Android Auto on P40 pro with Android 10. Possible? - Huawei P40 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi
I have a P40 Pro which I did manage to get most of the Google software working on (apart from pay and gmail notifications)
I have just purchased a car that does not have Android Auto on it, but they do have an after market add on module I can buy that would add Android Auto to my vehicle. The P40 Pro is not on the list of compatible phones. Does anyone know if this will work before I go ahead and buy the unit? The supplier can't help.
There are various phones that run Android 10 eg Google and Samsung that are listed as compatible. It also says all Android 11 phones. The P40 Pro is still on Android 10. However I have had no issues in installing Android Auto from the Play Store.
What I really want to do is to be able to run other maps in the car such as Google Mapes or Waze.
The supplier can't help as technically I shouldn't even be able to run Play Store or Google maps, all of which work 100% fine on my phone.
(Just to add I used Googleify my phone when it first came out and my Gmail account still works. I get emails through OK and Calendar syncs automatically etc. Play Store works fine and I can download apps from there - the phone is running the latest security updates and some things in Googleify seem broken, but everything that was working when I first installed this a year ago seems to still be working - just in case this helps)
Many thanks

If you have install google services on the phone yes android auto will work if it's gspace android auto won't work

You need to install Android Auto from APK file.

Hello, is it working also on the head unit or just on the phone? Do you have everything functional on your phone?

Did you use a different apk file or just download it from google play store?

Thanks, but I think I'll be stuck with P40 Pro for a while since no official Google support for P40 Pro and slow updates

Thanks from your reply, but i downloaded from the Google Play and it doesn't work on my car unit!
Yes, is working on the smartphone, but doesn't launch the android auto on the car! It is always trying to connect on USB but seems that something is wrong.
Also have to tell that i have a P30 Pro and is working great on the same car.
Any thoughts??

Uninstall Maps and start Android Auto. It will prompt to install Maps. There you will see those apps also.

Unfortunately nothing seems to work! Had made a reset on my Renault Megane Unit, done all the steps above on my P40 Pro, but i still can't have Android Auto working on the car unit
The systems keeps connecting/disconnecting usb and the smartphone also starting charging mode and stopping.
It is so annoying...keep in mind that my P30 Pro still continues to work well...
Any clue?

[Help] GMS (sort) of working?

Hi everyone,
So although that I had made attempts to successfully install gms without any errors, I did not fully succeed in any of the guides. My firmware was 114 or 117 (don't remember now) and I tried several times with this firmware, as well as with 121 firmware (the only update I had).
So far, Google photos, Google maps, Google drive, YouTube, whatsapp, all work, however I am getting the notification "device is not play protect certified" when I open them (attached).
NEVERTHELESS, I do note foll:
- whatsapp backup successfully restored from Google drive, - Google photos sync and backup successfully between devices
- maps work (haven't actually navigated, but seems that everything is calculated properly).
-Contacts have synced with my Google contacts
-Gmail app works, but whenever I launch the app I get a banner saying "Google is having trouble with play services. Please try again", however I can see behind the banner that all new mails are there, but if i click the compose msg button, then I keep getting the error and cannot proceed.
-What I noticed though is that no any app currently installed on my p20 pro has been restored from play store on the p40 pro.
-i have NO notifications from Google apps
-Google search app works only for searching, I have no cards displayed on Google feed and it shows that I am not signed in, although all other Google apps have me properly signed in.
-Google Home does not work, since it does not allow me to sign in.
-Youtube works normally without any errors, actually I am also receiving notifications of newly uploaded videos :/
What the heck is going on? How come they partly work since my device is not certified and I am getting the notification page in all Google apps when they first launch?

IMO you should factory reset the phone and try another method for installing GMS until you find one that works for you. I tried a few and this way I was able to made it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=83303057&postcount=262
It seems it is not possible to have both notifications and play store working together, so you use Icebox to freeze Google Play after restoring your purchased in order to have notifications. Then use a replacement store like Aurora.
Good luck and don't give up ?
I have Google installed, with Google Play and notifications active (I don't know if that metod still works)

A friend had installed Google on Mate30 pro yesterday and today from here:

I've tried both of these methods and both work on my P40 Pro with firmware .131. I've now updated to August security patch .154 and all Google services are still working fine.

Thanks mate
I tried many methods so far, the one you used, one from a German guy, the other from the Portuguese guy (video in English) but all more or less resulted the same.
What I cannot understand is whether I do have play services working after all, or not, since as I said, my content syncs, although I am getting the non-certified error. Ok, and I do not have notifications from gapss.. [emoji23]
So I am really really confused.

Mine didn't work with that, or did it? I really don't know what to say. It's just weird, I have my content but I have this error and I don't have any notifications, yet everything syncs. Google photos sync automatically between my p20 pro and the p40 pro, etc

How to downgrade? Some tutorial just downloading firmware with checking firmware approve or not approve. Is it safe to install with differen region firmware? Or all firmware just the same and can be installed to all devices?

No, it is not save to install a firmware that does not suite to your device. In best case it just can't be installed, in worst case you'll brick your phone. This is at least what I think and what a heard from other user reports in this forum. Do you have difficulties to find the right firmware?

So what I can say from my side, Gmail app works for me. And Google Home allows me to sign in. Anyway I don´t use this app, so I cannot say more about it.
On the other side I had problems with syncing contacts and calendar.. but I found a solution.
Maybe the "functionality" refers to the firmware, maybe the GMS installation is just not "perfect".
Any other apps, that don´t work for you.? I can install them on my phone and try, if they are not country related, as "food delivery service" you´ve mentioned?

First of all, thanks vm for your assistance
You can try to search for "efood delivery" , but even netflix does not let me sign in, although their behavior is different; when i click sign in to netflix, i get the pop up abt the device not being certified, then takes me back to initial netflix screen. In the efood app, I click to launch the app, i get the error and then the app closes again. The weird thing is that efood is also in appGallery (huawei native store), so supposedly it should work.
To be honest, I love huawei devices for their build quality, cameras, battery performance and I have been debating with myself on whether I should buy the p40 pro (i really need google apps for so many reasons- home automation by using google home, etc), but I guess I am screwed; unless I make things work properly i will have to keep using my p20 pro.

I just installed efood delivery, at least it lets me to sign in via facebook.
Concerning Netflix. It doesn´t work on some devices. I had problems with OnePlus and also with my Huawei P40 Pro at the beginning. Now it works (after installing through Aurora Store I think). I don´t think it is GSM related. For me it works. But there are some solutions in the app-section on XDA.

The installation is far from perfect i tell you that
Let me ask you something, so if you have a successful gms installation, i take it that after that you have to freeze gsf in order to have push notifications of you have normal push notifications?I am somewhat confused on this. Do you have to freeze gsf to have push and then to unfreeze only when you want to use playstore?

No, I didn´t freeze anything. But as I remember it didn´t work from the beginning. I tried so many things and actually I don´t know why everything is working now. I should have written down all my steps . I think I also updated Google services. For syncing contacts I had to downgrade GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.
And I still didn´t recognize, if I get all the notifications that are possible. But I get them for my mails and all other messages (using signal for sms), whatsapp and I don´t miss anything.
If I understood correctly you imported your apps from your P20? Another idea, that there is a conflict with this method? I didn´t have this opportunity as I came from a non huawei device. I had to install all my apps from scratch using Aurora as well as Playstore especially for my paid apps.

Since I had nothing to lose (phone not being properly setup with gms) I restored my p20 pro backup via hisuite. All my data, even home screen, were restored, minus 76 apps which failed for no apparent reason, I just saw a msg that 76 apps did not complete restoration (I have more than 250 apps installed normally)
Now I am pairing my Samsung watch active 2 to see if this works, but as I see it, I will have to try again from scratch.

Of course I cannot know but HiSuite could be the problem, especially if you restore data from a different device. Did you just restore app data or also system data? I´m not firm with HiSuite, but also with former devices I sometimes had conflicts by using backup apps - one reason I miss root.... but I knew it before and still happy with Huawei and the given solutions here on XDA.
So yes, maybe give it a second try, but please don´t make me responsible if you brick your phone ... Good luck!

Or you try to reset all your settings first through the phone´s menu. Maybe you have also restored settings from your older device which cause a conflict now.

I also noted that in my setting menu when I select Google account it just keeps loading, is it the same in yours?
P.s: yesterday I inserted my sim cards and got a notification for 154 update, finally.. [emoji23] (although I won't be doing the update until I get this working)
FOR the time being, with my device as is, I would say that I could use it if I had Google home working (my local food app suddenly started to work), even though I am getting the error page when I open apps, since it seems that at the same time apps are working. Any solution on that?

Run google pay on Wear OS watch with Huawei Mate XS

I've finally found a way to have google pay running while having my Mate XS. I decided to buy a Wear OS smartwatch which comes with google pay hoping that thing would be easy enough to setup but because the GAPPS have been sideloaded, the phone refuses to connect my google accounts to the watch. If you follow my steps below, you'll be able to use your smartwatch smoothly with your Mate XS or any Huawei smartphones for that matter.

PREREQUESITE:
1. Another smartphone which runs google apps from factory and supports google pay (tap&pay)
2. A computer that can run ADB (ADB on computer required to send commands to the watch)
3. Huawei phone (Mate XS in my case)
4. GAPPS installed and running on Huawei phone
Step 1:
Download Google Pay and Wear OS on both the Huawei phone and the other phone but don't open them.
Step 2:
Connect your google account(s) to the other phone, setup and pair your smartwatch to that phone and don't forget to copy your google accounts to the watch.
Step 3:
Setup your bank card(s) on Google Pay if not done already.
Step 4:
When the watch is connected to the other phone, turn off bluetooth of that phone.
Step 5:
Connect your watch to the computer and run ADB (Depending your watch brand, it can be done wired or wireless guide here)
Step 6:
Follow the guide from step 5 and when your watch is connected with the Huawei Mate XS, open google pay (ON THE WATCH)
Step 7:
The watch will prompt you to finish the bank card(s) setup on your phone, just follow the prompts and repeat the step on your watch should you want to add more cards.
Done!! Now you have your Google account(s) setup on the watch as well as google pay
I needed to do that if the GMS is installed on mate xs it's easier
I followed the steps but as the Google Pay on the watch starts to connect to the Google Pay on the Mate XS to add a card, the Google Pay on the Mate XS just shuts down, leaving the watch trying to add the card for good.

It is not too old at all. It works the Google Pay normally with other very old phones. The watch does not close. What disappears is the Google Pay app on the Huawei Mate XS. It flashes out as the watch tries to add a credit card but it is still there as an opened app in the recent apps view. I can open it separately as an app but that doesn't do anything. I tried reinstalling Google Pay on the phone but getting the same result.
I got a new Fossil Gen 5 instead of the Huawei Watch 2. I followed the steps and ended up with the same result. Google Pay on the watch initiates the process of adding cards but on the phone Google Pay just opens then flashes out to the background for ever. Any ideas?

I have a Mate XS with gms installed and running well for a year now except Google Pay doesn't work. I followed the steps on post #1 above on my new Fossil Gen 5. The Watch is now connected to the Mate XS and Google Pay on the phone opens up then hangs to the background as I try to add a card on the watch.

Question Issues with Google Pay

Hi! When I'm trying to make a payment with Google Pay (get my watch close to payment terminal), I'm having the error below.
I'm on latest software on my Galaxy Watch 4 LTE (OneUI 4.0/EVA8).
My watch is not rooted or anything like that.
The only thing that I did is sideloading couple of apps (google home, facebook messenger, google assistant) + enabling the modded ECG/Blood Pressure.
Does anyone else have the issue? Is there a way to fix it?

Thats what Im getting after a factory reset. Google says everything is good on their end, Samsung is telling me it's a software issue, and I can send it in for repair. They seemed to be stumped when I asked if it was software (which can be updated via OTA) whats accomplished by sending it in for repair (hardware issue?)
Already sent the error log to Google and Samsung. They said they'll look into it!

Not working:
ZUI PC modeThis feature was redefined in ZUI 14. It only applies to external display.
You are highly recommended to feedback the absent of this features to Lenovo and hoping Lenovo will listen to enable back this feature on the next release.
Workaround
Google Device Config Backup to GDriveEven you had enabled the Google Play services, and it works on almost everything, except this. It just don't backup the device config to GDrive.
Knowledge Bases:
Activate Google Play Support
How to Root the device - Specially thanks to BlackVictor
Special Features:
Wireless cast to Tablet as extended display from PC
I think y can change your rom to global rom.

Let me started with my own sharing:
I just got my set of XiaoXin Pad Pro 2022 with China ROM but been enabled with Google Play. However, it wasn't full as some of the feature was broken, such as:
- Device Config Backup to GDrive
Due to my Google Play support was enabled by the seller before sending out, I could not confirm the actual way to acquire this features. When asked the seller, he said that just download the Google Play APK from the internet and install. Some video said the Application Center did offered the Google Play installation too. Which indeed true that I could find that there. This is the easiest way to get the Google Play installed into your tablet. However, there was reporting that it won't sign-in to your google account.
Since it runs on China ROM, the Productivity Mode is missing but replaced by Study Assistant Mode. This is something missing from the best part of this table, when attached with a keyboard. However if you are to project/cast the display to external display, the one on the external display will be in productivity mode. How strange, right?

Zhen have you figured out a method to enable Productivity / PC Mode? Study Assistant is near-useless for me and I'm really missing the Productivity Mode....
Good Day
Firstly, I'm sorry my English not good
Honestly, I'm shocking from this table not support sign in for google Apps
Why they don't told us about this issue before we get it !!!!
Anyway, now how we can change it from Chinese ROM to international ROM ?

Unfortunately, according to the ZUI 14 update, it had abandone the PC Mode within the internal display. It will only appear on the external display that you connect through the Type C. But, during then, your internal screen will still not in PC mode. I was requested feedback to Lenovo on this and request to have that feature back. You should do the same...

By looking at the download filename, it is for TB128FU. Our table is TB138FC. It is best not to mix and match the firmware with the device that you own.
This is a SD870 SOC device, I believe the resources for this SOC on a Custom ROM support is plenty. I do hope there will be developer interested on this table and build something interesting for us. Let's hope for the best.
Furthermore, this table is relatively new in the market. For a custom ROM, we might really need to be patient for one. But who knows there is already one in the development state? Just be hopeful.

Check out the video demo there and you can download the installer here to try for yourself.
However, the wireless cast from phone is only supported by Lenovo phone with ZUI at the moment. No APK that we could download to enable this feature from other brand phone, yet.
Or anyone could extract the Lenovo One APK from our tablet to test if it works? Interesting question.

Our screen is 11.2 inch.. just check with seller for that size should work.
As of case, I'm not sure about the 3rd party product. The Lenovo cases that I'm using is pretty good where it had the pen placement to protect our pen. Pretty convenient. I had the one with keyboard too. Both are as convenient as it should be.

Issue in Harmony OS 3.0 update for Huawei devices with GMS installed.

I have a Chinese Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G which I updated last Friday the 16th to the Harmony OS 3.0
The phone until Harmony 2.0 was perfect working for me, but nevertheless with this new update that occupies about 6 GB in size I have a problem with Google Services: In certain weather apps, traffic cars, etc. that use Google maps to show locations or positioning... the map does not load, and it shows me a message that "Google Services are being updated", and nothing else.
Screenshot attached.

Some more people is suffering the same problems:

im having the same problem.
And Flightradar is not working anymore, the MAP not loading,
Google Chrome Browser dont support Video Playback anymore (Firefox yes)
before with HMOS 2.0 and GMS no problem now witch 3.0 only problems.

I don't use Whatsapp but I use Zalo (A similar app in my country) On my Mate 50 too, but when I send the location the recipient still gets my location and displays normally. It is also difficult to work perfectly when we are using pirated GMS, I think if you want to work perfectly, you can use it in parallel with a virtual environment like Gbox, Gspace

At the previous version of Harmony OS 2.0, Google Maps worked perfectly in all apps.
Huawei has introduced something that makes Google Services not show the maps in this v3.0
The fundamental question is, what have they introduced it ??
@ancola66 -> Do Google Maps work well for you in apps that require it with Harmony OS 3.0 ??
I have Google Play Services installed on my Mate 30 Pro almost natively thanks to Googlefier way and these GMS were working nice ... until Harmony OS 3.0 arrived to my device.
PS: I am not going to stop using WhatsApp for this, it is the largest messaging app in the world and where I have all my contacts, including family members.

So, by the moment i have removed al the GMS. Whatsapp works fine, other apps are not working by the moment.
I want to do a factory reset, with harmony Os3, and repeat the whole process.

Because GSF file never updates itself on a Huawei device like ours.
So it's very important to know which tutorial you follow it and where you took from the Google files to install them on your Huawei.
Do you understand me?
For example, my GSF file is version 10 and I took it from an Eloy Gomez tutorial from YouTube. This tuthorial is the same as Googlefier method.

But you have installed GMS following a method or a tutorial.
From who ??
Because you have installed some files and the GSF file is there sure.
Thanks in advance.
