I want to root my phone and remove any bloatware. Can I do this with a stock A11 or custom Rom and still have the cameras and infrared range finder work properly? Does anyone know of any ROMs built specifically for the Power Armor 13?
Use the "temporary ROOT" method, will say put a matching SU-binary into phone's /data/local/tmp directory and then by means of ADB
make use of it:
Code:
adb devices
adb push <FULL-PATH-OF-SU-BINARY-ON-PC> /data/local/tmp
adb shell "chmod 0677 /data/local/tmp/su"
adb shell "/data/local/tmp/su -c '<COMMAND-WHAT-REQUIRES-SUPERUSER-RIGHTS-HERE>'"

Thank you. I didn't know there was such a thing as a temp root. Do you have any advise on getting a ompatible rom for my hardware?

Hi,
Can you please give me a hand with the method you mentioned?
1. the SU binary should be the supersu binary as zip file or the folder from the zip file?
2. could you please give me an example of how this string would look like if the file was for example in partition C?
adb push <FULL-PATH-OF-SU-BINARY-ON-PC> /data/local/tmp
I tried patching the boot image with Magisk and using ADB to install it but the phone is stuck on the start screen .
Thanks in advance!
I managed to root the phone permanently. However, I accidentally formatted the NVRAM partition. Could someone send me one?
Any updates?

Because I messed up the first time I did it and had to format all with SP FlashTool, I had to restore the IMEI. I will post instructions on that too.
If you root with Magisk the boot image, it will put it in a reboot loop. I found on another forum a file that you have to flash first via adb.
It took me a week and reinstalling the software 5 times before I managed to find all I needed . Now it takes 10 minutes max to set it up.

How to Flash a ROM Without an SD Card
This is for all those who don't have a working sdcard, sdcard slot, etc. but want still to flash a new rom
Prerequisites:
Flash an Amon_RA recovery if you're using Clockwork - I recommend Darch's unofficial (CDMA Hero refer to my signature if you need it)
Access to a computer that had AndroidSDK tools on it - you'll be using ADB
Put whichever ROM.zip you want to flash in your android-sdk\tools folder - I would rename it to something simple. (My example which I'll be using for this tut is: C:\AndroidSDK\toosl\ROM.zip)
Directions:
Reboot into the Amon_RA recovery
Wipe data/factory reset, cache, and dalvik via the recovery menu
Open up cmd/terminal on your computer
Navigate to your android-sdk\tools directory
Enter the following in cmd/terminal:
Code:
adb shell
mount data
*wait a second or two* You may or may not get the "/ #" line returned.
Despite what happens press "Ctrl+C" to break the command and get back to the standard AndroidSDK\tools> directory
Enter the following in cmd/terminal:
(replace "ROM.zip" with the name you're using)
Code:
adb push ./ROM.zip /data/
*this will take anywhere from 30sec to a min depending on the rom.zip size*
Then we do this in cmd:
Code:
adb shell
recovery --update_package=DATA:ROM.zip
Wait for it to finish flashing/updating
Reboot
ENJOY
Brief rundown of what we just did:
Wiped /data/ to free up space for the zip
Put our ROM.zip onto the /data/ partition since we don't have an SD Card to work with.
Told the recovery to flash from our /data/ partition instead of /sdcard/
I did some digging around the AmonRA github to look for the commands it actually performs while in recovery I figured out exactly how to do what I wanted.
(namely THIS PAGE for those of you who are interested in seeing the exact page I found them on)
Good knowledge man. Thanks for the guide

How do you flash the recovery without an SD card tho?
EDIT: I figured it out. I will post my steps later.
Here is what I did:
Rooted phone
Attempted to push Flash_image - failed due to filesystem permissions
Steps for Flash_Image:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system/bin
chmod 777 /system/bin
exit/ctrl+c
adb shell
adb push flash_image.zip /system/bin/flash_image
adb shell chmod 0755 /system/bin/flash_image
Flashing Recovery:
adb push Recovery.img /system/bin/
adb shell
flash_image recovery /system/bin/Recovery.img
rm /system/bin/Recovery.img
reboot recovery
Then proceeded to follow the steps in this guide successfully

adb shell chmod 0755 /system/bin/flash_image
Just confirming because I am about to feature this method on the blog I write for (with credit to Stuke00 and a link to his post) and don't wanna mess up. =)
EDIT: Forgot to mention that you rock! Thanks for the earlier help too.
EDIT 2: Nevermind, did some reading on what 'adb remount' does and found out it remounts /system with read+write access so I guess this is it. Though please do correct me if I am still wrong (which I am often).

Dunno, I don't have plans for using it ever again nor have I looked at Clockwork's github - if there is one.
But it should be able to if you can find out what scripts/commands are run when you use the menu. If you want to you can check the github link I have in the OP to see where I found the commands that are run, and then look for something similar in clockwork's source.
You'd be looking for something similar to:
Code:
--update_package=root:path - verify install an OTA package file
Thanks for the awesome guide! Saves me a lot of trouble, I don't have to take out my sdcard or manually enable USB in recovery anymore!

Hi,
I have the HTC Inspire 4g with:
Software #: 3.20.502.52 710RD
Android Version 2.3.5
HTC Sense 3.0
Baseband version: 12.69a.60.29u_26.17.14.11_M
I have unlocked the bootloader using htcdev and have successfully rooted the the device but i'm still S-ON. I have tried installing some custom ROMs however after flashing the device did not boot. I understand that I have to flash the boot.img file located in the .zip file of the custome ROM. That I know how to do... My concern is that I want to try out some ROMs but as a precaution I would like to have the stock RUU file for the type device I have should I need to restore it.
I did create a backup of my ROM and have used it previously to restore the phone after installing the custom roms that haven't boot. I just want to know if I flash the boot.img file will a restore bring it back to where it was before the flash or do i need the RUU file to restore stock?
If the later please advice where I can find that particular file as I've searched but can't seem to find the one to use.
Thanks a million.

So are you saying that I would need to unlock the bootloader again then following the same steps I have now? I had the impression based off could threads I've read that there's a way to root the device while gaining S-OFF that will allow me to avoid having to manually flash the boot.IMG everytime i install a custom rom. If there's a thread I can read or a guide to follow please provide a link so that I can proceed. Oh, does all the pd98img file the same?

Also i navigated to the folder on my device however it doesn't show any boot.img file. Just a init.rc file. Could you explain just this part of it please?

DD is copy and convert. It will copy boot files and convert it into boot.img. Use adb shell to do it as shell works within phone directories. Then pull it from pc using adb pull. He is giving you the exact adb commands to do both.
Code:
adb shell
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 of=/data/local/tmp/boot.img
adb pull /data/local/tmp/boot.img

Lol... I figured those were the commands to use, was just wondering what dd stand for.. ( copy and convert ). So let me see if i understand whats happening in the code.
So firstly I need to have the the HTC drivers installed and have the Android SDK on the root of c drive. Basically the same folder used when I unlocked to bootloader. In that folder I have the adb files, should I also add the files listed in the zip file he provided? If so let me explain the code, if no please shed some light.
So adb shell starts the emulator with the device
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 of=/data/local/tmp/boot will copy and convert the mmcblk0p22 file if it is found in the /dev/block folder on the device and place it to the /data/local/tmp/ folder and call it boot.img
adb pull /data/local/tmp/boot.img I'm thinking that the computer is going to pull the boot.IMG file from the /data/local/tmp folder however where is it putting it? In the same folder that I started the command prompt from? That is the Android folder on my c drive?

You will want to work out of the platform-tools directory.
Yes adb pull will always pull to your working directory unless another path is specified. Adb shell will need root. So if you type adb shell and don't see a # sign type su to get it. When done in adb shell you will need exit so you can pull to computer. If you had to take two steps to get a # prompt then you will type exit twice.

Yes you would need to type su to see #. Adb shell root access works independently of phone root. It needs root access over adb which without an UN-secure boot img will need the su command. Exit for each level. Once for su and once for shell itself. You want to exit until you are back at Windows directory. Adb shell is at the phones root directory. The dd command is moving files within the phone, while Adb pull would be used to copy from phone to pc. I would not run that ruu if you are going to try and s off. I would run 2.47.502.7. Which I posted a link in the att stock Rom thread.

Yes go ahead and proceed as is. You should not have any issues. If not successful then try ruu. You may not be able to run the older ruu if your bootloader is newer. Which in that case just run the newer one. I beleive I used this process on a phone with the newer software but the older works for sure.

I encountered an issue while trying to pull the boot.img file from /data/local/tmp/. The command used was adb pull /data/local/tmp/boot.img I then got a msg saying the adb is not a command, if I remove the adb and send the command with just pull it says pull is not a command.
If I exit su "#" it brings me to $ and if I send the command again it says that I don't have permission. Can you advise what I might be doing wrong? Oh, I got the mmcblk0p22 file to copy and convert into the boot.img file. I was able to see it using ES File explorer on my phone.
Do I need to go in fastboot usb, does unknown sources need to be checked?

You need to exit one more time so you can see c prompt with your platform tools folder. Your still in shell therefore still in phone and not actually pulling to your pc. Only the pc uses Adb commands so you have to be at your platform tools folder. If you restart your phone temp empties too so if you can't see boot img anymore that's why.

Here's what it said "failed to copy '/data/local/tmp/boot.img' to ' ./boot.img': Permission denied
Hello,
i am working on chinese android tablet called "MID-U705B". The device came half rooted i guess. I am getting an # in the adb shell, even without running "su", right from the start of adb shell. Nevertheless i am not able to run any root apps. When i am trying to call a root shell command from my app i am getting: [java.io.IOException] : write failed: EPIPE (Broken pipe).
There is a su file inside my /system/xbin folder and i also created a symbolic link to it in /system/bin.
Does someone know how to get full root access on this devices? Whats missing?
Thanks for your help and advice!
Best regards,
Hans

If you can get root on ADB then just install SuperSU app and its binaries and you are good to go.
Flashing the attached ZIP will install SuperSU app and everything it requires to function.
NOTE: You probably need a custom recovery because the zip isn't signed.
Thanks for your reply!
Unfortunately i dont have a custom recovery because its a no name device an there does not exist a custom recovery for this device. Is there any way to install this without a custom recovery? What happens when i try to flash it from a (chinese) stock-recovery?

You should be able to flash it via fastboot.
Thats the next Problem. I cant boot into fastboot mode. When i execute "adb reboot bootloader" or "adb reboot download" the device boots up like normal, so i guess fastboot is not available on this device.
Do you know any other way?
I keep getting conflicting information on this device.
Can it be rooted on Nougat? Is a root being developed? Or has the G5 been abandoned?
I too am waiting to hear.

You can use the dirtycow exploit. This doesn't really root your phone, it allows you to flash twrp and boot you into twrp so you can flash supersu
Dirtycow worked for me on Nougat 7.0, It will run like charm if u do ur steps correctly (Dnt forget to unlock fastboot oem) I was getting an error cuz or that 😂Rookie mistake.

Any luck with this?

Here's a link to a new way to root the G5. I used the dirty cow exploit, that worked for me, it was pretty easy.
An alternate method that worked great for my h830 was to LGUP the twrped 10D tot, then use that TWRP to flash autoprime's 20A Nougat zip. After booting up once into unrooted 20A, i powered off and did factory reset (volume down with power button released for just a second at the LG logo) and entered TWRP to flash the latest SuperSU zip. Upon reboot into 20A, it maintained root and has been withstanding my assaults on system apps for about a week now.
=>>update: still rooted and TWRPd, flashed the NSS kernel, almost a month later and no problems!

8) CTRL+C
9) adb shell reboot recovery
"<wait for phone to boot up again, your recovery will be reflashed to stock>"
10) adb shell
11) getenforce
"<it should say Permissive, adjust source and build for your device!>"
12) cd /data/local/tmp
13) ./dirtycow /system/bin/run-as recowvery-run-as
14) run-as exec ./recowvery-applypatch boot
"<wait for it to flash your boot image this time>"
15) run-as su
16) dd if=/sdcard/twrp.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/recovery
Yes, it can be.

You can copy and paste everything into cmd window to make it easier.
Does this unlock bootloader?

Thanks this worked esp coz it gave me the confidence, I used this and another step by step LG V20 instructions to install TWRP and achieve root on LG G5.
Here is the link:

Thanks. I had found it, and it worked. Kinda. I have twrp installed, and I'm assuming root, but there's nothing there. Through file explorer and terminal everything is gone. Including external sd I loaded RR on with a working phone. Not good. Idk where to even go from here
Edit; Can read external sd and install packages, but "reboot system" just takes me back into TWRP. The install seems to go well (result was [1.00000]) and system is no longer blank. But can't boot into it. A little closer tho
Edit 2: If you get stuck in a boot loop to TWRP, use these commands (provided by @z28james):
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/soc/624000.ufshc/by-name/misc
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/soc/624000.ufshc/by-name/fota
All good now!
Looks like I can't delete my reply. I had a problem after rooting and I had either misread the instructions to get into recovery or they were typed wrong where I was looking. I finally found a site that gave the correct procedure: vol down+power then at LG screen release power while still holding vol down then hold power again with vol down. I was able to flash a rom at that point.
could you give me a hand if i pm you?
edit: replied in wrong thread. sorry
I just unlocked the bootloader on my Oneplus8T. Before I make any further changes I understand that it would be wise to back up the persist partition and EFS. I am trying ADB shell commands for the first time and I am getting a Permission Denied error. Can anyone tell me what step I am missing? Here is the command I am trying to use and the result:
Code:
C:\Users\xxx>adb shell
OnePlus8T:/ $ dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist of=/sdcard/persist.img
dd: /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist: Permission denied
1|OnePlus8T:/ $
After Persist, I would do modemst1 and modemst2, then exit from the shell, then pull them to my PC.
BTW, I am using a Windows PC, not Linux or Mac for this.
You need a root shell. Install Magisk.
That makes sense. I need to write better instructions for myself. Yet another reason to Install Magisk. Thank you, sir.

And if you don't want to install Magisk, then if you don't have TWRP installed use fastboot boot <twrp.img file> and then run the commands in Advanced>Terminal.

Great tip. I'll give that a try right now.
update: it just took a minute or two to type out the commands in the TWRP terminal and it worked perfectly. Thank you TWRP developers and thank you BillGoss.
