Dex - Controlling audio apps with phone screen off - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

Really loving Dex and Microsoft's Your Phone app.
Particularly for controlling DI.FM apps while listening to HD LDAC encoded HD radio streaming.
However it's annoying how I have to keep the screen on to do this. Is there any way to control audio apps with the screen off i.e. DI.FM etc?

The app would need the permissions to do so.
Poweramp does this quit well.
I've also seen a glitch in the Samsung browser do this while watching vids. If a vid is running and you hit the power button to turn off the screen after about 10 seconds the vid will resume, audio only. Just what you want but have doubts you could recreate it because of the OS and browser version difference. I assume Samsung corrected this.

Stock Video Player & Media Scanner Questions

Guys,
Couple of Questions.
1. The stock video player is fine, except it doesn't remember the location in the video. Everytime you start the player, it starts from the begining. Any way to make it remember the location, or other alternatives?
2. How to stop the Media Scanner from running when you disconnect from PC or restart the phone. It takes a good 5-6mins, and stops you from using the Gallery during that time?
Thanks for your input.
1) can't really help you there with the defaults, try DoubleTwist ?
2) Media scanner will run as long as TouchWiz is running, AFAIK
The newer ROMs seem to have fixed the Media Scanner issue - but since they have other issues, I am going to wait for an official release - I rarely reboot my phone or mount my SD card.
There are other Video players in the market - try some of them. If I pause a video and exit the video player, but come back later - the video i was watching starts at the spot i paused it. I guess this probably doesn't stay across a power cycle. I am not sure if any video player will.
I've been using Meridian for both video and music and have been pretty happy. For video it will remember where you stopped (per video, and across power cycles). It even has an option to always rewind 3 seconds when coming back from another app.

Thanks for the replies. Will try Meridian.
As for the Media Scanner, it's not just after power cycle that it comes up, but also after I disconnect from PC.
I remember seeing a video that showed how to disable TW on Epic and Fascinate, but that didn't work for Captivate. Anyone else know how to disable TW, and what other things does that change? (contacts, messaging???)

Anyone else have horrible music playing experience?

If I use the stock player, which seems nice, as soon as I enable an EQ, I get this terrible effect that sounds like it's being over compressed. It happens with all the eq settings, and even custom.
I stated using Mixzing and it's a great player, the eq is awsome, but when I play songs it skips all the time.
That's odd. Mine doesn't seem to suffer from any compression with EQ use.
I don't actually use EQ but i have some poor experience playing music at times.
Sometimes when I'm listening to music through the headphone port and the phone does something (receive a text message or just use data or something) there are audible pops and clicks in the audio. Once the phone is done doing what it's doing they stop
I experience the same small pops and hesitations when playing music. Mine occur both from the speaker and the headset jacks. Sometimes I can play an entire song and have no noise, but most of the time it occurs a couple of times during a song. Very annoying.
Mine doesn't do that either. Good for me I guess, but odd.
I also have noticed the same issues. Especially when there is an incoming call. Granted, IM not stock, running cog 2.1.5

Yeah, I get the crackling noises too, but haven't noticed whether it's only with mixzing or stock player.
same issue here with the stock player AND mixzing. others have said that apps running in the background cause this issue but I tested that by killing everything in the background first and the issue still occurs. I know that android will auto-start stuff it needs but if the stock apps kill the music quality, then they have more fixes to release.
Weird, when I get a notification my music stops completely just to play my tone... is this normal? Any way to disable this? Hell I didn't even know stock player had EQ adjustments, where do I find them?

Bluetooth playback is when I notice the most distortion. I don't bother with any kind of EQ.
I get clicks and pops from all headphones, anything I connect the phone to, car, stereo, anything connected to the headphone jack.
I've tried and listened to music using all of these and get clicks and pops from all of them.
Stock player
MixZing
Cubed player
Tunewiki
Meridian
The player from Cyanogen mod
Pandora
Last.fm
Astro player
Every music player app I've tried clicks and pops, pauses and stutters. It does this no matter the encoding of the file, no matter the source, it clicks and pops and clicks and pops. It's worse than the cheapest mp3 player I've ever owned and frankly, I wish I could return this phone to AT&T but I'm past my 30 days. I really expected some updates, real updates for the GPS which is why I kept it past the 30 days. I thought the clicks and pops were a fluke, but to this day, GPS sucks and the music player clicks and pops. It's beyond annoying and if I could return it, I would.
Earlier today the GPS had me in Bakersfield, CA, over 2,000 miles from where I actually was. 2,000 miles!
And no, the explanation "it's a phone, not a gps or a media player" is not acceptable. These are features we pay for as customers. And a fix for these issues means I don't have to screw around with custom ROMs and settings and hacks and blah blah. It should just work, period.
Click click.. click click...
Yes, I get clicks and pops and stutters, yes I do...
...and yes, I've tried all the various buffer options in the MixZing app and am using the full PAID version, PAID version of the app. That would be the media player I bought because the stock one that comes with the phone can't read playlists created elsewhere. If you have even a moderate music collection it's absurd that the damn stock player can't read a standard playlist file and users would be expected to create all their playlists on their device. Ridiculous.
May I suggest you try two things and see if it helps:
1. Try a lag fix if you haven't already
2. Download SetCPU, lock the cpu at 1GHz and try music
I'd be very interested to see if either of these would help, have you tried factory resetting or a new ROM?

[Q] video playback with screen off?

Hey guys!
I'm quite new to the android world. I'm very happy with my One S, but I haven't found a way, to stream videos from my NAS with the screen off.
(In order to improve my language skills I listen to english tv-series before sleeping. Before I got my new phone, I used my Ipod Touch with the "Video Lock" app from Cydia)
The only way i have found to do it is to use diceplayer. In the settings of diceplayer you can select Background Playback. That allows you to power off the screen and continue video playback.
My setup I have found works best. I use ES File Explorer to navigate to my NAS. When I select a video file, it asks what player to use. I select diceplayer and once the video starts, I turn off the screen.
I have found that sometimes my wifi will go into low power mode with the screen off and playback audio gets choppy, so I have to use a widget called WIFI High Performance Widget.
thx, it works. I was using mediahouse+mxplayer, mediahouse+diceplayer works for me now!

Bluetooth headphones resume playback not working

Hello,
I use a pair of true wireless Soul X-shock earphones to listen to seminars when out jogging etc using background playback. (Samsung Galaxy S7 and MX Player Pro)
The play/pause function (on the earphones) works as it should if there is less than an approx 5 minute delay between button presses...
However, when the video is pause is longer than 5 minutes I find the resume function on my earphones no longer operate and background playback of the video is completely halted.
Not only that, when resuming playback on my phone screen and then pressing the home button or lock screen the video does not play in the background as it should.
I have found the only way to remedy this is to force quit MX Player Pro directly and start it up again. That way the background playback function behaves like normal again.
The problem also happens immediately if I put my ear phones back into the charging case and take them out to use them again.
I am able to use spotify without issue taking my ear phones on and off but MX Player Pro behaves very differently.
I have also noticed the background playback for MX Player Pro on the notifications bar gets killed after about 5 minutes of no playback, requiring a full restart of the app before it can come back again.
I have already added MX Player Pro to the power saving exceptions list but the issue still happens.
Is there anyway to fix this via settings or via new update?

Click to collapse
Thanks for your feedback. When you pause the playback manually, MX Player will no longer use the foreground service. So, the system may kill the app to reclaim the resources if it is required for some other process. Once it's killed by the system, it may not be able to receive the media button controls. So, you can't resume the playback from the headset. However, everything should work as expected when you open the app again. If you found any abnormal behaviour, kindly provide us with more info so that we can investigate it further for you.

Low frequency (bass) sound issue on Alcatel Pop 4+ / Optus X Smart

Hi forums,
I have a Optus X Smart (rebadged Alcatel Pop 4 Plus). It runs Android 6.0.1.
When I plug into the headphone jack to play music on speakers and I play music from some apps, like the Youtube app and the supplied Onetouch Music app, the volume of bass is severely diminished. At normal volume anything below about 70-80Hz is basically inaudible. (was testing with this: <"Test your speakers" Youtube video by "Doctor Mix"> (had to remove URL since i'm not allowed to post them yet))
*However*, if I open Chrome browser and go to Youtube in the browser (as opposed to using the app), low frequency audio seems fine.
I tried toggling the "Arkamys audio effect activated" option in Sound & notification settings, and although it does have an effect on how audio sounds, it does not solve the issue.
I've seen the solution here for Android Auto (which is not what i'm using/doing anyway):
<had to remove URL to other website because I can't post links yet>
My phone doesn't present this "Headset SWS" option to me when a headset is plugged in.
Any ideas?
Was just trying a few different music players from the Play Store, the one called "AIMP" plays songs properly, without the bass issue, so that's nice at least... would still really like it if the Youtube app didn't have this problem (I pay for Youtube premium so I can listen to podcasts/commentary/etc. while i'm driving and the app is in the background with the screen off).
