Camera stops working and apps using camera like Snapchat just shows an error. Flashlight is greyed out in quick settings as well. Went through this 3-4 times, rebooting the phone solves it temporarily.

I have had my Inspire since the end of Feb and haven't had any real issues with it. Camera has been working great and I love snapping photos that I can share on FB so easily...I went to that the other day and found my camera is stuck on the Posterize mode eventhough my settings are at "normal".
I tried installing a different camera app (using default app) and got the same result
Any suggestions? I have tried a soft-reboot to no avial. Do I need to wipe the whole phone and do a reset to factory settings?
Have you dropped your phone recently, or at all? If so, all you have to do is press the camera lens back into place. Mine was similar to this, and after pressing the lens back in, the picture quality was back to normal.
If pressing the lens DOESN'T work, go to:
settings > applications > Camera > force stop & clear data
That should also help. Hope this works for you
Hi All,
The camera crashes sometimes and I have to force close it. When I try to open it again, it displays a black screen for 2 seconds with maximum brightness then kicks me back to my home page.
I have disabled Geotagging and going to Settings -> Applications -> Manage
Clearing the camera data
Clearing the cache
Force stopping & reopening the camera app. does not resolve the problem.
I need to restart my phone in order for it to start working again.
Does anyone know of another way to revive the camera after it crashes without having to restart?
Thanks.
I'll assume that camera worked properly when you installed the rom. If that is the case, just flash the SAME rom on top of it, without wiping anything, and you should be fine.
Thanks for the response strahota.
I'm running InsertCoin 3.4.0 and not having any problems with the camera or ROM itself, but rather a third-party application that will sometimes crash the camera and prevent the camera app. from being opened again until I restart.
Just would like to know if there's anyone out there that knows of a way to restart the camera without restarting the phone?
Thanks.
bump, hoping someone can help...
Hi everyone,
I have a Nexus 5, which is completely stock with locked bootloader. I am running the latest Android 6.0 with the Nov 2015 security patch.
I noticed a couple of days ago that my torch had stopped working. Also when I try the camera I get the 'Can't connect to the camera' error.
I tried clearing app cache for camera app, and this did not work
I tried clearing all cache through settings, and this did not work
I rebooted, and this did not work
I tried a 3rd party torch app, and this did not work (uninstalled)
I tried a 3rd party camera app, and this did not work (front camera briefly worked but then also errored if I tried to take a pic. Uninstalled)
I tried safe mode, in case it was a third party app causing the issue, and this did not work
I then tried wiping cache through recovery, and this did work, but only for a short time - after an hour the issue returned.
Sometime just after rebooting and then starting the camera app I get a garbled view instead of the error (screenshot attached) and can briefly switch to the front camera, but if I take a pic it errors again.
Has anyone got any idea as to what could be causing the issues?
Thanks!
So a few weeks after I got the phone I started getting the camera failed message. I've tried every option I've had, clearing the cache, force stopping, removing the sd card, turning off smart stay, even hard resetting the phone and using the complete data cache wipe. Finally I took the phone to samsung and they did their software update/data fix thing and it worked. For about 10 minutes my camera was just fine. Then the error came again, but not as often. I would get the error once then right after the camera would work. So for most of the day everything was just fine. However, then towards the end of the day, it's gone back to how it was before with all error with almost no successful camera app use. I had shown it to samsung again and they were just stumped. They said to try a complete wipe, but I've already done that with no success.
I bring this up because I can't find any recent threads on this issue. Also from what I've seen it's a software issue so do I just wait for a fix for RMA the phone. Everything else about it works fine. Does anyone else have this issue?
Warning: "Camera failed" imposible to solve but dialing *#0*# the camera works
Hi, I have a problem with my front camera in the Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F). It doesn't work and every time that I enter in the front camera appears the message "Warning: Camera failed"
The Rear camera works perfectly but since I've bought the S7 I never couldn't use the front camera
Here is what I have tried:
- Force Stop, Clear Data, Clear Cache, and Clear Defaults
- Clear Cache Partition in Recovery
- Factory Reset through Settings
- Factory Reset through Recovery
- Installed 3rd party camera app
- Installed another OEM ROM through Odin
- Repite everything
And the camera never work.
But.... by entering *#0*# into the dialer and picking Front cam the camera works perfectly and I can take a pictures. but through the app it doesn't work
Another thing that I can do it is, install the Dual-camera MODE and I can use the both two cameras at the same time although the front camera locks very blurry but it is another problem
I need to know if it is a hardware problem or a softwared problem. I don't know if I replace the front camera It will work.
Hi! I have this problem with my front camera I tried every option too and also install another Oficial ROM through odin but it didn't work
Did you solve it?
Try to put *#0*# in the dialer and test the camera. tell me if it works.
I haven't used my Nexus 5 in a while and I recently started using it again and the front camera behaves very weirdly. It starts by working perfectly, then it simply stops after a few minutes and only recovers after a reboot. I tried uninstalling the camera app, clearing cache and using safe mode and nothing seems to work.
