
Turn on data saver and set your WiFi to metered and done! No root needed!! It's working!!
