The subject line pretty much says it: Is there no Android 5.1.1 StageFright patch (the November latest) for my "pure Android" Nexus 5 other than the Marshmallow update being offered to me on the phone?
Thanks!

No there is not, the security patches are only for the nexus devices latest android build, so the nexus 4 should receive the November 1st patch on lollipop I believe as lollipop is its android version. Since marshmallow is the nexus 5's then the security patches are applied on top of that. If you want lollipop security updates look for custom aosp roms is your best bet.
Just got to say marshmallow is above and beyond lollipop in every aspect (unless you care about xposed but I am sure that is coming soon for marshmallow).

Well, I did the Marshmallow update but quickly realized Google pooched it with regard to "Do Not Disturb" and Alarms. In Lollipop, all one has to do is set interruptions to None and tap the "until next alarm" when everything returns to normal. In Marshmallow, however, that function has been removed. Good luck getting the phone to shut up until the next alarm. If the alarm is, for example, 8 hours and 10 minutes from now, you can't specify that amount of DND time; only whole hours.
I ended up lobotomizing the phone and installing v5.1.1 again (where everything just works); but, of course, there's the StageFright vulnerability.
Another example of Google's Android developers having no clue how non-uber-geeks use their phones in the real world. It's just pitiful.
Maybe Google will fix this in Marshmallow soon.

You can set the do not disturb mode in marshmallow to alarms only or priority and total silence.
If you care about stagefight its pretty much gone in 5.1.1 and if you still care just update your phone, they are never going to update lollipop on the nexus 5 anymore.

True; however, once the alarm activates, the phone is still in DND mode. You must still either turn it off manually -or- separately define the number of whole hours (not hours & minutes) until the phone returns to normal mode.
So Google broke what they had fixed in Lollipop.
Hi
Since I flashed the Nougat update, I have a problem with the incoming call popup.
When I receive a call while using another app, and I answer the call, it opens in full screen.
I want it to be like it was on Marshmallow. (keep the call in the popup)
Is there any way to fix it?
Thx.
try with double tap on the multitask icon.
It's no good enough.
What if I'm watching a video or playing a game?
Instead of moving to the call activity -> turn on the speaker -> go back to the privious app, I want to keep the call in the small popup like it was before.
call on pop-up dialog box seems to have been removed since update.
The phone answering issue was the first thing I noticed with the Nougat update.
I loved that feature, I can't believe they got rid of it.
But yet the messenger is still like that.
Are we sure that there is no way to get that feature back?
I have been looking everywhere for a fix to this problem. I loved that I could play, browse or do anything without an incoming call interrupting me.
Is there really no way of changing it back?
At the very least, I hope that they bring it back on another update.
Hoping there's a fix. I don't always want to answer the phone when I'm doing something. It was easy to ignore the call before, but now it pops up full screen and when I decline the call it locks my screen.
I had been looking everywhere for this setting thinking it was reverted. Now I know it was just removed. I hope they patch it back in.
Just got an update from At&t
October update unfortunately. It's a month late, but damn better than the August one we've been living with. I can finally turn on my wifi and Bluetooth in public again!
I didn't get it yet. Hopefully soon. Smart switch is still telling me the August update is the newest.
Here's the particulars for this update. One thing I did notice though is that the Google Security patch for October does not address the KRACK problem and they did not patch that until the November Security Patch. Question is did Samsung patch it on their own outside of the Google Security Patch?

I'm getting system ui has stopped keeps popping up after update even in safe mode! How do I get back in?!
Yes the bixby key option is gone in the newest update unless you clear the cache and data from all the bixby apps first but even when it reappears and you uncheck it the button still doesn't disable.
I can still enable and disable the bixby hard key after the update.
There was a bixby update in the Galaxy store to fix the button toggle issue with new Nov update.
Does this update effect ability to root in the future? Just got the s8. Coming from LG v20 which lost root ability after update
Another Update
K , oil p8
I just got the update to 8.1 on my Pixel 2 XL yesterday and saw the update to Android Wear on my Huawei Watch 2 just now. It looks like I've got the new notification vibration strength setting but I can't find the "Touch lock" option anywhere. It's supposed to be in "Settings > Display" underneath the "Always-on screen" option, but I don't have it.
Anybody else having this issue since getting the upgrade? Can you guys see the "Touch lock" option?
Are you saying you got the Oreo Wear update on your HW2?
In my Watch, which has the N7176C build (the last Nougat build with August patch which already has vibration strength feature) , screen lock feature is in "Personalize" (don't know the exact translation since my Watch is set in french).

the option that op is talking about is in new anroid wear oreo, and to OP, no there isnt oreo update yet you should check your settings and see if the watch says 7.1 or 8.0

I think this was my original problem. I hadn't gone digging around for the vibration strength feature before this latest update so I just assumed it was associated with the Android Oreo update. I probably only just got the August patch and like Kianush suggested, I looked at my system versions and it's still Android OS 7.1.1 with Android Wear at 2.7.0.178645119.
Sorry for the dumb post! I guess I just got too excited about getting the update and didn't realize what I already had.
Swipe down will on the watch face to pull up the toggles... Second row first one will lock the display from touch and motion activation and will not turn back on until the power button is pressed...
Posting message to get trophy.

Today comes the OTA Update Magic 4.0 on View 20 PCT L29 8GB/256GB (11.0.0.138) in Austria
Me too. Going through settings didn't work for me, had to go through support app.
Since update I haven't been able to disable automatic carrier selection. When I try to turn it off, it just stays on the Searching ... prompt forever and nothing happens. I know it usually takes a while to show all the available networks, but it literally takes forever, all you see is your battery percentage go down.
Anyone else with the same problem?

Has Huawei said anything about updating this phone to Android 11?
I have a feeling they want people to stick to their old phones while they wait for the Huawei ban to be lifted but now I am confused with Honor no longer being a Huawei brand or whatever.
To rephrase: I am really annoyed that Huawei phones and tablets have gone from the Western markets as this phone and the M5 tablet are the best Android devices I have ever had and I want to stick with them as long as possible.
What are you on about? The Android 11 update is live already.

For honor v20 recent magic ui 4.0 update is on android 10 base.
I think this is the last big update for our v20 devices, because this year phone will have 3 years so it is considered 'old' and nobody knows when/if the ban will be lifted, no company is waiting years and holding its recourses just to maybe develop a newest android update port for a 3+ year old model if they just can develop a new model with all the new things.
So yea.. I most deffenetly wont give hopes up to see next (magic 4.5 or 5.0 big android update for v20) especially when huawei is pushing its harmony OS, maybe in 2021 Q3/Q4 we will see some kind of push in this direction.. That is if the v20 will make the cut because nothing official is made.
Oh and checked update normally i had nothing, checked with support app and wola! now i have v11.0.0.137
I had the 11.0.0.137 EMUI4 update waiting to install when I got up this morning.
anyone else have an annoying volume button icon thing?
i used to press up/down, and could from there change it to vibrate only, silent etc, now the volume control only adjusts volume for media
Go to Settings > Sounds & vibration > Default volume button control.
You can choose between Media and Ringtone there.
I get what you mean about the vibrate/silent options though. Tapping the settings cog on the volume indicator takes you to the Sounds & vibration settings, where there's separate toggles for vibrate and silent.
Fastest way I use it is to have the Sound icon on the quick settings menu. Tap it once makes it vibrate only. tap again makes it silent. Tap it one more time turns sound back on again.
Got the 11.0.0.143 update today over OTA. In changelog android security update(March) and new huawei apps is mentioned and update is 1.02GB, and huawei apps can be uninstalled.
Yep, I got 11.0.0.143 today as well.
And promptly uninstalled the new Huawei apps.
