I had my Galaxy Nexus S stolen, but would like to obtain an original factory ROM dump to run under emulation or try to run under virtual box.
Does anyone out there have a factory original ROM I could obtain?
Also how would run this under the Android SDK under emulation?
How would I run this under Virtual Box (if anyone can point me to some detailed instructions that I can follow).
thanks

It won't run under VirtualBox - VB is an x86/x64 Hypervisor, not an ARM emulator. Sorry.

Since the Nexus S runs vanilla android, all you need to do is run the Android SDK Emulator and choose the most recent 2.3.x version (likely .7 for Sprint, .5 or .6 for all others).
You can get more info here:

Be patient - it takes a while to load up.

AndroVM + VirtualBox on Windows
Before I got an Android phone I had some luck running Android apps using AndroVM (formerly called Buildroid) inside VirtualBox. AndroVM is an build of Android compiled to run as a PC operating system. It's designed to run inside a virtual machine environment such as VirtualBox. AndroVM and VirtualBox are both open source.
I was wondering if there is a way to test a rom on a pc....like in a virtual machine. Just to see how the UI looks, how the functionality works, etc. I know I have tried running ubuntu on my machine in a VM, but I am not sure if there exists the same setup for android.
Are you asking about ROMs or apks? There should be a tool within the Android SDK (Android Emulator) that allows you to emulate an android device, so that you can test your apks.
Do you know how the os installaton works on tablets with intel atom or core m? Can I just download windows/ubuntu and install it form a bootable USB like on laptops or do I need special ROM for that device like regular android phones?

If you have access to fastboot mode (Google it if you don't know how to open it), you can install the official Ubuntu ROM using this method:
How to install Ubuntu Touch on your Android phone or tablet
Or check this official instructions: Installing Ubuntu for devices
But, there's no Windows OS for Android devices.
However there are certain custom ROMs which gives Windows 8 like interface. Search and find those ones compatible for your device.
Else, you can install launchers that give UI like Windows 8 from Play Store.
Hope this helped
Hello,
Hopefully can find further help here...
Obtained Keypoon K30s Pro tablet from China. It is running Android 10 as its oem OS. I want to set it up with a linux distro instead of android.
Ofcourse due to exotic make I have not been able to find any threads of information on this topic for this brand tablets.
Only guide so far has been hardware specs...
It is running on Unisoc SC9863a 64bit ARM Cortex A-55 cpu at 10 cores.
10GB RAM
512GB internal storage
PowerVR Rogue GE8322 integrated graphics card
It successfully connects with windows 10 cmd adb bridge.
As I understand, I would need a linux distro img format file to try and boot it from bootloader via ADB, however official sources only offer ISO downloads.
PS I am open to any linux distro which would offer best compatibility to the hardware. From what I can see Debian seems to be a good choice. (as this brand is not
part of the supported device list for ubports of ubuntu touch couldnt get past that either)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thank you

Thank you for reply.
Looks like Andronix is a Linux emulator and backbone still remains Android.
with this also comes certain limitations...
I was looking to completely replace Android with a Linux distro.
Any suggestions?

Yes, you are correct there. Andoid is built off the linux kernel.
However, it is still limited in what you can do, you have proprietary bloatware bogging down your device and the biggest issue for me is that google is the manager of it all.
So I am strongly coming from privacy side as well.
I have seen quite a few options similar to Andronix on play store. Correct me if im wrong- they are like a virtual machine on windows..? Not sure how this setup works, if you are able to save your OS state, packages etc, or its a clean slate everytime you fire up the vnc server and connect to the distro of choice...
So I am really interested to see if its possible to fully get rid of android and try linux. (Cant install windows as ARM cpu's are not supported, not that I wanted windows anyway)
Many thanks
