Google photos not backing up - any ideas? - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

I have 2 original generation Pixel phones. One I paid full price for and is quite old now but everything still works.. apart from google photos backups.
Another "new" one I bought cheap off ebay as a spare, which turned out to be a refurbished / spare parts bin model judging by the photos its builder left on the device!
My original Pixel has become terrible at backing up to Google Photos. I can't figure out why. I've tested the Wifi - that appears ok. It does back up eventually but it takes literally weeks as is getting worse. I've tried clearing the cache for photos and altering the sleep settings for the phone in case it is going to sleep. Judging by its fantastic battery life after each backup attempt overnight, I do suspect it is going to sleep, almost as if it is ignoring the settings.
My other newer Pixel is fantastic at backing up to Google Photos. On the same network. But it eats through the battery when doing this, so clearly is not going to sleep.
Any ideas? Both phones have the same sleep settings from what I can see, unless I'm missing a hidden setting somewhere. And it might be something else other than sleep.
I was wondering if there is some sort of secret lifetime backup cap on a particular phone, which might explain why the newer phone is backing up still?

Got my G2X replacement...

Got it in the mail today - T-Mo CS has been great so far - overnighted me a new one.
I just finished setting it up which took only 1 hour (thank you fast WiFi and Google restore).
Some things I've noticed so far.
- This one has a HUGE backlight bleed in the bottom right corner. It's really gross. The other corners and edges are fine although there is some I don't care. My original G2X seems had no blacklight bleed at all compared to this. Huge bummer with this..since if I want to keep the replacement I have to sacrifice screen quality.
- The power button is stiffer and nicer to click than my original G2X which was a bit squishy...silly but noticed it right away
- I used the Google restore so it reinstalled the same 72 apps I had installed on my original G2X at boot up. During this time the replacement G2X didn't heat up at all while I remembered my original G2X heated up considerably during the install. Not sure why this is.
- The screen feels more responsive than the original G2X. Feel this using keyboard, sliding lock screen and general use.
- Battery life (probably an anomaly) seems better on this phone doing similar tasks. Will need to test for longer period to be sure.
I'm going to now use the replacement as my phone for the next 72 hours (need to use on workdays too) and I'll report back on whether I still have any reboots or freezes that I had on my original G2X.
I'm half hoping I do and don't. If I don't, there's a chance it's a hardware issue and I have to decide to keep the new one with a worse screen. If I do, then it's software and will be fixed on my old one so I can go back to it.

Could you explain that process in detail? When I switched from my Nexus One to the G2x, Market listed my paid apps as "purchased," but it didn't install any apps at all, neither free nor purchased. I'd like to try the factory-reset approach people have mentioned as improving their battery performance, but I really don't want to have to search for and manually install the 70-80 apps I have on my phone currently.

Sure! Make sure in Settings-> Location & Privacy -> Backup my data/restore my data are both checked and it's tied to your primary GMaila ccount. I don't know how frequently it backs up and there's manual way to do a backup.
However, what will happen is when you factory reset and login with this GMail account it will not only restore contacts, calendar, email,etc. but all the apps you had installed (purchased and free) at the last backup. It will do this all in the background so you can use your phone for other stuff. The only indication is the SYNC icon in the notification bar. Once done it will show a notification that says "XX applications successfully restored" and you're done.
You can then go into Market and put on other ones that may have been missed, etc.
It will also restore your WiFi AP passwords and settings including other settings, It's pretty cool

this is the exact reason i'm undecided about sending mine back. mine is slight in the top right corner. i can only see it if i hide the status bar with adw. i'm just worried that i'm going to get one that's worse. or get someones refurbished bleeding to death device. have no idea what i'm going to do. just over a week to get my cash back. or live with it. or play the mail game with tmo, sending devices back and forth till i get one to my liking. i just unrooted and restored stock recovery incase i send it back. knowing me, cyan will release tonight and i'll install it and keep it. lol. my head is spinning from trying to decide. 500 bucks for an inferior screen? my g1 had no bleeding. after just saying that, i think i'm gonna play the mail game with tmo. it's friggin 2011. i demand better for my hard earned money. plus, if we all just accept it, it gives the manufacturers no reason to improve upon things. if enough people say no, they'll get the hint.
What you describe is what I expected to happen, but it didn't. It occurs to me that this probably didn't happen for me in the switch from the Nexus One to the G2x because the N1 was running Gingerbread and the G2x is still on Froyo.
Anyhow, I'm glad to know that it does work at least in some circumstances, and I've had those settings since I first configured the device, so maybe I'll be brave and try the factory reset. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I'm torn too. If this phone doesn't reboot or have any issues at all then I'll probably keep it even though the blacklight bleeds in one corner. This appears to be the current quality of most panels as nearly every ipad2 it seems has horrible blacklight bleed (including my wife's). I can live with a lower quality screen in exchange for a better overall and more stable device.
I bought my first g2x in store on the 20th and had over 20 freezes/reboots in the first 24 hours. Replaced it and now running over 24 hours with no reboots and three full charge cycles without a single hitch. I highly suggest getting a replacement if you have the reboot issue.

Well that's the end of that. My replacement rebooted in the middle of the night while charging which my current phone has never done. So I'm back to my original G2X and I'm keeping it. Its obvious this is some type of software issue and not hardware. My original is perfect hardware wise with no bleeding at all.
I guess now I just wait until either LG patches the phone or CM7

Assuming you started from %100?
I found after some app updates that my play services cache was rather high and I had some unnusual battery drain. So I went to manage apps and cleared the cache on play services. Seemed to correct itself after that.
If you just got it then cycle it a couple times, it gets better after a week or so.
If you've had it awhile then a rogue app is causing it. BetterBatteryStats or gsam from play store will do better at helping figure it out.

KitKat and Jelly Bean have both had battery drains related to location services. I'm keeping location turned off until the next release. I'm not happy about it, but it does seem to make a difference.

I don't have an issue with location services unless I have google now enabled then it is a battery hog.
I had a massive battery drain because of WiFi even when off. Go to WiFi settings advanced turn off scanning always on.
you need to use better battery stats. just research xda for it. and follow the posts directions. you will find out what exactly is eating your battery.

Battery drain has been a relatively common experience after the KitKat 4.4 update. I have a Droid Mini, not a Maxx, but I've been seeing a lot of reports for all three of last years Droid line (Mini, Ultra and Maxx). Troubleshooting battery life is typically done through looking at events called wakelocks. Wakelocks are created by apps on your phone to prevent it from going into "deep sleep"--basically, they allow the CPU to stay on when the screen on your phone seems off. BetterBatteryStats or WakelockDetector are two apps that can be used to gain a little more insight into what wakelocks you are experiencing and what might be causing them.
However, wakelocks are broken down into two categories--those run by the Android kernel itself (kernal wakelocks) and those created by apps running in the background (partial wakelocks). Unfortunately, the 4.4 update made it impossible to view the partial wakelocks directly without root permissions. If you did as I did and naively updated to 4.4 without root, you won't be able to root your phone (as of now) to see the partial wakelocks. Instead, the wakelocks will show up under the kernal wakelocks that can be viewed--but instead of an app by app breakdown, they are visible only in the aggregate, so figuring out which app in particular is causing your problem can be a real trick.
One way to do so is to look at the apps running in the background of under the "Apps">"Running" in settings and see which apps you have actually been using and are supposed to appear and which apps are not. Then select the apps that you didn't start and force close them in sequence, checking Wakelock Detector or BetterBatteryStats after each to see if they have fixed your issue at all. The best way IMHO to see if they had an immediate effect is to look for increases in the "Deep Sleep" stat--if the app had been keeping your phone awake, and you force closed it, the Deep Sleep time should go up after you shut off your phone.
All that being said, troubleshooting is a real *****. There is an abundance of non-app-related issues with 4.4, or so it would appear. I have seen posts attributing fixes to turning location services to "GPS only". Others recommend clearing the Google Play Services cache in the Apps menu, clearing the cache in phone more generally, and using every other more conventional battery conservation trick in the book. Still others reported the only fix as a factor reset. These things had little to no benefit to me--although I never had to resort to a factory reset since I found a fix this morning. For me, all it took was going into Wifi>Advanced>Wi-Fi frequency band and changing from "Auto" to the 2.4GHz setting. This seems to have nailed the persistent wakelock issue that had been showing up as "Android OS" under the stock battery life in the settings, which showed up as a kernel wakelock under "suspend_backoff" in BetterBatteryStats. Hope that something out of all of this can help you--I'm immensely frustrated with how poorly my phone performed for the last month after the KitKat upgrade. It appears, however, that the fix I just found has restored my battery life from the 3-6 hours I have been getting lately to 12-14 hours. I'll update in a couple days after I see how things go. Best of luck!
Update, after a real short period of time:
Somehow doing this appears to have broken my Touchless Control. I can't get Google to recognize the "Ok, Google Now" bit, which it had done in the past nearly flawlessly, nor will Google Search transcribe voice searches, period. Going into the Settings>Touchless Control shows Touchless Control to be unchecked, but tapping the button to enable Touchless Control doesn't do anything. The button dims slightly, as if the press is registered, but the box doesn't check and the Voice Search and continues not to work. Interestingly, putting the Wifi back on "Auto" as opposed to 2.4GHz doesn't seem to fix this; rebooting into Safe Mode makes it work fine though. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling my Touchless Control app, but I'm hoping this isn't a persistent issue for me. Ugh. In any case, I'll take battery life over Touchless Control for the time being.
EDIT: Voice input doesn't work anywhere on my phone--I can't press the microphone button on the keyboard and speak, for example, to dictate a text message. Potentially this is unrelated to the battery life issue, but I'm going to do some more digging and see what I can find.

No third party keyboards whatsoever. Up until now I had been really happy with Google's stock keyboard. Under Settings>Language and Input I have Google (English) checked, as well as Google Pinyin Input, and Google voice typing, which is set to English (US).
Been thinking about doing a factory data reset but would like to avoid it if possible because I've been horribly disorganized about curating my contacts across a variety of Google accounts--I know that if I had to, I have all my information backed up, but it'd be a big pain getting it sorted again afterward. I've heard others say that an FDR has fixed the battery all on its own. I don't know if I mentioned, but booting into safe mode restores the voice input functionality.
Got a Droid Mini now myself for a few days, it's at 4.4 and obviously unrooted and there apparently is no hope for the Chinese unlock nowadays either, sadly, so that means doing whatever possible to ensure the best battery life on mine as well. I hadn't considered forcing the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi operation so I set it that way just now and then immediately attempted to use touchless control and it's working fine for mine with only that one change from Auto to 2.4 made.
I was using GSam Battery Monitor to get some idea of what's going on with this device but recently decided to just give the Snapdragon BatteryGuru a shot and see what happens (got another 1.5 days of monitoring before it does whatever it's supposed to do).
On complete idle it does lose about 1.2% per hour (with Wi-Fi off) but I might redo that test now with the 2.4 GHz manual setting and see if anything is changed.
It's not anywhere near the battery life of the Droid MAXX I had and sold, obviously, but so far it's doing ok. I ordered an Incipio Ghost 100 Qi-charging base a few days ago, hopefully it'll be here by the weekend so I can stop wearing and tearing the microUSB port.
Will see what happens...

Glad to know that the Wi-Fi settings aren't the likely culprit of my ****ed voice input. I tried the Snapdragon BatteryGuru for a while--for me the effect was negligible over a period of about two weeks. What was the wakelock keeping your phone up?

I have no idea, haven't bothered to look at the wakelocks presently. I got used to using TricksterMod to monitor everything but of course I can't do anything with it because of no root access.
Really wish a miracle would come along at some point, we could use a working root definitely.
Hell, we could use 4.4.2 AND a working root to be honest, hopefully whenever 4.4.2 comes along it'll fix a lot of crap in 4.4 that Motorola and Verizon just broke for whatever reason. Bleh.
Come on, Motorola, make it happen.

Yeah, I'm with you there. I'm hoping we get 4.4.2 by mid/end of the summer, and in the meantime sitting here kicking myself for not jumping on top of buying an unlock code while they were available. $40 would have been cheap compared to putting up with this broken ****. I've been hugely disappointed in Motorola for failing to address the bugs in 4.4 in any sort of official capacity for the Droid lineup. It's funny--I didn't really care about having root so long as my phone was working. But trying to fix everything that has gone wrong has gotten my just drooling for root. Hopefully we get it eventually, and I know that the next phone I buy will DEFINITELY have an unlocked bootloader. Ugh.
I swore I'd never purchase another Motorola product and I suppose technically I haven't meaning I will never directly buy one from Motorola or from a carrier with their products (not even Google) - I got this Droid Mini for a decent price from someone off craigslist after selling the Droid MAXX for a very nice profit indeed so, in the long run I got the Droid MAXX free of charge to begin with, made profit from that then bought the Mini which is basically the same device in a smaller package more or less and still no money has gone directly to Motorola (or Verizon for that matter since I use T-Mobile just fine).
Gave up on Motorola when they pooched all of us Atrix and Photon owners so to hell with Motorola for that fiasco. Now it seems like they're doing it again by being slow and stupid for whatever reason.
I cannot for the life of me understand why it takes these companies so damned long to release a fix or update for a device - consider that the Moto X, the Droid Ultra, the Droid MAXX, and the Droid Mini all have the same X8 custom chipset and are basically the same devices in almost every respect and yet it still just doesn't get done like it should.
It's pathetic but I'm ranting now... my intolerance for stupid people (and companies) is well known so, Motorola, I can see not much has changed and so neither will my opinion.
I like the Droid Mini, it's a nice device, works fine given the limitations (no root yet, no 4.4.2) and the rather meager 2000 mAh battery. I could sell this I suppose, get me another Atrix HD (and still be mostly locked down I guess) but then slap that RAZR MAXX battery in it and get near-Droid MAXX battery life once again.
Nah, I think I'll keep the Mini unless someone makes me another offer I can't refuse. I see them listed on craigslist for rather low prices - exactly why I got this one a few days ago - and I honestly think there are a lot of people that just don't realize this is basically a "Moto X Jr" model that does effectively the same things including Active Display and "OK Google Now" touchless control.
You'd think most consumers were stupid or something for not noticing just what a fine device this Mini actually is. </sarcasm>

I tried that a week or so ago. I didn't let it control WiFi for me, but otherwise let it do its thing. (I also wouldn't let it turn off GMail syncing unless the phone was on - having GMail come to me close to push is one of the reasons I carry the thing with me.) It didn't make a damned bit of difference for me; it's off the phone now.
I've done the 2.4 GHz only thing. We'll see if it helps.
My ultra was doing the same thing. I back up my phone and factory reset it. For the first couple days I was killing the battery quickly from setting up my phone again and with in a week or so my battery life seemed to come back as it was in 4.2.

Note edge rebooting intermittantly.

Just recently my note has been rebooting several times a day. It seems to happen while im at home on my wifi network. At work its in my pocket most of my shift, but I would know if it rebooted because my gear s would give a disconnection message.
Most recent apps updated are Google maps, Samsung Milk music, Samsung Push Service and YouTube.
I have cleared the cache partition, but the Phone still reboots.
I took the battery out for approx. 3 mins, and replaced it. Still Reboots.
I checked my micro sd card for rogue files. Still reboots.
Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Well after some thought, I removed the widgets I had on my home screen, Google calendar, keep, music and poweramp, and re added them. I remember I have the same widgets on my Samsung note pro, I removed the Google now widget for a reason i cant remember, and when I tried to put it back on my home screen, it didnt work. This was after a Google now update.
Anyway, I havent had a reboot since. Not sure if this was the fix or something else, but I now have to wonder. After updates to apps that I use widgets for should I remove them and re add them?
It probably wouldn't hurt from the sounds of it.
going through the same thing, except for me, it is when my battery drops below 40%. my phone will think that it has zero battery left, and though the 5.0.1. update completely screwed battery life for the edge, there's no way that i am losing 30% in less than an hour, even with zero usage. i can't find a good combination of apps or app killers that can help the phone go into deep sleep and idle to help prolong the life. for now, i am going to back everything up with Helium, SMS Backup Pro and the Verizon Cloud to prepare for a factory reboot. i also ordered a fresh OEM battery from samsung, in case that has anything to do with it. once i perform the factory reset, if things are any better or about the same, i will update you guys.
Downgrade to Kitkat if you can.It would definitely improve the battery. Then maybe wait for Marshmallow and hope it would fix that d*mn battery issue on lollipop.

This problem is not only happening with my Edge, but for several Note 4 users I know as well. Even my 10.1 2014 edition tablet started cutting off. After not knowing what was happening I just happened to look at the reviews for a couple of apps that updated on their own within the past month. Go look at the google play services app reviews. Almost everything that is going wrong with my phone is described in the (lengthy) negative comments regarding the newest update. Lagging, cut offs...the works.
My phone shows me in the neighborhood of 20 percent. I'm on the phone with 25% and the phone cuts off. I play a youtube video and 2 second later the phone cuts off. But it is not a regular cut off like a standard recharge, it goes in to a perpetual boot loop of on and off until I put it in charge mode. Sometimes it is actually at zero percent but more often than not there is 15% there but the thing just cuts off. This is super annoying and crippling my phone experience. I have not seen an article yet (it was two weeks ago I really checked) to see if an android source picked up the story but the Google play services app commentary is virtually all 1 stars and complaints. This has got to be addressed.

Phone is painfully slow, trying to troubleshoot

So I've had a T-Mo S7 for about a year and a half now. It's incredibly slow/unresponsive and I've spent a really long time troubleshooting.
I've done full factory resets, and direct ODIN OS installs with data wipes. Whenever I do this, the phone starts out, with all current apps installed, extremely fast/responsive. I have a somewhat limited app library, and I haven't added anything since the phone slowed down noticeably.
About two months ago, the Samsung Device Maintenance app, which until then only reported battery draining, said "Some apps or processes are overloading the system (CPU)" and the app it reported was something like com.android/google.searchbar" which I assume is the google search bar widget. I thought, "awesome, the device app is actually doing something." I told it to kill the app and my phone sprung to life. My phone was super fast for a long time, but is now back to being super slow again. I searched "Apps" in device settings and can't find any apps/processes that sound anything like search bar. Also, how is there not a system resource monitor in system settings!? Clearly, an app is hogging resources, because I've experienced periods of responsiveness. Is there no direct way to figure this out without doing the safe mode process of elimination?
Can someone help shed some light or suggest further troubleshooting steps? Thanks in advance.
I got mine on black friday 2 years ago and I've been having the same issue. Of course my battery doesn't last very long being it's over 2 years old. I'm guessing it may have some.thing to do with the battery voltage being so weak after so long. I'm due for an upgrade obviously but I'd be fine using my S7 for another year if a battery replacement did the trick. I believe I was told in chat that I could go into the store and they'd only charge me $5 but I assume they'd have to send the phone out unless they just swap it out for a refurbished one. I've had no other problems with mine at all so not really the route I want to take.
Anyone else familiar with this process? Has anyone else had their battery replaced or phone swapped and notice if the fresher battery helps or is it just a symptom of it "can't" handle the newer OS properly? Any feedback would be appreciated. Hopefully it helps us both out. Didn't mean to hijack the thread!

So I promise it's not the battery because I had it factory replaced by Samsung. To answer your question, yeah you have to send it in. With the waterproofing they have to do it at a repair center. However, for me it was 100% worth it. I think I was without the phone for about 10 days. But having a brand new battery life was incredible.
Also, as I was working with the phone slow for a while, it immediately and dramatically became quick after device maintenance killed that process. But a few months later, I'm back to suuuuper slow.
The S7 is getting old. Old things slow down. It's planned obsolescence. I've gotten to the point of turning notifications off for all apps and only using badge numbers to tell me when to check something. I also use do not disturb a lot when gaming instead of game tools because game tools is another app but do not disturb is more of an internal process. As soon as my taxes come back I'm probably going to get a S8+

I didn't have an issue with mine , but sold it today. I prefer the slick oneplus 8 pro. Less pork and more of an on point device.

I had the same Bluetooth connection issues with the s20 ultra same 5g issues an poor picture quality.
That would be nice if it was just a lemon. I'm going to spend the day tomorrow with t-mobile.
The fast charger also died withing the first two weeks.
They want me to drive 40 miles to pick a new one up.
Really over samsung. Over priced and undelivered.

I feel you. Samsung support sucks; it's not your imagination.
I have a 10+ and have been eyeballing the 20U as an upgrade. There do appear to be display issues on some of these phones.
As for bt, try a network reset; it's relatively painless and may help.
Clear the system cache on the boot menu.
Double check all settings.
Turn off all power management except the power mode; set to optimize.
In Developer options>standby apps, if all buckets show as active, power management is disable. See if Android will manage them better with no assigned buckets.
Look for apps using up bandwidth/battery, cloud apps including Google Transport are prime offenders.
Disable Samsung, carrier and Google feedback.
Consider adding a package disabler like PD MDM the shutdown the bloatware.
See if that helps... play with it.

I've had mine for months and haven't experienced a single issue you experienced, just get another phone if you're unhappy and stop the whining

That doesn't help.
Depending on the carrier firmware the same model can behave much different.
Took me close to 6 months to dial in my AT&T 10+, it was a handful. Running hot, chewing up the battery.
Today, a year latter, it's a totally different animal; fast, stable with good battery life and no glitches.
These phones are complex with a lot of settings plus added carrier and 3rd party apks not to mention the Samsung apks. No configuration is the same.
If you don't play with them you'll never get it optimized and you'll just be along for the ride... wherever it goes.

You're welcome.
A hard reboot (simulating pulling the battery) may get it too if you haven't try it. Again clearing the system cache can cure many gremlins like magic, easy to do and worth trying.
Another possibility is the phone was infected with a virus or trojan, this is very unlikely though unless you inadvertently downloaded or loaded it.
Scan it with Malwarebytes and Trojan Scanner.
If in doubt reload.
Normally reloads aren't a solution unless it's an old load or if compromised by a virus.
If you reload check the system before you load anything except from Playstore; assume the SD card or computer backups could be compromised as well.
If you reload avoid doing any updates at first as one of these could be causing the erratic behavior.
If you did a firmware update this could be the cause; clearing the system cache may fix it but a reload is better. I disable autoupdates especially from the carrier for this reason among others.
More than likely you get it sorted out or at worst return for repairs.
Reload it though before you return it. Fixable software/settings issues* are common on these phones.

*if you have a clean load it's always preferable to find the cause of the malfunction rather than reloading as the same issue may well happen again from the same apk or incorrect setting(s).

Honestly, I would have it exchanged if you are having that many problems with it, sounds like you may have a defective unit, it happens, could be something as simple as a faulty motherboard causing all those issues that a quick exchange would solve
Got to say this is the best phone I've ever owned so I'm extremely surprised you're having all those problems, contact whoever you bought it from, tell them what you told us and get a replacement unit sent out

Could be a bad mobo but it's easier to reload then to exchange it and then have the exact same issues.
Happened to me with the 10+, bt audio was horrible.
Return it and at first it was running normally then boom the exact same thing. I knew it was software but I didn't manually toggle it!
Samsung tech zero help, same-same with AT&T tech support.
The problem goes back at least as far as the N9 and that's where I found the solution.
It was a glitch in the advanced audio settings that sometimes toggles on by it's self probably due to a glitch in Wearables.
Samsung finally fixed it about a half year about with a Wearables update. It took them over 2 years.
If you knew about it, it was easy to simply untoggled it occasionally, if not it was an audio nightmare.
The only other way to reset it was a pointless reload.
I like the shotgun get it done approach but you can needlessly spend time without a solution if you don't first try to verify if it's hardware, bad flash or an issue that's pure software.
Out of the box this AT&T 10+ was a puking, bandwidth/battery eating, hot running mess besides the bt glitch.
Today with the same OS version and a lot of optimizing it's stable, fast, gorgeous looking platform with good battery life.
It wasn't even close to this out of the box...
If you don't take the time to play with these phones you'll miss the functionality they're capable of and put up will a lot of unpleasant experiences needlessly.
A misbehaving Android is an opportunity to learn new tricks. Just dive in... and see where it takes you.
I can confirm on pics being blurry. Also Samsung should calibrate their displays like Apple. Its shouldn't be left for users to find the right setting. Also the screen is not crisp in fhd mode. My Xr with 820p looked sharper.

I try to take pics of my plants and it takes a ton of shots to get one nice clear one. I have a pixel 3 and the camera taking the same pics in the same lighting are beautiful and easy to capture perfectly the first time.
My screen just froze while typing this reply ?
Whole thing freezes up and you have to hit home button or the current running apps then pop back in to get it to come back.

Android color calibration (ie no calibration) sucks.
When will they get the message?
After 5+ years you would think they would know better?
I could calibrate my color throughput/monitor on Windows 15 years ago...
Make sure Bixby Vision and Bixby Vision Framework are not disabled; needed by the cam, the rest of Bixby can be disabled.
Check cam settings and manually set the AF lock point if you aren't. Try a data reset on the app and clear the system cache. Could be hardware but more likely user, settings, software or firmware related.
My browser will lock up if too many windows are open (52 open now) or if the browser cache gets too large or corrupted. Might the browser; my primary one is Brave. The Samsung browser handles about 15 or so open windows.
I chased down dozens of issues on my 10+ to get it where it is today over mostly a 6 month period.
I'm careful about all updates and new apps as these can cause havoc especially the former.
Still running on Pie because it's fast, stable, secure enough for my setup and everything is now running well.
Constantly upgrading is time consuming at best and the outcome not always an improvement. I use the factory load for a bunch of apks still... with good results.
