Encrypted SD card in strange state after OTA upgrade - General Questions and Answers

After an OTA update to Android 11 I'm unable to access any of the files on the sd card. The sdcard had been added as phone storage by running "sm partition disk:179,32 private" on the previous version of android. The files show in a file manager, but cannot be opened. The phone was not wiped during the upgrade so strange that the sdcard is messed up now.

The encryption key used by Android for the Adoptable Storage is stored - this will surprise no one - in Android's default internal storage.
When you upgraded Android this internal storage memory got overriden, so also the encryption key.
IMO there is no chance to decrypt the SD-card, make the files in question readable again.

It was an ota though, so not a factory reset. Other otas have been fine in the past as well. All the apps that were on internal storage are still there too so don't think internal storage was wiped?

Android 6 adoptable storage: Can the encryption key be exported?

I don't actually use Android 6, but I'm about to get the update soon. (Sony Xperia Z3) I've heard about the Android Adoptable Storage and I would like to use that to install apps on the external sd card. But this also encrypts the sd card. What about if my device gets damaged and I want to recover the data from the sd card? Is it possible to extract the storage encryption key and import this key on a new device? (My phone is rooted)

Help Understanding Android's Storage Expansion (SDCard Formatted As Internal)

Hi there,
I've been using android for some years now and with time android has allowed users not only to expand the phone storage capability but also format said SDcard as internal so the user can save apps directly on the SDcard.
What I never understood is why we can't we move individual files from internal storage to the now encrypted and formatted as internal SDcard? Is this possible?
The cellphone (running android 8.0) has 32GB internal storage. I installed & expanded the total storage capability with a 64GB A1 SDcard formatted as internal. All working find.
The issue I'm having is that I listen to podcasts & I have a massive selection of songs stored locally on my phone. This has filled up my phone to the point of nagging. Why can't we, after formatting the SDcard as internal, not able to move or at least tell the system (be it via file manger, etc) to store/move X,Z files to the SDcard? We can move apps back and forth so why are we not able to move audio and image files back and forth? So much for the convenience of formatting as internal. No widgets, not able to move files to and fro other than apps.
I've basically 60GB free and the phone wont access it unless it is to install apps. I find this to be an useless behavior. For those of us who would like to have a 100% encrypted phone/storage, this is useless as keeping the SDcard as external storage is the one way of fully taking advantage of it.
Thanks

TWRP 3.2.1-0 Failed to mount decrypted adopted storage device

I have enabled adoptable storage on smartphone with root essentials app, but now I cannot flash in TWRP 3.2.1-0, ZIP files are not displayed in explorer.
I appreciate any help!
Once external SD-card got converted to Adoptable Storage it became ( encrypted ) part of phone's internal storage memory, means it is no longer accessible as external storage memory.

It is not possible to flash, not even via the ADB option, this problem started after I made the adoptable storage. Is it possible to reverse the process without erasing the smartphone data?

Need help with android expanded SD card

So, I had a phone with android 11 but the charging port broke. I was using a 256GB SD card for extended storage (Internal storage was only 32GB.)
Now, I want to access the data it has, but I can't open or mount the card.
Gparted finds 2 partitions :
/dev/sdc1 (16MiB) with the exfat file system and with "android" label.
/dev/sdc2 (238.28 MiB) with "unknown" filesystem and no label.
I would really like to get the data back from said SD card and any help is really appreciated.
Sounds like the phone set an encryption lock for those files or encrypted them.
Access through that OS load that encrypted them only. If you do a factory reset the encryption keys will be lost.
Something like that...
@TdgChan
If SD-card got converted to "internal storage memory" you have no chance.
