November update out - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Just got an update from At&t

October update unfortunately. It's a month late, but damn better than the August one we've been living with. I can finally turn on my wifi and Bluetooth in public again!

I didn't get it yet. Hopefully soon. Smart switch is still telling me the August update is the newest.

Here's the particulars for this update. One thing I did notice though is that the Google Security patch for October does not address the KRACK problem and they did not patch that until the November Security Patch. Question is did Samsung patch it on their own outside of the Google Security Patch?

Seriously? Haha I never turned mine off

Does it mess with disabled Bixby or not?

I no longer have the ability to turn it off. Back to BxActions

I'm getting system ui has stopped keeps popping up after update even in safe mode! How do I get back in?!

Yes the bixby key option is gone in the newest update unless you clear the cache and data from all the bixby apps first but even when it reappears and you uncheck it the button still doesn't disable.

I can still enable and disable the bixby hard key after the update.

There was a bixby update in the Galaxy store to fix the button toggle issue with new Nov update.

Does this update effect ability to root in the future? Just got the s8. Coming from LG v20 which lost root ability after update

Touch Lock on the new Android Wear?

I just got the update to 8.1 on my Pixel 2 XL yesterday and saw the update to Android Wear on my Huawei Watch 2 just now. It looks like I've got the new notification vibration strength setting but I can't find the "Touch lock" option anywhere. It's supposed to be in "Settings > Display" underneath the "Always-on screen" option, but I don't have it.
Anybody else having this issue since getting the upgrade? Can you guys see the "Touch lock" option?
Are you saying you got the Oreo Wear update on your HW2?
In my Watch, which has the N7176C build (the last Nougat build with August patch which already has vibration strength feature) , screen lock feature is in "Personalize" (don't know the exact translation since my Watch is set in french).

I think this was my original problem. I hadn't gone digging around for the vibration strength feature before this latest update so I just assumed it was associated with the Android Oreo update. I probably only just got the August patch and like Kianush suggested, I looked at my system versions and it's still Android OS 7.1.1 with Android Wear at 2.7.0.178645119.
Sorry for the dumb post! I guess I just got too excited about getting the update and didn't realize what I already had.
Swipe down will on the watch face to pull up the toggles... Second row first one will lock the display from touch and motion activation and will not turn back on until the power button is pressed...
Posting message to get trophy.

Nothing new.
December security patch
Same old
Yes, it seems to be nothing device specific in this update, only security fixes.
Cheers for quick reply, just updated mine seems like it was only security patch, we will need to wait bit longer to receive oreo 8.1
Same here. Just received it. Security patch as you guys told.
New call screen layout as in XZ1?
One change I see is that I don't have Bluetooth activation problems anymore. While before this update my Bluetooth suddenly disconnected and couldn't be enabled unless doing a restart, it seems that now this doesn't happen. My Bluetooth stays enabled and it can be easily enabled disabled.

Install Pixel 2 phone app and set is as default phone app from settings.
XZ1 and Pixel 2 phone apps are same.
You can download it from here
Name of the app: Google_phone_15.0.179075669(ARM+AMR64)_EN_fix_missed_calls.apk

Hello,
when I install system update 47.1.A.8.49-R4B for SONY XZP. is the root gone then?
In this update, you can go to app drawer from home screen with swipe up, and back in home screen from app drawer with swipe down. ?
Interesting, same version number came for the XZ1 anc XZ1c.
Is it actually the same software?

Nope. The difference between XZP and XZ1/C is display Flash, Treble and new Dialer.

January 1, 2018 security update has been released, build OPR1.170623.026.8.1.10

The second Oreo update has just been released. Kernel version: 3.18.66-perf-g5c453c8 [email protected] #1 Wed Jan 10 14:49:20 WIB 2018
Currently nothing is known about this update - no changelog, no announcement, nothing.
Let's discuss what's been fixed and not fixed in comparison to the first Oreo update.
I haven't received it yet and I don't want to clean Google Services Framework data (this often breaks your notifications).
Fixed issues:
GPS icon stuck
DND volume UI problem
Ambient notifications can now be interacted with
Fingerprint swipe gesture UI is now enabled
Bluetooth battery drainage
Phone app freeze/delay
Audio quality for video recording
Wrong rapid charging message
SIM is HD capable icon
App is running in background notification
GPS issue is still there.

For me:
location notification issue is fixed
wrong battery usage reported by Bluetooth is fixed
Fingerprint gestures option is now present.
Ambient display works fine now (imo)
Issues encountered:
Mi services in settings has green icon (OCD)
The network traffic indicators outside the icons (is this an Oreo change ?)
I did not face any of the other reported issues before.
Battery life and connectivity seem to be fine on this build.

Yes, it's really annoying but Xiaomi refuses to fix it.
What about lock screen notifications fonts? In the first Oreo build they were increased unnecessarily.

9.1.0.185 P30 Update

I received this OTA update this morning. It contains camera & fingerprint optimizations as well as the July security patches , according to the changelog. The update file was over 4gb, so there must have been more changes right?
I received the same ota update, i downloaded it anyway regardless the file size.
I didn't get any update yet in UK. On which countries are you guys? I will try to use an VPN so maybe I an get it faster
Did you actually notice any of the improvements mentioned in the changelog?
It updated against my settings and will in the middle of the night, no clue how big it was or what it did, only that I know I confirmed that the settings were off every time the phone bothered me about automatic updates and yet it greeted me with a new update in the morning.
I need to either sell this phone or root it before the week is over or I will go insane.

Today I got it in baltic states. Fingerprint seems to be a little faster but I'm not sure. And phone feels smoother. For camera changing from main to telephoto transition is faster, some new options for doing video and better autofocus in my opinion. They must have done something more than just fingerprint and camera update because 4GB is pretty big update.
Got it today in Germany. Fingerprint seams much better now!
Got it today in Bulgaria .

Thanks for letting me know. Still nothing here with Fido, but if one Canadian provider started offering it, then they probably started the deployment and it shouldn't be too long now for the rest of us to get it (assuming we both have the C792 model that I have).

Unfortunately that's not necessarily the case. The P30 Pro received multiple updates in the past 30-60 days, while my P30 only received a single one (9.1.0.164). Huawei are far more active at updating the P30 Pro than the P30, and some countries are getting even fewer updates than others. So, it could take weeks, if not months for it to finally appear on our P30s..
The P30 Pro received an update with the July security patches, while my P30 never received anything. I love this phone, but I already miss the steady flow of security updates that I used to get every month with my previous Nexus phones.

same down here in the states...
I got a problems after the update.
The phone doesn't show me notifications anymore. They arrives, sounds and vibrations, but it doesn't show me any kind of notifications.
And even the power-off popup menu doesn't appear when I press off the power button.. there mus be some problems with screen layers or who knows what
Help! I don't want to reset
Try to wipe the cache partition this fixes most problems after a update....
I do this after every update and never had any problems...
This will not reset the whole phone so you will not lose any data...
Power off your device
Press and hold the power button and volume UP button until recovery mode appears
Use volume buttons to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’ and use power key to select it
Reboot the system once the process is completed

It worked!
Security patches, camera improvements (why they don't care to elaborate which one?) and fingerprint improvements shouldn't weigh more than 500-600mb.
If they made the update 4GB, which is a full ROM they obviously changed a lot of things more... why don't specify what is beyond my knowledge. Welcome to Huawei transparent communication with their customers about their products
9.1.0.185 just arrived on my C792 Canadian model, currently installing.

Could simply be that they recompiled everything with a newer toolchain or linked against newer libraries, causing image-wide changes to the files.
I still suspect tho that there are more changes than what the changelog states. Just looking at what was in updates on the P30 Pro these past two months (fingerprint reader improvements, camera improvements, etc...), some of these might possibly be in there. We are also supposed to be receiving voltage-based screen dimming at some point (versus the current PWM method).
---------- Post added at 09:52 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:50 AM ----------
I think the new voltage-based screen dimming is indeed there. There's a Flicker Reduction setting now under Display -> Eye Comfort. So, there might be a few more hidden changes in this update.

Today comes the OTA Update Magic 4.0 on View 20 PCT L29 8GB/256GB (11.0.0.138) in Austria
Me too. Going through settings didn't work for me, had to go through support app.
Since update I haven't been able to disable automatic carrier selection. When I try to turn it off, it just stays on the Searching ... prompt forever and nothing happens. I know it usually takes a while to show all the available networks, but it literally takes forever, all you see is your battery percentage go down.
Anyone else with the same problem?

Has Huawei said anything about updating this phone to Android 11?
I have a feeling they want people to stick to their old phones while they wait for the Huawei ban to be lifted but now I am confused with Honor no longer being a Huawei brand or whatever.
To rephrase: I am really annoyed that Huawei phones and tablets have gone from the Western markets as this phone and the M5 tablet are the best Android devices I have ever had and I want to stick with them as long as possible.
What are you on about? The Android 11 update is live already.

For honor v20 recent magic ui 4.0 update is on android 10 base.
I think this is the last big update for our v20 devices, because this year phone will have 3 years so it is considered 'old' and nobody knows when/if the ban will be lifted, no company is waiting years and holding its recourses just to maybe develop a newest android update port for a 3+ year old model if they just can develop a new model with all the new things.
So yea.. I most deffenetly wont give hopes up to see next (magic 4.5 or 5.0 big android update for v20) especially when huawei is pushing its harmony OS, maybe in 2021 Q3/Q4 we will see some kind of push in this direction.. That is if the v20 will make the cut because nothing official is made.
Oh and checked update normally i had nothing, checked with support app and wola! now i have v11.0.0.137
I had the 11.0.0.137 EMUI4 update waiting to install when I got up this morning.
anyone else have an annoying volume button icon thing?
i used to press up/down, and could from there change it to vibrate only, silent etc, now the volume control only adjusts volume for media
Go to Settings > Sounds & vibration > Default volume button control.
You can choose between Media and Ringtone there.
I get what you mean about the vibrate/silent options though. Tapping the settings cog on the volume indicator takes you to the Sounds & vibration settings, where there's separate toggles for vibrate and silent.
Fastest way I use it is to have the Sound icon on the quick settings menu. Tap it once makes it vibrate only. tap again makes it silent. Tap it one more time turns sound back on again.
Got the 11.0.0.143 update today over OTA. In changelog android security update(March) and new huawei apps is mentioned and update is 1.02GB, and huawei apps can be uninstalled.
Yep, I got 11.0.0.143 today as well.
And promptly uninstalled the new Huawei apps.
