what did spammy do?
am I a super noob?
seen a place that said to go into stock messenger app and do something lame there?

Through Sounds and Notifications. If you want to get customised sounds on your system, you can place them on your SD card or copy into Windows directory, then select through Sounds and Notifications under Notifications tab, just select SMS from a pull down menu, tick Enable Sound and select the sound you want.
Thanx for your response, but it doesn't what I mean. What I mean is when you sent sms, it will appear notification SMS SENT bubble with sound. Now how to change this sound of sms sent notification. Please reply.

Finally I can change the sound of sms sent notification
Guys,
I van change this stuff, with reg edit go to
HKCU
Control panel
Notifications
Default
Wave
Then edit with the extension of "wav" or Mp3 sounds that what you want
ex. /Windows/alarm2.wav
or what ever you want..
The sent notifications would annoy me no matter what they sounded like, which is probably the reason I disabled the whole thing in Advanced Config. But thanks for the tip, might be useful to someone.
stupid answers
why cant people in this forum, in general, not just answer the question straight away, instead of giving stupid opinions which are not needed anyway? thanks for coming up with the solution the the poster of the tip how to change notification sound. been searching for this for months now.

Don't think we have the need for the replies of the kind you posted either. Ironic, isn't it?
Calm down everyone... This has been posted everywhere.
Use any registry editor, go to:
hkcu\controlpanel\notifications\default\wave
then edit the string by changing to your desired msg tone inside the windows root directory
for example change the default to any wave file you have...

[Q] Lockscreen notifications

So Im loving this phone just like everyone else but im curiouse if it is possible to have the number of missed text and stuff on my lockscreen while i have security on such as the pattern feature? Or does it have to be on swipe in order for me to see any of this?
bump
Use goSMS pro. You can customize it to act like an iPhone whenever someone texts you, it will show up in your screen without unlocking.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
Really now? is it possible to get a screen shot of an example of this? haha just because im kind of married right now to the stock messaging app but that little detail you just mentioned might make me switch
Android 4.0 allows you to access the drop-down notification bar from the lockscreen. I'm not sure if it works when there's a password, though.
I don't have access to my phone for the next week, so I can't exactly test it for you, either.
EDIT:
So I looked up the issue a bit more, and found this old thread from last year talking about the GoSMS Pro lockscreen pop-up notifications:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1231142
For some people it worked, but for others, it didn't. I suggest you give it a quick read.
Try DashClock of you are on 4.2 - looks great and does exactly what I need!
Search it up on Google Play, I cant post links yet

[Q] Text app like Facebook Messenger? (Consistent popup)

Hi there,
Since the new update of Facebook Messenger, the functionality of sending texts (SMS) has been removed. As I don't like holding on to an older version that will get outdated one time, I'm wondering if there is any text app like it.
I have searched dozens of pages on Google, including threads on xda, but none seem to have what I'm looking for. The closest I have come to is GO Sms (which I'm using now) and SMS Ninja (I even tried Paranoid Android with it's Halo functionality) Both SMS apps have the same chathead-like popup of FB Messenger which you can press to open, but once you close the message, the popup is gone.
In Facebook Messenger, the chathead-popup stays on the screen until you drag it to the bottom to delete the overlay from the screen.
Do you happen to know an app that provides me with what I'm looking for?
Thanks in advance for your time!
I'm afraid I don't have an answer but I'm curious why you want it to stay open? I never used the Facebook messenger and am wondering if I missed some functionality.

What I like about Facebook Messenger is that I can open the chathead, read the message, and don't have to reply instant because the popup would close. I can just close the bubble, go on with what I was doing and reopen the bubble whenever I want to reply
Ok, thanks. Not sure if that would suit me or not as I've never tried it. I avoid Facebook on principle although I grudgingly created an account some time ago.
Maybe you could give Portal a try. Personally I'm more interested in the multi-window function it provides.

Ninja SMS popups work almost identically to Facebook's chat heads. You just have to click the collapse arrow instead of the close button.

Oh I didn't know that! Although I find the popup layout of Ninja SMS pretty ugly, I guess I'll have to live with that for now.
I'm gonna give Portal a shot as well once I get home, although I'm not sure if it has the permanent popup functionality that I'm looking for.
Thanks to both of you for your helpful replies! More suggestions always welcome
Hey guys, letting you know what solution I'm using now:
Textra is a great, simple, text app that uses popups with quick reply. It doesn't have sticky, permanent chat heads, HOWEVER. It does have the option at the popup 'Leave it', which leaves a notification in the drawer. Whenever you press the notification, the popup opens again (you can keep doing this).
It's like a chathead that doesn't take up space! Awesome!

Don't forget you can (kind of) change the appearance of the popups! Go to settings, choose theme. I use Holo Light just because it's simple. I agree that it could use some extra customization features. It seems like the devs do a really good job of responding to user feedback though, so maybe that'll be fixed in an upcoming version (fingers crossed )

I've heard awesome things about Textra as well, I might have to give that a go.

Question Why does Google Messages look so different on the S22?

I have a P6P and Messages looks different firstly with the search bar being all the way at the top and not in the middle of the page and I cannot find some settings that are in Googles Messenger. Specifically, I am trying to change the notification sound to something other than the default sound, so I can know whether I got a text or an email without looking at the phone.
Anyone have ideas?
Samsung has a custom version of Google Messages that adheres to OneUI design guidelines, the goal being to make the elements at the top easier to reach with one hand by default. You should be able to get the other app by installing the APK manually, but I'm not sure if that will work with Google Messages now being a system app.
I know it stinks but in messages you can go into each contact to change the notification sound. I did about 30 and it didn't take too long.
open a contact and hit the 3 dots
hit details
hit notifications
hit sound
I think the worst part is the teal message bubble color and it not respecting the Samsung theme colors.

Go to settings, apps, messages, notifications, notification categories. Pick incoming or whatever and you can pick a sound for the whole app. I literally just found this myself. I'm also coming from a P6P. Sammy definitely made this way harder than it needed to be.

Thanks - it worked for me too
I was able to replace it with the normal version of Messages that I downloaded from apkmirror, but I had to uninstall the updates from the playstore first. Otherwise it detected I was trying to install the same version and wouldn't install.
It was great as I finally had iphone reactions. However, the playstore updated it back to the Samsung version. Ugh. Small differences but I hate the sammy version and once again lost iphone reactions.
