Hey all,
I've been on the Global then EU Roms more or less since day 1. I've been having a lot of call quality issues and it's looking like I'm going to have to revert back to the T-Mo ROMS at least temporarily.
I unlocked my bootloader after switching to the global rom. I really don't want to go thru the whole T-Mo unlock token thing after reverting. Could I get temporary root by booting from a patched Magisk image on my PC, then back up the modems with Partition Manager? Or could I extract the modems from the T-Mo images/OTAs and flash them?
I don't like the bloat in the T-Mo load and want to go back to EU afterward, but the phone's call quality, BT, and data speeds (cell and Wifi) are atrocious as it currently stands.
Any guidance or thoughts on the best way to proceed?
Thanks,
Super
Do you not still have the unlock.bin from the first time you unlocked? Just MSM, fully patch, then dump boot with edl and patch it
No. I didn't need it. I switched to global first then I was able to unlock as normal without it.

I have the latest firmware from SamMobile and Odin 3.12. I also see the video tutorials on youtube on how to use those 2 items to get the flash done. Question, I will be switching carriers at the same time of my flash. I do not need to unlock the phone from ATT before the flash, do I? I thought that that phone unlocks were only needed when keeping the same load on your phone, while switching carriers?
You can't really mess this up, can you? In other words, of something doesn't work before the flash starts loading, you can keep troubleshooting it. Once the flash starts, that basically means you go it, correct?
Are there any other items I'll need or things to do before I flash the Tmobile FW onto my ATT GS7?
If the phone is carrier locked you won't be able to use it with another SIM until unlocking it, regardless of firmware. I assume you've already tried it with the T-Mobile SIM?
Howdy all,
I'll try to keep things brief but informative.
Yesterday I got the unlock bin for my T-Mobile Oneplus 7 Pro. I unlocked it, flashed LineageOS (latest 17.1), Magisk (19.04 but then updated to latest after install), DM-Verity, and TWRP (unified Q version).
I have installed Nethunter, F-Droid, and some other basic apps.
I just got a new SIM Card from T-Mobile and activated it last night, however it shows the same as the empty SIM slot (which my phone doesn't have a physical second slot) and on the lock screen at the top left rotates between saying: "No SIM card" "No SIM card - T-Mobile" "No SIM card - No service". In the phone the top right does not show any bars, x'ed out or otherwise, however one time after taking it out, googling, then putting it back in it sis appear x'ed out until reboot.
I cannot send texts as it says no preferred SIM card selected, and I cannot make calls due to a lack of service; however, I can receive texts and calls and even answer calls and speak to the calling party just fine.
I was getting nothing, then I saw where someone received a text and it fixed it for them, so I texted myself, got a backlog of texts, but nothing else came of that.
I have no idea what to do from here and only vauge idea of why it may be like this but no understanding of it.
I found this reddit post seeming to detail the issue, but I do not know if it applies to me (presumably does) and I do not understand any of the information in the post, nor do I know what to do with this information:
reddit.com/r /oneplus /comments /gb5jlk /factory_reset_no_sim_card_detected_oneplus_7_pro /
(sorry for the spaces, can't post outside links until after I've posted 10 posts)
and with that I'm all out of idea and knowledge. My background is in Offensive Security, but I know very little about SIM Cards and smart phones so all help is greatly appreciated!

I didn't do it so I'm going to assume it is not. I've only unlocked the bootloader (obviously). How would I go about unlocking the SIM?
Also, the original carrier was T-Mobile and the SIM is also T-Mobile, I assumed this would be ok but is there an issue since I didn't unlock it yet I installed custom stuffs - or what would be causing an issue by not unlocking it? (just trying to learn more )

How did you root?
Did you grab a patched boot image or did you boot with the TWRP image and install Magisk yourself?
Grabbing the wrong image is the number one thing that causes WiFi and SIM issues.

I used this method (copied from irsa mintTM in a YouTube comment)
"REBOOT TWRP
FORMAT DATA (If you are encryted) your internal memory will be lost!!!
REBOOT TWRP
WIPE DATA & CACHE
Flash Rom
Flash TWRP Installer
REBOOT TWRP
WIPE DATA & CACHE
Flash Rom again
Flash TWRP again
REBOOT TWRP
Flash Magisk 19.4!!!! <----This version
Flash DM Verity zip file <--- Always last file before system reboot
REBOOT SYSTEM AND ENJOY"
Gotta unlock for custom ROMs. Flash back to TMobile firmware do a sim unlock, then you can flash back.

I got the T-Mobile stock everything back and everything locked back down, but my SIM card is showing now service now - the same no sim message as was on LineageOS, not even receiving texts now.
I'll re-seat and mess with it when I get some more time.

Also, I went to the unlock app and it says it's fully unlocked already and can be used with any carrier...
If you didn't use the msm tool to get you back to the T-Mobile firmware, then you probably aren't on T-Mobile firmware. I had the same issue trying to get lineage to work, and was able to get back to stock and have data.
Since you probably don't have the bootloader unlock code, you need to convert to international firmware, and fully update to at least 10.3.2 before you flash lineage. If you don't, you won't have service.

I did use the MSM tool, it's locked, has the T-Mobile boot animation and everything.
I do have the unlock file & code, I had to wait a week to get it.
Hi all, I am on Mint, and have issues getting calls in on the phone - T-Mobile sim unlocked OP8 - IN2017. The sim works perfect on my OP6T where I had flashed the Global Rom. So, if any could give some input on the following:
*Do you think flashing the Global/or a custom ROM could help with incoming call issue?
*Will flashing away from the Stock ROM lose any T-Mobile bands in the USA?
*What would I lose in flashing to the Global ROM (on 6T lost ability for Google Pay - assume still the same issue?)
*Would it be better to Flash to Global ROM, or to one of the Custom ROMs (like Lineage)?
*I assume if i mess anything I can go back to stock?
I am waiting for bootloader unlock code from OP. Thank you for any input.
Not sure about the bands but I get decent speeds on the global. As far as I know everything still works. I use google pay every day. The only thing you need to do to get it working again is relock the bootloader. The rom or stock thing is pretty much personal taste. I like oxygen os so I've stuck with stock.

Thank you for the reply. So you went from T-Mobile stock OOS on the IN2017, to Global OOS? Everything seems to work well, that is good. So no need to root for GPay, just re-lock bootloader, that is good to know. Are you on Android 11? Did you lose 5G?
Do you have a guide that you used, and liked, for the conversion to Global? Did you backup your persist.img prior?

Changed the download link to GDrive.
Thank you
is there a steps on how to do this? first time looking at this msm tool.
will this work for software version 11.2.5.5LE53CB
Your current version does not matter. This will flash phone to point that it was when it came out of the box. then you can start over.
Do i lose unlock after convercion
How do you back up the T-Mo modems without going thru the T-Mo bootloader token unlock? I want to try going back to the T-Mo modems to see if they resolve the issues, and then back them up when to reflash when I go back to the EU load.
Thanks!

I'm not talking about flashing. Just backing up.
I was hoping to get temporary root with a Maoism boot image, back up the modems, and then convert back to European

Yeah, that's it. I guess I'll have to try it and see. If I still end up with problems, I'm going to have to figure out how to debloat it.

No dice. Won't boot to another image unless it's unlocked.
Waiting for the T-Mo token.
avid_droid said:
Yep. Any critical partition flashing has to be unlocked. There is no other way around it. I've bricked my 9,the one before this one,by flashing the wrong modem on it. Tried MSM and it locked it and I couldn't do anything else to it,meaning flashing anything through bootloader or fastbootd.

Well, I guess it ended up not mattering much in the end. At least for what I was trying to do.
I'm finding T-Mo's service to just be complete crap, and I've determined it's not the phone. I moved 8 lines over from AT&T. Half were BYOD (all unlocked AT&T Samsung devices, and my son's unlocked OP9), and the other half were Samsung and OP phones bought from T-Mo. Everyone's experiencing bad call quality and coverage issues. Both my family and in-laws live within a mile from known T-Mo towers where we live. I live in a major metro area, my in-laws in a rural area. My parents live in a medium sized city. It's gotten unbearable, and at times, my wife and I have had to resort to texting due to the call quality just being so bad. Cutting out, garbled, etc.
In-laws also have T-Mo's home internet and are having issues with that.
I don't get it despite everything good I've read about T-Mo. None of us had these issues with AT&T.
I'm going to try to work it out with T-Mo, but at least for the time being, I'll just go back to the European ROM. There's no difference in the call quality anyway, and at least there I have root again.
If i flash the T-mo firmware to a global model, will I be unable to unlock the bootloader simply with the adb command, or will I have to go through all the hoops as if I bought the phone directly from t-mobile?

Yes, but the phone has to be SIM unlocked first.

I'm gonna use the T-Mobile sim card on a global version of the phone. So theoretically the phone would already have been sim unlocked out of the box. What I'm asking is, if i choose to use the T-Mobile msm on the unlocked global model, will it carrier lock me in? If not that means all i have to do is go to developer options and use the unlock command, right?

No that won't happen to you. You should still be SIM unlocked as flashing software doesn't deal with SIM Locking but it May Lock the Bootloader that I am not Sure of

Who's currently doing sim unlocking? I'll gladly donate. I've unlocked my bootloader, flashed Magisk and have root access but I'm still sim locked to TMobile.
Hi guys! Having some weird issues getting custom roms to flash on my 8T. I purchased the TMobile variant as it was the only one in stock, and I planned to use it with a TMobile mnvo. It's the KB2007 model. I purchased it outright, and went to unlock the bootloader - this was not possible as the device was locked. I reached out to TMobile on Twitter, gave them my phone number, IMEI and told them my story. They said it would take 2-5 business days for the unlock team to look at the request as I wasnt a direct TMobile customer. A few days later, I went into the android settings app, and attempted to permanently unlock the device and it unlocked. I rebooted and was able to toggle the developer setting to allow OEM unlocking, yay! Since that point, I've ran the kebabt -> kebab EU firmware MSM tool to convert the device to the EU firmware (as I've heard it's more stable, I'm US based though)
However, after that I've gone to replace oxygen os with Lineage, and I'm getting errors from fastboot about the device still being locked. Any ideas where to go from here?
You probably need to unlock your bootloader?

You will get fastboot errors about unlocking critical partitions if you try to flash partitions other than boot, recovery and a few others while you're in bootloader mode.
For the rest you must be in fastbootd mode.
Chances are you need the unlock token from OnePlus themselves it takes a week
