Bluetooth connectivity issues - ASUS ZenFone 7 / 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello all,
Just purchased a Zenphone 7 a month ago, software version 30.41.69.112.
I have an issue with Bluetooth and USB connection, android auto used to work on my old phone just plug in and connect with no issues, now with the Zenphone that's not possible, USB settings are grey-out so cannot switch to data transfer.
Bluetooth randomly cuts out when connected to car hands free or with the Bluetooth headphones. Audio just played through the bottom speaker and it stuck like that until I reset it.
When watching a YouTube video, it stops and audio it's back to playing just from the mono speaker.
I've tried it all, watched all the videos and read the forum posts, and even gave Asus technical team a try, one email a day from them for past 2 weeks.
The solution they offer is to send the phone back for it to be "fixed ", how will they solve a software issues not to sure?!
And to add some more issues just want to mention, sometimes no audio when recording a video, when I get a phone call it's coming up as unknown number even though caller confirms they have not changed their settings etc.
After another reset still same problem with audio , the way to connect to usb is with developer settings
What are my options, anyone ever had this issue or similar?
Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

I've posted on Asus as well no answer for 2 day ....

Update
If anyone is having this issue , probably hardware issue , not shure , returned the phone.

[Q] Sensation XE: Bluetooth headphone problem.

I am hoping somebody would help solve my problem. I have a Calypso SP bluetooth headphone. My phone shows it's connected to the device but the sound from music player still come out from the main speaker. When i got the sound to the headphone, there's this crackling sound coming out. I have tried pairing and unpairing the device a few times, but the results are still the same. It doesn't have any problem when paired with my galaxy s.
same problem here i would also like to know if there is a fix.
What ROM are you using?
IGNORE - misread your question, sorry. Many people experience poor A2DP audio quality on the Sensation. Some headsets seem to sound okay, others don't, even though they may be fine when used with other devices. Search and you'll find some info in various threads. More recent ROMs have solved or reduced the problem for some people.
Just a quick check, are you paired to your device for both phone and media audio?
To check, if you're using Gingerbread, go into Bluetooth Settings (settings/wireless and networks), then press and hold on the device you are connected to and select 'options' in the menu that pops up. This will take you to another menu where you can check which features you are connected to. Sometimes mine only connects to 'phone audio' on my headset and I have to re-enable media audio.
Thanks for the reply. My phone is on stock firmware. This problem only happened recently. Before this i never encounter this problem. I found another problem where the volume control doesn't work when I'm using bluetooth. The same problem also occurs when i use the original earphone where the volume control detects bluetooth device even when it's not paired. I tried resetting my phone earlier and the problem is still there. Maybe i'll take it to the service center and have it fixed.
Fixed, with some sacrifice..
After fiddling around the whole night, i tried to do the restore factory setting from the recovery mode. Somehow it fixed the problem. So it might be some software or an app bug that caused the problem. Now to do a some serious apps downloading and setup.

Idol 3 Bluetooth + Wifi while driving or changing Wifi

While driving bluetooth stops or some time lag voice if wifi is on. same issue noticed without wifi enable also but very less.
It seems whenever wifi changes to different network or connects or disconnects bluetooth is loosing or lagging voice.
Where as if i put it on speaker i can hear sound from speaker. I tried 5-6 different bluetooth and having same issue. i got replacement of phone also but same issue with new phone also. I could verify with older phone and it seems issue is only with Idol 3. Is any one else facing similar issue?
I tested this using a Bluetooth headset, and I am unable to replicate it. Turning WiFi on and off has no noticeable effect on playback via a the Bluetooth headset. Unfortunately , I have no way to test this while driving .

This issue is mainly happening while driving. It seems like while driving phone tries to goes from LTE to different modes and same with wifi as it tries to connect to different wifi. In this process it starts to lags voice on bluetooth and in few cases sound get disconnected.
Are you listening to music on your phone or streaming?
I haven't had any issues while driving using both Google music and slacker. Those are the only two streaming apps i use tho. I leave my Wi-Fi on all day. My deck is a Bluetooth pioneer unit, though the model number escapes me at the moment. I'm on T-Mobile BTW.
I don't drive anymore but I stream Rhapsody overnight onto my BT speakers and it never has conked out on me yet. There was one time I did lose the BT connection to the speakers before I did the factory reset but no issues with the BT since.
Issue is not with listenting music, it is during call through bluetooth while driving and having wifi and bluetooth both on.
OK I'll test that later on today. How often/with what frequency does it happen to you?

Almost 2 out of 3 attempts i am having this issue. even now in home i started call on bluetooth when wifi was off, then just put wifi one during call and voice from bluetooth started to get blurry and then other party could not hear me. and i had to disable wifi and then disable bluetooth and then on bluetooth again in phone.
Seems like issue is happening when phone is trying to connect to wifi and call is on bluetooth...
airplane mode on, wifi and blutooth on, LG HBS700 oem + netflix = audio lag. firmware update did not help. not ready to switch from s4 just too many quirks.

I do not have Netflix - but I tested with HBO Go - and YouTube - with airplane mode , WiFi and Bluetooth - And I am not seeing any audio lag - or audio interruption when switching from speakers to Bluetooth mid session. I am using Arctic P253BT headphones.
Alright I did a call today. It was only 5 minutes long but didn't notice anything. I'll try doing what you did starting a call in my driveway and turn WiFi on/off repeatedly at various time intervals.
I got replacement, but i can still see the issue with new phone also...

Sorry, my testing is put on hold as I had to send the device in to get a new screen (cracked). I couldn't get it done before because my wife kept stealing my car
I'm having kinda' the same problem. The thing is everytime I connect/disconnect there's a general lag in the phone! after one minute or so, it starts working ok

It's possible the bluetooth is unreliable because the phone gets busy as you indicated...I posted a couple of apps in the idol 3 apps section that help reduce lag and may help this...
Something I've done has made my bluetooth totally unreliable....whether linked to car or home phone system I can answer...talk for a few seconds and then it transfers the call back to the cell instead of the bluetooth device. I'll have to go back through my backups and find a version that doesn't do this.
I have demonstrated the same effect with my bt device (lg). When switching wifi networks bt microphone stop receiving so other party cannot hear me and the audio begins to break up and lag. I can switch off bt then back on and am fine till next wifi switchover. I was hoping the update from Alcatel would address this, was not the case. ;(
I also had the same kind of issue while listening music in car using Bluetooth, strangely it is happening when the WiFi try to connect to open WiFi available. And when that open WiFi is not able give internet accesses, then the phone just get stuck for some time. I have these issues frequently I need to restart my phone
I just purchase Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 and and am having similar problem. I had a Plantronics M50 connected and people complained that I was breaking up and they couldn't hear me and it happened on my end sometimes too. When I'm calling someone, the ring will be normal at the beginning of the ring and then it will fad out at the end of the ring. Store rep told me this was normal. Has never done it with any of my other phones. Bought another bluetooth to try to determine if it was the bluetooth or the phone. Bought the Plantronics E50 and the same thing happens. Alcatel says it's the bluetooth and Plantronics says it's the phone. Betty at Alcatel also says the Plantronics bluetooth are not compatible with the Alcatel, however, the store sells the Plantronics Marque II to use with the Alcatel. Anyone have any suggestions or having the same problem?
I'm having the problem in car on bluetooth where the caller sounds like they are underwater and garbled and I'm told I do too. It comes and goes, very frustrating. I tested another Android and no problem.

There's a problem with the phone. It happened after the last Android update. My bluetooth was fine until marshmallow. It's so bad I went back to my Galaxy S4. I loved the Idol for just about everything, but horrible bluetooth. People can't hear you, it's a deal breaker.

bluetooth no call audio pixel

I used to be able to hear calls and media whilst connected to bluetooth in my car. one day it just stopped working. media still works but when i make a call or receive one, there's no audio. calls ,audio, and contacts are all checked in bluetooth settings. i've forgotten devices, rebooted, reconnecting, and nothing helps.
bluetooth connects to everything fine, but no call sound over any accessory i try. got a new car and it won't work in there either. i'm on android 7.1.2 .
searched all over and plenty of people are having these issues but none of the posts i've read solve my problem. any help would be appreciated
Hey hey, I have a 128GB pixel with the same issue. I actually opened a case with Google support today about it. about 3 months back, only phone audio stopped working in my car. I was hoping the 8.0 update would fix it but it did not. I have a 2017 Honda Civic LX. I tried everything on my phone - even factory reset. Media audio works, I can play Spotify just fine but when i get a call, I can not hear the other person and they cannot hear me. The phone indicates it is connected via bluethooth... I'll try to update this post with what they find.

128G pixel here. This happens with every Bluetooth device I connect it to. 2 car stereos, 2 speakers, and a headset. All worked fine and suddenly one day... Didn't. I was hoping O Would fix it with all the Bluetooth bug fixes and changes they implemented.
Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
Darn, so the issue is a bit different. Mine works fine on a couple of other speakers I have.
Did anyone ever solve this? I've got the same issue, but it effects *all* my Bluetooth devices, but only when I am switched to my secondary user profile.
I've reset the phone app but no dice.
My phone will say it is connected to the Bluetooth device for the phone call. If I switch to speaker or phone and then back to Bluetooth, it works. Anyone else have similar?

Hi!
After hours of Googling you are the first I found who has the same error.
I have a Lenovo TAB4 8+, my kid wants to use Zoom and his Bluetooth headset but only the speaker and mic on the tablet works. I tried fresh install, without luck:
There are 4 type of users:
- Owner (primary - this is the only profile which works for calls on bluetooth headset)
- Standard Users (secondary - bt headset only supports listening: Spotify etc..)
- Child (bt headset only supports listening: Spotify etc..)
- Guest
The bluetooth headset is working with other devices, but not with this one. Unfortunately I have no other android device which supports multi-user.
Moreover, there was an hour when bt call worked from secondary user, but couldn't find out what is the problem.
Can anybody help me on this?
Best regards,
Karoly

Question BT audio trouble?

Anyone else finding that the Bluetooth audio can be a bit hit and miss, the audio has just fully cut out on me, but it displays as if it's still connected and playing via the headphones. I had no audio through either headphones, switching BT off and on, and rebooting headsets didn't solve it. Rebooting the phone brought the audio back, phew!
Out of the two headsets I have, My cheap Sony WI-C310's seem to work better, Using my jabra halo smart headset, it doesn't seem to connect media audio if it's also allowed to handle calls. I have to toggle calls off and just media to use Spotify with the headset (this could just be that headset being weird, think it got discontinued for not being great)
Anyone else having BT audio issues?
I've got a Huawei smart band 6 connected at the same time if that's a factor, it wasn't a problem on my original Nord though.
I have been facing the same issue for a while now, it's pretty random. There are times where it works perfectly and other times it either doesn't connect at all, or has a very weird delay, where it's fine in the beginning of say a video and gets a delay mid way through it. There are times where it only connects to one earphone, just issues all around. Also am using the oneplus buds z2, so honestly would expect it to work flawlessly with a oneplus device. The earphones work fine with other devices.
I've been getting random drop outs.
Both with connectivity with my car infotainment system and my cycle computer.
When I had my OP7Pro, never experienced anything of the sort when connected to these two same devices.
I've also tried enabling Bluetooth Gabeldorsche in the developer settings, and that didn't make a difference.
Will try changing the Bluetooth AVRCP version to see if that improves anything (currently set to the default of 1.5).
Has anyone else played with those settings and tested the impact?
Tested with 3-4 Bluetooth devices and no drop outs.
I notice that when I put the device in aereo mode the Bluetooth remain active, but in the latest days this problem doesn't happen anymore, maybe was a bug of the first fw, and after last update they have fixed?

Question Bluetooth interference in public places when other BT devices are around

Hi everyone,
I have paired my OP 9 with my Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch Bluetooth earphones as soon as I got the phone, about eight months ago.
The phone has received several updates and upgrades in the meantime, but an issue has surfaced recently, as the title indicates: when I'm in a public place and there are other BT devices around, the music playing from the phone into my earphones suffers interruptions and distorsions, as if the phone was trying to pair with those devices, or maybe the Melomania Touch, I don't know.
I'd tend to think it's the phone, because I've had those earphones for about two years now, and with my previous phones (Xiaomi/Poco, Samsung), I never had such an issue. Once paired, the devices would deliver a solid, steady sound, with the occasional hiccup if the phone was in my pant pocket and I turned my head in the opposite direction, but that was it.
With the OP 9, however, every time I'm on the bus or the tram, or even waiting at the bus stop and a car passes by, I hear an interruption in sound delivery and I know the car in question had BT enabled.
In the Bluetooth settings, I've unchecked the option to make my phone visible by other devices, and in the Developer options, I've limited the number of devices the phone should try to connect to to 2, the Melomania Touch (it used to be 3, the third device being a Sony WH-700 BT headset I have at home, but I cleared it from the list).
I don't see any other settings to play with to make this inconvenience go away, and the Melomania Touch app doesn't offer any option either. The earphones are set to deliver max performance (not Low Energy BT).
I'm counting on you guys on this one!
Have to tried to enable HD audio (AAC) from that device's Bluetooth settings?

Hi and thanks for taking the time!
Yes, HD Audio is enabled, though I found it in the Developer options. BT options are pretty basic on this phone, if you ask me, but sound quality is really good, especially with those earphones.
